341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The full truth behind ShadowCash/Coin trolls and their attacks on other coins. on: November 25, 2014, 03:43:18 PM
XST main thread and twitter were attacked by "professionals" FUDsters and trolls from SDC community. And why are people always surprised to see scam revealed after pump and dump in small altcoins with microscopic volume and no liquidity ?
342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nothing at stake robust Pure Proof of stake on: November 25, 2014, 03:33:52 PM

Finally about attacks. To execute a double-spending attack you would set aside a majority of 'clean' sleeper coins. You could not mine or spend these sleeper coins on the main chain. Once they are used for mining or spent, then they become useless for attack purposes. You would then reveal the sleeper coins all in one go by mining on an attack chain. This only works if you control a majority of 'clean satoshis', so that you can overtake the main chain as a solo miner. It is essentially a legitimate exercise of authority associated with 51% ownership. It is intended behavior.
You are right though that you can use past ownership of coins to swing things in your favor to some degree. Essentially, you would want to taint as many coins as possible to increase the influence of your clean coins. Unless you have handled 100% of satoshi's over the chain's lifespan, however, you can't taint every single satoshi out there.

As soon as an attack on the network happens (which must happen eventually for any alt to be viable tried and tested), the only problem is transaction processing is hindered and people choose to put the processing on hold. While this in itself can be very bad for business, the coins as they exist now in the network are STILL THERE and not lost in any way
In the long run a 51% attack will help strengthen the network and causes NO PROBLEMS for coins already confirmed in wallets.

Anarchy always seems to make sense here. People will have to bargain for protection from their closest peers, and from other people they trust. On the other hand, greed, self-righteousness and ignorance is fundamental traits of the human nature, and those pulls us back towards centralization.
I doubt we will ever be able to avoid some kind of mix between centralization and decentralization, and there will probably always be friction between them.
344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bear market to continue another 12 months on: November 25, 2014, 03:09:36 PM
Karpeles could be selling HUGE amounts of stolen coins. If that is the case: you better be not in bitcoin.

I can see signs of trendreversal on many alts for weeks - some good pumps already again. Can't hold alts down much longer. If bitcoin can't hold the drink we'll have to leave it behind.

So if (big if) Karp-fuck is the cause of this, once people realise there will be a huge run for the good altcoins. Litecoin could even move in to replace the bitcoin in that scenario.

MtGox will be giving a statement they're reinstating btc withdraws. People will buy btc there and leave to other exchanges to sell those cheap coins. The price at the other exchanges will stay low because of the steady income of cheap coins from MtGox.

Or

MtGox is insolvant and we'll see a crash on all exchanges.

After this entire debacle we'll be going up.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FTC vs. LTC vs. rock @lmao on: November 25, 2014, 03:00:16 PM
Litecoin's 24 hour volume is bigger than feathercoin's marketcap.Stop embarrassing yourself and dump your FTC for LTC before it gets delisted on btc-e.
I'd say if you forget both and jump in doge that would be much more profitable.
346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: November 25, 2014, 02:49:54 PM
Nice work on https://exco.in/ !

*Moving my blacks away from bittrex*  Grin

So is officially lunched ?

Yes it is officially launched!

Am I the only one who thinks that https://exco.in looks suspiciously similar to mintpal.com ?
Its ok, at least they offer proof of reserves https://exco.in/reserves. They shouldn't make the same mistake as Bittrex and for BC->Alts markets display also BTC price. Otherwise it can be very confusing.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 25, 2014, 02:43:58 PM
So now blockchain has a database so it doesn't eat all the RAM when you run the daemon?
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Quibitsphere 1m Coins, POS 10% ICO on: November 25, 2014, 02:07:39 PM
WOW this could be huge with gaming companies. I like the unusual concept and a good way to source funding through Crypto.. Smiley
Why would some person launch the ann on bitcointalk thread in attempt to collect such a "tiny" money, if this going to collapse the game industry and compete with already existed simulators?
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ALI]Alipaycoin|X14|Spot-to-Spot agreement-ICO on: November 24, 2014, 09:24:45 AM
Perfecto!

I've never made a dime for posting anything.   And I've never seen evidence that people were being paid to be negative towards XC
^^^ this
"being paid to be negative towards X altcoin" that's how business on bitcointalk works.

I'm heavily invested in Hal is Dan going to come back and finish his halcyon project? Or is he going to live investors like he's doing here?

FUD pump again?

