3421  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 17, 2015, 04:22:15 AM
This seems like a very good device. The way you described it and the video almost persuaded to buy it. That is when I encountered a problem, the price. Almost $250 is a very steep price to be paying.

I could juts buy a Trezor for around $100. Much cheaper and they both do the job.

And Trezor has been mentioned a lot.  It was based on their code so you will see a lot of similarities.  That is why you see so many similarities.  Keepkey benefited from Trezor doing R/D and testing.  Then keep key customized that code for their wallet.

I wish I could take credit for the video's but they are KeepKey's, I just linked to them as I really thought they did a good job.  And I'm just putting this out there as a review so there is info out there.  I make 0 dollars if you buy one or don't.  I have no deals where if my guide sells one I get X amount.  That is why on all of my guides you will see it linked to proper seller, no short-link tricks, or referral tricks.

Also added to second post about me not making money if they sell ton's or none.  I think that is something important that was not mentioned.
3422  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 17, 2015, 04:05:44 AM
Nice review! Thanks for doing this! I still do prefer my Trezor though!

Nevertheless more options we have it's better and competition from all of the sides is what will push us into the progress that will propel the Bitcoin technology upwards!

Thank you! And honestly I appreciate all feedback about all hardware wallets.  Telling me your wallet/favorite features of your hardware wallet you have really is great info!

So thanks again to all who have shared.

hardware wallets have their advantages. id say security wise its on par with paper wallet, because its only secure while its not connected to the internet.

so in a rough visual
using third party websites (exchanges/wallets/banks) is <50% safe
using full node is 80% safe
paperwallet/hardware wallets are 90% safe

but still dont advertise them as the hack-proof, fool-proof, indestructible way to use bitcoins.

when a hardware wallet eventually comes with software that is locked inside the device with an autorun ability on plug in, thus not requiring any downloads or computer resource (no extensions) then the safety can be increased to more than 90%.
but until then be careful with any alert to update/replace browser extensions. especially if the resulting update suddenly asks for the seed

You can also use a regular wallet and not browser extension though.  I'm using MultiBit HD.  I think that get's rid of the risk of browser things you mention, but I could be wrong.  Please let me know if I am.  I think keeping key and signing on device with a wallet like MultiBit HD is hard to beat on security.

But you are right the makers do say "It now becomes nearly impossible for virtual attackers like malware or viruses to steal your valuable bitcoins." So they say nearly incase something does come out that can defeat it... it should not happen but your right there is no 100 percent.  But still much better then a lot of options out there.

I'm just going off what they are advertised as i think this "KeepKey works with the bitcoin wallet software on your computer by taking over the management of private key generation, private key storage, and transaction signing." is pretty strong security.  And remember it's actually based on Trezor so they did a lot of R/D and testing for security.
3423  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New startup with 250k, what should I invest in? on: December 17, 2015, 03:50:17 AM
Depends on your electricity rate, if you already have a datacenter-like setup to place the miners in, etc. Maybe give us more details on your situation?

You can't buy knowledge. Spend a few dozen hours educating yourself before you proceed with your venture.

I'd sell my knowledge Tongue Consultants and specialists get paid for it all the time. Of course, this is a lot of money to entrust into some dude on the internet.

Trust me it never works out.  I have had 3-4 of these start ups that come to me though PM and ask about a start-up and want info.  Almost all it is not cash they have but cash they are asking if they had.

The first one I thought what do I have to lose? Anwser is time... so many questions and in the end no pay as it stay's in planning.   The other ones I have gauged seriousness and they just were not even up to par.

I suggest anyone thinking this is a great idea to advise... skip it unless they are paying up front.   And honestly it's better they research it on their on as they will learn so much more then giving certain answers.  Being a knowledgeable investor is important
3424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining at VPS on: December 17, 2015, 02:28:57 AM
You can't profit with mining btc with mediocre specs. The most you need to spend to actually mine would be around 10k of equipment.

I don't think you realize what VPS is... you can have a MASSIVE system as you build a virtual machine.  So you might have 16 or 32 even cores of CPU.  But it's not cheap.

And CPU mining just is so small in reward you lose money.  But spec is not a issue with VPS's.
3425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [OPEN] Official FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt Stick Order Thread on: December 17, 2015, 02:25:37 AM

3426  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 17, 2015, 02:22:34 AM
Why risk the warranty and try that?  Our PI controller can already control multiple units via the Daisy chain.

