341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: pirate payments list -- accounts paid: 23/459 on: September 06, 2012, 08:02:07 PM
Uhh, he was saying that your $1.4 million reasons do not ruin my reputation for life. I agree with him. You take bitcoin far too seriously. Perhaps it's time for a break from the forums.

pirate relinquished his throne. MNW is the new King of the Trolls.
342  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 06, 2012, 07:58:24 PM
MNW still taking bets that MNW won't pay?
343  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Putting your money where Pirate's mouth is. on: September 06, 2012, 06:25:24 PM
Happy days, is Vandroiy already in control of his well-deserved earnings?

No, nanotube says he currently has no access to his offline wallet. Give him some time, I doubt he'd dump the WoT over 10k BTC. Wink

The WoT is next to worthless now anyway. after all, pirate had the highest rating. Is he still an op in #bitcoin-otc? lol
344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google "bitcoin" and take a GOOD LOOK on: September 06, 2012, 05:26:04 AM
Ok...then the seventh result on the first page.  Either way, I think repentance is right, and results are location dependant.

Not location dependent, Google will indeed display results based on watching your trends and searches, but thats localized to your habits.

Clear your cache and temp files.. you get true rankings.

Or just search duckduckgo.com (uses google results. bitcointalk is on first page there), or open an "incognito" tab and search through that. Google will tailor searches to your cookies, not your ip address (other than geo-location) afaik.
345  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LibertyReserve mass account blocking on: September 05, 2012, 08:27:28 AM

Thanks for this. LR website up but.. no withdrawals!

Quote
All the assurances left by LibertyReserve on their official blog are no more than a slap in the face for the ever suffering clients:

“We have finished restoring account access statuses for many accounts that were erroneously secured before. Now, you should have full access to your accounts and funds within them.”

I would like to report that not only were the problems not fixed, there were actually more blockages/limitations reported after LibertyReserve came back online after the week of “maintenance” including one of my own LR accounts.

Check and check..

E-gold was more like Liberty Reserve. Liberty Reserve is now down for maintenance after reports from people getting locked out of their high-value accounts.

This will be an interesting few weeks. Here's what I hope to see:

LR will be gone.
Pirate will be gone.
Bitcoin will remain standing.

On 9th, anger will flood the streets.

And it's gonna drizzle Satoshis

I'm more looking forward to a statement about your *real* motivations for the bet. Its difficult to accept that you were entirely honest about believing that "pirate will pay" (was stupid then, and obviously stupid in retrospect). How you gonna spin it?

If he pays he won't have to spin it.

But he would just look rich and stupid. He can spin it to seem generous instead.
347  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Pirate Pass Through Bonds! on: September 05, 2012, 08:05:34 AM

It doesnt just affect people who invested in pirate though. You can get screwed if you invested in a fund that claimed to have no pirate exposure now it turns out they did through one of their deposits. This pirate shit has infected the whole market and people are getting burnt who wanted nothing to do with his scam.

With that, I agree.  I know of at least one scheme where the line was blurred, but was eventually disclosed, and there are others that have had their liquidity screwed by the sudden closing of BS&T.  It is surprising and disappointing, but then perhaps I should not be too surprised.  It helps demonstrate the thin economy and that we're still very early in the bitcoin story.

It demonstrates the consequences of fractional accounting. Has nothing to do with a "thin economy" or early phase of bitcoin (cf 2008 financial crisis).

350  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: September 05, 2012, 07:33:56 AM
How can anyone dare to speculate about a future price in this super low volume trading in the span of already 3 days now? If anything if this continues don't you think it's the most likely the price wont go anywhere but sideways?

Agreed. Sideways seems most likely, depth is strong on both sides. Market needs more more time to consolidate before it will start to lean one way or the other.

Next, I also find it amusing that everyone is assuming that this address belongs to Pirate. In fact, some quick analysis on my part seems to show otherwise. It's most likely Silk Road.

I can do better than that. I can prove it belongs to Silk Road by transactions I moved in there and subsequently out of there, but since anyone can do so without breaking any laws, I'll refrain from going into detail and let someone else do the dirty work of "proving" it. I'll admit I don't really know much about Silk Road, but I was able to at least discern this from the short time I moved coin in and subsequently out.

I really am starting to think that a significant number of Bitcoiners are just remaining comfortably numb regarding the impact and sway that Silk Road has on Bitcoin price. I don't know why, though. Plus, it seems like the ultimate free mixer, they don't charge even a Bitpenny and you can be assured you have completely cleaned your coin. Well, "cleaned" it by at least assuring it can't be tied to your online identity, not really "cleaned" it by separating it from possible association with illegal activity.

