3341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many lost Bitcoins are out there? on: December 10, 2015, 11:06:49 PM
Probably a shit ton. I lost a private key containing half a bitcoin myself.

That's not counting all the "lost" coins from scams, ponzis etc. If you count those, then the figure would be giant.

Coins lost from ponzi's and scams should not be factored in this category, as they continue to circulate, even tho they in a way were taken(scammed away) from you.
imho there's nothing needed to be done with lost coins, it's sort of a natural thing to happen in crypto currencies, and in time, it will only increase the value of the remaining
coins, which in a way is fixing the problem by itself. Coins get lost, but value of them does not, it gets added to crypto/fiat ratio.

cheers

Yeah, actual dead coins, or "forever frozen coins", happen under very particular scenarios:

1) the owner of the keys dies
2) the owner of the keys loses his memory and therefore access to keys
3) the owner of the keys losses the harddrive/pendrive/paper/whatever in a way that those aren't recoverable by any means

That's about it, the rest of possibilities will make circulation of bitcoin's possible.
3342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Infographic] Bitcoin Ecosystem on: December 10, 2015, 10:59:10 PM
This is a beautiful image to show noobs and doubters. "Oh but Bitcoin... that weird thing I heard in 2013 in Fox news about how it 1K dollars then it crashed.. what is it anyway?" In this picture you can clearly see that solid and unstoppable progress is being made. 2016 will be the year of Bitcoin, everything is starting to look great.
3343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Illegal bitcoin exchange Coin.mx busted in NYC on: December 10, 2015, 10:56:59 PM
I would have hoped by now that anyone running an exchange or using an exchange shouldn't be anywhere close to NYC because of the BitLicense nonsense. Trying to regulate Bitcoin is pointless since more and more exchanges will keep popping in other places where there aren't said regulations and people will use those services.
3344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi himself the single individual with the most power to harm Bitcoin? on: December 10, 2015, 10:54:53 PM
I dont see what harm he could do. He can only dump those coins and make cheaper for us non early adopters to buy more. Bitcoin is revolution of money and even if he really want to harm Bitcoin manipulating price, he cant do that in long run. In my opinion, it would be lot better if that dump happen than it stays unknown if he have that keys (or even if he is still alive). We had year of low price and Bitcoin survived, i bet bitcoin would survive even lower price and longer period of that no sweat.

Let's do a thought experiment.

15 years from now, Bitcoins and US dollar are the world's two biggest currencies. Bitcoins are worth $1m each and used day to day by approximately 30% of the world's population.

Out of the blue, Satoshi's original bitcoins start being moved en mass to bitcoin laundries.

What are the economic implications?

Potentially catastrophic I would imagine.

By then satoshi wouldn't make any profits by dumping 1 million coins into the market, and anything less wouldn't have any impact anyway since the marketcap would be on the trillions and the coins would be absorbed seamlessly. This is not really an issue. Even if it got dumped today, it would just mean the coins get redistributed among more people, the technology will keep making progress with or without dump.
3345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.11.1 released on: December 10, 2015, 10:52:27 PM
Today this is the best news that I have come across. I get to marvel at the fact that when bitcoin is facing serious challenges, it has  kept on growing against all these odds. I am happy that the new version is up and it really paints a good picture to the people who are trading. Every release means that the security of the algorithm is taken into consideration to avoid tapping related cases. I hope the releases will come from time to time to curb for all the flaws.

This version is not new, latest version is 0.11.2 and not 0.11.1, this thread is old. About the website of bitcoin.org being confusing, what confused me when I was a noob was that i couldn't find a "download" link, it was under "get involved" or something, it wasn't clear how to download the thing.
3346  Economy / Gambling / Re: the betting increse more and more lose, Why? on: December 09, 2015, 05:03:13 PM
The odds are always against so, just sometimes not...  Grin in other words, gamble dust and have fun, or let it be.

When a site says that it's probability fair, doesn't this mean you are playing at 50/50? Like 50% possibilities to win and 50% possibilities to lose? I think this is real probable fair, everything else is just bullshit, it's not fair even if it's 0.1+ in favor of the house.
3347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever win something big in demo mode and feel stupid? on: December 09, 2015, 05:01:28 PM
Of course this happened to me few times. U are totally correct about stupid feeling after. And after that when i deposit something I lose everything and think that everything is one big scam.

