What happened to Mohit Sharma today? He is well regarded as a depth over specialist, but today he returned figures of 4-0-73-0. And that was the single-most reason why Gujarat lost the match. Towards the end Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs simply butchered him. However Gujarat batsmen almost won the match for their team. Till the moment David Miller was there, still there was hope for Gujarat Titans. However, once he got out it was all over for them. Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore tried hard, but in vain.

I also think that RR has a good chance to secure another 2 points but the odds are not good at all, so waiting for the right time to bet some lunch money.

The first over of the inning and Boult claiming a wicket is an old and painful story for many, especially Indians lol. In the upcoming T-20, this guy would repeat the same.

Mumbai Indians are going to lose, and it is not going to surprise anyone. Ever since Hard dick Pandya was made the captain, they have been going on a downhill journey. BTW, they have some of the best T20 players in the world - Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Jasprit Bumrah.etc. If they are unable to win despite having such a team, then I don't know what to say. Fortunately for them, it is unlikely that they will finish at the rock bottom. That position is likely to go to another franchise - Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier is scheduled to start this week. Two of the top teams will qualify for the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup (to be held in Bangladesh). There are a total of 10 teams participating in the qualifier tournament, including Ireland, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. And in all probability two out of these teams will qualify for the main tournament. Apart from these three teams, others with a good chance are Scotland, Netherlands and Thailand. The tournament is being hosted by United Arab Emirates, so they also obviously have an advantage.

New Zealand has no answer to the Pakistani pace battery, as they got bowled out for just 90 runs. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Amir were all unplayable at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The Kiwis were forced to open with Tim Seifert and Tim Robinson, with Dean Foxcroft at one down. Rachin Ravindra is busy playing IPL, while Devon Conway is injured. Kane Williamson would have been no.3, but he is also busy with the IPL.

They'll do exactly the opposite for obvious reasons.

Even Pujara and Rahane are not announcing their retirement, despite knowing that their time is over and they generally have virtually no brand value. So in this regard, fans shouldn't expect much from established players like Rohit or Kohli.

As long as money is involved, no one wants to retire from international cricket. Take the example of Suresh Raina. Once he retired from international cricket, his franchise also disowned him and his career ended all of a sudden. In case of Mahendra Singh Dhoni also, endorsements and advertising revenue has sharply gone down ever since he stopped playing international cricket. I am not expecting players such as Kohli and Rohit to retire from international cricket, before they get into their 40s.
347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: April 19, 2024, 05:24:07 PM
There is some controversy surrounding Rohit Sharma's recent statement that he is looking forward to play in the ODI World Cup of 2027. He is about to turn 37 this month and by the time of next world cup he will be 40 years old. I am not sure whether the BCCI will be very happy with Rohit playing in ODI format despite his age.

https://www.indiatvnews.com/sports/cricket/india-tv-poll-result-should-rohit-sharma-play-the-icc-2027-cricket-world-cup-as-hinted-by-him-2024-04-18-926855

IMO, India should go with a younger team rather then depending too much on players such as Kolhi, Rohit and Shami. These players failed to win the ODI World Cup even once, so what is the point in persisting with them?
348  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 19, 2024, 05:14:31 PM
When the World Test Championship starts most of the teams are busy with the Test series and when the ODI World Cup starts all the teams are busy with the ODI series and before the T20 World Cup every team is definitely busy with the T20 series. Although T20 World Cup is ahead and every team is more busy with T20 series, but they will not completely forget the Test game. Of course, if they play five T20 series, they must play one Test series. The full series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has consisted of three T20I, three ODIs and two Test matches.

The full series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is over but both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will focus more on the T20 series. As this year's T20 World Cup will be held with almost double the number of teams, this World Cup will surely be the center of attraction.

I can agree with you on the ODI and T20 World Cups. Most of the teams focus on respective formats when these tournaments are near. But I don't agree on the World Test Championship. It is spread out across three years and none of the teams outside the pig-4 take it seriously. Test format is a costly affair for the full member nations. It doesn't bring any revenue, and it actually impacts the revenue earning capability by eating up the calendar and getting players injured with the heavy workload.

The pitch was slow than expected and CSK played too slow in their middle overs but in the death overs they made up for that.

Jaddu, Moeen played decent and Dhoni gave the final push that needed. In the chase LSG is cruising at the moment but if they manage to get couple of wickets even now they can defend well since LSG is not known for chasing their targets and their batters are not in great form.