I still maintain that it is most likely an MtGox address. I bet if you look at previous MtGox deposits/withdrawlals, you will find it taints MtGox transactions just as much, if not more, than SR transactions. Its impossible to do more analysis until there's more activity (last send transaction was 8/17/2012).
352  Other / Meta / Re: A Public Plea for Civility on: August 30, 2012, 07:39:23 PM
The problem really lies in the Marketplace, where posts are over run by random dumb comments. If someone post a security, goods, or services type post why do people feel the need to comment if they can not contribute?
[..snip..]
But what are we to do as the whole? I think the Market place needs a overhaul really bad with stricter posting guidelines.

The problem with the Marketplace is that its overrun by "give me money" scams and ponzis. "Give me money and I'll give you back a percentage of it" scams are extremely anti-civil and damaging to the community and to the economy.

The dumb clutter is all the comments like "he paid me back 20BTC so I just gave him 2,000 BTC Smiley two thumbs up. trustworthy guy with high rating". Everyone can see where that logic got them with pirate.

Marketplace, securities, lending, etc. would be removed it were up to me. Pirate and pass-through operators and ponzi copycats and "mining biz" loan-takers should start a forum for themselves on bitcoinhyip.biz.
353  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: List of Lying deposit takers, and the reasons why on: August 30, 2012, 07:20:51 PM
Okay. If "chungenhung" isn't a "lying deposit taker", we can still add him to the list of ponzi operators.
354  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closed on: August 30, 2012, 07:11:10 PM
I just hope pirate doesnt pull the payb.tc didnt comply with my requests so you all get nothing card

His excuse doesn't matter. Whatever it is, you'll get nothing.
355  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: August 30, 2012, 06:01:39 PM
I think we've had enough of the scams, tricks, lies, thieving, etc, and I'm glad my bet has already served many of it's multiple purposes. Can't wait until September 9th.

You said you made the bet because you were tired of people screaming "SCAM!" accusations "without evidence".
356  Other / Off-topic / Re: The pirate ponzi fiasco on: August 30, 2012, 05:57:01 PM
I would like to see pirate's ip addresses and PMs made public. If there are concerns about of the privacy of his (perhaps unwitting) co-conspirators, the names of senders and recipients could be redacted.

Can't let you miss this one by kimmeriets:

Love it! Was wondering when someone would post a screenshot of that GLBSE chart.. submit this to my contest!

Re-posting from other threads:

But yeah that is only 1 key part of what pirate was doing IMO.

No I do not have a copy of his books but I still do not think he is running a ponzi.

Even if he takes the money and runs I think he did it cuz he wanted the money not cuz ponzi...

Now what if he manipulated or stabilized the Gox price while making trades. Like Lower when buying and higher when selling...

No way he could make a profit here... Must be a ponzi...

..[snip]..
Pirate never really told me what he was doing but I felt I had a good grasp of what was going on.  The dip in and out of two transactions could make 10% pretty easy (5% on both sides, sometimes much more than that) so 7% actually seemed fair.
There is a small bit more, but pretty much my understanding.

Also, you can see how hard it would be to unwind this.

Keep dreaming!

BTCST was a short-term business that had to end, but GPUMax is the real deal. It's a miner wet dream.

What's so great about GPUMax exactly? Other than inspiring your wet dreams..

...mmm...Brunic, do you actually know what pirate was doing to legitimately earn 7%/week, or do you just have a theory?

It's the "unofficial" theory I could say. I can't say I know, since I'm only a small part of his business, I can only suppose.

But this theory is a great business model IMHO. If I had the resources and the customers, don't worry, I would not be losing my time on this forum trying to explain it.

I think many here are so invested in the "ponzi proposition" that they're refusing to consider other possibilities.

...

Ponzi or not, there's no legal activity that I can think of that would allow paying such returns for any length of time.
We all did exactly what you just did. We considered it, and then rejected it as completely implausible.

But even so, it doesn't matter. If something is indistinguishable from a Ponzi, and most likely a Ponzi, you should treat it like a Ponzi. If you have a gun that looks like it's loaded, you should probably treat it like it's loaded.

Duck fallacy!

You are telling me you have no evidence it is a ponzi...  If you have it, and posted it somewhere please just copy and paste it here or link it.

You guys are asking me to prove it is not a ponzi but I think it is about time you guys prove it is...

Why hasn't anybody set up a Dank Bank Pass Through security on the GLBSE yet? Now that there is no Pirate, the 3% dank is offering seems pretty good !!! Maybe you could just reuse the PPTs as DBPTs?

Ok, I need to provide an unequivocal response - I will not be running a DankBank-PPT.

May I ask, why not?
