Especially crashing.  Having a problem where guininer is invisible right now in fact. Tongue

If I go with the msi I needs a new case for it though.  I have it in an antec armor but its about done it was pretty beat up when I got it and I almost think the back-plate is no longer square on it which drives me nuts. Also all the pcie are right next to each other which means risers-only for 4way anyway.  I am not too worried about headaches with crossfire, (I had a 7990 and decided to trade it off) I plan on having at least one redundant system.  I probably will just end up with 3 gaming systems total.

As to the minecraft Saintdevil--sounds fun.  I'd love to have a "house" to invite my friends over to, but I don't think I can commit to maintaining a server for it.  My friend had one all set up at his parents, (so they could play lol) but his stuff got stolen so he took the server down to use as a desktop and we don't have that anymore.
343  Bitcoin / Mining support / Guiminer is invisible (Solution inside!) on: October 26, 2012, 08:08:55 PM
Installed msi afterburner on a computer and now my guiminer window won't come up.  I can reduce it and see it on my taskbar (win7) but it never goes to actually be on my screen.

What is this problem?

Deleted guiminer and reextracted, no fix so its got to be a config file bug for it...?
344  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I really need some help with ubuntu.. on: October 26, 2012, 07:47:44 PM
Again, can't help with part of your questions but maybe some.  I have little experience with what Deafboy recommended, but I see why you would want that for security purposes.

To install on ubuntu linux is a bit of a paradigm shift from windows.  For one thing, any "software" that is fairly run of he mill can be acquired quickly through the synaptic package program, (just run an internet search to see what you want first the descriptions can be fairly short) other bits and pieces or programs have to be downloaded, unpacked and then typically (with any luck) you can go from there.  Sometimes though you have to use the command line and then its super important to follow instructions explicitly.

Actually installing ubuntu gives you a bit of a feel for how it works which is why I typically recommend doing so...

LOL, so true.

I've had successful deals with Trader Joe in the past, he's a trustworthy dude

Well maybe so, but the point is with a clean chunk of change like $760 how do we know values *won't* shift?

In addition, I think its been fairly well proven most successful scams don't come out of no-where as well.  There is some momentum and buildup involved.

346  Other / Off-topic / Video Game System Advice--What do you recommend I try? on: October 26, 2012, 07:38:45 PM
So I want to try playing some video games, I'm almost at the point where I will have spare time so its now time to plan!

Options: PCs

I have an msi board which will do quad crossfire, this has a 1090t in it now.
I have an asus board which will do 2x crossfire, with the 8120 processor in it.
I am looking at buying a socket 1356 i5 system which I believe will do 2x crossfire as well
I also have a socket fm1 llano pc
And finally I have several fairly good for their time gaming boards that are socket 775 (to consider all options)
Not really interested in building/buying anything else anytime soon.

Options: GPUs

I have 4x 5870 cards of various makes (or will fairly soon)
I have a matched pair of 6950
I have maybe 6-10 5770 cards
Oddballs like a 5570 (to consider all options again)
Always looking for new video cards, probably no nvidia however.

What would you guys say would be the strongest setup?  I want to play eve online, minecraft, maybe some first person shooters, as well as of course, whatever I find cheaply on steam.

Yeah 420 I totally agree those categories would help.  But complaining about a lack of subforum categories and then not using them seems a bit--off.  Tongue
348  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 11 Intel Mystery Motherboards +other socket 775 (for mining, etc) on: October 26, 2012, 06:55:32 PM
Trying to find info is like pulling teeth lol!  It looks a bit bare but its actually fully featured and the spacing on the pci express for video cards is better than 90% of board I usually find.
349  Economy / Computer hardware / 6 Intel Bad Axe 2 (5.5 bitcoins shipped to US) +other socket 775 on: October 26, 2012, 06:46:02 PM
MOTHERBOARDS

Intel Motherboard D975X BX2  Intel Bad Axe 2       (5.5 bitcoins shipped in US.)

I originally called these mystery motherboards because it was not too clear exactly what the real "name" of this motherboard is, I believe I have found a spec sheet of sorts here:

http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/whql_mlp_d975xbx2_d53347.pdf

Here is a photo:

What I know about these:

Socket 775 (Accepts Core 2 duo, Core 2 Quad, Pentium Dual Core)
4x DDR2 667 and 800 mhz speed
4 Sata Ports
3 PCI-express full length card slots
2 PCI slots

From what I can read crossfire is possible between the top pcie either @ x16 and x1, or x8 and x8, and no matter what the third slot is x4 speed.

