3481  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passphrase of Death (Bounty in BTC) on: November 22, 2022, 09:51:57 AM
I had my recovery seed phrase, and I made a password list of what I could have possibly entered as a passphrase (the same list I used for BTCRecover but apparently my configurations came up short). The service I used was Dave's WalletRecoveryServices and he managed to unlock the wallet in just a few hours. So to sum it up: I really did enter a passphrase and I just didn't remember or write it down because I thought I could recall it from memory--it was really a facepalm moment when I received the password from Dave. It wasn't a typo of any sort.
Luckily, everything ended on a happy note this time. I am curious though. Since Dave managed to recover the passphrase rather quickly, was the string that you used anything similar to what you originally thought it could be? How different was the password compared to what you thought it was and what you submitted to Dave? Did it have any special characters, numbers, capital and lower case character combinations, etc. I would just like to know what can be brute forced within a few hours.
3482  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Genesis' crypto lending (Genesis Global Capital) halts withdrawals on: November 22, 2022, 08:39:24 AM
If we try to take an optimistic view, this will teach people to guard their own bitcoins, their own private keys...
How I wish that this was true. What I see from all this mess is that a minority will switch to self-custody solutions while others will say they tried Genesis, FTX, Celsius, etc., they all failed them, so it's now time to move their money into Binance, Coinbase, or KuCoin...

People should tell them FU and reject any tests with this new digital crap.
You are forgetting they will be enticed to take part with a $20 voucher for McDonalds with unlimited Coca Cola refills or something similar that they will gladly accept. It's all about bread and circuses.
3483  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: November 22, 2022, 07:45:13 AM
I saw my name mentioned in this thread by looking at my quotes and mentions with LoyceV's notification bot (this is not paid advertising), and I was certain I was mentioned because I was one of the winners. Turns out that's not the case. What a shame. Cheesy

In my mind, you're all women Cheesy I'm not talking to a bunch of guys. I know I'm just fooling myself, because There are no girls on the internet, but let me have this one Wink
Sure, whatever gets your blood pumping. Grin
3484  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger: get up to 30$ in free BTC. on: November 22, 2022, 07:37:59 AM
However,  there are still people who thinks that receiving their first btc is exciting and things like that. This is an interesting marketing.
It's also worth mentioning that the information shared by OmegaStarScream in the OP from Ledger's shop is somewhat different from what is written in the promo's T&C that I shared in my post. Under "How It Works" in this source, Ledger says:
Quote
Buy your chosen Ledger Nano with free BTC here on Ledger.com.

First of all, what the hell is free BTC? But if we forget about the word "free", the explanation makes it sound like you need to purchase your Nano only with Bitcoin and no other payment methods.

But in the T&C, there is no mention of having to purchase the devices with Bitcoin to be given a voucher.
Quote
By purchasing a Ledger Nano X or a Ledger Nano S Plus from Nov 21, 2022 to Nov 28, 2022 on Ledger.com, you will be able to benefit from the following Rewards:

The terms only mention the fact that you need to make a purchase without specifying any payment methods. Since T&Cs have priority over other sources of information, it should work for any and all purchases.

I agree 100% with you that doing kyc for 20 - 30 is not ok. Customers already did enough identification to receive the product at home, shipping address name etc... no need to give further documents which are useless for the bitcoin transaction
Additionally,  ledger does not handle sensitive data very well.
True. Still, the KYC verification (in case there is one) isn't done with Ledger, but with the 3rd-party service they use. Ledger is the connecting bridge between the user and the other company. It still makes no sense and is privacy invasive.
3485  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: November 21, 2022, 07:31:45 PM
But there is a small problem:
Did the servers not withstand the influx of new customers. It seems that against the backdrop of the latest events in the industry, HW device sellers will reap a very good "harvest".
Damn it. This must all be because of Ledger and their crappy partnership with FTX that is causing these problems with Trezor's website and servers. I am sure dkbit98 will fill us in. Pun intended. Wink
It wasn't working for me before either, but now it's up and running again.

I just checked and I can confirm they are selling the Trezor model T for 181$, not bad to be honest.
I guess that depends where you are in the world. If you want to ship it to a country in the EU, you are looking at prices of €220-€230. The price you see is probably without VAT (non-EU, Asian, American countries). You have to take that into consideration depending on how much VAT you are required to pay and how big the amount is that doesn't require paying any duties in your country.
3486  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger: get up to 30$ in free BTC. on: November 21, 2022, 07:19:43 PM
I was just about to create a thread about it, but you were faster this time.

The promotion is valid from 21 November until 28 November.

The gift cards can be redeemed through Ledger Live’s Discover program by following the instructions provided in the physical cards that are part of the shipped package. The coins can then be sent to a BTC address of your choice (it doesn’t have to be an addy in Ledger Live). More information can be found in the Black Friday T&C.

