342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: did ASIC ruin bitcoin ? on: August 19, 2013, 05:29:21 AM
The space race is fucking over.  Hype has fallen and yes BTC more then likely needs a fix.  2  years of speculation lead to a ton of improvements on GPU and FPGA Mineing.  For some it was an education.  Myself included.  Now that we really don't have much to tweak on we are bored and restless LOL.

It's an arms race now. No real fun in that.  No real education aside from perhaps understanding ASIC Tech. I pray daily somebody will find a homebrew method to allowing one to expand on this hardware they have.  But thay isn't going to happen.  I for one am going to continue keeping one or two gpu rigs around.  So much can be done aside from ET Search and PW Cracking.

For me it's not about money.  This hosted mineing shit with 4737474GigaNanoUberBits of hash powet per person.  Thats more money then brains

Oh I have two I can share.

2004 - High Speed Wobble

I got caught in a nasty head wind while rideing a motorcycle.  Caused the bike to enter a high speed wobble at about 85MPH (The speed limit) after trying to power out and loseing control I drifted or wobbles into the median.  I ejected from the bike tumbleing down the highway. The bike actually vaulted three times in the air.  I ripped half my nose off. Fractured 8 bones in my hand.  Had lacerations everwher.  Broke my baby toe knocked several teeth out.  And road rash to boot.  The doctor I had said I was a rare case.  A full face helmet would have killed me.

2012 - I drove a concrete nail. A rather lrg one into my right foot.  Shattered 4 bones and went straight out the bottom.  It actually looked like QT's hand on from dusk til dawn.

I healed great from both epic owies. Lifehappens

This is an easy fix.  I get along with TF.  Used to shoot the shit with him often on BTC-E. He's younger by far then me.  But is pretty brilliant when it comes to development. Now to be honest I don't trust anyone with my ID  I don't use PayPal anymore because I refuse to provide scanned ID.

Also stealing passwords and such.  Yeah what's the common sence thing to do in that case.  Don't even remotely make that password even close to those that lock up what's important.

As far as ripple is concerned.. I don't support the idea that google is 100% legit.  For christ sakes they built G+ just to data mine.  They are on record saying that they really don't care if you use it or even keep it.  They have what they need.  They restrict you from commenting on other elements of googles service sphere. IE: try to make a comment on google play w/o a G+ account.  It isn't happening.

Inputs feels like ripple.  I figured that's what he's eventually going for.  I believe the source is available for it.  That was one of his major fights.  Next to the IOU exploit.

Bottom line it isn't mandatory to use his service.
346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Securing your bitcoin mining equipment from theft - ideas? on: August 19, 2013, 03:03:32 AM
Get them insured for one.  Depending on who's dishing it out and what you are paying.  You could get the miner paid for if it was boosted. Take pictures of your shit. Where it is an any identifying marks.  Perhaps the community could come up with a bar code serial number system for miner units.  So if this shit hits a pawn shop it's got something for the books. And that's only if a pawn shop takes it. Most of the time they require to see the item working.  LoL how many thiefs will really know what they have?.

Getting crafty is an option as well.  Hide that shit in something they would not think to open.  Ie a chest freezer.  Unless they plan on boosting a fozen pizza one could just stash this someplace and not have to worry about anyone really

348  Bitcoin / Hardware / DYI Mini Heatskinks for micro controler, ASIC and other projects on: August 18, 2013, 08:30:51 PM

I noticed quite a few miners are dabbling with cooling down some of the little things that matter.such as a raspberry pi,  beaglebone, USB Stick miner etc. I've seen some pretty narly jerry rig setups, heatsinks larger then the device just teetering.  Legos and heatsinks fuck you name it it's done.

Sick part is some of the ones who are modding are spending way more money then need be spent on smaller heatsinks and fans that can be found free in certain situations. I scrap my old dead hardware anyway so basically for me I'm just useing already on hand parts.

Heatsinks are super easy to file, cut,  grind and smooth.  With a little stick time with your machine or hand tool of choice you can be cooling down the whole operation in no time. Along side dead mother board heatsinks or other. You will also find PSU's give you a sweet block of metal to work with.

