I use BTC-E for all my trading of Alt coins.   I have never had a problem (knock on wood), with any deposits, trades, or withdrawals.   I have done several transactions with BTC, LTC, and NMC, so I can vouch for at least those 3 going smoothly.

The only problem is that it is pretty difficult to get USD onto the website.   Each time I have resorted to buying BTC on coinbase.com and then sending it over to BTC-E.  The downside of doing that is that you get hit with the 1% fee on coinbase, and then the USD/BTC is usually lower on BTC-E than on coinbase, so you get skimmed a little off the top right there too...

You withdraw fiat from btce?? I've always sent to stamp for that. Which method do you use and how is it like?
3402  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: January 09, 2014, 03:23:26 AM
Do any of you guys who only use "10% of coins for trading and 90% in cold storage" or whatever the ratio is find it frustrating every time you double up the 10% but missed the opportunity to double up the rest of the 90%? If I did such a thing it would feel like a huge loss to me.
3403  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2014, 03:16:43 AM
Fiat will always pile up on Mt.Gox because you can't withdraw.  The surplus of fiat is no surprise.  What makes Mt. Gox bullish is the lack of coins on offer.  The coins are on stamp, btce, bfx, or in china.
Yes I agree. The bid depth on gox is much less significant now that you cannot withdraw. The fact that there are $35M bids there now (up from $22M in april), means that in the past 9 months at least $13M has been deposited there. That is it. Meanwhile with the bid at stamp growing from $1M to $21M, it means that at least $20M has been deposited but probably MUCH MORE if you count WITHDRAWALS - it could be more like $200M has been deposited at stamp. All of these services including coinbase, ATMs, and bitfinex interface with stamp and I think bitfiex alone probably has to do this biweekly batch transfer of millions of dollars to stamp.

It seems that right now many us of believe that the volume and depth on exchanges doesn't matter anymore because the big trading is being done by whales and firms off of exchanges. Or at least the market is being fueled by the impression or the rumor of such.

In this thread, please post any evidence or proof you find of confirmed whale trades and perhaps standing offers to buy or sell large amounts of coins. You can also post any evidence of what the whale intends to do with their coins (hodl or dump).

They have increased but not enough. The btc amount local to the price is very low. High volume would eat through all these bids like butter.

The real reason for the current price can be found on the ASK side.

Hey Bitcoin gods. I'm doing the longest time thing and all. But I'd like to get filthy rich tonight, so would you mind hurrying up Grin

You'll have to w8 a bit , the guys in rpietila lounge are talking about a drop to 500 =))))

The girls aren't though.  Grin  I don't think we will ever see 500 again!  Even BitChicksHusband thinks I am overly bullish and a little too exuberant at times so keep that in mind.  I could be totally wrong.
It would be really easy to see 500- again if something else happens in china and huobi starts going down or the Chinese exchanges get shut down. Basically all the exchanges are still slaves to the huobi manipulation and without it there is no real support. The order books and volume are a joke - so tiny compared to earlier last year before china. We have trained our eyes to see 1,000 order in the way that we used to see a 10,000 order. When the shit really hits the fan in china then its game on.

In my opinion, it would be highly useful to launch a campaign to position bitcoin as the competition for Western Union.  Since bitcoin can and is likely to eat Western Union's lunch; we should approach them.  Either they can adopt bitcoin and survive and thrive *or* enter a phase of decline.  Who speaks for bitcoin?  It seems unreasonable to trust Western Union will figure this out on their own.
The advantage of western union is anyone can walk in with their fiat and send money, and they also don't need to understand anything about how it works. Btc cannot possibly replace WU on its own because it does not transmit fiat. In order for btc to function as WU you also need to integrate some kind of fiat/btc exchange service. Even in this case btc is not replacing WU but only part of a system that like WU and it also likely to be too much for the average user to bother with.

Something going on with Huobi's volume, or lack thereof. In other news, which I'm sure is unrelated, BTCe experienced a huge uptick in volume. Discussion here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=404961
This happens when shit happens in China and the Chinese pump manipulation enchantment is broken - price falls until it approaches support levels on real exchanges indicated by an increasing volume on the real exchanges .
3409  Economy / Speculation / Re: Downtrend started? on: January 08, 2014, 07:47:22 PM
What it is this new attitude that btc is like a stock and only responds to news events? In the past years, btc would move plenty on its own and we didnt need news - we just used TA. Sometimes businesses and users just have a bunch of coins they need to unload to retrieve fiat or pay invoices. It is a transactional currency that is used for business and not just speculation, and even many of the speculators are following TA or their own needs and whims - not news.
3410  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc-e now has the biggest daily volume on: January 08, 2014, 07:37:12 PM
BTCe volume is about as real as that on Houbi.

Side note: Anyone else find it interesting that BTCe's trade engine can handle such extraordinary volume, not just bitcoin but all the alts too, without significant lag? Hmm...
I don't think its fake, just a lot of bots in play and the fee is low compared to other exchanges. I've been able to do large trades there just fine. As for the speed, I always thought it was the vodka-powered Russian engineering. It really is a great platform to use. When the shit is hitting the fan(high volume), you can count on btce to run like a well-oiled Russian nuclear war machine while all the other exchanges crap out.
3411  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc-e now has the biggest daily volume on: January 08, 2014, 07:29:23 PM
Btce users will point out a 100btc trade on gox while ignoring the 1000btc trade that just happened at the same time on their own exchange.

I think I'll stick with the whale temple.
3414  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: January 08, 2014, 07:31:46 AM
There are 11,012 users logged onto btce right now.
3415  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Whale Temple on: January 08, 2014, 07:07:43 AM
So my call is being answered by the FBI whale?(or at least panic about an FBI whale)  Shocked I never imagined.
3416  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 08, 2014, 06:37:16 AM
Does anybody want to sell at these prices?

Miners who do not keep all their coins, panic sellers, market manipulators, and the occasional great whales who wants to lock in USD profits at these higher price levels (and must do so slowly).  Non-great-whale bitcoin investors who follow a disciplined divestment schedule have already sold.

Traders who play 4 hour charts.

Just funded my bitstamp account from USA for first time.  Wire arrived in 3 days.  Significantly faster than mt Gox. Will be interested in comparing withdrawal times. Still awaiting funds from mt gox withdrawal on 12/26.

Stamps great. In fast, out fast.
Time for me to take another big withdrawal from stamp. Usually takes about 3 business days.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1uohe5/new_years_greeting_from_btc_china/

read the part on market makers...in relation to the trading fees going back to people opposed to the exchange

I am not fully understanding what qualifies you for a rebate.. but gee.. a lil counter to taobao negative sentiment.
The trollbox is going nuts about this news. I dont understand why:

Vouchers - old news

Modified fee structure - means what, the manipulators can play again?

Reduced withdrawal fee - irrelevant, maybe even bad news.

Why does it seem like btce is the market leader today?
3420  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 08, 2014, 02:42:53 AM
I fucking love BTC-E. Gox rises 8%, BTC-E rises 17%. So money.
You never know whether it'll be btce or stamp with the crazy trading. It can be either one.
