To chime in on squeezing the most out of an s-7

Psu quality has a big difference.

I am doing freq 631 on a batch 2 marked at 575 freq . I get more then 5075 gh error rate = .0004%

How does this happen?

Use a 2880 watt psu with your breakout board and your 3 ft 15 awg cables.

Since it is 1 s-7 on the psu the 2880 watt has  lots of overhead.

this is the best I have done with the  2880 watt psu

same machine using an evga 1600 t2 psu  still very good but not quite as good as the 2880 watter

Part of the game is being able to thread water while waiting for a price run up.

Then cashing coins during the run up.

We will have another run up from now til the having.
33483  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Overclock/Overvolt the Avalon6 with a DPS-1200FB Made Simple on: December 19, 2015, 01:36:52 PM
That is why when you backed off from 12.79 to 12.55 the psu cooled as it drew less amps to do the 12.55 volts.

The Avalon six seems to run very well in the 12.55 volt area.

I did get the psu as high as 12.83 volts.  But the hash rate moved very little and the power use needed was much more.

The avalons remind me of gpu mining the top maxed over lock is wasteful.

The sp-20 was also like that.

I have found 12.55 volts is really good for the Avalon sixes.
33484  Economy / Securities / Re: Solo Mining Group Buy? on: December 19, 2015, 12:56:53 PM
Thanks notlist3d!  I'll get in touch with Phil. Anyone interested if we can get Phil on board?  I'm willing to put up .5 BTC on the venture.

I may do it.

10 people max 0.5 btc a piece = 5 btc.

I would want a 1% fee to run it. Not of winnings.

Ie 1% of .5 btc=  .005 btc

so to enter you would send   .505 btc

If ten join  we would have 5.045 btc  why not 5.05 btc well one of the ten would be me and I would not pay myself a 1 % fee.

I would take the 5 btc  buy 2.5 btc at nicehash and 2.5 btc at west hash

We would get about 425 to 450 th at each site  total of 850 - 900 th for about a day.

If you have an interest post here.
33485  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks closed. on: December 19, 2015, 04:10:12 AM
I am late to the mining game but back in 2012-2013-2014 how many ASIC manufacturers were there? There must of been dozens since mining was so profitable.

A lot came out in fall of 2013  when coins  went from 90 to 1100

We made 170 blocks yesterday.
Since  the day was part old diff and part new diff the 170 reads high if you based it on the new diff.

Today will be the first all 93 diff number.

My guess is  we will be under 15.
I think quite a bit of last weeks jump was the bit fury mine going on line.
33486  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Overclock/Overvolt the Avalon6 with a DPS-1200FB Made Simple on: December 19, 2015, 04:06:36 AM
This is a really great article and discussion. One thing I think that was missing from the outset is that this will only work with an input voltage of 220V. It won't work on 120V (nominal) wall power.

I say this based solely on the label which suggests it won't supply enough DC power when powered from a typical 120V outlet.

Which breakout board are you using on this DPS-1200FB power supply?

Mine are all currently running on 120v, including the one that I bumped up the voltage on.

are you using 2 of these per avalon then?  I dont see how at 900w on 120v you can run one avalon with increased voltage to boot

I am using 1 of them, I plan on doing it to another tonight and will take pictures of it running.  Also, it will be a good follow up to verify the results.

How is the Avalon getting enough watts? The PSU on 120v maxes at 900w right?

based on his numbers it must do more maybe 1100.  1100 clean watts would give about  3500gh.

good luck with mining bro.  have some fun with it.
33488  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 19, 2015, 01:07:01 AM
Using a MultiMeter, the 2 x Dell PSU shows 12.1V even though Avalon shows 12V.  Don't see anywhere on the breakout board including the document provided by Holybitcoin / Gekkoscience where I can change the voltage.

it may have an internal pot

some do.

I personally never opened that psu..

Here is a good example of one inside.  A lot are not known till opened like phil mentioned opening PSU's.

The Bitmain server PSU Goxed opened up ... and found one - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1060439.msg13156624#msg13156624 .  No one even knew it was in there but by opening it up he found one and now this PSU could adjust voltage.  But also if you open up a PSU be very careful... electricity can be dangerous.

As someone that ran a charge from my right hang to my left hand passing through my cheat and heart listen to and read the blue bolding.  BTW It felt like a hot hand squeezed my heart pretty hard. I no longer work on hot circuits  for the sake of safety.

even if PSU is unplugged? guess it can still be holding a charge

Did not say it was a psu.

It was a 4 foot florescent bulb powered on while I trouble shot what was wrong.  I had put in a new ballast. I was sweating a lot standing on a chair and I managed to touch both ends of the bulb.