These are two examples of what you will find.  The one next to the dime is a fantastic way to start. You can cut through the metal with a hand saw.  Or use dremel or alternate cutting tools.  To size them down you can cut,  buff at speed or saw.  You will be needing a strong but not heavy grit sand paper to be tidy

That heatsink will make about 14 smaller heatsinks.  Adafruit is selling smaller heatsinks for up to $3.00.

Now the bottom heatsink in the photo is another story. You can work with them to make your own custom job.  These I've always found in older or smaller wattage psus. So if you are in a hurry to get something attached quickly.  This is a no.

349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / USPS Insurance Claim - Item Paid For In BTC. + results so far on: August 18, 2013, 12:19:44 AM

So getting to the skinny I ordered a PSU off a gentelmen on this fourm.  He sent it 3 day mail and it arrived today.  The box looked slightk y rough but the contents wher well packed and didn't jar around.  Needless to say I got it home and it's RMA material.

Now I could bitch to the seller and demand money back or take his offer of just paying shipping for a replacement (he had two). But instead I thought hell let's file a claim. I filed online sending a welp of photos of the packageing, the item and supplied then with screen shots of the deal s pms as well as the bitcoin TX ID. I also threw in a link to the TX as well.

Now here is where it gets crazy.  I'm talking with my father in law about all of this.  All the while he's telling me "be prepared for no responce then all of a sudden a NO". Moments later I receive a call from the usps. I expained to them I used crypto to pay for the item. Also expressing my concern over if they view it in any form of value.

Whereas it is not "Legal Tender". It is an item of value and has a price tag.  Go figure they are going ahead with the claim.

Monday I will go down and show the post master it doesn't work.  More then likely with a paperclip in hand to show it's a paper weight.

I will update this as shit starts rolling

Why give money to someone else?

Because they provide added value, deliver goods and services, you like what they do, it's good for the bitcoin economy, etc.

Are we speaking of the people we are tipping or the services offered to aid in tipping?  If we are talking  the individual I agree

Oh man kudos.  And even more for the small stuff Smiley nice to see someone useing a pico psu. Anyhow this is impressive. I never got quite this deep. I'm thinking I need to. I have some breakout cells that will charge a 12v battery during the day and supply a good night and a morning of reserve power. I also have a windmill I picked up for $600 that I can pull enough juice from to run lighting and charge devices with. Together it could substain two people comfortable. That is ofcourse making sure shits OFF.

Blah I'm tired.  Mostly wanted to watch this post but we see how far that went
356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin.org a little scammy in... on: August 14, 2013, 06:08:56 AM

Very good point about no exchange info being on the main site.  The wiki and this fourm habe a welp of knowledge on what you are looking for.  Perhaps they figure you will end up here or the wiki pretty quick.  I'd say you are correct in that it needs both ends of the spectrum
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All kinds of stuff for sale with BTC. we need to be careful on: August 14, 2013, 05:45:32 AM
"To enjoy freedom, [...] we have of course to control ourselves." --Virginia Woolf

Empoweoqwj, you're not really adding to the discussion here.  It turns out that the world is a complicated place.  When Bitcoin users are persecuted by association or Bitcoin itself is attacked on the basis of its unlawful use by some of its users that hurts all the users of Bitcoin including those who aren't engaging in those activities.   Because none of us use Bitcoin in isolation we all have a responsibility to our fellow users to execute our freedoms with consideration and minimize the collateral damage to others.  Even when that damage comes from places that are believed to be unjust or misguided, it is no less _real_ and does no less harm to people. Special care is required when an activity is very profitable to you, since that can create biases that help you ignore the costs/risks your justifiable-to-you actions indirectly impose on everyone— including a lot of people who aren't sharing in your profits.

In my view one of the limitations in popular libertarian philosophy is that it takes an overly limited view of violence against others, because a more complete perspective must acknowledge how very difficult and limiting completely avoiding harming others through your actions can be.

