3381  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Overview of all bitcoin casinos] Latest update: 17-08-17 on: August 17, 2017, 05:11:38 PM
Nice roundup! It should be noted that BitDice is phasing out their investment option in favor of an ICO model. There seems to be an option to convert your Bankroll investment into ICO tokens, but that might not be everyone's cup of tea.

What do you think of Kingdice?
3382  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So far Voting % result shows that there is no bitcoin split. on: August 17, 2017, 04:45:06 PM
Indeed, this can be adding more confusion for people (just like me) who seem could not really fathom all the technical details on cryptocurrency. All I am wishing is that soon Bitcoin should be safe and sound after all these talks of dizzying splits and forks.

Will this be the one scheduled on November of this year? Well, if that will lead me to have some free coin in my wallet, then let it be as I am so willing to accept free money anytime. We can all sell the new coin into Bitcoin once it is already possible and in a way help Bitcoin remain valuable.

Bitcoin is safe and sound, it's only the price that could fluctuate Smiley

Yep, that's the split that is scheduled for October / November, however I'm not sure whether they'll stick to that deadline. BCH was also rescheduled on short notice, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened to 2x. Just keep track of Bitcointalk / Reddit as the fork date approaches and you should be fine.
3383  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin on the high side? on: August 17, 2017, 03:58:25 PM
Is it still a good timing to enter the market for bitcoin? or should i wait for price to drop before entering?

Think about the following -- which would bother you more:

a) Not entering the market and seeing the train leave the station with BTC rising to USD 8k

b) Entering the market and seeing your investment dwindle while BTC drops to USD 2k

I personally think that BTC will reach USD 8k at one point in the future, but I also think it will heavily correct before reaching that price point. So choose wisely and know your mindset. Panic buying after the fact is just as bad as panic selling.
3384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why use Bitcoin for anything other than...? on: August 17, 2017, 02:32:25 PM
Bitcoin is so simple, yet so dang hard to understand. That is the beauty of it. It is simple yet complex. A paradox!
you don't need to understand bitcoin to use it. that is the rookie mistake most people make.

People don't need to understand Bitcoin to use it as a currency, that's true.

But they should still try to understand Bitcoin if they want to use it as an investment, simply because it's silly to invest in something that you don't fully understand. That's how you get all the alts, ICOs, etc...

See, the simplest way to explain Bitcoin is that it is virtual gold. That is all it is.
a better explanation would be "digital currency"

See, that's the fun part. It's both!

What it's not is a stock like the dot-com-bubble comparisons seem to imply. It's a technology, not a product. It's the internet, not pets.com.
3385  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin's price on: August 17, 2017, 01:41:41 PM
Why are you all so sure that the price will rise? Why don't you think about cyclicity? After every ascent there is always a decline. We see a long period of growth. I do not rule out that once the whales sell their desired amount of bitcoin the price will fall and we will see for example $ 3,500.

Get out of here with your logic. This time it's different (tm) and Bitcoin will go on growing forever. /s

People seem to blinded by the bull market right now. The growth right now is much saner and healthier than during the previous booms, but reversal is bound to come sooner or later. I just hope the market won't get blindsided once the tide turns.
3386  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-16] PayPal Ex-COO: Bitcoin, Crypto Fulfilling Our Original Vision on: August 17, 2017, 09:28:53 AM
Former PayPal COO David Sacks has said cryptocurrency is “fulfilling PayPal’s original vision” to “create ‘the new world currency.’”

That guy just summed up how I feel about PayPal and Bitcoin in general. Bitcoin is what PayPal was meant to be. Simple internet payments without the need for bank accounts or credit cards. The only thing standing in the way now is the scaling issue.

Even if BTC fails somehow there are alts like ripple waiting in line.

Ripple is just PayPal with extra steps Tongue

Apart from that I agree.
3387  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin rises, so people Google ‘bitcoin,’ so then bitcoin rises on: August 16, 2017, 10:59:24 PM
Google trends don't tell you anything about the current growth spurts other than that they are... well... happening. However it helps to visualize the positive feedback loop that is the media and Bitcoin's price. I guess what you are actually seeing is people getting primed for the next growth phase, when everyone will be reminded that Bitcoin is still a thing: "Remember when you were thinking that it's too late to invest in Bitcoin? Well, it wasn't."