And it is one of the nicest warranty's out there.  I thought don't know if we mentioned it in a while.  So a lot might have missed it. BlockC -  http://www.blockc.co/pages/warranty-agreement

A. If still within the Warranty Period, Avalon Manufacturer’s Warranty will transfer to the buyer, upon equipment resale provided that the buyer contacts Avalon or BlockC.co to register as the new equipment owner.
B. In order to receive Manufacturer’s Warranty coverage, you must notify Reseller with your contact information, the equipment you are operating, and a description of your operating environment.

So 90 day warranty can be transferred to new owner just need to notify them.   Which is great to that if sold another owner can have that warranty.

As a heads-up, I have one of these coming in this week! I'm looking forward to giving it a try, Smiley. Compared to the others it's beyond beautiful -- hoping it looks just as beautiful in real life.
I have reallly enjoyed using a hardware wallet.  I plan on trying more.   I think you will really like it.

The security they provide is just pretty amazing.  I really was very big paper supporter but I'm starting to turn to hardware the more and more I use one.

What drew me into it was the look. It's modern. And unlike paper, which is easy to lose/get destroyed, it's an actual device. It just overall gives me that bigger sense of security. Not to mention paper won't help you if you input your private key on a compromised system later.

I think we will see more go from paper to hardware.    I really do after testing it.

Just so much nicer then keeping paper at safety deposit box.  Now just my recovery seed needs to stay there and I can have this in a decent safe.  Fell a lot safer with it at home then I did with paper.
3428  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Next Generation ASIC's - How do we recycle the past? on: December 17, 2015, 01:54:12 AM
With the halving upon the horizon, every ASIC manufacturer from Avalon to Zeus will have produced a great deal of hardware that has achieved "legacy" status. The question being posed is this; what happens when all utility from these machines lost? Take for example the Antminer S1, "the staple of the home miner" is how BITMAIN described the S1 and they were right... for the time. Currently the S1 only has utility to those that DIY and make custom solutions with the blades, or to those that want to mine for a incredibly small amount of BTC and use the unit for a heating source. As of today's date a S1 will make about 0.004 a week. In year or two, I don't think it would be unreasonable to assume that the utility of these devices will be rapidly approaching those of a USB stick miner today.

So the question is this; just what the hell do we we do with all of this old mining equipment? S1's can be had for 20-$30 shipped to your door now, people are basically selling them at a loss just to get rid of them. What happens this time next year? Do they just wind up in the dump because nobody wants them? The Atari 2600 can still play games, a 386 PC can still run applications that wont work on newer hardware, the miners of today on the same timeline....

Do you think ASIC manufactures should potentially begin a recycling process with their products? Apple will recycle their products free of charge as well many other  tech companies today. We've seen USB miners made from recycled parts, why not create more? Maybe offer a slight discount / loyalty program and send in your outdated hardware and receive a discount on the newest models? What are your opinions? Thanks for reading!

Thats a good question / statement.  It would be nice to see Bitmain take some S3's that are becoming more and more power hogs everyday, and to be able to get credit towards say an S7 miner.  But they still sell right now for about $150 via eBay but by the time halving comes theyll drop dramatically.

My suggestion: Sell them now, and keep a few or one for the history books to show your kids / grandchildren.

My suggestion is close sell all to lower or free electricity once it's close to not being profitable.  With this you gain some more money invest right back into BTC with that money.

I don't suggest keeping one for history unless it's special.  Sell them all you can buy one in 2-3 years for much cheaper and have the history then if you want, again that is if not special miner with limited run.

But then you later can buy new miners or just hold.  Option is yours and it is very good and helps add to ROI.
3429  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best Mining Hardware on: December 17, 2015, 01:48:56 AM
just a question the big mining farms are making millions. Why is that so when small farms struggle to break even?

Also bno body answered yet. Can I connect remotely from another country?

Read above my post about teamviewer.  With it you can connect anywhere with internet to the pc with it on it if set for that.

You will be able to connect to it over internet.  So the key there is having internet and a PC at home.
3430  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: NEW WANNABE MINER FROM INDIA , HELP NEEDED on: December 17, 2015, 01:45:55 AM
What is your electricity price? I'm unfamiliar with India's price on it.

If cheap like VirosaGITS you stand a good chance at mining.  But if high you might look into hosting center's or other options.
3431  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks closed. on: December 17, 2015, 01:42:09 AM
11.1% day today.

Not good but not bad either.

Sad but that seems pretty great right now.  I would settle for 11 over the near 20.  Near 20 really does scare me.

Btc still on a slow slide its around 450 so not bad.  But 460 was nicer.
3432  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn Bitcoins fast and free?? on: December 16, 2015, 06:59:21 PM
If you want both, you must go hard work for it just like real life.