Felt the power run down one arm to the other.  I was lucky my heart is a sound heart.  As I basically paddled it with the power from the ballast.

The key with power work is keep one hand out of it.  The you won't do what I did run the charge across you heart..

As for caps in power supplies shocking me yeah but one handed which is not as bad.  I never knew what a really good or bad shock was until I did it with that 4 foot florescent.
33489  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S7 with APW3 miner wont turn on please help a new guy on: December 19, 2015, 12:58:15 AM
thank you very much for the links. I looked at the side of the PSU and say the Input voltage was 200 VAC as well. I completely overloooked this. I guess Ill be selling it soon then. I have one more question of ignorance to ask. If I got an EVGA supernova 1600 could I power this miner off 120?

thanks
A

yes it does very well with the s-7.

I have used one on one of my s-7's

wow you are really new !

33491  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S7 with APW3 miner wont turn on please help a new guy on: December 18, 2015, 11:33:52 PM
Hi all.

First things first. I am new to this so please keep that in mind this is my first miner ever.

I have a new to me S7 with a new APW3 1600W PSU.  I plugged all PCIE cables into the hash boards and controller and plugged in my ethernet and powered on the PSU. PSU comes on cause I hear the fan whirling away. Nothing turns on on my S7, no lights no fans no ethernet port light activity. I notice there is a small paper clip hole for factory reset as well as a soft button to the left of the ethernet port and I have been pressing that button like mad. The PSU also has a small green and yellow cable that came jumpered together and a red and black small cable with nothing attached. Do I need to jump the black and green like on a regular PSU? My power is 120V on a 20 amp circuit with isolated ground.

Any help is very appreciated

Thanks
MTI
you need 220 volts sorry.  also you are new so I pulled in the photos for you.

 Where do you live? USA?

33493  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help me make a buck. Golden opportunity? on: December 18, 2015, 10:25:52 PM
Hello all.

I really need some advice. i have a golden opportunity lying ahead of me, i just don't know exactly how to go about it, so I wanted some input, advice, and ideas from a community that knows their shit. i mean, you guys are the first google result, after all.

I have a mining idea that may be profitable for my father and I. Let me give you a little background on the sich.

My dad works as an I.T./Computer Network/anything-electronic-or-digital-give-it-to-him worker. He's second in command in the company under the owner, besides being the ONLY computer/tech guy working there. Once in a while he'll outsource extra help if he needs it (he decides who it is). He's basically king shit at this company, and the boss is in love with him. So much in love with him that he pays him 40 grand a year to do work that, in my opinion, is worth more like 150K. This is because he does much more than check network speed and sit on his ass. He made many changes and busted his ass for him and has raised the boss man's profits considerably. This is no way excuses what we want to do, but it just serves as an overview.

The boss is retarded. he doesn't check his electric bills. He doesn't know dick about computers.

My dad uses the company card to purchase whatever the fuck he needs and wants. He has the keys to the whole joint. He is in charge of the server room. He is the only person who touches anything inside any computer, or electronic device for that matter.

Here's the idea: I want to set up a mining rig in that office. I'm thinking along the lines of altcoins, but let me know if there is a BTC opportunity somewhere in there as well. You see, he has remote control from home over all the computers and shit in the server room too. There is at least 30 computers on the main floor, not to mention what powering devices lie in the server room that could be of some help. This, in combination with my father being able to use the company's card to purchase anything he wants on my boss's dime, lends itself an interesting predicament.
1. Any electronics, including ASICS, cost free.
2. Free electricity
3. At least 30 computers
4. A personal server room
5. Remote Access
6. Retarded boss and coworkers

I don't think this could be a million-dollar idea. But possibly a thousand-dollar one.

Whaddaya guys think? Please don't get preachy, or put me down if it's not a profitable idea. Just let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!  Grin

Here is what I think at best you can do 3 avalon 6's since they are not noisy .   cost = 4k if you are lucky to find them

they will hash at  11500gh if you use a good psu.

if all goes well you  will earn your money back by dec 2016 .

what can go wrong your dad gets caught and lose the job plus he faces jail time.

net profit 0 and no job.

plus side  coins raise diff runs low and you dad does not get caught.

you make 2k by July 1 and maybe 3 k by dec next year.  so the upside is 2 -4 k profit in a year.

this  idea of yours = not worth it.
33494  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks closed. on: December 18, 2015, 09:54:35 PM

the huge diff increases can't last, can they?! Grin

I would like to think so but.... S7 & Avalon6 will keep shipping, SP50 may already be out there but I think the big impact is yet to come. Bitfury are going to come on stream sometime in the next few Months. BW.com also in the next Month or two, KNC, A4 etc. There is just so much happening and so much in the wings at the moment. I think we should expect big Difficulty increases for at least the next 2 to 3 Months

