I have a faucet that will be online later today ... It will only give out small amounts of SDC but is a starter for ten.
The idea of having a fund and paying for contributions towards the project is good idea.

EDIT :

Give it a test and the donation address is in in the top menu.

dunno,  guessing like 50? (just added the outputs like an idiot so im guessing its wrong)

edit: how many did u in fact send?

p.s. if i guess right do i get to have dinner with you and Ryno?

My first guess is: 20
Second guess: 10
 Wink

Actual amount was 24 .... our dinner date if off for the moment Wink
Point made though, it is almost impossible to prove what the transact amount was.

Hopefully we will have some respected people review the code.  There are still some attack vectors if you don't take precautions with your amounts and timing.  For example, you transfer 27.75664321 SDC to Shadow. Then 5 minutes later u turn the exact same amount less the fee back to SDC, its going to be pretty obvious.

It is not quite as simple as that ....
Look here : http://shadowtn.blockexplorer.cc/tx/47da4aca657ec9fe4ab7de6fa1e3dd5e935474151bfcc18d39c3b537885f25bd

Now tell me how much Shadow --> Shadow I sent Wink
344  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: When are Sidechains going Live? And the Fork ... ? on: December 29, 2014, 01:32:11 PM
Most people will never understand the protocol. Nor do they need to, in order to use/adopt Bitcoin.
Sidechains are practically necessary to make most other changes.
Sure.

But for now, more people understanding and using bitcoin is more important.

These things need to happen in parallel and Bitcoin core needs to continue to evolve (Sidechains being part of that as it opens many over avenues) ...
We all need to play our part; if you have something to offer then reach out.

Bitcoin is still very young; give it another few years and the landscape will be different.

My wallet won't SYNC any ideas? i have like 12 connections but will not SNYC.

What version? You should be on 1.3.0.6.
yes im on the latest downloaded the bootstrap it was all working until yesterday

I did request a noob friendly maintenance mode that would do some of these things so i assume it will come down in a furtur update.

try this in the Help>Debug Window>Console

Code:
rewindchain <number>

Note: replace "<number>" and put the amount of blocks you want to rewind. I would try going back a 100 blocks to start with. Then restart.

Code:
rewindchain 100

Also try and compare your last block with the explorer to see if the hash is the same ... if its not then you will need to rewind back to where it does match and then restart.

Guys/Gals, can we please please stop getting carried away with this shadow and cryptonote...  Shadow is not based on cryptonote and does not function like cryptonote!

Sorry, but you are incorrect. It is using the exact same techniques of one time ring signatures (intractability) and stealth addresses (unlinkability). The code may be brand new but the cryptography techniques and math behind the one time ring signatures are the same (which include the zero knowledge proof) and were invented by cryptonote.

I could go and rewrite the code to do this stuff yet again (in fact I have done so for my own experimental purposes) but I wouldn't claim it to be anything other than a reimplementation of cryptonote. Someone else on the Monero project did it in python, and called it mininero.

If anyone is claiming otherwise they are either confused or trying to scam you (I don't suggest the latter necessarily, just pointing out the possibilities).

Firstly, my post on this thread was to clear the confusion amongst those who do not fully understand ShadowSend i.e. "ShadowCash a CryptoNote based currency" etc.. It is quite obvious this is coming from this thread and all the talk of CryptoNote and Shadow

Secondly, I am sorry but you are wrong. I very carefully choose my words and repeat ...

Guys/Gals, can we please please stop getting carried away with this shadow and cryptonote...  Shadow is not based on cryptonote and does not function like cryptonote!

Thanks

So lets address my two points

1. Shadow is not based on CryptoNote
Shadow is as much based on CryptoNote as CryptoNote is based on Bitcoin by your analogy. Surely because CryptoNote has a blockchain and uses PoW the CrytoNote developers based their entire technology on Bitcoin? That sounds as absurd as your statement saying Shadow is based on CryptoNote.

Yes there has been inspiration, just like the CrytoNote developers where inspired by Satoshis work; However Shadow is *NOT* based on CryptoNote. If it was (and I am sure it would have been much easier for the team) they would have just called this "ShadowSend a CryotoNote implementation on Bitcoin codebase".
There is in total 9 white papers referenced in the ShadowSend whitepaper. Today ring sigs are used and tomorrow it will be something entirely different as technology matures.

2. Shadow does not function like CrytoNote
This is the easiest to address, just because ShadowSend uses Stealth Addresses + Ring Sigs does not mean it functions like CryptoNote ...
For starters in Shadow you can move from SDC to SDT which uses a technique of minting similar to ZeroCoin. Shadow keyimages are reusable whereas in CryptoNote they are one-time if I recall correctly. The list is endless of how Shadow differs from CryptoNote.

ShadowSend is a unique implementation and should and will hold its own against the likes of CrytoNote/ZeroCash etc.

