3361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Energi breaks into Top 50 on CMC on: September 18, 2019, 05:31:32 PM
I think it's difficult for NRG to break Top50 in coinmarketcap. Now the rank is 73, still need a long time for NRG to go up because the volume is still low only $426,463 per 24h.

As some weaker coins bleed out NRG could grab their share of the market. At the moment ETH went up and took a large part of the market along for the ride but not NRG. If this boom is short lived and the pumped part of the market corrects the situation could change for NRG that did not partake in the pump so there's nothing to dump from Wink It could gain a few points.

For those who didn't know you can stake NRG along with many other coins on https://www.mycointainer.com
3362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sad News: Kidnappers now requesting bitcoin as ransom in Nigeria on: September 18, 2019, 05:14:12 PM
Shouldn't this be positive news? Even halfwits from poor African countries who can't find a job and have to kidnap people to bring food to the table are using Bitcoin.

This goes against all those who say Bitcoin is only for tech geeks and an average person won't know how to use it or won't spend time to learn.

Have the same freaking idea once I saw the thread title.
I dont know what is wrong with me but something felt right out of it.

I mean like WOW. Kidnappers using bitcoin? That is some sick idea from sick people who just want the money.
I guess anything goes by now. They are really thinking about it as a currency.

It's not even about kidnappers, but kidnappers in Nigeria. Friggin Nigeria, the capital of poverty.
Quote
According to a report by the Brookings Institution, data from the World Poverty Clock show that Nigeria now has over 87 million people living in poverty.

A country where people live in straw huts and people know how to utilize Bitcoin. We've come a long way in adoption.

You can view this news into two perspectives:

1. Economic Perspective; and
2. General Welfare.

For the first perspective like what you have mentioned, a country that is as poor as Nigeria is utilizing bitcoin in their country. Their economic condition does not hamper their accessibility towards this opportunity of earning cryptocurrencies in their country. At first, I did not think that it may be possible for them to gain access but this gives hope in the future in using cryptocurrencies as the next generation of money.

For the second perspective, we cannot deny the fact that any crime is an unfortunate event. Although kidnapping results to a serious crime which illegally deprives the right of an individual, a life cannot be traded and be regarded as equal to money or property. If people are using bitcoin as their ransom, this may negatively impact the reputation of bitcoin further.

Good post. I agree.

What is wrong with you? How could use of Bitcoin for criminal purposes be a good news? Or just matters to you that Bitcoin is used, no matter for what
Even without such news Bitcoin still struggles with reputation of illegal activities currency that some people are still convinced in.

I'm just being objective. Crime is always going to be there and if Bitcoin ever reaches mass adoption it's going to be used for it even more. If you can't stop crime you can always be happy that they are choosing Bitcoin over USD which is used by crime lords all over the world.
3363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin QR Security Warning on: September 18, 2019, 04:57:21 PM
There are already countless of cases involving QR codes. And if the data you are speaking of-- that "four out of five results returned when asking Google for a 'bitcoin qr generator' lead to scam websites"-- is true, it is further confirmed that using QR code is of very high risk. If the QR code does not come from a very reliable source such as your very own wallet, it is much better to avoid it. Using the actual address is not too much of a hassle as against using QR codes, for example. Better be safe than sorry!

I don’t know why people are too lazy to use the actual address and are looking for an easier way. I hope this tread helps beginners understand that the QR code is completely unsafe.

QR code generated by a trusted software can be trusted. Electrum wallet generates codes and if it gets compromised it won't be the code that falls first but your private keys.

People are lazy and don't understand that the convenience of using a scanner to read an address should not turn them into lazy donkeys who won't even check the scanned address. You have to verify everything before pressing the button.
3364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statistics: Geez, I thought there were more females in bitcoin community on: September 17, 2019, 10:46:26 PM

I know some females on Telegram, but then, you can never be sure because it is Telegram Smiley

At least half of the people on Telegram and Discord who have females in their avatars are males. Cheesy It's funny how many girls have animals and stuff in their profile pictures when guys have busty half-naked girls.