What I can tell you from personal experience is that I put three 5770 cards on the board with no risers for one mining machine, and I have one with a core 2 quad q6700 8gb of ram (4x2gb) and windows 7--I also plugged a usb3 pcie mini card into the third pcie "video" slot and it works, I guess people do this all the time but it was a first for me, lol!

I also read that these are a "stripped down" version of another board with a sata raid controller.  I wouldn't doubt it it is hard to find info on it, but they work great!  I should also have either a 2ghz or 2.1 ghz core 2 duo, or pentium dual core along with a coverplate for the i/o on the back of the motherboard for each available.

Infinity Dark P965     (9 bitcoins shipped in US, also a socket 775 but fsb is 1333 capable with 2 full pcie and 2 short, they look like x1 to me )

1 ram plastic lock down thing is missing unfortunately from the infinity board but it hasn't given me any problems I have been able to properly seat ram without it...

CPUs

Core 2 duo 2ghz
Core 2 duo 2.4ghz
Pentium Dual Core 1.8 ghz

RAM

Some DDR2, will check
12 or so 667 ecc ddr2 modules
6 or so 1gb 800 mhz ddr2
Various 512mb modules
4 256mb of 533 (lol)

So thats what I've got!  I bought all the same type motherboards together from someone locally who upgraded a whole bunch of workstations and apart from my checking one or two out for specs, and an odd sale here or there they not been touched since I acquired them.  The other couple motherboards are mainly from desktops that I wanted the cases for or that I was planning on mining with and haven't yet.  Feel free to post or pm with questions about the stuff listed here.  I *don't* know exactly what I want for each so please feel free make an offer on what you can use.  I'd be interested in bitcoin, local wa transactions possibly, or even trades for other pc parts.  I plan on continuing to mine so if you are changing up your gameplan I might be interested in gpus (or ?) that you are not.

**edits** Changed things as it seemed prudent to do so, also added non-negotiable motherboard prices in bitcoins.

351  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I really need some help with ubuntu.. on: October 26, 2012, 06:01:36 PM
Why would that be better/easier for op?
352  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I really need some help with ubuntu.. on: October 26, 2012, 05:35:37 PM
Hey I don't have a lot of experience with mining on ubuntu, but I do have a lot of experience with ubuntu itself.  My advice would be to just install ubuntu onto a flash drive (8gb is just fine) that is new or close to it.  You will get user interface at almost adequate speeds with one of these, not as good as a hard drive and only slightly as annoying as running from a  cd.

My suggestion would be to use ubuntu 10.04 live cd, select "install" and then select the flash drive as the install location.  If you do this you will be able to save your work, if you try to run off a live cd all the time saving your programs and settingd becomes more difficult.  not impossible--just more difficult.

Fairly certain what Simran is implying is that there was no proof there were cards at all.  (op posted pics after the Spanish inquisition began.)

Are you this abysmal at everything you do?

**edit**

Thread with the motherboard info's title is below!

I do not condone gay bashing.

You just do it?  What is your purpose on being on these forums?

357  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Semi-passively looking for 775 socket t cpu Core 2 Duo, Quad, Dual Pentium on: October 25, 2012, 11:14:19 PM
$30 Each!  What a deal! To further explain though to those that need to know--I give them away typically just to show that a computer works or is running.  I'm not really looking for those (as explained above) so you are only here to troll.  I'm not devastated by your surprisingly predictable behavior.    I think I'll refrain from your little-girl tendency to lock the thread down and run away though.

Maybe later this evening I will have a "for sale" thread with specifics on the motherboards I referred too above.
358  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AMD Layoffs on: October 25, 2012, 11:05:04 PM
A personal computer yes, thank you craigslist.  Not really that old either I think there is even good corsair ram in in it.  I am (hopefully) buying an i5 with a sabertooth saturday for basically the same price...  We will see how it goes.  When you consider that I spent ~ twice that on my llano computer it gets a bit depressing lol!
359  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AMD Layoffs on: October 25, 2012, 09:34:46 PM
I bought a whole system with 8120, 2 x1 terabyte drives, ssd, windows, full corsair tower, gtx460, and an asus sabertooth motherboard for $600.  It was almost exactly what I would have built myself for about half the cost.  I am really happy with the sabertooth board speaking of which and want to buy the intel chip equivalent when I get the $$$.
