Bitcoin needs mining. Mining costs a whole lot of electricity. Electricity still mostly comes from fossil fuels.

Ergo, bitcoin isn't green.

Any thoughts about this?
Nice! So, do you have any better idea? What, no?

3342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if someone bought up all the existing bitcoins? on: March 27, 2012, 08:59:18 PM
Someone want to buy all existing bitcoins?

Nice! I am selling some of mine at 20 billions $ each  Wink
3343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is the "scratch"? it's FUD or truth? on: March 26, 2012, 08:53:34 PM
Copying a file on a computer is not Bitcoin weakness. It's user fault for having an infected computer.

If my computer is infected everything is weak, i type a password and the virus read it for example.

Lategan explains that Bitcoin, a fast-growing global digital currency that resides solely in the cloud, has already been the victim of attacks.
Lol i missed that before.

Bitcoin has been the victim? Didn't know linode=bitcoin.  Roll Eyes And they want to find weaknesses in SHA256? Maybe it's SHA256 but they refer to AES seeing the mistakes they make
3345  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i know the correlations between prices and dif ? on: March 26, 2012, 11:50:38 AM

There is no correlation, price can do what the hell it wants to do  Wink Difficulty just follow
3346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Satoshi ever spend his Bitcoins? on: March 26, 2012, 11:46:37 AM
if satoshi is human and humans make mistakes, i think it's possible a large number of his private keys have already been lost permanently.

It was self-important enough to create an untraceable identity. I am sure it assigned the same importance to its Bitcoins as well.
Back then bitcoin was just an experiment, bitcoins were mostly worthless, who know how many test they did with wallets and private keys?
3347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is the "scratch"? it's FUD or truth? on: March 26, 2012, 11:44:29 AM
FUD

Lol, bitcoin, wich has a market cap of less than 50 millions of $ discover a weakness that no one in all the world governments and banks and whatelse and trillions of $ discovered? Yeeeah sure. And what about Area 51? I've heard they have aliens there!!!

It works perfectly
3349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the ability to crack current public encryption. on: March 24, 2012, 01:28:51 PM

Or hey, what about a world war? That would certainly put a damper on R&D.

Exact opposite actually.

It would put a damper on R&D for increasing chip densities. Notice i said a WORLD war? Not USA takeover of camel jockey capital.
During world war 1 and 2 research skyrocketed.
War is a great motivator for R&D
3350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hash cracking speed for 6950? on: March 24, 2012, 01:15:12 PM
I have a 6950 2gb.
Im using GUIMiner, and it's currently cracking at ~260MHash/s
How many MHashes/s should i expect with this card?
At default clocks (800mhz core) my 6950 make like 325mhash/s with cgminer, pretty much same in Guiminer with -v -w128

And definitely underclock the memory, temperature will get lower. You can use MSI Afterburner for that (and remember that the first time you launch it you can go only to like 620mhz, then apply, close and launch again and go to like 300 and apply)
3351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DeepBit pool thread for newbies on: March 24, 2012, 01:10:19 PM
I am doing, give me some time to finish writing

But the problem is that if all the dozens of pool open a thread here...  Cheesy

Or, in other words, tragedy of the commons
3352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin mining on Amazon cluster on: March 24, 2012, 01:08:24 PM
GPU = 106 kh/s for 2 Tesla GFX cards, reaper v. 13
CPU = 25 kh/s for 8 threads of Intel Xeon from Scrypt Miner.

Kinda disappointed, to be honest.  Undecided

I like this. It gives a fair playing ground for miners with CPUs and GPUs.
1 ATI 6950 390kh/s...
3353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: p2pfoundation Bitcoin criticism on: March 24, 2012, 12:57:57 PM
Lol these critics are so fail. Lol the botnet argument, so much fail. And the second critic is even more fail, once more another "bitcoin is a good start but with OUR ruleset it's better"...
3354  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DeepBit pool thread for newbies on: March 24, 2012, 12:54:25 PM
Why there is a pool thread here? Sure, new ppl can't post outside here, but then i want a thread for every pool. After all deepbit is in no way different from other pools.

3356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin GPU mining revelations and ArtForz running away on: March 22, 2012, 01:13:24 PM
I'm going 50/50 with BTC/LTC right now (for every 1 BTC I mine, I buy 1 BTC worth of Litecoins).  IMHO they're really cheap at the moment and way down from the year high.  If only I could have bought Bitcoins this cheap.

Edit: Woops, I meant to post this in the other Litecoin thread.  Oh well, call the cops. I don't give a fk! Smiley

How is that 50/50 when you say that every 1 BTC you mine you buy LTC with it. more like 100/0 lol.
He mine 1 btc and keep it. Then mine another btc and sell it for ltc. And so on

IMO ScamCoins need to stay in the ScamCoin board.
Not the bitcoin board, If you've got questions about the communistic garbage controlled by ONE MAN, Then goto HIS forums.
RealSolid (creator of ScamCoins) Has had DMCA's SUCCESSFULLY filed against him
He has PREMINED 12MILLION coins, and THEN started the blockchain
He RESTARTED the blockchain
He changed the blockreward, Twice now.
He bans anyone who badmouths him on his forums.
He has the power to "invalidate" a block, Effectivly Destroying all of your funds.
+1

Try driver 11.11

They don't have the sdk 2.6 and don't have the 100%cpu bug
3360  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [320GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: March 21, 2012, 06:40:56 AM
Yeah, looks like the 100% cpu bug

It's not a p2pool bug, it's about driver and using OpenCL (miner is in OpenCL of course) How to fix: update your driver.