Bitcoin falls under investments stocks and companies. There's not many girls in here just like there's not that many female stock brokers or female experts in gold and silver coins or banking.
3365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin QR Security Warning on: September 17, 2019, 10:39:45 PM
Is bitcoin gained this way really stolen? I would call it given away by idiots. When somebody takes something away from you it's theft but when you don't pay attention and lose it it's as much your fault as that scammer's. There were even bitcoin generators that were supposed to hack the blockchain to steal some coins off other people's transactions. If you fall for this you're a loser.

Why would you need a qr code generator? Even exchanges generate codes for your addresses for free.
3366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shit Dev not shit coin on: September 16, 2019, 10:37:53 PM
The telegram is full of crypto groups that follow new projects and take them apart right up to the cog. Here's a good example: the crooks behind the Crypterium project have now created the GramEx exchange. As for me, in mobile messengers more convenient to follow such news than to go to the forum.

It's the same people jumping from one project to another. It's normal in this space because they don't have to face any consequences when their project fails. People should learn to check new projects and teams and weed out dev teams made of scammers.

Only the market and the community can verify an altcoin now. You can't expect the police or the SEC to do it for you.

3368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: artificial intelligence can be dangerous on: September 15, 2019, 08:24:48 PM
The AI poses a risk only if you allow it to control your environment. As long as it's learning by itself in a sandbox it can't harm anyone. The problem begins when you connect it to climate control, let it operate your car, regulate voltage, traffic, operate trains and other heavy equipment.

The production of cash is not dangerous because you have to manually put that cash on the street. AI can print all it wants but people should handle payouts.

3369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If core bitcoin community moved from Bitcointalk to Reddit then.. on: September 15, 2019, 08:11:33 PM
I hope it won't. Bitcointalk has it's special climate. I like being here despite this forum being a little too basic and too simple. There are some really great forums with features chats emoticons but bitcointalk is still popular and has its charm. I prefer it over reddit.

I don't think the community would move to reddit. They would ask for a new forum that would be only about cryptocurrencies. I'd rather stop using forums than move to reddit.
3370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $2 Billion Lost in Mt. Gox Bitcoin Hack Can Be Recovered, Lawyer Claims on: September 15, 2019, 07:59:37 PM
How are they going to get back the money from people who profited? If Vinnik was selling everything through his exchange he only got maybe 10% of what the coins are worth now so he doesn't have the money to cover everything. You also can't ask people who bought coins on BTC-e to give it back even if you trace them.

Hello 5 years ago you bought some bitcoins on exchange and we want them back? Cheesy
I don't have it! I sold in 2015 for 500 dollars!
3371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin scammer caught tortured and killed. on: September 15, 2019, 07:53:46 PM
I do not think such an action was needed at all. If they had caught the scammer they should have handed him over to the police and the law would have taken action.

The level of tolerance in our society has been going down gravely. Every day we read and see such inhuman crimes being committed in the name of justice. People tend to forget that they are not animals and as human beings, we have to obey and follow laws that have been created by us.

What did they accomplish? they themselves are now criminals.

They wanted money. He died because he did not want to hand over what he had owed them.

If they handed him over to the Police they would have confiscated the money and probably charged the rest of the perpetrators along with the scammer who died. They did not want that so they tortured him to get the money. He asked for it if you ask me.
3372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are Virgin Bitcoins on: September 15, 2019, 07:38:59 PM
Virgin Bitcoin is a term used to refer to any freshly mined Bitcoin that has not been used for any transaction at all.
The question, where can I buy virgin bitcoin is kinda off? If you bought virgin bitcoin, then it'll be transacted... Then it's not virgin anymore.

Though it's kinda interesting, but it's still bitcoin. Still has value so I don't really mind having a 'virgin bitcoin' or not. But it would be fun to have one.

It would still be virgin in a way because there would only be one address in its history before yours and that address would belong to the miner or the pool. The coins would still be clean because there would be no way it could come from a theft or a hack or that at any point it was used to hire a hitman or something similar.

These people are afraid of taint and rejection of coins by exchanges. It's stupid but if they are willing to pay extra it's their choice.
3373  Economy / Economics / Re: The future of banking industry in blockchain on: September 15, 2019, 05:03:19 PM
Ripple Blockchain is providing all the necessary tools for banking industry and  more future we will see more blockchain platforms will ease banking operations to blockchain based applications

And the question is: why is XRP losing so much value? Is the banking uninterested?