Anyone considering taking advantage of this promotion should know that the bitcoins are sent by a 3rd-party Ledger service provider. If this party determines a need to undergo KYC, the user might be required to verify their identity before receiving their coins.

If it weren’t for the possibility of being asked to undergo KYC, I would say this is an interesting offer. But I’m not too fond of it. I also don’t know if Ledger can demask users and connect the names from order data with the codes that get claimed. It would be easier if they offered a $20 and $30 discount on their respective hardware wallets. My guess is they didn’t care to think of something better. They have already said they are getting 7x more sales following the downfall of FTX, so I assume they have already filled their pockets plenty.
3487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can I send BTC from an address like bc1 to an legacy address (1 prefix) on: November 21, 2022, 02:14:22 PM
If you are unable to send from one address to another, likely you are using an exchange, an exchange that is not supporting sending to native segwit (bc1) addresses should be seen as useless.
It's unfortunately not just exchanges that are sometimes late with adding support for Native SegWit addresses, it's also crypto exchanges and similar centralized services. This is not the place to mention any names, nor is it important at this point, but a very popular casino that has been around for many years was still not supporting Bech32 addresses the last time I checked. And it's a site I am sure everyone who is into gambling has heard of.
3488  Economy / Services / Re: Safe Hardware Wallet Deliveries Via Amazon Lockers on: November 21, 2022, 01:20:47 PM
People were advised all the time to avoid third party and order directly from the factory shop where possible (since even from Amazon it seems to have happened to receive HW with seed already in, I will look for link, but I don't promise results) and this may be a problem for your business.
Maybe you are talking about this incident that involved a Ledger Nano S that was purchased from Amazon in the UK. The person who bought it, got a paper card already filled up with a 24-word seed. Not sure if the seed was also entered in the hardware wallet, but I am guessing it was.

I agree with what DdmrDdmr said in the OP. This can be a device that was tempered with by someone at Amazon, or it could be a hardware wallet that was bought by a different person altogether. It was that other person that set it up, wrote down the seed words, and then returned the device back to Amazon for whatever reason. The personnel who received it had no idea what they were doing, they just checked the contents quickly, noticed that everything seemed to be OK, and placed the package among the other ones waiting to be sold.
3489  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: November 21, 2022, 01:00:28 PM
Apparently, you can get the Trezor One model for under 50$ but so far, I don't see anything. Maybe they released the blog article before applying the discounts.
Yeah the Black Friday deals haven't gone live yet. There is a paragraph under the first image in the blog post that says the prices on the Trezor shop will be updated in the next couple of hours.
A Trezor One for below 50$ is an excellent deal if you ask me. Let's see if the Trezor T will go below $200 with a discount...
3490  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passphrase of Death (Bounty 4 BTC) on: November 21, 2022, 10:09:31 AM
The first is you set a passphrase and do not remember doing so. A passphrase can be any combination of letters, numbers, or symbols. Perhaps you mistakenly thought you were setting a password for your Trezor Suite software. You could try any common passwords you frequently use, or you could also just try " " (i.e. a space) in case you did something like this by mistake.
I like this, and it's entirely possible that someone not that familiar with the terminology could mistake a passphrase for a password that protects access to the software. OP even said he didn't know about passphrases at the time of the setup and only found out about them by doing research for the issues he is currently experiencing.

Trying out common passwords you usually set (assuming you are using the same or similar password combinations) might help. What would happen if he started the passphrase generation, noticed something was off, but added a passphrase by mistake without entering a single character? Is that even doable?
3491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: To coinjoin or not? on: November 21, 2022, 09:54:46 AM
I'm trying to decide whether I should coinjoin my coins or not. All coins are from kyc exchange and have been in cold storage a while.
It depends. What are you planning to do with these coins in the future? Since you have already done KYC, the exchange already knows who you are and how much bitcoin you have in your address/addresses. If you are planning to send the same coins to the same exchange at one point in the future, I don't see the need for a coinjoin. If the coins will be used for other purchases or everyday spending, it makes sense to break the link and start fresh. I repeat, will the coins go back to the same exchange in the future to be swapped for fiat or some other crypto when you are happy with your profit?

At this time there is no benefit in doing it or not doing it, since nearly all exchanges will accept any coins.
Several centralized exchanges have frozen withdrawals of their clients in the past after discovering that their coins have gone through mixers or coinjoin protocols. So it's safe to say they don't like it, and we will probably see more of the same.
3492  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passphrase of Death (Bounty 4 BTC) on: November 21, 2022, 09:45:18 AM
I am a bit confused when you say you used change addresses. Did you transfer your coins to normal receiving addresses on your Trezor or to change addresses? It's the first time I hear about change addresses being displayed on a Trezor or Ledger software. You can see them in Electrum, but not in the native hardware wallet apps if I am not mistaken.

