341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: June 06, 2014, 03:04:49 PM
Anybody using offspring?  It's seems offspring can only recognize the old numerical address and can't send nxt to the newer apha-numerical address.  Anybody have this issue or this only happening to me?

https://nxtforum.org/alternative-clients/(windows-mac-linux)-open-source-cross-platform-offspring-237/msg37936/#msg37936

This is planned for the next Offspring release. Which is planned as soon as the next mayor NXT release is ready (current NXT version is 1.1.4)
@Daedelus thanks for alerting me!

OFFSPRING 0.4.1

Encrypted Messaging Release

With Groupchat ?!

Account number in image 13630109015708150669

So slick ..

Look around you remember this moment. This is the moment we have all been waiting for. Here is a NXT client that supports the long promised killer NXT feature.

Blockchain based Secure Encrypted Messaging.  Cool

Built on-top of the NXT Cryptography we all love and trust you can now have completely secure decentralized conversations with anyone in the world.

And the best of all? Your account number is your address and your NXT secret phrase your Private Key.

But the fun does not stop there. Instead of simple on-off messages, Offspring 0.4.1 supports message threading. You can reply to other messages and they will show up in Offspring like a thread/tree it's a bit like Reddit.

But Reddit is for group chat and Offspring is one-on-one I hear you say.

WRONG!! Offspring supports group chat to! You can pick any NXT account and without requiring the secret phrase add it to Offspring as a read only account (possible since Offspring 0.2). Then you can simply send an un-encrypted message (right click that account "Send Plain Message") to that account and anyone in the world can see and reply to it.

How's that for calling out the scammers.  Shocked You can use their account number as the central account for your group chat. And they can do nothing about it (don't you love transparency ).

Some Minor Changes

  • All dates are displayed in 24 Hour notation.
  • Added the option (right click) to blacklist or un-blacklist any peer you are connected to.
  • And even send that peer a message (if that peer uses a Hallmark).
  • Build on NXT 0.8.12

Other Cool Features

Real Time Block Explorer
Click any account/transaction/block

Peer Explorer
See what peers you are connected to. Blacklist/Unblacklist peers and even send them an (Encrypted) message

Awsome Asset Exchange
Trade like a pro with real time charts.

Installation

Installation is easy. Download, unzip and double click the offspring executable.
If you're upgrading (have Offspring 0.4.1) do the same as installation, Offspring will pick up your existing blockchain and encrypted wallet files.

350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 27, 2014, 01:50:05 AM
I want to point out that since Offspring embeds NXT and has direct access to the database in the latest 0.4.0 release it contains a complete blockexplorer.

From the main menu (click "Block Explorer") you can enter and look up any account, transaction or block.

For each account you can see all transactions, aliases, blocks forged and assets. For each transaction you can see the sender, receiver, block and the JSON text. A Block windows contain a list of transactions, the JSON text and the generator account.

All these things (ID's) can be clicked (with your mouse) and opens the clicked transaction, block, account in a (the same) window to further explore.

There also is a list of recent blocks and a list of recent transactions (in the advanced section beneath the live active peer data), those lists are endless you can click 'next' on those tables until the genesis block. Again each transaction, sender, receiver or block can be clicked and they will open in their own window.

As I said on https://nxtforum.org/alternative-clients/(windows-mac-linux)-open-source-cross-platform-offspring-237/ ..

OFFSPRING IS MOUSE FRIENDLY

Click Click Click

Everything is CLICKABLE. Click any account number, transaction id, block id etc..

Watch out for RSI. Cause it's addictive

Wink

But all kidding aside, Offspring is open source and we welcome anyone to come and join the development.

.. (runs on Mac OSX, Linux and Windows)

..Edit..

Forgot to mention that for each transaction in any of the lists it shows if it's a payment, alias, bid/ask order, issue asset.. Etc.. that saves at least some clicks on non interesting transactions (because my god almost 100000 transactions are a lot  Shocked)

OFFSPRING IS OPEN SOURCE

Attention all developers!
Offspring is open source and we wan't you to join us.

Come checkout the source code and screenshots on our github page.

Offspring is a full featured NXT desktop client. Offspring is written in Java and built on the Eclipse 4 platform. Offspring is crossplatform and runs on Windows, Mac and Linux (GTK). We welcome all developers to come and join in the development of Offspring.

Offspring allows you to run your own NXT node and have your own copy of the blockchain. By running Offspring you are actively supporting and strengthening the NXT network. Accounts opened in Offspring are forging by default and display how long until you get to forge the next block.

Block Explorer

Lookup any account, transaction or block. See what transactions are in a block and who send them. All accounts, transactions and blocks are clickable in Offspring. You can easily track any transaction with a simple click of the mouse.

Asset Exchange

Offspring fully supports the Asset Exchange. Since the Asset Exchange is not yet functional on the main network Offspring allows you to select what network to connect to on startup. Simply check the checkbox on the login dialog that asks if you want to connect to the test net. If you do go on the test net Offspring automatically switches to your test wallet so your real accounts are not exposed to the test net.

