3341  Economy / Reputation / Re: User: Unknown01 threatens me with a forum ban for saying my opinion on: June 26, 2022, 04:59:00 PM
but insulted me as a fake account and threatened me that theymos will ban me soon

Even multi-accounts are allowed in the forum, that's not an offense that can cause ban.
Of course, there are many who don't like others tell they're wrong, especially if the others are lower ranked (although that should not matter if there would be a fair exchange of opinions).
As you can see, 1miau has answered him that he's wrong in those opinions. The rest.. is just cheap talk.

Believe it or not, freedom of speech (like on this forum) also means that some will say that Putin is great (even if every sane person knows that he's just another war criminal) and their posts are allowed. You have to either grow a thicker skin, either press the ignore link. As simple as that.
3342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core initial sync estimates 2 YEARS until synced on: June 26, 2022, 04:20:33 PM
It's running on an 11th gen i7 with 16GB RAM and a 1000 mbps internet connection.

First of all: do you have some 450 GB free on the disk you're saving the blockchain to? Please make sure you do.

Then.. I am 99% sure you're saving the blockchain onto HDD. But do you have by chance SSD on your system (there's a very good chance you do). If so, use symlinks for your chainstate folder (and if you have indexes, also to the index folder) to copy it to SSD. However, give a read to this topic and see what was proposed there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5387672.0
3343  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Integration with Rootstock's Sovryn on: June 26, 2022, 04:05:48 PM
and what do you gain from this partnership/integration?

I think that they want to gain some advertising by tying their name to Electrum's.
Also I think that they were hoping that Electrum team may implement that, hence gain some sort of endorsement.

Nobody interested in this subject?

While LN is seen as something that helps Bitcoin, your DeFi thing is not. So you'll have to find somebody from that DeFi team willing to make a fork of Electrum and implement what you need.
And I second that: bitcoiners are not interested in DeFi as much as you'd expect.
3344  Economy / Economics / Re: Difference btw CBDC & BTC (Simple and short explanation) on: June 26, 2022, 03:56:12 PM
I still can't figure out what makes CBDCs better than good old paper cash.

For you and me? No better. There may be that you may be able to have some sort of wallet with no yearly fee to the bank, but that's all.
For merchants? Hmm.. it may become interesting to not pay a lot of money to VISA and Mastercard and just support CBDCs.
For governments? Full control over people's finances, zero privacy and all the rest.
3345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Crossed 20k USD!! Don’t lose hope now. on: June 26, 2022, 03:49:45 PM
Bitcoin may come down again in a few days. However, at present Bitcoin is fluctuating between 21,000. This situation will not last long. Those who are interested in investing in Bitcoin should wait a few more days. Buy Bitcoin prices are actually on a downward trend step by step. I hope you will benefit .

I would not be so certain that this will only take a couple of days. I would be happy if it would be so quick and then back to better days, but "hope for the best, but prepare for the worse", you know... this bear market may still take months...
3346  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoiners are protecting, while EU nations are destroying the environment on: June 26, 2022, 03:46:39 PM
but in regards to "it's not the fault of politicians", from what I hear a lot of voters are quite shocked because they would have expected quite the opposite from the people they put in charge in the past. They are going rogue in the EU right now.

Well, maybe I should have been writing instead "we're all just as guilty as the politicians"...
The politicians (at least in my country) have noticed that the lack of (voters') education has a better chance to keep them re-elected. Of course, this also means that the newer politicians are also uneducated, especially as this situation exist for more than 30 years here. I'd expect it happens in a similar way in (too) many countries.
"The voters" are shocked because of their unrealistic expectations. As I said, politicians are.. politicians, not some smart technical people.

I've watched these days, yet again, The Hobbit movies. Just look at Alfrid Lickspittle character (nicely played by Ryan Gage). That's what most politicians are.

They justify it with their fight against child pornography.

They always find some very good reasons for they actions, and those actions do much more harm than necessary, those actions restrict the law abiding citizen more than they should just because the politicians cannot do better (or don't want to). Of course, in most cases the bad people have plenty of way to go around all the restrictions imposed, and the politicians get more power and also they give the impression they care and they do something.

So if you send a picture of a little kid that's part of your family to your wife, the kid's grandma or whatever, your name might immediately be broadcasted to a list for potential criminals.

There's nothing new, really. 25 years ago (or more) the same was happening with e-mails. You were writing that "my fart sounds like a bomb", you were becoming potential terrorist because you are mailing something about bomb. This is the same thing, just adapted to the new era.

