3381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't an exchange do this already? on: March 28, 2014, 11:26:44 AM
Think of it this way.

If MtGox was a Tor based exchange, would there be any problems with it?
No, because Mark knows that Tor cannot be hacked.

So.....

You have absolutely no idea what caused the mtgox issues.

The method of reaching the servers has nothing to do with it.
Tor doesn't provide any additional security, all it does is provide anonymity.

The security of a website, their systems and their back-end is entirely unrelated to whether Tor is used or not.
If you do not understand this you're not even remotely qualified to make any comment on this subject.

All Tor would accomplish is make it even easier for the owner to run off with the coins.

What caused the issues was Mark and Mark alone.
He is a thief and a greedy pig.

How would a respectable exchange (who is already operating) run off with your coins?
What are they going to claim?
Malleability attack? LOL

Yes, the security of a website and their back-end is what matters but additional security is WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY.

Also, if you do not know how Tor can protect you then clearly you have no clue on the subject.

"The method of reaching the servers has nothing to do with it."
OK, so I guess you can hack any server without knowing it's location/ip right?
You must be very bright!!!!

Seriously,
Please stick to your Doge coins and stop wasting bandwidth.

3382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't an exchange do this already? on: March 28, 2014, 11:13:28 AM
OK, maybe Tor is slow for an exchange.

How about an online wallet then?

... I'm getting this feeling you don't have a clue about security.

I'm worried my things are going to get stolen, so I'll put my safe in a public library.. because clearly that'll help.

Bro, people will keep using online wallets.

What you and I do is a different matter.
The fact is that Bitcoin NEEDS a reliable online wallet and exchange.

I think it's obvious isn't it, make your exchange hidden and you won't get traffic.
Just like opening McD in the sewer who would want to do that  Cheesy
Besides...
What makes you think a TOR server is less vulnerable.
All hackers got to do is implement TOR in their trojans.

How long did it take the U.S. and U.K secret services to crack down Silk Road?

That is because DPR posted in this forum about Silk Road in his real name... There was no other clue

EXACTLY!!!!!!

Tor is safe, that is my point.

3387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why didn't an exchange do this already? on: March 28, 2014, 10:53:26 AM
OK, I am still puzzled as to why an exchange doesn't use Tor.

It provides more security than having your server known and vulnerable to attacks.

So why didn't they do it already?

3389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are producing a "Bitcoin For Dummies" video series, watch our first video now on: March 27, 2014, 05:22:04 PM
Thank you all for the feedback, it all helps! (well except the one from S4VV4S)

I really like the idea about the visuals, that could help a lot. Hopefully for some of the next ones budget will allow that.
S4VV4S now to have your constructive feedback implemented we will need you to sponsor the next video with about 12 BTC, they are needed for a boob job.

To the other guys, if you like the project and want to help, share the video, more views means more initiative  for someone to sponsor the next one.

We are already thinking the next one to explain why Bitcoin is not a ponzi. This one seems to be one of the more popular misconceptions, right?

Well this should be good indeed!
And if you will get 12BTC for boobs operation spent it to buy better camera/lights instead of boobs Smiley

May I add a better actor as well?

seriously look at this and compare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reo7WbibxaQ

And this is A GUY and he does a much better job at getting your attention.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that you are promoting Bitcoin, but....
You are doing it wrong.
I will not bullshit you here.

You can hate me all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that YOU are NOT creative!

Nuff said!!!

So you are into guys now?

You have to learn that there is constructive critique that helps and there is just being prick and hateful on people that actually try to do something good.
You are doing the second one.

I actually gave you advice on your other post.

And I actually wrote a whole paragraph in order to respond to this but....

Maybe you are right.
Maybe I did come out a bit too harsh to begin with.

I apologize.

3390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China orders banks to shut Bitcoin exchange accounts on: March 27, 2014, 03:14:20 PM
Gee.... more FUD to buy cheap coins...

^^^^ EXACTLY!!!!
3391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China orders banks to shut Bitcoin exchange accounts on: March 27, 2014, 03:09:09 PM
It's OK, they are just trying to bring the BTC price down so they can buy more coins cheaper.

Trying?

True it has dropped quite a bit but, are you panicking?

3393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is doomed. Thanks IRS!!! You Ass hats! on: March 27, 2014, 02:57:17 PM
It's not illegal. That's good news.

Remember, the IRS only taxes Americans. There are 248 nations.

But the USA is the richest nation on the planet...by quite some way. This will have a negative effect on Bitcoin.

LOL, which planet?Huh

3394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 10 Commandments of BitCoin on: March 27, 2014, 02:47:05 PM
This is so sacrilegious and mocking of Christianity.  Are you happy now?
Yeah, most xians think they wrote the ten commandments.

The original OP is probably not a Christian.  Just another basher wanting to spread hate for God's children.  Why dont they quote the heathen's books?

What does being a Christian have to do with it?
The OP could be Muslim or a Buddhist. Does it matter?

Religion is what YOU make of it.
If you decide to be a good person then God (no matter how you call him) is with you.

That being said, the OP is trying to set several rules we should all follow to keep Bitcoin alive.

Just my BTC0.02

Though shall pay the minor transaction fees!
To keep the network alive.

3396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Questions about Bitcoin on: March 27, 2014, 12:50:24 PM
is cold storage really the only way to be completly safe though? if i have a really good private key that should keep my coins safe in my desktop wallet right?

Not if you don't encrypt your Bitcoin directory/wallet - Talking about Windows here.

You can easily do that with just a few steps.

EDIT: As to the OP, read above. If you are using Windows either use Armory or encrypt your wallet and your Bitcoin directory.

how would i encrypt my wallet and what is armory. i have windows. and i use a passphrase with my wallet.

Armory: https://bitcoinarmory.com/

You can encrypt part(s) of your hard drive(s) (as separate encrypted drives) using TrueCrypt (Free) or paid software such as FolderLock.

All you have to do is transfer your bitcoin directory (found in the users/appdata/roaming folder) to the encrypted drive and create a shortcut/batch file that starts the Bitcoin client but loads all data from the encrypted drive.

EDIT: IF you decide to go with the latter, make tests that your encrypted Bitcoin folder works and delete the original.

EDIT 2: ALWAYS make backups of your wallet.dat

3397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get Mike Maloney in the Bitcoin Team on: March 27, 2014, 12:25:58 PM
Mike Maloney is a man of the free market, I don't think he would align himself with just bitcoin or any other specific cryptocurrency, his position probably is let the free market sort it out and see what reigns supreme at the end.

Probably, but my guess is that he already has Bitcoins.
Why else would he do a talk about it?  Wink
3398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get Mike Maloney in the Bitcoin Team on: March 27, 2014, 12:25:03 PM
Do you think he could find any benefits doing this job?

If he started to show interest on Bitcoin.....

3400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin was a currency? on: March 27, 2014, 12:02:18 PM
Can someone explain to me HOW Bitcoin is property?

I dunno, probably property as in you own it; it's a thing.

That is exactly my point.
I own a lot of virtual products but they are not considered my "property", they are considered virtual products which I happened to have purchased and use(d) <-- And by law that is the only thing I am allowed to do with my legally purchased virtual products.
If there is ANY property rights involved it's intellectual property which belongs to the company that sold it to me.

And I am still confused about the "property" thing regarding Bitcoin.
They could have classified it as a virtual product and TAX it... but property??.....
Common......