Ninja or 1.30 hours left?
I'd guess everything that is not passing a week without listing can be considered as ninja.
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Pre-ANN][NOXT] - NobleNXT Proposal/Whitepaper - Noble's 1st Colored Coin on: November 23, 2014, 09:02:57 PM
From #NobleCoin IRC channel (Join us Smiley ):
Quote
[07:09] <Pikuchato> wow, I hope I got it right but does it mean noble/noxt going to have its own payment system? which can be used with every purchase that supports BPAY?
[07:10] <Pikuchato> what is "BPAY - Enabled Bill Received" ?
[08:34] <Pikuchato> So basicly rofo will pay BPAY to use their service?
[08:35] <Rofo> no I wont be paying BPAY
[08:35] <Rofo> ill be running an automated service that allows people to use BPAY with just NOBL/NOXT
[08:36] <Rofo> BPAY is a nationwide service that lets every aussie pay their bills and taxes digitally
[08:36] <Rofo> BTC was the only coin you could do that with recently but they closed up and dont offer it any more
[08:36] <Pikuchato> ohhhhhhhhh ok I get it now
[08:36] <Pikuchato> will this service support btc as well? or just noble/noxt?
[08:36] <Rofo> because its at a fixed stabilized rate also it means you can apply the 'discount' if our price goes below a certain level
[08:36] <Rofo> just nobl/noxt
[08:37] <Rofo> just 'our' coins
[08:37] <Pikuchato> so basicly it is correct to say that the only crypto that can be used with BPAY is noble/noxt? in the future of course not now
[08:37] <Rofo> yes
[08:37] <Pikuchato> wow Smiley
[08:37] <Rofo> im sure more might try in the future though if it catches on
[08:37] <Boreiv> \o/
[08:37] <Pikuchato> I'll read more about bpay I thought it is just a btc gateway
[08:37] <Boreiv> hail hosannah
[08:38] <Rofo> the advantage i always have is im public and ready to apply all tax/legal laws to myself in order to get these things done
[08:38] <Boreiv> shame i don't live in aus
[08:38] <Rofo> its relatively simple but just thought it was another attractive use of the coin, especially at a guaranteed rate
[08:39] <Rofo> 'BPAY is an electronic bill payment system in Australia which enables payments to be made through a financial institution's online or telephone banking facility to merchants who are registered BPAY billers.'
[08:39] <Pikuchato> rofo so after this system will work, is it correct to say you will be able to live in australia and pay *only* with noble/noxt? or it is not thats simple
[08:39] <Rofo> its that simple really
[08:39] <Rofo> you have taxes or a water bill
[08:39] <Rofo> you can pay it directly in noxt at a guaranteed rate
[08:40] <Rofo> the BTC system had no legal or financial/regulatory issues whatsoever from reading all their material (i would like to travel and meet them also next year).. they simply closed up because of the current double taxation issue
[08:40] <Pikuchato> it will take time until people will realise what you are building, I need to read it again myself Smiley
[08:40] <Rofo> which only becomes an issue if you got really big (and then started exploring adverts or something to make up for it) and assuming this loophole is not fixed in the near future
[08:41] <Rofo> the whole approach is relatively simple you just grab everything you can do with fiat
Providers have been working hard to make Bitcoin adoption easier for merchants and more rewarding for consumers. It will take YEARS to get the equivalent acceptance for your coin only in australia. What would make people willing to accept it? Since the main and only feature is not actually a feature but an aspiration to become the bitpay alternative for bitcoin in australia, the point is totally missed.
354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Geekcoin [GEEK] 2 Days POW | NO PREMINE | NO IPO | Launch Soon! on: November 23, 2014, 08:48:23 PM
The most laconic design i've ever saw. Good work.

so is this actually going to launch?

i hope not. 10 min block time and dev have 10000 coin RIGHT FUCKING NOW  and ready to dump

coin like this hurt crypto.

@exchange, stop listing shit like this. You just encourage shitcoin
That's not the case. If the best is happened, 7200 mineable per day which equals to 216,000 per month. Adding to an exchange will take about a month. If he sells 10,000 after a month for peanuts, its not the case to worry about.
356  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Momentum Proof-of-Work Bounty - 30 BTC on: November 23, 2014, 08:38:15 PM
I've managed to make a huge step forward in proving Momentum being not nearly as good for proof-of-work as intended.