It's sad that tools (operating systems, communication software) are created with holes into them specifically to help government keep an eye on people, then everybody is shocked that the holes are exploited by hackers.

The non-custodial wallet regulation is also insane. If I understand that correctly, you need to go through KYC with a registered company for every single wallet you hold the keys to. Holy Christ. I guess you know how many wallets the old guys from this forum often have? Cheesy

All I can hope is that sooner or later the database will get more expensive than its use. Because I would not be surprised they want this information about all possible addresses  Wink Cheesy
But seriously, yes, this is the direction they take. Since they cannot do better in checking on how the bad guy get money and spend the money, they check everybody (of course excepting the actual bad guys, since those will know how to hide).

I wonder whether these regulations actually foster tax evasion rather than prevent it.

Your logic went to the correct point! Indeed, whoever wants to hide, has all the means. And even those who don't really want to hide, may do it simply because they get fed up with filling KYC info over and over again.
And, as I said, the wrongdoers do hide anyway (and most still use fiat, actually).
3347  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: June 24, 2022, 02:05:29 PM
The dark web is also more complicated than the normal internet of course.

I am not a big user of dark web sites. But at least using ChipMixer is as simple as using a clearnet web page.
Start Tor browser (just a different looking Firefox), click to connect to Tor. Then you have the correct link from this announcement (I find it the safest option), you paste it into the Tor browser and that's all. The rest is normal browsing. So let's not really call it complicated  Wink
3348  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming way of creating threads on: June 24, 2022, 01:08:13 PM
Politics and Society is seen as full of spam and low quality posts, so I expect that many have it ignored; I also expect that those posts fit just well into ... that, no matter how pointless they are. Cheesy
However, as said, hit the report button and let the mods decide. Reporting posts is not meant to be overly accurate anyway.
3349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Erratic Kilohashing on: June 24, 2022, 01:04:43 PM
1. How come I can’t get my mining software to put out more than 8-10 kilohashes?

You will have to tell more about what you're doing and what you think you want to achieve.
As in the pinned post, you need an ASIC to mine Bitcoin. You cannot mine Bitcoin with PC, if that's what you're doing.
So the answer would be: "that's because you're some 10 years late for PC mining and in 2022 you need to buy ASIC".

If you're mining altcoins, on the other hand, then please ask in altcoin mining area of the forum.
3350  Economy / Economics / Re: Difference btw CBDC & BTC (Simple and short explanation) on: June 24, 2022, 12:56:25 PM
Here is a very simple and short difference between BTC and CBDC, and why both are not comparable in any way.

Source @bitcoin_insights

There's nothing simple in that image. And it's misleading at best, since it can make some think that there are worthy similarities between Bitcoin and CBDCs (and they're not really).

Simple difference: CBDCs are centralized bank money, like your VISA. Bitcoin is.. decentralized and free. (pay attention, I didn't say it's for free).
If you need a lot of lines of text then you've missed the "simple" part.

PS. The image is poorly made and pretty much unreadable; not that it would matter much.
3351  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: June 24, 2022, 11:27:55 AM
I think that if that happen, we can just ignore ledger live and use third party wallets such as Electrum/metamask/etc that will most likely never drop support.

Although software like Electrum will most likely support older firmware, this will happen only until the point some big change/update/security fix is implemented (into bitcoin itself, or Electrum, or even Ledger itself).
While I expect Electrum be on the side of its users, it probably won't allow unsafe device still work.

So at some point, whether we like or not, after Ledger stops supporting Nano S, it will become just an useless piece of hardware.

However, we're still fine for 2 more years at least, so it's not something I'd insist on too much this early.
3352  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Full RBF on: June 24, 2022, 11:23:43 AM
~ I'll have no idea which one will actually get mined until one of them is mined?
Isn't that the same now? If you use RBF, there are 2 valid signed transactions out there, and it's up to the miner to choose which one to include. The one with the highest fee is most likely to get confirmed, but there are no guarantees.

I think that after the change this should be more predictable (but still not 100%). Since a new tx is treated as RBF (maybe if it has bigger fee though?) it should have "the upper hand" when picked by miners.
Of course, since one's mempool is different from other's, the chance for the initial tx get confirmed first, even if the second one has the bigger fee, cannot be reduced to 0.
Isn't it the same now with all the tx that have RBF flag on?
3353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin FUD is for losers. BE A WINNER. Stay Cool- Be Positive =D on: June 24, 2022, 10:20:10 AM
One important step is to invest only money you afford to lose. Then you have a better chance neither FUD nor market changes scare you.