Forbes has been covering about the Bitcoin and Blockchain topic far before it reach "$570 - $4000 in less than a year" I don't even know where the Bitcoin value jumped from 570$ to 4000$ in less than 1 year

Oh but it did!

Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it.
3388  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: best exchange to sell 10 BTC on: August 16, 2017, 07:53:27 PM
Any reputed exchange like Bitstamp, Kraken, etc. Don't worry 10 BTC is a lot for everyone. If you need quite urgently You can use Kraken safely as long you don't cross the daily/monthly limit. Using Loacalbitcoin as it has been suggested is not so good as you won't have a good rate

+1 for Kraken and Bitstamp.

In addition to the daily / monthly limit, keep in mind the following:

1) You will probably need to get your ID verified at the respective exchange. This process may take days if you're unlucky, so take care of this early.

2) Depending on your legislation you may have to register larger incoming bank transfers (eg. Germany)
3389  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin Affiliate Programs on: August 16, 2017, 07:34:12 PM
Most Bitcoin casinos have an affiliate program where you get a profit share of either the edge or the amount wagered:

However I can't speak for the profitability of either of those as this is the first time I actually bothered digging out my referral links Wink

Also keep in mind that those sites are in a legal grey area. But then again most of crypto is.
3390  Economy / Speculation / Re: Isn't speculation and volatility problem for cryptocurrency? on: August 16, 2017, 05:16:27 PM
We're still in the process of finding the "right" price for Bitcoin, hence the volatility. It will decrease with growing market cap. Once Bitcoin becomes boring we know that we've succeeded Smiley

Until then volatility and speculation are what bootstrap the Bitcoin economy. Merchant adoption will only increase once Bitcoin's scalability has been improved with transaction fees reaching saner levels again.
3391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin go pass the 5000 USD mark? on: August 16, 2017, 03:14:57 PM
I don't think we're going to reach 5k USD just yet. At least I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

However I would also never try to dissuade anyone from entering crypto with a sane amount of money. Long term I'm very bullish about BTC and it never ceases to surprise me. But I honestly think we're going to see 3k again before reaching 5k.

Proof me wrong, BTC, I dare you Grin
3392  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy High Sell Low on: August 16, 2017, 02:55:13 PM
I'll tell you why I don't like short-term traders.... is because they think they are smarter than the markets. If they had any real skills they would be working like everyone else and buying Bitcoins with their earnings. Bitcoin is a limited commodity, with a 0.4% increase on average PER DAY. Any smart person would just invest and HODL. Instead, these traders want more and get greedy trying to short the market.

HODLEr for LYfe

Are people really still trying to short BTC? Most stories I have heard of people trying to short BTC didn't end well. One does not simply short BTC.

Apart from that, give sellers a break! Just relax and buy the dips, that's what their for. I'm not sure why you're even so upset about it. Real hodlers don't faze.
3393  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So far Voting % result shows that there is no bitcoin split. on: August 16, 2017, 02:22:40 PM
So which of the segwit are we experiencing this week or so? Regular segwit or segwit 2x ? I am  kinda contused
Segwit and Segwit2x are not two distinct things. Segwit2x is an extension of Segwit, so when Segwit activates, so will part of Segwit2x. Segwit2x contains additional things on top of Segwit but those will activate later.

Currently Segwit is not activated yet.

To further clarify (or confuse): The Segwit2x extension of regular Segwit is incompatible with regular Segwit (the one being activated now). That's the reason behind the probable split into a Segwit chain and a Segwit2x chain. If Segwit2x activates, regular Segwit nodes will discard Segwit2x blocks due to their blocksize. Segwit2x nodes will have to discard regular Segwit transactions as part of their replay protection.
3394  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyone familiar with TETHER?? on: August 16, 2017, 12:14:34 PM
Its not clear who runs Tether. Their bank balance is not transparent. Their 'transparency' page only shows input of what they entered. Doesn't necessarily reflect the actual balance in their bank account(s).

It doesn't even need to reflect the actual balance of their bank accounts.