Chennai Super Kings stepped up scoring from 17th over onwards, but they are at least 15 runs short. Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit 28 from 9 balls. And this is why I wanted him to bat ahead of Moeen Ali. The latter was not that bad, as he ended up with a strike rate of 150. But he wasted a lot of balls early on. And this 15 missing runs may prove to be the difference in this match. And I am still perplexed on why CSK is not using Matheesha Pathirana right now. He is a wicket taker and they need to bring him without any delay.
350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 19, 2024, 04:54:15 PM
Lucknow Super Giants are cruising towards an easy win here. They are 102/0 after 11 overs. For Chennai Super Kings, star performers from the previous two games (Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana) have bowled only one over. This is something I don't understand regarding CSK. First of all, during batting they asked MSD to bat at no.8. And now they are under-utilizing their two best bowlers. They may come in picture during the end overs, but by then the match will be all but over.
351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Women's Cricket Prediction & Discussion - T20 & ODI on: April 19, 2024, 03:29:06 PM
I was actually quite surprised with the performance from the Lankan women yesterday. South Africa set a mundane target of 302, but Lankan women chased down that with more than 5 overs to spare. And we all know that South Africa has one of the most lethal bowling combinations in women's cricket, with Ayabonga Khaka, Marizanne Kapp and Masabata Klaas in their squad. Chamari Athapaththu was unbelievable and she just missed double century by 5 runs. And Nilakshika Silva also provided excellent support.
352  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL Cricket on: April 19, 2024, 03:20:06 PM
I don't understand what does Chennai achieve by asking Mahendra Singh Dhoni to bat at no.8. He should bat at least at no.6 or no.7. Now Moeen Ali has come to the crease and he has so far scored 7 runs from 10 balls. And we are into the 16th over with CSK struggling at 105/5. They need to get to a minimum of 180, and this is when Moeen is batting like a tortoise. Strategic mistakes are going to be very costly for Chennai. They are currently at the 3rd position in points table, but it looks shaky.

Feels bad for Nepal. This always happen with them. They won all the matches in the group phase, but then lost the semi-finals to United Arab Emirates. And this is a very costly miss. A win would have guaranteed a spot in Asia Cup 2025, and also additional funds from the ACC (Asian Cricket Council). Now they can only blame themselves. Today the batting display from Nepal was pathetic. Apart from Sundeep Jora, all the other top and middle order batsmen got out for single digits.

Predictions for match no. 34 (Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants) anyone? As of now, CSK are lagging along at 87/4 from 11 overs. They need to score at least 100-110 runs in the next 9 overs. Ravindra Jadeja is still out there, but he has been going through a lean patch right now. Moeen Ali will come out to bat, but I would have rather preferred Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Lucknow Super Giants bowlers have been good so far, especially Mohsin Khan and Krunal Pandya.

After a quick burst, Lucknow's blue-eyed boy Mayank Yadav seems to miss all the action. Not sure if he's going to last for long with these sorts of injuries.

I was quite hopeful about Mayank. He had the rare combination of accuracy and raw pace. But if he can't keep himself away from injuries, then he will end up like Kamlesh Nagarkoti (he was unsold during the 2024 auction). If you remember, Nagarkoti was the star of U-19 World Cup in 2018. He played a dozen or so IPL matches for KKR and DC in the next 2-3 years, but now his career seems to have ended as a result of back stress fractures. I don't want the same thing to happen with Mayank.

Great to see the fightback from Chennai Super Kings, as Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja are now stabilizing the innings and scoring runs at brisk rate. The pacers did well for Lucknow Super Giants initially (Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur and Matt Henry) and they picked up two important wickets (that of Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad). But once the spinners were introduced, life became easier for the Chennai batsmen. A score of 180-200 looks possible, and that should be enough for a win.

Whaaatt a matchhhh!  I didn't think this match would be so exciting till the end. We enjoyed a great match. Punjab's batting was strange

By looking at the first 5 overs of Punjab, it seemed that the Punjab team was going to lose the match for sure. In 6 overs of the power play, Punjab collected 40 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. However, the match came under Punjab's control due to Shahank and Ashutosh Sharma's excellent batting. Punjab needed just 28 runs to win in the last 4 overs. Even then Punjab team could not win the match. Punjab lost by 9 runs today.

Tremendous fightback from Punjab, given the fact that they were 77/6 when Jitesh Sharma got out. But things changed when Ashutosh Sharma came to the crease and he got support from Harpreet Brar at the other end. Unfortunately for Punjab Kings, both Ashutosh Sharma and Harpreet Brar got out in short intervals. And then it was left to the tailenders to manage the remaining runs, which they failed to do. Jasprit Bumrah's 18th over as well as Gerald Coetzee's 19th were therefore extremely crucial. Had Hardick asked Akash Madhwal to bowl either of these overs, then the outcome could have been different.

Never expected the Pakistani women to go down so meekly. Once the West Indies Women setup a massive total of 269/8, it was all over. In women's cricket, anything above 250 in an ODI match is a winning total. Hayley Matthews made 140 and smashed the Pakistani bowlers all around the park. Diana Baig's lack of form continues as she leaked runs early on. Her new ball partner Sadia Iqbal did a decent job and returned figures of 10-1-38-2. Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu did decent job, but in the end as a team Pakistan failed to contain West Indian batters.

Mumbai wins, and they will move up the points table. It was nail-bitter in the end, but Rabada got run-out trying for a second run that was never there. Mumbai Indians are now at the 7th place in points table, just behind Delhi Capitals. Punjab Kings on the other hand are at 9th place now, and only the eternal losers (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) are below them as far as points are concerned. Half of the matches are over by now, and Mumbai still has a fair chance to enter the playoff phase this season.
360  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL Cricket on: April 18, 2024, 06:07:11 PM
With one over remaining, Punjab needs another 12 to win. But the problem is that they have only one wicket remaining, and two tailend batsmen are at the crease (Kagiso Rabada and Harshal Patel). The big question for Mumbai is about who will bowl the last over. Almost everyone among their bowlers have finished their quota, so the skipper will turn to Akash Madhwal. Remember that this guy has been expensive today, and his figures at this point are 3-0-44-1. And he starts off with a wide, and the equation becomes 11 runs from 6 balls. Fingers crossed!
