Right from the Mayo Clinics website hoss.

"Even after a lot of research, type 1 diabetes has no cure."

bitcoin cant fix the pharma maybe they can only fix it with the data that can be stored through blockchain, but I hear that some of cryptocurrency work with the folidng@home to cure cancer although the folding@home itself although "Folding@home does not endorse any cryptocurrencies at this time but we are happy to engage with participants with a wide variety of motivations. Whether you’re interested in curing diseases, advancing our understanding of how the world works, seeing who can build the fastest computer, or earning cryptocurrency. "
as you can see at here https://foldingathome.org/2019/01/14/foldinghome-policy-on-cryptocurrencies/?lng=en-US

BANANO is one of crypto that work with folding@home https://cryptomining-blog.com/11570-earn-banano-ban-while-foldinghome-to-help-coronavirus-covid-19-fight/
Curecoin and so on and I hope crypto that helps real word pharma keep pop-up

Man, I was messing with folding at home like 20 years ago. I ran it on my Beowulf cluster machine. Run around after work bootp'n work PC to creat a bigger one.

I'll go check that out. Thanks for the old school memories, back when tech was exciting

I highly doubt a lone doctor came up with a stem cell based cure, sounds like click bait material. Doctors aren't research scientist. That would be like my mechanic building a tesla in his garage.

Bitcoin also failed to remove the Bermuda grass from my yard and solve middle east peace.

I'm sorry about you GF struggles. That sucks. Pharma is only a part. New things need to go through a long, expensive approval process by the FDA.

Example:  Covid was fast tracked past the FDA basically, right side of my face has had bells palsy for months. Insurance company reports a 40% increase in deaths amongst healthy people.

344  Economy / Economics / Re: Capitalizing on the strong US dollar? on: July 15, 2022, 02:38:09 AM
When you are in a "bitcoin"talk forum, I think the correct answer here should be "buy bitcoin" because it would allow you to hedge yourself against dollar very easily. If the price of bitcoin goes up, then if the dollar goes up as well it's double the profit, if the price of bitcoin goes down, but the value of dollar goes up then you are fine, if the dollar price drops but bitcoin price goes up then you are still fine.

The only bad would be price going down and value of dollar going down as well and both happens at the same time. I say you should be focusing a bit more towards how the crypto could help you and get you better and bitcoin is the starting point of that.

Well I'm in the economic area of the board, I think when you talk bitcoin you also have to talk about your overall position. It would be myopic to only look at bitcoin. Sure I have bitcoin but It's part of the overall package.

Part of that package is cash on hand. I want something other than USD that fits in my safe. Other currency is something I never glanced at but with a strong dollar I can make a smartish move. Two birds with one stone. If the euro gets strong again or stays as is, so what. I have value I can get ahold of in a timely fashion.

PS: I added some silver today maybe some more down the road in a few weeks if it's the same ish or lower. See I'm a farmer and bought 500 gallons of diesel when the keystone was shut down. Figure I'd hold onto that until a regime change then burn it.

345  Economy / Economics / Re: Capitalizing on the strong US dollar? on: July 14, 2022, 03:10:32 PM
Thank-you and everyone for the replies, I'm learning and researching.

I do hold bitcoin and DCA into it weekly but I have before and will again give it a haircut when it goes and gets rowdy. Rebalancing my humble portfolio keeps me asleep at night and enjoy a gentleman's "hobby"

I've gone old school lately, what fits in my safe is actually mine. I can put gold, silver and my ledger in the safe. I will probably start with some euro's as liquidity should be easy. Having lived and worked in the silicon valley from . 1997 - 2004 I learned some expensive lessons then and got a refresher recently. Sure my other stuff like my 401k is a different beast.

Like Buffet I stay with what I know and understand when I manage my .0000000001 billion dollar portfolio Smiley

Thanks, keep it coming please

If I get you correctly, you want to buy US dollar and hold it? You can if you just want to hold it for short time period, but for long time period, it is not advisable. But bitcoin has fallen significantly, if you are not spending money for a long time, I will advice you to just hold bitcoin instead. Dollar is a strong currency, but know that its value still decline after long period of time.

346  Economy / Economics / Capitalizing on the strong US dollar? on: July 14, 2022, 02:32:00 AM
I'm completely ignorant on buying currencies as a hedge or a safer place than the US dollar.

With a strong dollar would it be wise to scope a few percentages of like the Swiss Franc?

Just a thought I've never had before.

