341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: August 27, 2014, 07:42:44 AM
I got my 12 word password and wrote it down. due to the counterparty protocol logging me out against my will, I have been required to re-enter this password twice. It can only be done by clicking the mouse on the right letters for each word, twelve fucking times, which takes like 3 fucking minutes

I don't understand this part. You can type the passphrase using your keyboard, and you could even theoretically copy paste it if you're not that concerned with security. Additionally, there is a feature in the settings to set up a quick access URL which will take you directly to your wallet. If you can only enter it using the on-screen keyboard, there is probably something wrong with your browser.

Next: Holy fuck this is annoying...counterparty software require me to stay logged in for x amount of time, but then I automatically get logged out. This is likely the fault of my browser of security features, but good luck explaining hat o the worlds dumbed person.

I have not seen any reports of this happening. I'm sure the devs will look into it, but you must surely understand that it's not an end of the world scenario that affects every single user just because one individual is being logged out. Please issue a support ticket in Counterwallet if you haven't already.

NOW: I purchased x amount of skull coin for x amount of btc. All of a sudden, I find out the purchase did not go through, whatever the fuck that means, because I was automatically got fucked out of my counterparty wallet and had to log back in, but now some btc is missing. I started with .047, now my wallet is reporting .041 and I have no other assets to account of it...

Did you check your open orders? Maybe part of your order was matched. Have you checked whether money was transferred using block explorers Blockscan.com and Blockchain.info? For future reference, it's easier and less stressful to trade using XCP.

I do not mean to fud, I am just pissed that I am having to deal with a bunch of stupid shit (compared to a standard qt wallet or CLI cryponote wallet) and I am not by any means crypto illiterate. Can someone explain to me wtf is going on here, and how I can buy this stupid shitcoin skull coin before time runs out?

If you are relatively crypto literate, you could always use Counterpartyd (CLI), which is extremely reliable.

Can I accept SJCX using counterwallet?\

  ~~MZ~~

Yes, and any BTC address of which you have the private key (even offline wallets). You can also buy and sell SJCX on the Counterparty decentralized exchange using Counterwallet itself.

It looks like Bittrex(biggest altcoin exchange?) didn't add any Counterparty coins..  do you plan to fix that ?

Its possible to email support@bittrex.com and submit a coin for review. For 3 BTC they can include a coin 100%, and do additional marketing apparently. I've sent them a message, and they want the following details:

Coin Name: Counterparty
Coin trading symbol: XCP
Launch Date: January 2014
Github Link: https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/
Exchanges you are currently on: Decentralized exchange, Poloniex, BTER, Melotic, 51BTC
Official blockchain explorer: http://blockscan.com/
What is your TxFee for a transaction: Bitcoin transaction fees
A png image for your coin with a transparent background: http://blockscan.com/images/xcplogo.png

Also forwarded it to TrustIndex@coinssource.com, which does trust reviews of coins. Bittrex states that it is important whether a coin is listed on coinssource, or audited by respected community members. Therefore its great to mention the Peter Todd and Sergio Lerner audits.

Guys is there anyway to change the password for my counterwallet?

Do you mean the passphrase? Unfortunately no, because your addresses are generated directly from your passphrase. This means that you will have to make a new Counterwallet and transfer your funds.

The password for a url can be changed in Counterwallet settings, by clicking the gear at the top right.
345  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: !!! Don't invest in cloud mining at www.timetobit.com - SCAMMERS !!! on: August 16, 2014, 12:34:00 PM
Cloud mining is not a logical business model in general. You are paying money to receive money over time. If they make a profit, you don't. If you make a profit, they don't. It's better to just buy Bitcoins directly and hold them.

I think "Counterparty" is much cooler sounding, though. Smiley

Agreed, especially since it's rather clever: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterparty
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is CounterParty (XCP) severely undervalued? on: August 12, 2014, 02:35:17 PM
Nice thread, I have been wondering about Counterparty myself for quite some time.

Isn't there some sort of risk involved with the BTC devs not wanting to "play nice" with Counterparty? I remember reading something about a limitation put on the amount of data CP could store.

Counterparty has many ways to store the data, and there is no risk involved in this case whatsoever. It's just that the methods required to store the data will have to become more convoluted...

I think it has promise because its built for the long term. Just look at the way it was launched.  Shocked

348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: August 11, 2014, 03:28:03 PM
...I couldn't help but wonder the trading fees for orders involving XCP are listed in the buy/sell screens as .0002 BTC when the final fee comes out to .000356 BTC.

