Yep, exactly what artixtn said, don't skip my boy.

I've had  cards reset and go to 100% for no reason, so don't think just because you're running low tdp and rig is sitting pretty under 1kw you're safe, things happen, if cards go to default you'll be happier 'n hell you have a nice buffer. Plus running the PSU's on a lower load is always a good thing.
342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PSU for 1080ti on: December 08, 2017, 09:43:15 PM
I run either 2 EVGA 850's and have since migrated to all 1600w EVGA T2's. Once I get in the warehouse and don't care about the noise I'll do the rest w/server PSU's
343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Setting up my first *ghetto* mining rig!! on: December 08, 2017, 07:55:00 PM
OP,
For the sake of safety, I would use 1 or max 2 server PSUs, preferably of the same model and condition. 3 different PSUs, even good quality, seem the weak point to me.
With server PSUs, you assemble the cabling by yourself and make sure every contact is strong and stable - very important when dealing with high currents. Additionally, you are not restricted to the configuration of power connectors.
Will the rig be enclosed or there will be free air flow? Low temperatures affect negatively computer hardware - I had a case when the miner started only after the ambient temperature got >15C. Haven't figured what was the problem - either the HDD or the server PSU.

From my calculations, you rig would be running OK with 2x 750-1000W or 1x 1600-2000W server PSU + a DC-DC ATX converter (picoPSU). If you're a skilled DIY enthusiast, I can help you with details in PM.

Yep, I would had bought a couple from www.parallelminer.com but they're in the US and the Custom charges were gonna rape me. I will keep exploring that option to replace the PSUs I have. But next week I have to have the rig online.

It's gonna be open air. Temperatures right now at night are already ~5C. :/

Everything sold on parallel miner can be found for 1/5th the price anywhere else. They just make it easy to source everything from one spot. just buy the server psu's, buy the breakout boards, you're good to go.

15,500 a freaking coin!

taking more profit today.

As for nicehash  had to be an inside job.

they use multiple signature addresses.

cashed-out today too -- getting ready for a major dip when futures trading comes online on Sunday night.

inside job.... or.... a disgruntled employee?
You think futures will crash BTC I see people on both sides of the fence? I'm guessing BTC will at least ride up until then // when you say you cashed out what'd you cash out into?

If anyone's interesting
This is a pretty opinionated piece and I could be totally wrong and get set back a lot in my progress with the moves I made. . so naturally I'm hoping they're the right ones xD

thanks man! you saying you like the outro music or don't? xD

zhash suprnova for zen /suprnova for btg and luckpool for some hush, idk if its the best setup but works for me Cheesy

I just put most of my altcoin stash into BTC in the crazy climb, now I'm going to start accumulating some more alts back up

Hard to say exactly what the best move is but as long as I'm in the game I'll profit some lol Cheesy

No, music is good bro lol

Well it's counter productive to your channel but if you're just wanting solely profit, then I would just invest the rest of your money into bitcoins vs more mining equipment.

We made double in fiat/USD what we invested last year through mining, but if we would have just let our bitcoins sit in the wallet instead of buying the equipment, we would have made 10x fiat. 5 x's more money by just letting the coins we already had sit there, vs buying tons of equipment and even though double our money, made 5'x less money than doing absolutely... nothing.
But if you look at the price of Bitcoin to date, then the Bitcoin mining industry does not seem so expensive. Thus, all the Bitcoin will be stored on your wallet, and therefore you need to pamper yourself with some things.

The point if the goal is profit, just profit, then my and everyone elses mining earnings were beat by over 500%. We spent close to 200 Bitcoins at the time, which was around 400k, and partners sold out at 800k which on the outside fiat was doubled, but that was only 120 bitcoins (they cashed in @7k) vs the 200 that was invested.

You can do it very easily in linux with the side effect of running a better, more stable OS for your mining rig.

I'm running windows 10 for the past year with not one single problem with stability.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Guide] How to Setup and Use smOS Simple Miner - Easiest Mining OS on: December 08, 2017, 05:36:43 PM
Hey Vosk,

How would you rate smOS compared to nvOC?

I'm up to 8 rigs now, all running nvOC and it can be a bit of a pain to manually tweak x8 1main and x8 3bash files.

Does smOS feature a central management console that it easier to manage a small farm?  What about rigs with mixed cards?  Can those be tweaked both individually and as a single group?

Thanks!

smos is easiest as it has the web portal so once you set up your rig groups (rig groups are your miner and config/pool settings) you just choose which rig group, save, and reboot the miner so it's done.

Roof fans and vents might be an option - or replace some of the panels in or the entire roll-up door with a bit "louvers" setup for the intake venting.

Those are some awesome ideas definitely going to have to look into it! My construction guy did say "Don't worry about it, we'll just vent everything up, I'll knock however many holes you want in that ceiling"

Sadly I STILL haven't been able to meet up with the landlord, my agent is telling me not to worry it's just a conflict in our schedules, but still, I just want to check it out, secure the location and start the process - setting up internet alone takes 3 weeks + here so I'll be running off hotspots in the mean time.

Sorry, Ghetto fail - a Ghetto rig would not have used an add2psu, it would have used a paperclip... like me Tongue

Good build congrats!