Thanks

349  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: High altitude mining would it be better or worse for equipment? on: July 13, 2022, 11:30:09 PM
For example, at high altitudes, less effort will be required to cross a distance, which increases the possibility of electrical arcs, and it also affects the electrical insulation properties of the air, which means a significant increase in the internal temperature of these devices, which may mean indirectly reducing their efficiency/work.
This is 1000% false.  Stop talking about subject matters you know nothing about.
The reasoning in the bit about it increasing internal temps is wrong but the increased risk of arcs is 100% correct when you are talking about altitudes over 5000 ft. If you check specs, many time various things like TV's, PSU's and other line powered devices WILL have altitude restrictions. Grant you the 5k limit is very conservative but nonetheless it is fact that as air pressure goes down so does the breakdown voltage which means that greater spacing between PCB traces is required to pass hipot testing. It is not until pressure goes below 0.05mbar (approaching a hard vacuum) that the breakdown voltage of the remaining air starts to rapidly climb again.

Ok within I understand extreme altitudes in the aerospace business. With in context of a 12 volt device and human livable altitudes is not even applicable. I haven't seen an altitude rating on my extension cord at 7200 feet, my dryer didn't arc flash. The insulators on the 13.2 kv powerlines (@9000 ft) are the same ones from sea-level.

Nothing skydiving or in my plane over 15k feet seems to flame out, I guess if you put my 172 into sub orbit it may have a problem or two.

We might as well debate if things work different in the southern hemisphere. It doesn't matter.

I guess he knows something he read, but massively miss applied.

Meh, at sea level 1 atm is 14.7 lbs and at 10,000 feet it's 10.2.. About 69% density at the same temperature.

Factors of temp and humidity play a paramount roll. Moisture conducts about 10 times the rate air does (general terms).

I would be happy with the cool, dry and CLEAN air generally found at altitude.

Sure I compensate when I fly into my South Lake Tahoe place or Scuba dive there, it's a factor for sure. I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axel on it as far as a miner goes.

352  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is the advantages to mine in USA ? on: July 12, 2022, 08:15:24 PM
Interesting thanks. Do you have any website to recommend for searching such facilities?
I always struggle to find online the available power at the facility and often owner are wrong regarding this information.

Many thanks,

Larson311

Well here in NE Oklahoma we have Hydro and wind from the south as well. Where I am at I have 4.3 cents per kwh. That's why we have Google and many other large consumers here. Lots of free commercial space as well.

Northern Data has inked a deal Grand River Damn Authority for 250Mw mining op.
353  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: High altitude mining would it be better or worse for equipment? on: July 12, 2022, 06:04:34 PM
I think the cooler temps would offset any density altitude issues.
354  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Looking for leads on cheap power on: July 08, 2022, 01:40:35 AM
I have 400amps at 480 available at 4.3 cents hydro sourced mostly hydro/wind a bit more but don't know the number. Zero facilities for it, just connex box and hook it up. NE Oklahoma
355  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The risk of NOT actually owning your mining hardware. on: July 01, 2022, 09:59:31 PM
4.3 cents here in Oklahoma primarily wind and hydro.
Is this a private deal with a power plant? I don't think you can get below 5 cents on publicly available tariffs in most states.

It's what i pay right now... there a few dingle berries on the bill but that's it.

357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a Commodity according to SEC- Is this good or bad for Bitcoin? on: June 28, 2022, 04:02:29 PM
Welp, I guess it could be anything to anyone.

US doesn't determine it for everyone, that's the beauty of it.
358  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Considering doing OTC BTC/CASH side hustle? Input? on: June 28, 2022, 02:02:32 AM
I live on a lake near Tulsa and these towns have money around. I want to OTC trade cash/btc btc/cash only face to face. Distance would be a function of amount. I figure I can make a couple of contacts on the web if I need to replenish. Not doing anything shady just don't want the banks and exchanges in my business, kinda the point behind bitcoin.
Be careful there, you wouldn't be the first to be prosecuted for running an unlicensed money exchange service.

That's what I'm concerned with, I'm not trying to be illegal or shady.  I just don't know what I don't know. In my minds eye it's like buy 100oz silver off my neighbor over spot. Who cares? Well maybe someone does. Is BTC considered "money" to Jonny law?

Is 15% commission either way a good starting point?

Besides stranded energy like flare gas I just can't see how it would remotely be profitable.

The only way I can see anything like that working out money wise is solar depending on area. It may reduce your metering  rate in your favor.

That's about all I can think.