The magic lies in using a Bloom filter to store the intermediate hashes.
As a result, instead of using 12 bytes per hash/nonce in a Semi-Ordered Map (which results in ~750 MB of memory), the required memory is (-1 * (2^26 * ln(0.01)) / (ln(2)^2)), or about ~76 MB.

This number can be reduced arbitrarily if we're willing to have a false positive rate greater than 1%.  For example, if we allowed up to a 50% chance of having a false positive, the memory requirement drops to ~11 MB.

Here's a overview of how the algorithm works:

  • Make a "main" bloom filter of size 2^26 with a false positive rate 1%: ~76 MB
  • Make a tiny "clash" bloom filter of size 2^16 and false positive rate 2^-26: ~0.7 MB
  • Make a vector of pairs< hash, nonce > to store candidate birthday collisions.
  • For each nonce in the search space, check if its hash exists in the "main" bloom filter.  If it is, add it's entry to the "clash" bloom filter.
  • The "main" bloom is no longer required and can be discarded.
  • For each nonce in the search check if its hash exists in the "clash" bloom filter.  If it does, add < hash, nonce > to a candidate list for investigation.
  • Sort the list of candidates by hash.
  • For each pair in the candidate list, see if the previous element has the same hash.  If it does, add it to the output list.  This step removes false positives by comparing the actual hash instead of the bloom filter's idea of a hash.
  • Return the output list as normal.

For your testing pleasure, I also built a working proof of concept.
(Most of the magic is right here.  The bloom filter is a modified version of "bloom.cpp" called "bigbloom.cpp")

Unmodified source: https://i.imgur.com/k2cNrmd.png

Source using bloom filters: https://i.imgur.com/w8Enf9e.png

In exchange for lowering the memory requirements by a factor of ~10, the algorithm runs at about 1/4th speed, mainly due to the doubling calls to SHA512 and the hash calls within the bloom filters.  The overall result is a net efficiency gain of approximately 2.5
The reduction in memory requirement means that if we could fit N instances of Momentum in GPU memory, we can instead fit 10*N instances.  If we up the false positive rate in exchange for more time spent sorting, we can achieve ratios of up to 70*N.

Given that bloom filters, SHA512, and sorting data are all parallel/GPU friendly, we can conclude that Momentum as a proof-of-work isn't nearly as GPU-hard as initially intended.

Yes, vey interesting concept. With so many problems with folks pushing unfair bots into this, right now ... it looks pretty bad. There are so many coins right now that are easy & inexpensive to setup and start running fast, making money & doing more lifting up this whole thing. With the money you make and helping others know what can be done. As long as you feel comfortable with it, then go for it!
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [MAL] MalibuCoin on: November 23, 2014, 08:28:40 PM
At difficulty 120 - a 1000 Mh/s will mine about 2500 MAL a day. Renting a rig costs about 0,25 BTC/1000 Mh/s . Added up = mining cost on diff 120 for MAL i 10 000 satoshi. Miners want to make a profit, so 10 000 is not really a high number right now.
That works if all around rent hash. Lots of miners still using own rigs and/or buckshee electricity etc.

IMO this works always - even if Your mining cost is lower (lets say You have free electricity), You always want to maximize Your profit from mining.
If You can have Your rig rented for 0,25 - why mine something that gives You less? There are two options:
1) You anticipate that the price is going to rise and mine in advance (smart thing to do), but You will not sell at a loss, since You don't need to
2) You cannot calculate the costs and margins on minig and You sell coins mined at a high difficulty for less then the actual mining price, thus allowing the investors that bought the coins make the profit instead of You.

Could be the third option: being excessively engrossed in calculating your ROI, you might not notice that the price suddenly crashed and you are sitting on worthless rubbish.

Wait... latium has viruses in wallet by design? LOOOOOL! even Trollcoin doesn't go that far!
Its a ''first viral'' cryptocurrency - can be obtained by signing up. Not to mention, limecoin - LIM practiсed that approach of distribution ages ago. Everyone now has insatiable desire to call something "world's first".

Escrow is also alive. I will wait. I prefer a coin release rather than a full refund. Where I live, sometimes my home internet is worse than my mobile phone internet.

yes funds is escrowed , nothing to worry about anyway Smiley
If you have indonesian meetups, why not use a proper way of escrowing the funds - an exchange for example?

My guess is that POS 2.0 is indeed about marketing, most people won't have a clue what the proposal is about, but it is better than v1.0 (probably referring to Peercoin) so must be good.