Encrypted Wallet

Offspring stores your NXT keys in an encrypted wallet on your computer. To offer even better security users can select what file Offspring should read your keys from. You can name your wallet file any way you and make it even harder for anyone to find your wallet on your computer.

Register NXT Aliases

Easily register or update your aliases. Together with your account we show you all your aliases. It gets even better through the block explorer you can view any accounts aliases. Want to register a new alias? Since Offspring uses the NXT Java API you have instant feedback if an alias is free or not and what it's pointing to.

Keep Track Of Transactions

You can add as many accounts as you like and easily manage them. Send NXT, receive NXT, send Assets etc.. You can also add accounts you don't own. Know of some project or special account you want to keep an eye on, then easily add that account to your list of accounts and Offspring will even store that account in your wallet.

Watch NXT Go To The MOON

Offspring integrates with http://dgex.com where it shows the entire order book of DGEX and the current price of NXT. Offspring also shows your NXT balance as Bitcoins and even in Euros.

Download Offspring Today

What are you waiting for? Come and try Offspring today. Installation is easy. Simply download, unzip and double click the executable (offspring.exe on Windows) and you are good to go.

What is the logic behind allowing multiple assets with the same name?
How are client developers supposed to deal with this?
Assets have a unique identifying ID. There's really not much reason to restrict to unique names. I have proposed a way to for asset issuers to assign themselves company names, attach images, etc.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1FsyumJLmQ9ckLNkHlmW1oPRGOoK3oAg_pVjFz3s0fNw/edit#slide=id.g1ce2334a0_00
With tags and sorting, I think the AE will be rather organized.
Pandaisftw

Wow, you have put a lot of work into that. Is there any consensus on this is this being implemented? I was thinking of a similar scheme which (obviously) I think is better Wink Is this being implemented in the reference client?

THIS IS A DISASTER.
WE COULD HAVE AVOIDED THIS DISASTER  IF WE HAD IMPLEMENTED INTEGRATED AUTOMATIC STRONG PASSWORD GENERATION IN ALL CLIENTS A MONTH AGO.
ARE WE IN AGREEMENT TO IMPLEMENT IT ACROSS THE BOARD NOW?

This was available in Offspring from day 1
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 10:24:14 PM
We don't need "prompts". Some people will never use strong passwords. And some will not even understand why the password is weak. We need a client that creates password for the user by default. Don't give user easy option to make their own password or you will continue to see this problem every month.

Yet you still want to allow people to enter an existing passphrase when adding an account.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 12:49:49 PM
Sure, but I think it's all unnecessary.  Why not just call SecureRandom 12 times to pick 12 random numbers (range  0 to 1625 ). You can use that to choose 12 random words from array. That will be pretty simple and no security/implementation complications.  The words would be chosen randomly and entropy would be 128-bit.

Thats how I did it already. Your approach intrigues me because I don't know how to do that, I dont like that  Angry

Microsoft patent actually describes  how to represent any number as words (1626)
https://www.google.com/patents/US5892470

Quote
In this example, the number is 3,481,269,321. The table of words contains 1626 words, which are indexed from 0 to 1625. To encode this number, the ME system divides the number by the radix, 1626, ... encoding "DRUM ART BUS," which has indices 1316, 1186, and 69, respectively, represents the number that is the result of 1316 * 1626.sup.2 +1186 * 1626.sup.1 +69 * 1626.sup.0.

Cool thanks for looking that up. I share your view that the SecureRandom approach is simpler.
For anyone wondering here seems to be a java implementation https://code.google.com/p/bitcoinj/source/browse/core/src/main/java/com/google/bitcoin/crypto/MnemonicCode.java

think of  1626 words as numbers (base 1626)

1. word1
2. word2
3. word3
.
.
.
1626 word1626

so number 1627 would be equal to word1626word1
You can generate a 128-bit number (totally secure using secure random) and then convert it into words
I don't see how there can be any flaw in that implementation, as the original 128-bit was generated with secure random and it is only represented as words
This would be same as representing a binary number as hex or decimal.
The password made with that implementation can't be any weaker than 128-bit just as converting decimal number to hex doesn't make it weaker

Just out of curiosity. Could you give a brief example, I don't immediately see how to implement this.
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 11:17:35 AM
the problem might just be a very theoretical one.

Maybe. But you proved your point. Thanks.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 10:55:36 AM
What does your implementation of words.getDiceWd look like?

It picks directly from an array of words. Why?

How do you map the integer type parameter down to the range of items in the dictionary?

int & 0X1fff returns a value between 0 (inclusive) and 8191 (inclusive)

This is like a modulo operation right? Like "(int mod 8192)". If so, it puts a (very) slight preference on the first entries in the dictionary.

I don't have a cryptographic background, but it seems like one of these tiny things cryptographic people look for. Or it's just me being paranoid..

I have not heard that before, please do point at any references if you know of any. If it is true it should not be used, you are right.
In that case rand.nextInt(ARRAY.length) would be the safer bet.