Reading the news, staying informed.. this is important. Afterwards, based on your knowledge you decide whether those news are worthy to act or not. Indeed, in most cases they are not worthy unless you have trader material and can get to multiply your funds only by paying attention to the market (of course, it's risky!).

Being positive is indeed a good advice. Bitcoin has a history of crypto winters and fantastic recoveries afterwards. We can surely hope this is yet another one that'll be followed by recovery.
3354  Economy / Services / Re: 💹📈 Royse777🧢: Campaign Management 💪🔥 Signature | ICO | IDO | NFT on: June 23, 2022, 08:08:28 PM

3 out of the total 5 posts you've made are about this same thing. I am sure that nobody has missed it. And I am also sure that everybody who knows how to use the Ignore feature has used it on you already.
3355  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: June 23, 2022, 08:01:11 PM
I know it's trendy to bash on Ledger these days, especially in recent years, but consider what they have done to help the crypto community over all.  One could argue they've been a tremendous force in the effort to accelerate mass adoption due to the simplicity, affordability, and security of the Nano S.

I could say that they didn't do anything spectacular and the competition has done the same.
But: they've done it cheaper than most of the competition. And clearly that means cost cutting here and there, which is bound to back fire sooner or later. And it did.
It's not about bashing Ledger because it's a trendy thing to do, it's about losing confidence/trust in them; and you know how difficult is to build up trust and how easy is to lose it.
3356  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoiners are protecting, while EU nations are destroying the environment on: June 23, 2022, 03:50:09 PM
most European nation are reverting to using coal for power generation. He retreated that instead of investments in gas infrastructure, renewables or other alternatives, the extension of coal mining is considered the quickest and most viable solution for these European countries. We all understand that these EU nations need alternative source of power but the truth is that they are destroying the environment they claim to love dearly.

It's just one more example of bad and rushed politics. If, instead of basically forcing everybody use mostly Russian gas for everything (with thier hasty green deal), they would have been investing first into infrastructure (from transporting gas from multiple sources to good methods for storing energy/electricity obtained from regenerable sources) we would not be in this situation (maybe even the war would have been avoided)

Of course, now they turn back to coal and atomic energy because they don't have much of a choice.
And of course, they will point fingers to the war, to Bitcoin and so on, not their lack of vision.

But I don't think it's the fault of politicians. The politicians' only goal is to be elected. They are not some smart professionals. When the world wakes up and get (probably not in my lifetime) to put in charge smart people who know what to do instead of people from this or that circle of influence, they would do better. I fear that it may be too late though.
3357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet found has been lost on: June 23, 2022, 03:40:27 PM
Hi I purchased bitcoins for a few days ago and today I see that they are missing in my Bitcoin core wallet.
What has happened? And how do I get them back?

Bitcoin Core wallet needs a lot of time and a lot of free space on disk in order to synchronize. So the first and most important questions are:
* did you ever see those coins in your wallet?
* did you wait today for Bitcoin core to fully sync?

If the answer is yes to both, then you should look on blockchain explorers like the others said, but if it's no, just have patience and wait for it to sync, maybe it's a false alarm.
3358  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which cold wallet to buy? on: June 23, 2022, 03:08:07 PM
Is a hardware wallet a must? Or is leaving my crypto all on Coinbase OK?

Hardware wallet is not a must if you technically know what to do to keep your funds safe.
Keeping them on exchange is usually not a good idea: their policy may chance, they can get hacked or go bankrupt and so on. People keep telling: not your keys, not your coins.

3k pounds is, however, not a life changing amount (or maybe not yet) and I can understand that you may not want to invest more, especially now with the bear market. Plus the exchange will get a withdrawal fee off you.
However, on long term you have to find a safe way for storing your coins. Good luck in finding the best solution for you. As many said, it may be that this solution is a cheap hardware wallet.
3359  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: June 23, 2022, 03:01:07 PM
so I am predicting they will create some update that will make model S unusable in reality... maybe with much bigger ledger coin apps.
Excuse could be that they are doing this for ''safety and security'' of their beloved customers  Tongue

It's obvious that sooner or later that's what will happen. The point is the "when". I hope that it'll happen only after the chip shortage loosen up and SeedSigner becomes more mature too.