There's no shortcut to success

since OP didn't specify how much BTC he wants, I'd say faucet. you can bitcoins in one click.

seriously though, most of the time free and fast are not worth it.

Faucet is good for newbie. So at least, people know how to trade with bitcoin

Faucets are good for no one.  Spending hours to get cents?   It is not good no matter what rank you are.

There are so much better things they could use time for.  So many say they are good for newbie... but it will be dust in wallet.

why dust?
with faucetbox you can limit the dust or even cancel it.
what is dust for you? 0.5BTC ? or till more?

You are trolling me as I have disagreed with you on your investment considering U2 cloud mining.  You know what dust is.

But yes you can use faucetbox... but it's not going to speed up time to get that money.   And serously 1/2 bitcoin from faucet?  Have you ever seen that now day's come on stop trolling me.

Dust is small payments worth less then a cent.  Were talking about a bunch of tiny deposits that don't add up to much and are dust.

I do not write here in relation about agreements or desagreements...(i have even forgotten that I talked already with you)
I know what dust is...it is why I know that if you go through faucetbox or xapo you can avoid dust.
it is why the relation dust and faucets is avoidable easily and not an argument to say that faucets produce dust.

Most make so small it still is dust.  I mean sure they can use one of those wallets... but it does not raise amount faucets pay.  Most get cent's per hour on faucets.

So since cents per hour unless someone has a ton of time and spends it on faucet.   Most don't do this as it is a horrible waste of time.  And you asking me if I consider dust .5 (or 1/2) btc was trolling.   You were looking for a disagreement with that.
3433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello everybody on: December 16, 2015, 06:54:25 PM
Hello! I wasn't much into bitcoin, or not at all, but lately I've been hearing lots about it from my friends and reading on the internet. So, here I am. Can you tell me some ways that I can earn bitcoin with? Thank you.

Hello,
I invite you to invest for free in my U2cloudmining system.
Yes it's free...and once you have accumulated a big amount of shares (for free) you will have an income for a long time.

Sorry, I've visited your website and I don't quite understand it very best. Can you tell me more or has someone used this before?

Avoid it read feedback.  But it is a site that thinks one U2 (I think it's one at least) is a cloud mining item.   I don't think that is cloud mining that is hardly any hash. They might not be being sold now.... but they were so does not really make it better.

But to each his own.  But most would avoid his site or his investments.
3434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [OPEN] Official FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt Stick Order Thread on: December 16, 2015, 06:45:07 PM
That heatsink looks larger than the compac heat sink, is this correct or am I misjudging it?

That heatsink is a prototype(24x24x50mm), I think its taller and less wide than the compaq's . The final production version will be 25x20x45mm, have 7 fins, and black anodized.

I just posted so people could see that it does exist and was not vaporware.  As mentioned it will change once into production.

Production should look pretty nice I think it was decided black PCB and if using black heatsink I could be a great look.
3435  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 16, 2015, 06:42:00 PM
I don't think it's worth the risk either on warranty.  If someone want's to try they are welcome to share results.  I can't think of good reason unless a controller went bad and you had 2 units.  But even if this happened I think most will ask for a controller from BlockC or Ehash.

But you would need longer cables or something to really make it work full time.  So daisy chain or multiple USB is what I would stick to.  As no doubt kills warranty opening it.   If you sent in a email and ask they might give you the anwser if anyone is really curious.
3436  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best Mining Hardware on: December 16, 2015, 06:38:58 PM
Here you could buy this product from Bitmain: https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201511170341298180m44675v0613
It has 4.73 TH/s  so it's around what your looking for but the PSU should be provided by you, it won't come by the actual Bitmain company so you should save some for that as well. It's one of the best products out there.

I was looking at that before thanks! So one question. What kind of user interface do that have?

Simple to use they have the standard bitmain GUI.  So easy to use not hard command line or anything.  So new/old miner can jump in and use it.

But it is pretty hard to beat them on price right now.   One mentioned PSU if you have 220/240 grab the server PSU off site aswell it's a good psu, and has enough PCIe for the S7.

Thanks for the info. It seams the manual is for windows however which I do not have right now. that is a shame. This means I will have to buy a lap top to contact it?

I only have Macs at the moment. Both on site and personal. What is the most simple equipment I can use to set the moneyr up?

Not at all you need to connect to it through IP.  So mac, linux, windows etc you can pretty easily connect via IP of the machine.

As far as being away look at temviewer.  It will allow you with a username connect to a computer you leave at the place of miner, can even connect via android or iphone.  And if it needed hard off/on your family could do it.
3437  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie wanting to get into mining. Needs help! on: December 16, 2015, 06:12:49 PM
Do not let me or anyone else push you into a company research it before investing.

