341  Bitcoin / Mining / Mining, mining, mining... internet cuts out... only half of my miners resume!?! on: June 09, 2011, 12:21:13 AM
So I have at the moment 2 rigs of 6 video cards each hooked up to a single wireless/wired router.

I just noticed that my hashing rate had dropped on my pool stats sheet, so I went to check it out... assuming a card had frozen.

Nothing frozen, but my router was acting up for some reason. I was unable to access the internet for a period of a few minutes.

I am mining with linuxcoin and phoenix miner on both rigs.

On one rig, all cards resumed immediately.

On the other, only half of the cards resumed and the other still say 0mhash...

Any idea what could be causing this? Or do you know of a possible solution?

well, I can tell you that many people are pissed off about the ability to get money into the system, mtgox or any other exchange.
dwolla sucks, liberty reserve sucks, bank wire sucks, it all blows, the private markets are lurky and murky . Ive been trying to buy since 9 and have witnessed a 20 point move. That is aggravating to say the least, considering its all upon the middlemen, which is the whole point of establishing BTC, get rid of these controlling middlemen.

The craziness, all goes back to what I said earlier, that people here brushed off or didnt understand.  The float on BTC is so small  that the volitility on BTC will be insane. and it is.  Programmers are not economists and I dont feel that the community understands the dynamics of markets, float, volume etc. Ive been a trader in various professional markets for 16 years, and I tell you now, the insanity is just beginning because of the very limited float. MTGox is in over their head, and will become more so as things proceed. My guess is that the mob in russia is attempting to corner the market and with this float it wont be that hard. There are so many variables here, that the community doesnt understand, but I think the education is starting.

It seems like there is a huge opportunity for someone to provide an easy way to buy Bitcoins and make a ton of money from it.

It is. And when that opportunity comes to fruition... there will be a large increase in price.

Don't feed this troll. Don't comment on his crappy blog.

Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 BTC.

This is just a copy of this original blog post anyways: http://dont-tread-on.me/what-will-collapse-first-bitcoin-or-the-dollar/

Even more reason not to comment...

Ships to:   Worldwide

LOL

Actually if my memory serves me correctly, digital goods were banned from sale on ebay...

I thought this was the case as well. But perhaps it is only "copyrightable" downloadable products that are banned?

There are some linden dollars for sale on ebay... but only 6 sellers. If it were allowed to sell them through ebay I would expect many more people than that.
348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What price is high enough? on: June 08, 2011, 10:12:17 AM
It is a tough question to answer.

Part of me wants to cash out if/when bitcoins reach $1,000 a piece... and part of me "knows" that will never happen (that is self doubt talking there, not disbelief in bitcoins).

So should I sell some at $50 then? I probably will. Not many but I would like to "make my money back" before the network gets hacked/tycho goes crazy/insert doomsday scenario here/etc/etc...
349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Some genius selling bitcions through ebay? on: June 08, 2011, 10:10:45 AM
Genius or idiot?

he is selling them here... http://cgi.ebay.ca/1-50-Bitcoins-Bitcoin-Sale-Bit-Coin-Coins-BTC-/120735219786?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1c61404a

Apparantly has sold over 30 of them at 37 bucks a peice???

I guess you would have to sell higher than normal if you are risking paypal chargebacks/paypal account closures/etc...

Seriously if the seller is reading this, stop doing so now. You will only cause problems for you and your customers. PayPal will freeze your funds. They are the enemy.
350  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: June 08, 2011, 09:56:45 AM
Hey,

Nothing bad has happened. What basically happened was that when I first setup Britcoin, a US company (BrainChild Products) gave me the resources to create an exchange since they were planning to setup a legalised exchange using my software (something we've been pushing hard for).

Now we're consolidating everything under a single entity in order to get legal legitimisation for Britcoin (one of the conditions of our potential contract). To transfer ownership for a UK domain is different to other domains. Basically the owning company has to change the IPS tag and then relinquish control. Then we have to quickly snap up the domain on the other side.

During that interval, somebody (a domain squatter) would be able to grab the domain. Therefore we had to keep secret during this domain name ownership transfer.

Tonight the server will be down from midnight onwards for approximately 4 hours while we migrate our servers over. You can withdraw BTC from the site, but withdrawing GBP won't do anything and in fact might hinder the operating of the site. A little downtime was to be expected, since we're upgrading Britcoin to a more legitimate infrastructure (legally & technically). Hopefully this is the last non-smooth upgrade since there was no other way to do this non destructively for UK domain names.