Yeah the conspiracy theorist in my also thinks sometimes that the demo mode in some sites may be rigged, because im always so lucky in demo mode, I start with a small amount like 0.05, and I keep doing progressive wins and sometimes end up with half a BTC, or even an entire BTC. Then I put the real money in and I lose it in a couple of spins.
3348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as your only payment option on: December 09, 2015, 04:48:24 PM
Once when I was out of the country doing some tourism I didn't have the ability to pay with anything without going first to the offices to get my money converted into this other local currency and it was a mess, I wish I could find Bitcoin merchants on that situation.
3349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gmaxwell proves Craig Wright is a fraud on: December 09, 2015, 04:44:53 PM
It seems that this Craig guy had problems with taxes so he may have done this to get some fame, now he will do some interviews in the best paid mainstream media, become rich, pay back the taxes and then retire. Good move.
3350  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Segregated witness - The solution to Scalability (short term) on: December 09, 2015, 04:33:48 PM
'I really don't quite understand yet how this is going to work, exactly' is kind of hard to square with 'The solution to Scalability'. If one does not understand all the considerations, how is one able to meaningfully advocate it as any kind of solution?

Like anything else in life, if it's difficult to figure out at first, then continuous exposure to the logic of the inner workings will eventually bridge the gap. That's how I learned about Bitcoin; not over 2 days worth of reading/thinking, but over 4 years. I'm still going.

I have been here for a while and as a non coder and pretty average IQ person I have done a good job in understanding the various BIP's in a logical and understandable way but this segregated witness one is probably too abstract for me to understand. It sorts like a way to efficiently compress  the weight of blocks by removing something that's not needed when possible.

It seems that either the creation of new bots is now stronger or mods are away, we have right now tons of threads in the main forum:

3352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Wired discovered the real Satoshi Nakamoto? (.. this time) on: December 09, 2015, 04:28:26 PM
Waiting for 'I am not Craig.  He's a douchebag.' post from satoshi's BCT account.

If this was my forum i would write the message for fun then jump in the SQL DB and edit the name..
I could have it done in a couple minutes no problem.
I hope you all know how forums works LOL
Pretty sure people would want a signed message with this one, they even did with dorian and he obviously wasn't Satoshi.

Yep at this point it would require the message to be signed since we already saw the gmx email of satoshi being hacked, so we can't be sure that just because someone had access to bitcointalk's satoshi account means it's the real one.
3353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever win something big in demo mode and feel stupid? on: December 08, 2015, 06:44:42 PM
Yeah. Just last night I was testing out a new (to me) dice site, and found an exploit on it.

I turned the 400 satoshi faucet into 6.2 BTC by abusing the bug, then reported it to the owner (without trying to withdraw, of course).

I figured he would reset my balance since it was all cheated. He paused betting, fixed the bug, re-enabled betting, but I still had the 6.2 BTC balance.

So I thought I may as well see how high I could take it without cheating, now that the bug was fixed.

I got it up to 12 BTC, then lost it all. Just as my balance hit zero I got a PM from the owner:

"Thanks for the bug report. As a thank you why don't you keep the coins you were able to win using the bug!"

Wow I felt stupid. I thought I was playing with "play money", since I was sure he would just wipe away my cheated balance.

He ended up tipping me 3 BTC anyway, so it's not all bad. Smiley

Wow really nice story, good person. Most people would have not resisted the temptation and would have took the money and run. Too tempting when you are broke. Mind saying what site was that or at least what game mode was it? (as in slots, dice, cards..)

I had once a lot of luck with slots but I was in demo mode, needless to say it felt really frustrating.
3354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BITS][BITSTAR] POS ★ MULTIPOOL ★ ANON ★ UPDATE TO v1.4 ASAP on: December 08, 2015, 06:41:31 PM
Hi, is this coin still being properly developed? I am still holding all of my stack since back in the day. I haven't updated the wallet in ages. I see it has a new anonymous feature. Can you explain how this anonymous feature work and how it reaches this said anonymity? It doesn't explain nothing about it in the OP.
3355  Economy / Speculation / Re: 400$ is the new bottom on: December 08, 2015, 06:34:28 PM
Don't think its the right time to buy btc's since we're not sure about the patterns as yet.I tried to perform an procure based analysis on the recent price charts but couldn't get anything out of it as its really unpredictable what will happen next. But yeah to store your bitcoins will be the wisest thing to do!