Update: after the BTC balance for the account conducting the trades had settled, the averaged fee was .000317 BTC... somehow I got back an additional .000039 BTC credit.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing the extra amount in the fee is the unspent multisig output (a method of storing XCP data), which can be redeemed here: http://api.bitwatch.co/redeem (this functionality will soon be added to Counterwallet).

As for why you got an additional BTC credit, I'm not sure. Could you provide your BTC/XCP address or history? It may be a display bug in the new Counterwallet pre-release, while the actual balance may be accurate.

I suggest you look at your trades/credits and debits in http://blockscan.com, and if it still seems fishy, contact the developers. Smiley

2) Dezentralisiertes Wetten
http://betxcp.com/
http://xbet.io/
https://xcpfeeds.info/

3) 100% P2P Wetten
und mehr. Alles ohne irgendwelche vermittler, bzw mittelmaenner.

Finally, a German news article about peer-to-peer finance (mentions Counterparty):

"Bitcoin: US-Onlinehändler Overstock erwägt Kryptoaktien"

This page is also not rendering for me with Chrome or Safari:

https://www.counterparty.co/xcp/

...but with IE7 it looks PERFECT

Works on Firefox too. I think it should distinguish between centralized exchanges and the Counterwallet decentralized exchange. It would emphasize just how important a decentralized exchange really is.

This fee exploit is bad news. Better listen to Peter...

Announcement: Peter Todd has begun his security audit on the Counterparty protocol and reference client.

This is amazing. Peter Todd has some intense software security knowledge. And "much of his research covers Proof of Publication and Embedded Consensus systems, both highly relevant to Counterparty technology." (https://www.counterparty.co/team/)

Will the protocol have a built in random number generator? It would also be possible to play rock paper scissors against the protocol itself...

Some crazy features coming soon....  Wink

Care to elaborate?  Grin

Well depending on community support, Counterparty could be enhanced to be more suitable for decentralized autonomous organizations. Features such as proof-of-stake voting for example (which the devs suggested earlier in the thread.)

I also had an idea of escrowing funds, and then the asset holders have to vote on which one of them receives them.

Something else that seemed interesting to me was this: https://github.com/NotaryChains/NotaryChainDocs/blob/master/whitepaper.md (but I'm not sure about the theory behind either..)

So if you have possible ideas for what proof-of-stake voting could be used for, or other features with realistic usecases, then please let us know! You have the chance to shape the future of cryptocurrencies here.

I think counterparty desperately needs a software/downloadable wallet that anyone can use. Having to use the webwallet is something I hate. and feels alot less secure.

358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SWARM] Swarm - Cryptoequity Crowdfunding - Official Thread on: July 04, 2014, 04:08:16 PM
NOTE: People who are not interested in the SWARM itself should still remember that SWARM is essentially campaigning for Bitcoin financial freedoms. So if that is something you support, then looking into Swarm may not be such a bad idea anyway.

Hi,
Looked at your video the trade time was measured by blocks !
Erm simplify > can you not use a clock / 24hrs ect  Smiley

No.  There is no bitcoin clock, only the bitcoin blockchain which has a variance that ranges from seconds between blocks to over an hour.   Lacking a clock, you have to count blocks.  It's not exact, but it's real and its decentralized.

Maybe something like "estimated time" may be possible, at least in days.. But I'm not even sure how accurate that would be.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: July 02, 2014, 07:33:47 AM
We are considering adding proof-of-stake voting to Counterparty. At a high level, how we see this working is where an issuer/owner of a given token could create a protocol-level 'referendum' event, which would most likely reference an external URL  (and could include a hash of that URL's content, to ensure consistency). The URL would point to a .json file with the referendum text, the voting end date, etc, as well as the possible choices (similar to how we do today with extended asset and feed info). Holders of the coin, via Counterwallet or similar, would then be able to vote on the referendum, and their vote would count in proportion to the amount of coin they hold out of the total amount created (or, in circulation). As these votes are done on-blockchain, they could then be easily tallied up, and there would be a clear audit trail for verifiability.

I'm thinking this feature would open Counterparty up to all sorts of interesting political applications, as well as faciliate organizational governance for companies that do crowdfunding on the platform.

Thoughts? If we can see enough interest in this feature, we can add it.

Yes, we need this. This is an important feature for peer-to-peer organizations, as well as multi-sig.