As a webmaster. Everything you just said makes no sense at all.

I have never transferred a .co.uk domain... but that seems absurd that you must relinquish the domain to the public in order to transfer it. We are in 2011 here.

Also if a domain squatter has managed to gain control on the domain... because you gave it up... (which looks like what happened) you have no recourse now.

Are you telling me that it was you who put up the generic domain squatter/ad grabbing web page?

If this is all an innocent mistake... try sending your users and email next time/at least making a blog post before you yank a "bank" offline. That can really get under somebody's skin.

i am trying to start a phoenix session with a 6870 card and these flags
VECTORS BFI_INT BIT_ALIGN FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=12

i have only used the mac versions and windows GUI versions of bitcoin mining so i dont really know any of this stuff
i tried typing in phatk but that doesnt seem to do anything.

the window flashes for a second then takes me back to menu

353  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What are some of the dangers of voltage tweaking GPUs? on: June 07, 2011, 08:50:13 AM
It's not about the card detecting the voltage and killing itself, it's just about the core not being able to handle that much voltage. You decrease the resistance and increase current flow into anything that wasn't designed to handle that much current then you have trouble.

The card's range of voltage is well within the safe limits of what the card can handle on air cooling, though, so you should be perfectly fine.

Not quite getting that last sentence?

I increased the stock voltages by 12% and am able to increase the core clock about as much and keep it stable.

What is a maximum recommended voltage increase for any ATI card in general? Does anybody know?

It's not a general number across all ATI cards, for the 5830/5850/5870 max safe voltage on air, would be around 1.3v assuming you could keep it cool.

And what I meant was that the card has a voltage range, that is defined by the bios that tells the card not to let the voltage go any higher. That programmed range was tested by the GPU manufacturer and is known to be safe voltages to run 24/7.

Do you mean the voltage range that I can see in RBE (0.95 for the "low level", 1.063 for the "mid level" and 1.163 for the "high level")...? Or is there an actual lock on the card that will not allow it to increase over X voltage (say 1.4v for example...) no matter what I change my bios to?

Right now I have changed my BIOS to 1.4v (a 20% increase on the "high level") and can achieve ~1060mhz gpu core on my card for at least 20 minutes. The card rests at about 78 Celsius at that speed.
354  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What are some of the dangers of voltage tweaking GPUs? on: June 07, 2011, 08:45:51 AM
Heat does more damage than voltage. Assuming you don't run your card up to 100c+ temps you should be fine.
Technically you're right. The problem is that what you're measuring is the heat of the silicon block, when it's really the heat in the microscopic wires that matters. If you're over volting they may be red burning hot even if you are able to cool the measured temperature of the chip to 50c.

Makes sense enough.

Could I benefit from a product like this perhaps? (Linked to an infared thermometer on eBay.)

My cards are "floating" in the air above their respective motherboards. I do not have them in a typical computer case. So I can easily check the temperature of the PCB.

What temperature should the back of the PCB in general be limited to?

Yes I don't see how a card could detect a certain voltage and then freak out/burn out over it?

Higher current will definitely cause more heat, and that is the only thing in my mind that can harm the video card. Am I right?
359  Bitcoin / Mining / What are some of the dangers of voltage tweaking GPUs? on: June 07, 2011, 07:31:31 AM
Every tutorial I read that mentions voltage sounds like you are giving your GPU card a death sentence and to only be done by "technically experienced individuals"... blah blah blah... you will break your card. I assume this is all legal fodder. :/

So I have increased the voltage on the highest voltage range setting approximately +15% and this has allowed me to reach up to 1025 mhz on a card that typically tops out at 950 mhz with stock voltages.

The temperature is at approximately 75 degrees Celsius when I leave the stock fan settings running - or 70 Celsius when I have the fans set to 95%.

Am I doing any hard to my video card? Do I have anything to worry about? Will this action decrease it's live by multiple times?

What is the danger of setting my voltage too high? Is it simply that the card will get too hot eventually and "melt down" so to speak? If so then I should be safe at 75 degrees Celsius correct?

Can I increase the voltage from +15% to +25% so long as my temperatures stay below 85 degrees Celsius?
360  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Pool hopping - I'm 12 and what is this? on: June 06, 2011, 06:48:14 AM
There is already a pool mining proxy out there (that jumps pools whenever your favorite goes down) - it is not a bad thing in my eyes but a smart thing.
