341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][MNT] Mintcoin, energy saving coin with a fast distribution on: February 07, 2014, 06:31:45 AM
If premine hasn't been announced yet, you're probably looking at 2-3%.  I hope I'm wrong...

Will be announced right before launch, no time to troll or bash.

-tb-

You're wrong! And we don't give details because we don't want to be cloned before our launch.

Wow this is so stupid.  I am at a loss for words.  Like the premine % is some proprietary trade secret.  I almost jumped on it then realized another piece of shit coin.

It's not about forger's profit. It's about secure system. In Nxt u need coins to generate block, more coins = more chances. It makes front-attack expensive: attacker'll need biggest part of coins to write buggy chain that still'd be most diff. one (all honest chains'll be forks in this case).

If u replace PoS with PoN in start, low amount of nodes'll make network extremly vulnerable. I'm not sure even with later replacement, cos node-based attack always'll be cheaper than $/bruteforce-based attack (buy coins to generate buggy chain or crack Curve to do the same or to kill project). Should we sacriface attack cost gap for "fairness" (equal node-based forging)? I'm almost sure, that correct answer is "NO".

Well said.

Too many people throwing out random ideas to keep it "fair" but don't readily understand how things are exploited.  If you want the coin to be viable, the ***#1**** goal is security.  You start putting in PON and good luck with maintaining security.  I myself need to read more about NXTs, but at least it doesn't jump out at me as a 'bad idea' like PON does.

I doubt we have 3000 newbies. And you just need to skim through the emails anyway, the purpose is to make it so that it takes 10mins to write the email but just 5 secs to skim through it. The guy creating 150 accounts would need to write 150 emails and send from 150 different addresses... impractical. We might still get the odd guy that uses his work email and his wife's email, but we are making it more difficult and at least we block the whales.

If we are going to start doing this, do we have an option for a refund?   This is a complete absurdity from the simple fact that the sock puppets can and will send you emails with some dopey story.  This is a time sink and detracts from getting a working coin out the door. My recollection is the social contract says funding accounts will be refunded so it isn't like NEM gains by keeping their money.  And if NEM did keep their money, it'd be a black eye on NEM as a whole.

Closing registration?  Now NEM is starting to really gain funds.  If the devs are going to write a lot of code then they need the money, even if it does increase the chances someone walks off with the loot.

Last I knew you have to sit on this site and lurk for some time before you can even post.

In the end all you'll do is weed out the lesser intelligent "whales" or "scammers" or what have you.  Also, you might want to consider that the people who go through the trouble to get a few shares might give more because of their increased stake.  Having multi-accouters doesn't necessarily hurt the coin, it could in fact help.

NXT 0.6.0 was released.
AFAIK this version is the one they were holding back a little due to major refactoring they were trying to keep away from clones as long as possible.

Is this verison going to be the base for NEM ?

I am a bit concerned about this.  I heard fork thrown about, now I hear about a rewrite from scratch.  I'd prefer a fork with adjustments or find real value to add if from scratch.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 05, 2014, 03:18:03 AM
Update: the stakeholder list is updated to the end of page 40. So I finally catch up with the list. The account count is over 2200 but this number will drop quite a bit when we delete all unqualified accounts and duplicate accounts. There is only 1 duplicate hash fraudster in the last 10 pages so it looks like this guy has temporarily give up.

Kooream has been working on an audition of registration thread 1 and his earlier report shows that there are quite a few fraudsters there. One more issue is that many people who are initially unqualified now come back, edit the post and claim their place.  Since thread 1 is unregulated, there is no easy way to deal with that issue. Perhaps, we should look at the transaction's time stamp to determine if a transaction in a later date is qualified or not. Nevertheless, no change in stakeholder list- thread 1 will be made until Kooream's and my audition of the thread 1 is over.

UP

Save all pages to disk ?  It'd take a few minutes.  Click/file/save as/next page.  Then you have a snapshot.  If you are going to give people ideas then you should probably put up counter-measures.  Good work though.

edit - I clicked on Print and saw this whole thread in one page.  So go click print on the other thread, and save the html.  Easy !

Ok so I've both rented and leased out miners now.  It would be nice if you would resolve addresses or do more error checking on input.  I thought I was being robbed then noticed I had left off a .com in one of the addresses.

Another thing would be to just make profiles so people don't have to reenter data for the pools they use.  This would cut down on errors too.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 05, 2014, 02:32:40 AM
and another thing for our sw dev team... we seriously should consider using more complex addresses that incorporate error detecting codes that forging nodes can verify, so the forging node can reject a transmission should a sending node develop memory errors, and so the network can reject a forging node's block should the forging node develop memory errors.

Imagine the scenario were a high volume server that processes TONS of transactions and that server starts going bad...

Yes, please use error detecting codes.  2 digits added to the code should be plenty to store a CRC, yet not really hurt the coin in any way.  If you make addresses alphanumeric, then you could shorten the codes and still encode a wider range of inputs + checksum tech.

So am I the only one who has associated the acronym POS with something other than proof of stake for decades???

No.  And I thought the whole point of strong crypto was to make it impossible to forge blocks.