Rich

A 1000 th miner at 500 watts with a diff of 55  and a coin price of 230 made  about  $1.204 in a day. power 7 cents.
A 1000 th miner at 250 watts with a diff of 140 and a coin price of 460 makes about $1.194 in a day. power 7 cents

so a diff of 140 with 2 s-7's

would be like a diff of 55 with 5 s-5's

sadly we are at 93  and 140 is not too far off. but I have to think that it could go to 140 with no issues.  as long as price supports it and a coin price of 460 supports it.
33495  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Dec 11 to Jan 11 Sidehack Compac Stick pool club latest setup. on: December 18, 2015, 09:34:35 PM
Just adjust VCORE on the new sticks and make sure your hub can handle 4.

Thanks for the info, but I was wondering about the pool. Do I have to set the other 3 sticks to donation or can they all mine under my single worker?

you can use the one address.

part a money is always 1 part per forum member------ one, stick 100 sticks or  1 stick and 5 s-7's  just has to be at least a stick.

part b money is  (every share you mine)/(every share we all mine)

The stick and the donation  were done early like 70 days ago  we made a few changes in prizes and to keep the list easy for crytpoglance we just let it stay.
33496  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Introducing Tricky's Mining Pools on: December 18, 2015, 09:26:26 PM
I have waited before I replied to the thread.

Since the thread is not moderated I won't be deleted.

I have sold 100k plus on ebay since 2003. More then 1500 positive feedback

I have sold 10k plus here on this site and over 400 trust.

More then 20 people on this site have my mailing address.

I live 3 miles from another member on the site .

My feedback on ebay

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=philipma1957&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2050430.m2531.l4585

I never posted on this thread with the escrow offer that pays the pool.   ie 25 coins in and 25.25 coins back  others mention my offer.

I tell you what   I won't say don't mine with this pool

I will say the pool op has refused  a 1% bounty on the first block by not taking the escrow offer.
I will say the pool op has not made a counter offer such as I don't have 25 btc to escrow but I have 12.5 btc to escrow.
The pool op has said I won't trust anyone to escrow.  My offer was I would pay  the escrow fees to ck or ognasty or escrow myself.

So to all if you want to mine with Tricky-Wicky-Dicky

(I got that right don't I? Or is that what a call a very personal part of myself? damn getting old is tough I just can't remember shit)

it is your coin not mine.

I will say at least 4 or 5 guys have come to this forum since the Nexious ripoff or is it the same guy 5 times.

If I was nexious I would come back to this site full of myself and try again to lift some coin just for the amusement of it.

33497  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks closed. on: December 18, 2015, 09:05:58 PM
yeah I am the first to say a high rollover is exciting but a certain point it is too high
prize is too big .  This thread has given away more then 3btc in coins and gear. Maybe we allow for one more full rollover if it happens. But ideas are welcome.

We are funded for Dec Jan and Feb . So one more rollover is easy enough to do.  If someone hits it problem solved.

33499  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks are now Closed!!! on: December 18, 2015, 08:31:26 PM
Okay we rolled over to bring this to a really good prize of .416 btc

No new accounts

The contest is free.  You must have Signed up your account Oct 31st 2015 or earlier.

You must have 30 posts or more.

So we are now offering the largest 'free' prize ever 0.416 btc  I am not rolling over the  sidehack-novac compac usb stick

The picks open at block 600 made :

Bitcoin Difficulty:   93,448,670,796
Estimated Next Difficulty:

Adjust time:   After 1416 Blocks, About 13.6 days    at 1416 left or 600 made we start

and close at block 1200 made.

Bitcoin Difficulty:   93,448,670,796
Estimated Next Difficulty:
Adjust time:   After 816 Blocks, About 13.6 days At 816 left or 1200 made we stop.

please make you pick like this

1.0 = philipma1957
1.1 = mavericklm  if positve

or

-1.0 = philipma1957
-0.9 = mavericklm   if negative

that allows easy click and drag.

Funding for this is in place I have .416 btc for funding  and I have more funding for further contests.

I am thinking of  doing a twist here

" there will be a winner  even if no one gets it I will award it to the close pick.
last number was 18.14%  which is in the 18.10 to 18.19 slot

So 18.1 was not picked    but 18.0  would have been the close pick"

I do not want to make prize rollover endlessly so I think this is a good twist.

but please let me know if you think another rollover is better.
33500  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks closed. on: December 18, 2015, 08:14:17 PM
So we rollover  and bump to 0.416.