Maybe your firmware update messed something up. Again, I am unfamiliar with the workings of a Trezor and the "check seed phrase feature", but since you are certain you have the correct seed written down in multiple places, you could try to uninstall and reinstall the Trezor Suite and reset your hardware wallet to factory settings. After that, use the backup from seed feature, enter the correct seed, and see if that will bring everything back to normal.
3493  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passphrase of Death (Bounty 4 BTC) on: November 21, 2022, 09:24:40 AM
I'm basing off of the TX IDs I have from the hot wallet I was using to transfer funds from, and the receiving addresses all start with bc1q. So, I guess that means it's really the hidden feature?
No, you can't make that conclusion. Answer my questions from the previous post and tell the entire story please. A passphrase creates a totally different set of addresses, which would require you to move your coins from your non-passphrase protected addresses to the new passphrase-protected ones. Therefore, it can't be that you transferred your coins to a standard BTC address and then all of a sudden the coins went from there into a passphrase-protected addy or the software asks you for a passphrase. Unless there is a horrible bug we haven't seen or heard about before.

I am not a Trezor user, but I am pretty sure that the software isn't going to tell you: hey, you have a passphrase-protected account. Can you please enter your passphrase now! How did you reach the conclusion that it's a problem with passphrases and not something else?
3494  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passphrase of Death (Bounty 4 BTC) on: November 21, 2022, 09:02:18 AM
Try to provide more information first.

So you have a Trezor Model T. You set up your HW, generated a seed, and sent bitcoins to one of its addresses. Is it correct so far?
Have you checked and confirmed that the address on your computer is correct and matches the one displayed on your hardware wallet?

What happened next?
Did you try to recover your wallet from seed and when you did the wallet was empty?
If the wallet is empty, does it show any transaction history? If you check on a block explorer, are the coins still in the address you sent them to?

How do you know that a passphrase is required?
Have you written down your seed properly and you are 100% certain of the words? Is it possible that you misspelled something?
3495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: unconfirmed transaction....need help on: November 21, 2022, 08:15:34 AM
People worry too much if they don't see a quick confirmation and start to panic for no reason. Your bitcoins won't just magically disappear and end up in a hole with no bottom. That's especially the case if you are sending coins to yourself from Wallet A to Wallet B, and/or you don't need the funds urgently. Just let the mempools empty out and go about your everyday business.

The thing you should focus on OP is getting rid of that horrible and awfully created online wallet and get a good and functional one like Electrum, for example. If you had used a wallet with advanced coin control features, you could have taken advantage of its RBF or CPFP option and there would be no need for this thread. It's never too late to better yourself though.
3496  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: November 21, 2022, 07:40:43 AM

We have 2x Full Member positions open, apply now!
3497  Economy / Gambling / Re: List of casinos with free giveaway/pool for World Cup Football on: November 21, 2022, 07:29:26 AM
Betfury also has an event with free entry for this World Cup, the prize is in the form of BFG tokens and there will be 50 winners with a total prize of $5,000, the first winner will get $1,000.
I just checked the rules, and this competition by BetFury fulfills the requirements to be listed in the OP. Everyone is allowed to participate and players don't need to submit any wagers to take part in the promotion.

It's also a bit different compared to the one that FortuneJack organized, for example. On FJ, you had to make your predictions before the start of the 1st match of the World Cup (which was yesterday). But with BetFury, you can predict the outcome of each match until that particular game kicks off. That allows you to take a look at the lineups before submitting your entries. So, new players can join the event throughout the whole World Cup.
3498  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Can you ask for a refund of the money deposited in FTX from your bank ? on: November 20, 2022, 05:38:16 PM
The users can claim he has been a victim of carding, and say hi didn't made that transaction...
It surely isn't that easy, and the bank would have to confirm that information with your credit card issuer. I am not sure what data about credit card transactions gets logged in their systems, but IP addresses and digital fingerprints are probably part of the log. One could scream they were a victim of carding if suspicious card activity was recorded on the different side of the globe with a completely new device. But if it's the same IP range that's been used for years and from the same devices, they will find out you are lying.
3499  Economy / Gambling / Re: List of casinos with free giveaway/pool for World Cup Football on: November 20, 2022, 04:44:03 PM
Imagine you won $250k.
Privacy or $250k which one? :-P
Considering that I never registered on the site (I did take part in FortuneJack's promotion) and didn't submit any type of information to be able to participate, I won't have to answer that question. Grin But it's certainly a life-changing amount of money no matter where you live. If I won, I would make some basic research about LynxBetSuper7 because I never heard of that bookie until you mentioned it in this thread, and unless I found any red flags, I would undergo KYC and get my winnings.
3500  Other / Meta / Re: Allow buying pinned posts in marketplace on: November 20, 2022, 01:54:50 PM
That's no longer possible.
There are exceptions as theymos explained in the post you quoted above especially if it's a service the admin knows about from previous advertising rounds. I am sure theymos will scrutinize it to check if it fulfills the requirements he has in his head before allowing it. The offer also needs to be high enough, and I doubt many private sellers will want to offer loads of money for new advertising space.