Point being that if NEM truly is marketing to the myriad of girlfriends, toddlers, and dogs that make up a large portion of the stakeholders, might try to not use acronyms the rest of the world uses for something different.

This would garner a laugh but no serious attention from most of the US population that saw it.

POS works like "No Envy Movement".  Without being knowledgable about altcoin world, no one has any clue what the "envy" relates to.

In the same regard, the use of POS usually stands for piece of s***.  This is what will pop out in many American's head who sees it outside altcoin context.  At least it will be more common than "proof of stake".

So that then poses another question. Why do people want to know where rigs are located if all traffic is going through the EU? Is it just for support reasons?

This rig rental thing adds an extra server in the chain.  So   miner -> EU proxy -> pool   ....  if miner is in EU then that shaves millisecs off network latency... less rejects/stale shares.
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BETARIGS.COM - Cryptocurrency cloud mining - 400 Mh/s rented just now!! on: February 04, 2014, 08:52:55 PM
My rig is based in Australia so my ping to that particular pool may have been too high?
Ive checked logs on this side since ive just woken up and there have been no power outages or ISP drop outs.
Which pool were you connected to?

Does it matter how far a rig is from any pool since all hashes go through the EU server ?  So only thing that matters is how far you are from the one (?) proxy server provided by betarigs ?

Am I correct in my reasoning ?

In the future you will be able to buy and sell babies with NEM.

If it looks like nec, this is may due to the blue... so... as it is a green money, here is a new version of a FDFFGNC : 'flat designed future fractal green nem coin'

- I predict future coins will be square ! hmm... I believe...
- with a free 'fractal' effect added : infinite zoom is possible, as the whole coin has the shape of the 'E'
- the 'N' is like a gate : enter in the New Economy Model !
- the 'E' can be seen as a hand : sharing is caring
- the 'M', I don't know... The shape of a guy into the gate ? ie a human centered money ?

So, those hieroglyphs may also mean : "enter the gate, welcome to sharing, it is YOUR green money".

This is 'nem plus ultra' version ! Smiley

Good stuff guy.  I don't think puke green should be the final choice, but I like the fractal zoom. The color is different but I don't think it is psychologically appealing.  Perhaps you should make another sample with the fractal zoom applied once so people know what you mean ?   Anyway thanks for your work.
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Type of NEM Client on: February 04, 2014, 07:15:55 AM

I think people prefer the typical compiled binary.

A web thing is fine and all but the installation was a mess with Java.  I'm not sure there is much compatibility benefit outside of being easily portable to android.

Really it isn't a question.  I doubt many people even NXT users prefer the web interface.  I like it, but it took a bit to get working.  I'd also be afraid that it opens up more security issues being inside your web-browser + java based.

If you are going to make a native client, make it look like copperlark or megacoin wallets.  Not all gray and generic looking.

The other problem is it is a bit weird for people to run a server and then use their webbrowser to access it.  That is a pretty big leap for a computer newbie. Even I had problems when I already had it running.  I just happen to know what the errors meant from being a dev.

Check out NEM logo collection http://www.flickr.com/photos/115246188@N06/

olivern and adobkin  are the 2 I would choose.  If there isn't coin in the name then it doesn't need to be a coin based logo.
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 04, 2014, 02:04:20 AM

When will the list of presumed fraudsters be posted so they can start claiming their funds ?   I was on the list earlier today but waited for things to settle down.  I then see a post claiming veteran accounts are given precedence ?  Do you mean the actual title "veteran"?

My account is from 2012 and I'd really like to know who scammed my transaction, lol.

In the end a list of all the accounts that are proven "fraudsters" should be posted for the greater good of bitcointalk.

I believe I did it right.
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 21, 2014, 09:06:33 AM

The high transaction fees is a bit silly.  It seems to me meant as a equity grab from the guys who already hold huge shares of NXT.  It just looks bad.

More importantly it kills the micro-payments market.  If NXT could handle that and keep fees small, then BTC would have very little over it except maturity and what that entails.
358  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bter.com cannot withdraw currency/funds on: January 21, 2014, 04:24:18 AM

bter.com switched deposit addresses.  I used my old address. (stupid assumption)

Upon realizing my mistake I had it resolved through email within an hour. (Right at an hour)

Really it is pretty impressive.  Easier to staff Chinese ?
359  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bter.com Support e-mail answering time / backlog on: January 21, 2014, 02:47:01 AM
So I just realized they change deposit addresses ..............

I got a confirmation email that my issue is on the list to be processed..

edit - THey actually fixed it within an hour, it would have been faster but there was an extra email exchanged for a screenshot of the wallet.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] RazorLove Cryptocurrency Services - DBL, CENT, & FOO/BAR Updates on: January 10, 2014, 06:47:12 AM
Sure, the over valued stake is being fixed, but the whole PoS system is broken as hell from the ground up, and it would just cause unnecessary hassle for in-game usage. I can not in any way endorse or support it's use in games simply because I know it's a terrible idea.

Can you give us a brief explanation what you mean by this ?  Would any PoS not work because of certain issues ?  What problems do you forsee with CENTS ?  Thanks for you input.