Lastly and most importantly coming back to the reason I originally posted; I really could care less about you did this first and you copied my style of x ... What is important to me is that those that are reading this thread over the past several dozen pages are getting confused with all this referencing of CryptoNote and Shadow hence why we are seeing confusing and misleading (I am not pointing fingers) statements.

All I am asking for is lets keep this sensible until we have clear hard facts and those far more intelligent that I have reviewed the full implementation. I know the team are working on some material to help understand this better.

Lastly Lastly, we are all here for the same purpose (I hope) .. lets support one another!
P.S. I am on the road so mind any typos/grammar!
P.S. This is my opinion and not that of the brains behind ShadowSend and I am sure they will chime their two shadowshi's worth.

I'm now able to compile the latest master branch with version 1.3.0.7.

Glad it all worked out Cheesy

So... this isn't the Darkcoin thread why's everyone talking about it?

Back to SDC.

QT does not compile whatsoever on Linux. I've switched branches from master to anon --both don't compile-- I've checked out tags, yet everything is a no go. I can however compile the daemon just fine.

Any advice?

Here's my output just from doing only qmake:
Note: Same on both master branch & anon branch.

Quote from: bash
WARNING: Failure to find: src/qt/shadowgui.cpp
WARNING: Failure to find: src/qt/shadow.cpp
WARNING: Failure to find: src/qt/shadowbridge.cpp

WARNING: Failure to find: src/qt/shadowbridge.h
WARNING: Failure to find: shadow.qrc
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/bin/rcc: File does not exist 'shadow.qrc'

Hmm, I compiled QT from source on linux this morning without any issues.
IIRC you need QT5 and not QT4

OK. Thanks for the answer. That clarifies it further more, but due to the same size conversion, the transaction can't be still traced ? Or because the output and input values are obfuscated that means the conversion size is obfuscated too...or not ?
There is no requirement to covert the same size i.e. you receive 100 Shadow .. you can then send them in any size as Shadow (5,10,20 etc) or convert them in any size as SDC (e.g. 14.1 SDC).

Somewhere in the disclaimer says something like this ; "you have to find tokens of the same size in the chain"

This is automated by the client ... as more Shadow tokens are created this will become even better than what it is right now.
Great way to see this is the "Chain Data" tab in the Wallet

The mined amounts are considerably larger, and I assume that is due to the large Shadow transfer fee being processed in the blocks and distributed to the stakers. Nice touch, that will help distribute the coin a bit.

PM me a TX so I can double check it but yes it would seem if you are lucky enough to mine a block which has a Shadow TX then the fee will be collected by you. (Shadow fee is 100x normal fee)

One thing that isn't clear to me- the wallet doesn't seem to be telling me how much of my wallet balance is Shadow and how much is SDC.

You should see a Shadow balance too (both GUI and daemon)

The spend code mentioned in the quote you used is what we are worried about

The spend code has been on github for over two hours for the eagle eyed!

I am confused.  Is the present ShadowCash release opensource, or not?

We've committed the verification code for exchanges: https://github.com/SDCDev/shadowcoin/tree/anon
Its enough to build the daemon, and it will be able to accept and verify anonymous transcations.

We've left the spend code out for now, as we wan't to give investors a chance to have something unique.

<snip>
Most of the checks and validations are done in main.cpp (https://github.com/SDCDev/shadowcoin/blob/anon/src/main.cpp) and ringsig.cpp (https://github.com/SDCDev/shadowcoin/blob/anon/src/ringsig.cpp)

We committed the verification code, so that people can go through it Smiley

Thanks for the post, was good to see that the block chain aspect of bitcoin is getting more and more recognition for what it can bring to the market.

It's good to see more crowdfund btc coming in to support this ambitious project.

Really hoping at least 100 btc is raised and that it's extended a second time by an extra week (fingers crossed).

I do understand all the guys that bought in early and want to keep a larger stake by cutting off before other people come in... but surely it's better to have more people invested with a bigger community to create activity (albeit not too many from the start (muahaha)) and at the same time ensuring that the dev has enough funds to keep focused on his work.

What's one more week for a more workable capital?

Ambitious project like this needs funding else it will run out of $$$ ... maybe dev should escrow the remaining XAI left for future rounds of funding if needed in future (rather than burn) if we cannot hit 200+ BTC?

hi i want to store my 5000 drk in a paper wallet like bitcoin, is that possible?

Help > Debug window > Console - in text entry box at bottom type:
walletpassphrase yourpassphrase 60

...then...

dumpprivkey darkcoinaddress

It will output a long string. Copy it and keep that string safe, your paper wallet is whatever you write it on.

Note that your wallet will likely contain many Darkcoin addresses, you can move everything into one address first then dumpprivkey for that one address.

This is a such a awful recommendation ... to create a paper wallet via the above method defeats the whole purpose.