To quote Tether's legal page:

Quote
There is no contractual right or other right or legal claim against us to redeem or exchange your Tethers for money. We do not guarantee any right of redemption or exchange of Tethers by us for money. There is no guarantee against losses when you buy, trade, sell, or redeem Tethers.

https://tether.to/legal/

So yeah, caveat emptor. Use it as a means of balance transfer, if you must, but try to avoid holding onto it.
3395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I sell? on: August 16, 2017, 11:14:32 AM
I'm not bullish on either of these alts, but with a little luck and patience both will probably recover. With LTC I wouldn't hold my breath for astronomic gains, ETH is another story, however I also think it's overvalued right now (ICOs even moreso).

Keep in mind that while most alts made a great comeback from a fiat perspective, most of them still got outperformed by BTC in the long run. But I see that you are already in the right state of mind by thinking in selling for BTC and not fiat.

If you want to play it safe just hold some and keep some.
3396  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyone familiar with TETHER?? on: August 16, 2017, 10:32:12 AM
Keep in mind that in addition to all of the USD risks of a USD pegged crypto-currency, you also have the counter party risk of the Tether issuers going belly up. Tethers are IOUs, nothing more. Great for transactions if you need to move money between exchanges real quick, not so much as investment. You'd have all the downsides of a centrally issued crypto-currency without the crazy highs of the alt coin market.
3397  Economy / Speculation / Re: Interesting comparison of Bitcoin price with major companies. on: August 15, 2017, 10:29:20 PM
This chart freaked me out somewhat so I'm interested to get the opinion of some Bitcoin experts.
Bitcoin's total value has now surpassed most major corporations. In the past few weeks it's leapfrogged some of Wall Street's biggest names.
Is that a sign that things are getting crazy or is it natural that a new major currency player should be worth a lot more than even the biggest firms?

https://www.facebook.com/thesharesguy/photos/a.1918619358392204.1073741828.1872336579687149/1918618831725590/?type=3

Apples and oranges. Corporations make money and pay dividends, the other is money. Look at the gold market cap for a better comparison (and a glance at the moon).
3398  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 15, 2017, 09:01:15 PM
Do you think we'll see any of those coins if he reveals himself?

Why would he ever reveal himself? The way AsicMiner was run back in the day Friedcat would probably have done just that. But Friedcat and AsicMiner are definitely gone for good.

I still wonder what happened. Friedcat just running off and leaving one of the greatest mining companies behind just doesn't add up.
3399  Economy / Economics / Re: Stock market vs. Bitcoin??? on: August 15, 2017, 04:49:58 PM
Hi traders!
Does somebody here do trading in stock market and also trading in bitcoin? Which is more profitable and safe?
Thanks ahead!

You can lose money trading the stock market just as easy as trading Bitcoin. Just go for leverage Wink

(on a serious note, don't go for leverage. Not until you really know what you're doing.)

According to a trading friend of mine, stock markets are much easier to handle and analyze than cryptocurrencies, since those are much more chaotic and volatile. However he didn't trade Crypto for long and didn't have as much experience back then, so it may just be a question of knowing the in and outs of your market environment.

Apart from that -- stock markets offer a wider range of order options than your run-off-the-mill crypto exchange. However keep in mind that you're likely to face much higher trading fees than in crypto. So unless you're running with big money, fees will be taking a huge bite off your profits.
3400  Economy / Securities / Re: Looking for a list of all dice/casino sites that accept outside investments on: August 15, 2017, 04:16:21 PM
Does anybody have something like this? Or even just a suggestion for me? I'm looking to start investments at several casinos.

Stick to the big names. Crypto-games, bitdice, bitvest, yolodice. Safedice doesn't have the best volume out of them, if you can aim to invest 25% in each of the 4 casinos that i've mentioned beforehand then you should be able to make a decent amount of profit over time.

BitDice are changing towards an ICO model and will not be accepting traditional bankroll investments anymore.

Apart from that, definitely stick to the big names. They have more betting volume and are less likely to make a run with your money (although that risk still exists, of course). Accordingly also stay away from newer dice sites and wait until they have proven themselves for at least 6-12 months, lest you get scammed.