For PSU's just don't cheap out there, I started with dual 850's and now I'm using all EVGA 1600 T2's. I'll probably start using server PSU's since they're like 1/3 the price of EVGA's but I don't know. Sometimes I think I just like spending money for no reason.
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 07, 2017, 10:27:33 PM

I have good news on these  if you want to use a server pc  and not an atx.

sidehack has a pcie  to molex break out board he built a while ago for risers.

it has  2  pcie on and 3  molex 4 pin out..

so 2 of them  and some molex to  sata adapters would let you use a server board with these.

as always, you're the man, Phil!~

I think I'll pass on the brown board though, I think the black w/6 pin just would be a safer bet.

Trying to get Amortec to drop from 1650 but doesn't look like he will Sad
352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 07, 2017, 09:13:37 PM
Anyone have thoughts on these boards and have used them compared to the black boards Phil bought?

Black boards I was quoted $1650 shipped for 10
These boards quoted $1500 shipped for 10

Just wondering if I should pay the extra money for the black boards or go with these cheaper ones?
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Starter kit for dummies? on: December 07, 2017, 08:29:59 PM
Hi all,

I'm considering to start mining alt coins and need some help.

Does anyone have the time to help me with a starter kit (list of what I need) and approx the cost.

All help is highly appreciated.

Thank you all

The threads are full of them, check out phils thread and the tons of others that will list exactly what you need.

Start by mining these threads Cheesy

356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nvidia 1060 vs 1070 vs 1080 vs 1080Ti on: December 07, 2017, 08:52:44 AM

Viable if you run them at about 230 watts or less (180 ballpark for the power supply that is ALSO running the MB/RAM/HD stuff) - and your power limit setting is RELIABLE (which is not always the case on Windows, Afterburner among other options will sometimes LOSE settings on one or more cards after a driver reset).
I wouldn't push them much if any harder than 700 watts at the wall even on a GOOD power supply, for long term reliability reasons - even with the TDP turned down, you still get SPIKES on power draw quite a bit above the set point.

On an overall "system cost" basis if you are aiming for max efficiency, the 1070 ti beats the 1080 ti on a hash/$ basis AND on a hash/watt basis - but the 1080 ti system will have a bit more ability to expand hashrate *IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH POWER SUPPLY CAPACITY* and are willing to live with lower efficiency - and the figures come out pretty close, you're not going to see a 1070 ti based rig making money and a 1080 ti rig losing money unless you're pushing the 1080 ti cards a LOT harder.

At this point, on both the 1070 ti and the 1080 ti my "go to" card is the EVGA SC version.
I like my Gigabyte Aorus 1080 ti cards, but the dual-8 pin power connector makes them a headache to get multiple cards hooked up compared to the 8+6 on the EVGA SC, and since I'm aiming for good efficiency the cooling on both cards is plenty and they perform equally 'till you push them up past about 220 watts (the better cooling on the Aorus lets it boost higher at that point for a bit higher hashrate and efficiency).
The SC also tends to cost less than the Aorus, but on a $750 ballpark card the $10-$20 usual difference isn't a big deal in and of itself.

5 x 1070 ti also fits into the power budget of my rigs, where I end up having to run only 3 x 1080 ti and set them to a somewhat less than best efficiency point (and STILL end up with less total hashrate).
Down side is the 5 card rig WILL take up a fair bit more space - but even there it's not an issue in my specific case as my current "shelf/rack" design fits a 5 card rig very nicely on a single shelf with good cooling, but would be overkill for 3 and WON'T fit a pair of 3-card rigs on one shelf without major cooling issues.

Thanks for that breakdown QuintLeo - I'm currently running all 5 and 6 card 1080 TI rigs, just bought the parts to make a 1070 TI rig today to decide if I expand with the 70's or the 80's - Power and space no longer a problem, but I do try to run max efficiency and these 70's have me wondering if it will be worth it in the LONG RUN to go with which one.

Thanks again, hope to hear more.

No, WE, the miners lost millions.
358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Mining OS] SimpleMining.net - Easy to use GPU MINING Operating System on: December 07, 2017, 08:09:09 AM
I'm using SMOS for quite a bit time, and pretty happy about it.

Last 5 months I have not touched anything and today I have checked status and I see that one GPU is not listed, I can't see for how long it is offline at the pool or at SMOS.

There is probably something dead or needs to be checked, but since rig is far away from me I will do it later.

My question is: Will there be an option to send report by mail about offline rigs or changes in configurations?

Thanks!

would be nice to have a monitor - it's why i haven't switched over from windows yet. no monitoring.

i do like that it was literally plug and play for the drivers, booted up and found all 6 GPU's right away.

With windows it does take more time for the initial, have to download nvidia driver updates, then 90% of the time I have to plug in 1 card at a time, reboot till it reads all 6. BUT once you do that, there's tons of miner monitors and haven't had 1 single issue with win10 in the past year, so still on the fence migrating farm to smos.
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Automating loading Afterburner profiles on: December 07, 2017, 07:41:08 AM
if you can't use cmd line for batch file worst case you can simulate mouse clicks and intervals with vbs script.

just leave your afterburner open, save 4 profiles and program yoru x,y coords with vbs

Well they are 100% liable for paying everyone back, if they come back and do not, anyone going back to mine with them is a damn fool.