It's a 50/50 scenario right now. You either bet that 400 is going to be the new bottom, or that 400 is "it" and that we are going to correct back to low to mid 300s which in my opinion is more and more unlikely with every hour that we pass near the 400 range. Im not going to gamble with what I think is right so im just going to hold, shorting always bites you back unless you are mega lucky.
3356  Other / Meta / Re: How to advertise in this site ? on: December 08, 2015, 06:32:20 PM
You must find someone that has full access to big signatures and some authority. If I was to do this I would contact a member that has Hero status and above and go from there. Basically you need to start a signature campaign thread, and you will need a escrow to manage your funds to make people trust you in your payments.
3357  Other / Meta / Re: Hilarious bots posting nonsense: what's the point? on: December 08, 2015, 06:29:10 PM
I just saw this, here's another thread, please delete it:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1278250.0

Just report it.

Just a troll trolling. They get nuked within seconds so just ignore them.

But what trolling is this? For me trolling is signing in and saying how Bitcoin is doomed and everyone should just sell their coins because it's going to crash, but those guys don't even feel human, it's like automated random gibberish from a bot.

Well they are both bots but these bots probably belong to NLC who normally does post the bitcoin is doomed trolling shit but he's just changed it up now. Not sure why but maybe the randomness is his way of trying to get around being auto-nuked.

Lol at first I thought you meant hilarious as in hilariousandco(Global Mod guy). This has been discussed in: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1275923.0
The agenda is I guess "revenge" , it was previously posting begging threads which were swiftly deleted by nuke bots, but as the content is not changing randomly it has to be done manually, so yeah, to annoy mods.

Oh so it's just to annoy mods I guess, what a cunt.

If it is NLC then he's just annoyed that he got banned for posting the same nonsense and this is just his way of protest but if he's trying to annoy the mods then he's going about it the wrong way seeing as mods get paid to clean up his mess.

He's doing this manually, you say?

No.

Who is NLC and what is the backstory? im curious now. Btw, I have checked in the members tab, ordered in date of registration, and the registration of new bot accounts is getting out of hand:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=registered;desc;start=0

Just today, there are 20 pages and most of the accounts are the same bot, easily recognizable in the nicknames.
3358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Thinking of downloading Bitcoin Core on: December 08, 2015, 06:23:30 PM
I haven't read any bad reviews about it just yet.
Seems to be pretty secure, but if you're really going to use a wallet on your pc,
I would suggest not to use it that often if it's only for your wallet

Why not tho? Bitcoin Core is probably the safest desktop wallet possible. It has inbuilt encryption, it never shows the private key unless you really want to, and most importantly it has the actual entire blockchain saved locally. I don't think it can get any safer if you want to have a wallet in your computer.
3359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff has lost Faith of Fans with his ridiclous Bitcoin prediction on: December 08, 2015, 06:19:41 PM
Are you going to tell as his ridiculous bitcoin prediction or are you going to leave us in the dark

I searched that story for the word bitcoin and only found two occurrences of it, both of which were in this comment left as feedback.

Although I wanted to read the story to find out the ridiculous bitcoin prediction the webpage became non-responsive after my search, and I had to let chrome kill it. Although it's a well known site I scanned it with virustotal, which confirmed it was clean, so it's probably a javascript heavy page.

Please Bitcoinpro tell us the ridiculous bitcoin prediction.

Are you doubting zerohedge about having some sort of javascript exploit?.. I don't think so. Zerohedge has been a legit page for years, they would never use it against it users. The only possibility would be that the site got hacked and the code modified, but even then it's just most likely your javascript went stupid which happens often, which is why I leave it off.

Hi, did the rates get reduced? I remember seeing it was 0.0013 for Sr and 0.0015 for Hero, now it's 0.0011 for Sr and 0.0013 for Hero? or I got confused?