Blockchain is overrated. It's great to hold information but not so great for banking.
3374  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Money is Dirty Money on: September 15, 2019, 04:58:13 PM
The only dirty money is money taken from someone by force or through scam. If that person willingly gives money away it's not dirty. He pays to play a game. When you pay to ride a rollercoaster is that money dirty? You had fun and you paid for it. It's the same when you gamble. You pay for the game and have a chance to win more than you came with.

If people were deceiving others to make them gamble it would be dirty but the rules are clear.
3375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - Friends & Family adoption - Share your experience. on: September 15, 2019, 04:37:03 PM
I had better and worse experiences with introducing my friends to Bitcoin. Some did great and in time became hodlers and some tried trading and failed. None of them had any real issues with me they all treated their gains and losses as their own achievements or mistakes.

I felt bad for some of them because I wanted them all to succeed but if someone goes all in when I tell them not to and then panic sell without even asking me for opinion it's their problem.
3376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: tell us 3 mistakes you do when you start trading on: September 15, 2019, 04:25:42 PM
1. when bitcoin was pumping: "i missed the boat on bitcoin, better buy something cheaper!"
2. after the market started crashing: "i'll just wait for the price to come back up!"
3. when i didn't use stop losses: "i'll just set a mental stop loss!"

these attitudes led to some pretty tragic losses for me. Cheesy

Setting up a mental stop loss Cheesy this one is so funny because it's so true. Probably half of all traders do it at first and then they wake up one day and see they're 5% on the loss.

"oh shit' i'm already at a loss, I won't sell now and wait for it to recover, it can't be much worse" And then they go -10% and it just makes them more and more miserable until the breaking point comes.
3377  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Blockchain trigger a massive boost in our economy? on: September 14, 2019, 10:05:09 PM
I don't understand how it would boost the economy. Blockchain is not producing anything and it's not a company that can give jobs to people.

Blockchain is a tool that can help make things more transparent but it won't make farmers produce more food and factories make more cars just because it's cheaper and faster to send money store vital information and confirm identity.
3378  Economy / Economics / Re: Average savings across the globe on: September 14, 2019, 09:59:30 PM
If someone from India and USA doing the same job but their salary will be huge in difference so where they born is really matter to decide how good they are financially.
Did you mean same job in the same place? Or one from USA and one from India. If they are not in the same place, please do account of average living cost/standard as well. You know both the country has a huge difference in living cost. Therefore, it is basically pulling back to the same.
Macroeconomy is a combination of a lot of factors, you can't conclude anything with one or two single factors.

The place where you spend your income makes a big difference. 20 dollars a day would be a disaster for an American but something normal for someone in India but the key factor is that for 5 dollars you can take your whole family to a restaurant in India and in the USA you'll get a big mac with fries for that.

How much you're spending depends on the economy and your mindset. If you live in a poor country or a country with problems like Greece or Venezuela you won't be saving even if you have a saver's mindset.
3379  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My simulations for testing Martingale strategy on: September 14, 2019, 09:36:08 PM
Please guys don't quote OP because it takes too much space in the thread or at least remove the pictures when you're doing it.

The simplest conclusion is that martingale gives you a bit of profit in the beginning and the more you have in the bank the harder it is for you to fail and lose everything. Don't start with low bank or you'll have no chance to earn profit but if you are willing to risk a lot of money it's not the worst strategy but it always makes you lose in the end.
3380  Economy / Economics / Re: Mining in the cloud vs simply buying bitcoin on: September 14, 2019, 09:20:04 PM
Actually, both of them are beneficial. Cloud mining is profitable since every mine of bitcoin increasing when it is growing up. If you are a miner, you will just look for rigs and mine till you want. Buying bitcoin is so good also. I guess those who buy it are too lucky when it is low value. As of now, bitcoin is almost 12k dollars.

What are you talking about? Cloud mining is only profitable if you "work" for them by getting referrals participating in all their games polls and giveaways.

If it were profitable so many cloud mining companies would not go bust. Now there's almost none left. Buying bitcoin is more profitable than mining yourself or in the cloud and is also much less risky.