I would imagine that a lot of that stuff is just pure ignorance. In any developed place on earth the number of laws and regulations makes their scope beyond any single person's ability to comprehend them.  While some are enforced more frequently than others, it's not actually that surprising to encounter people who are not aware of the rules they may be violating. Even something like selling alcohol— in the US its normal for supermarkets to have beer and wine (and liquor in many places), it's not hard to imagine that someone might think it to be no big deal to sell some on Bitmit.

A possible course of action would be to just politely contact the people selling this stuff (or the sites hosting it) when you run into something that you're aware is problematic and express your concern. ... if people can't handle a little nagging and tattling by other community members they're surely not going to enjoy some state agency breathing down their throat.

I'm steering to ignorance.  It's folks that live close to dispensers.  So I'm sure if it's legit and not a."plant" they are figureing it will move quick. I believe certain things need filtering.  Not all in the states care of you ship booze.  Bit the laws as you know are tricky.  Scares me really

OMG, really, alchohol can be bought with bitcoins. This is terrible ..... hard drugs on SR isn't a problem because nobody knows about that but alcopops on the regular web. I had no idea that kind of activity was going on. Let's get it banned immediately before it takes down bitcoin

Whilst doing that, ban cash as well 'cos I know kidz buy alcopops with that as well from the street, not to mention drugs ...

Valid point,  bullshit is everywhere.  It will be purchased with anything of value.  However my point is not to get rid of it. Just police it.  My state goverment does not allow for importing of booze by mail.  Nor tobacco.  Bootlegging is heavily punished if caught.  It's easy money.

At some point this will be a topic from hell.  Ways exist to atleast cover our ass enough wher we can continue to use bitcoin in the lower 48. If you don't believe the press doesn't already have screen shots of the blokes selling weed on bitmit apparently out of las vegas.  You are up in the night.  They smear BTC as is. Imagine the 700 club useing the political jesus tool to go.  L@@K it's SIN.

359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / All kinds of stuff for sale with BTC. we need to be careful on: August 14, 2013, 03:41:39 AM

So no doubt each country has a laundry list of things that are a no no to have. I've noticed as of late lots of booze and contraband being sold around the "surface web".; ofcourse I figure some of these are straight up bait.  Where as others are straight up fuck the man style listings.

When the party favor market was strictly tor based.  One could argue it wasn't easy to buy. At the moment there are atleast a dozen listings alone on bitmit that are regularly controled by the US goverment.  I understand that to block, censor or control the sale of anything with BTC takes away from a goal of the project.  However I'd like to keep useing coins.

Ii feel if no community policeing is done someone else will attempt to do it for us.  They won't be so nice about it and the penalty will apply to everyone.  I propose we restrict ourselves from allowing contraband, booze or tobacco products in areas of the world they maybe controled in.

Long story short;

Don't make it easy for some 11 year old kid to fuck everything up buying party favors to get laid off bitmit
360  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sudden rise in Bitcoin transaction numbers - any theories why? on: August 14, 2013, 03:28:17 AM

Well folks are useing it.  Buying miners paying for parts.  Buying old gpu rig parts and some new.  All kinds of shit being sold.  I believe a few wised up to cashing out to these central sources. I believe some of the fear of tradeing for goods has expired.  Atleast in the action of doing it.

I think it's sinking in that privacy is not a right it's a privlage. If you take s loan from anyone.  You waive the right to a private existence from pestering calls, letters and courts. Yiu r credit go's fuck and nobody wants to deal with you when it comes to serious shit.

It's no different here but we do not have access to a collections service. So what happens instead?  A whole page of info.  The who what and where of a person.  Sometimes worse then what a collections agent would do.  Bitcoiners will call your fucking mom man!

I think that knee jerk community reaction to a problem allows for more secure feelings.  Along with escrow it's pretty awesome what's been done.  I also feel $100  Bitcoin does it for people.  It's simple fraction and holy shit easy to work with on the fly. I believe the community as a whole agrees on that.  Abd thus itnhas stayed at or around $100.

I think people need to quit being dipshits and trying to sell booze,  contraband and other federal nasties within the US or to people in the US. If it's legal elsewhere then cool.  Make it so people in those areas can grab those things.  I know elements such as that detract from the plan.  But if we don't do some of our own policeing someone else not so nice will.