Exactly.
One of the most valuable things to do when you are checking out new sites.
Research everything. Build your own opinion on services before you throw your money at them.

True. But you learn from mistakes even i was always paying attention, research things and stuff but got ricked off once from a site called hashprofit.com
I learned also from this ponzi cloud mining. You always loose so i just trade or gamble with my coins.

It's true there are a lot of crap sites.  Just total ponzi's yet some still buy at a couple.... I will never understand.  It could be they are too new or think they are to smart.  Or they trust calculators scam sites put up.

But I would feel awful if I pushed someone to cloud and it went up in air.  That is why I normally tell them to research it.  They will find the 2-3 good ones that is all there really is that I know of.  They can find it and this forces them to do research if they wanted to or not, so more educated.  After that they are good to invest if they want to, but I like them researching.
3438  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie here - which low budget miner to get? on: December 16, 2015, 06:09:20 PM
IF you can get your hands on some S3 ++ id buy them Smiley_ . notice i said S3 ++ not S3 +, i could have bought some over the summer but passed it up or saw it to late to buy at least two S3 ++, after, i noticed it said ++. now i can't get any in the US.

I think a few made it stateside.  But it was a very very few on S3 ++ your right on most not making it here to US was not offered on site to US.

They were an interesting Miner but not sure that is worth trying to find one. Efficiency will be marginally better than an S3, but if you want string power then better to just go for the S5 with the better BM1384 ASIC, which I think the S3++ was possibly a trial for?

Rich

If I were to guess I would guess it was a trial for internal as much as anything.   It was not really widespread as I think just China's site had it.   So guessing they wanted all the efficiency they could get.

I would agree with there are a TON of S3/S3+ that causes lower price and much easier to find then S3++.  And going up to S5 is not a bad idea that phil mentioned.  All kinda depends on electricity  which his is decent.  With difficulty going up though might be worth looking into S5 or other miners around it.
3439  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antpool? on: December 16, 2015, 02:52:52 PM
Hello,

i got some btc from a friend and i wanted to buy a bit hashing power on nicehash.
I want to mine in the antpool but i cant really find out how it works.
I have the Ips (there are 3 of them) and they put in in the example "antminer.1" but how do they pay me?
I have edited my account on the antpool with my btc adress but i cant add a worker only a "group".

Is it only possible to mine there with an antminer?

My antminer s3 is defect :/

Why would you want to rent hashrate at Nicehash at a premium, to then mine it on Antpool by paying a second premium, to mine some BTC back at a loss?

Like you could put in 1BTC and you might get 0.85BTC back. Whats the point?

Actually look at nicehash they have ran under price of BTC for quite a while.  They are no where as good as once was on profit. It currently paying -5 percent of BTC mining... so why anyone mines there I don't know.

But that with fee's there and pool fees in most cases you still lose money.   Most that do it and gain are the ones who solo mine and are lucky.  And some lose big with being unlucky.

Because it goes from -2% to -5% which is cheaper than PPS and is effectively PPS. But Nicehash also take 2% on in and 2% on out. Then Antpool has "no fee" but keep all the TX fee = it has fees.

So even at 100% luck you would lose out.

Antpool is 2.5 PPS fee so it's cheaper then the -5.  So I don't think it is really a good way if wanting consent payment.  You should use a true PPS pool.

Also read about firmware not all firmware works with them as great as they require a patch.  It's pretty big in FAQ there.  But I would avoid unless they start paying above again.

Great for renters, not great for miners there.
3440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to collect BTC ?? on: December 16, 2015, 02:48:59 PM
Please show proof of .40 centss in 5-10 minutes.  Most even "high paying" faucets don't pay this much.

It is very small payment.  Just is the way it is.

There are many faucets that pay upwards of 10-50 bits per claim, every 12-24h. Let's use 10 bits as an example. At the moment, $0.40 is 883 bits. That's 88.3 claims. It takes ~3s to load a page, 2s to find a captcha, and 10s to type it in and hit enter. That means you use 0.25 minutes for 10 bits. 883/10=88.3*0.25=~22 minutes. Factor in the ones that are above 10 bits and it's much, much faster.
Faucet paying 10-50 bits per claim?
Is there a faucet that pay much ?? It was very much at all, I ask faucets which one pays that much?
It was a very good recommendation

It is more then normal that is why I am asking for proof.  Do you have blockchain payment? Screenshot?

Even just site used?   I just think most earn far less then this faucets just don't pay well.
