3481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: November 24, 2013, 12:19:42 AM
I could probably add encryption to the wallet.

How difficult would that be and how much would you expect.  As of right now I only have total commitments for 15,000 ixCoin.  It's sad to have to pay for this ourselves when there is a premine sitting there, supposedly allocated for such works.

We would all really appreciate encryption.  I don't care much about the other upgrades, but encryption is absolutely necessary.

Not completely sure. I'd have to take a look at the code and see. The most annoying part would probably be prompting the user for the password everywhere it's necessary, adding the actual encryption code should be easy. I'm good with C, but not so much with Qt.

Well, this is already done for Bitcoin so can't it be copied and pasted and then add the few necessary changes?  Afterall, ixCoin is an identical clone of Bitcoin, just the block size and the faster maturity differs.

Thanks again!

Yeah, but the Bitcoin code has undergone so many changes that it no longer even resembles what it looked like when ixCoin was made. So you couldn't just copy and paste, it'd likely have to be done from scratch.

The code should start from the latest bitcoin source and modifed from there.     If you are familiar with the bitcoin code base, then the changes should be quite straight forward.

What needs a bit of thinking however it to modify the bitcoin code to support merge mining.

On Vircurex the equivalent value has touched 1 usd cent!!!!!!!!!!!

As you can get from my comment above given on sept 09 2013, in 2,5 months the equivalent value of IXC has passed from 1 USD cent (on september 9) to 5 USD cents in these days.

You can like IXC or not, but you have to admit there is a good potential here when it comes to speculation: +400% is not bad.

Happy to be part of it  Grin

I'm thrilled to say that I accumulated most of mine from 2 cents all the way down to half of 1 cent.  What threw my average off was the 100,000 or so coin which I paid a lot for due to that experiment I tried out where I the the price up 5 fold.

So my average in Bitcoin is around 8,000 but in USD it's got to be, at most, 1 penny.

So in USD, I'm up quite a bit right now even though I'm down some 30-40% in Bitcoins.

So you have 8,000 USD of IXcoin?

I just realized that this coin needs an update to the latest bitcoin version.

Send me some IXCoins for encouragement:  xm7RZfDQyiYqFQZ6Q9ZgtSkX9e8uBJ3SLY

Thanks!

The way these updates are done since this is open source is the job is done and the bounty is collected.

So far I've been able to get total commitments of 15,000 ixCoins.  But if ixCoin jumps up like I expect very soon then that bounty amount may be off the table.

I know right now 15,000 is not that much but if we could at least get encryption done on the wallet it would be a big help.  If these coins really do become worth something encryption will be absolutely urgent.

Have you had contact with the original author.   I would like to verify if there is someone else doing this work.

If no one is working on this, then I can start performing the port.

I recall the Litecoin guys where able to come up with a collection to doing the work.   Is that something that you can lead?  That is collecting the coins to do the work?

OK... Folks... I will take on the task to upgrade IXCoin to the latest version of Bitcoin.

How much IXCoin are you willing to donate for this task?
3486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: $5.00 bounty to the first person who can convince me not to buy ppc (reopened) on: November 23, 2013, 05:12:00 PM
There is one reason, and only one reason why you should not buy PPC.

The reason is NMC.

NMC is fast becoming the third most liquid coin and possibly could even become the 2nd (besting LTC).

NMC is a SHA256 coin that is merged mined with BTC.

So, as miners mine BTC they can use their cycles to also mine MNC.

If MNC rises in price, the miners have a choice to either merge mine MNC or mine PPC.  They cannot mine both.

In the same way, you cannot mine PPC and BTC at the same time.

Therefore, the market will choose NMC over PPC because the switching costs are too high.

Furthermore, there are less NNC coins in the market than PPC, this gives it also potential for a higher price.

Please send bounty to my NMC address:   N3CmwySiWWcm3LChmXAakVirw9ssfvZwyV
3487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: November 23, 2013, 02:53:30 PM
I wanna add one caveat to my "Bitcoin will die soon" theory:

Judging by China's actions and how deep they're into Bitcoin I don't think they're gonna let Bitcoin die so easily.

So although I still think Bitcoin will die [and ixCoin will take over] I'm now starting to see that Bitcoin's death will take some time.

So ixCoin should rise easily [above $3] "very soon", which to me means in a matter of a few months, and then there will be a battle between ixCoin and Bitcoin which "will take some time" and that battle will [eventually] be won by ixCoin.

So the only change I wanna make is that Bitcoin will NOT die in the next 30-60 days, that's just not possible with China in the picture but ixCoin will rise up during the short timeframe I felt Bitcoin's demise would come and ixCoin will eventually kill Bitcoin but it will take some time.

So we will have 2 major digital currencies battling it out on the global stage and those two will be Bitcoin (XBT) and ixCoin (XIC).  BTW, none of these currency symbols have been issued yet and nobody on the planet has yet to even utter a word about any currency being given the symbol of XIC.  This is all purely my personal conclusion.

ixCoin is today at roughly 2 USD pennies ($.02).   I'm calling for ixCoin to go at least past $3 in the next few months.  That's a minimum 150 fold or 15,000% return if I am correct.  It took Warren Buffet nearly 40 years to get 100 fold on his best stock, Coca Cola.

Any more exact than that and I'd be a prophet.  Lol.

That's more potential money than you'll ever make on Bitcoin so saddle up boys cause time is running out.

Interesting to find you here.

Anyway, I made a killing when LTC was at 50 cents.  Made a killing with NMC.   I bought a couple thousand of this iXcoin.  Hope to accumulate more over time.

3488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Indentifying the DPR 1670XBT transaction on: October 03, 2013, 12:29:51 AM
"............Canadian law enforcement authorities ... have no record of there being any Canadian resident with the name DPR passed to redandwhite as the target of the solicited murder-for-hire. Nor do they have any record of a homicide occurring in White Rock, British Columbia on or about March 31, 2013."

So DPR did pay 1670XBT but no homicide happened. Most probably, he was scammed  Grin

"FriendlyChemist" (the blackmailer) and "redandwhite" (the supplier) are most probably the same person. After all, there was no evidence showing they were different persons, and DPR was naive enough to trust redandwhite and sent him 150000USD in bitcoin.
Looks like extortion. Also it's possible that both FriendlyChemist and redandwhite were confidential informents working on behalf of the FBI to take him down.

You know, one guy making threats and trying to blackmail you to get the money out of you and another guy, a hitman who conveniently appears and offers to help take care of your problem?

If the FBI does it then it's an investigation and if the mafia does it then it's a protection racket. This doesn't excuse what he did, but it should put things in a context.

Agree.  If his first hit was already a setup, then it is like that this hit was also a setup.  It may explain also how the blackmailer was some how able to hack into the system.   What's also curious is that DPR apparently figured out the identity of the blackmailer.
3489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dread Pirate Roberts (silk road) arrest warrant on: October 03, 2013, 12:19:28 AM
I dont get it all the talk of mirror copies and emergency protocols in case of seizures with multiple way for vendors to get money in case ... exactly this happens and all turned out to be smoke in mirrors LOL

I really gave this guy credit for being a master mind of anonymity  and it turns out he had servers in his HOUSE lol and wallets right there too so this guys was running the show from his house lmao this is too good.

Well to all who were dumb enough to sell on SR or buy i say good luck

I seriously doubt that DPR has the technical skill to set up a backup system that kicks-in on the event of seizure.    Smart dude with the Physics degree and the Materials Science degree, but I doubt he expected to be caught so he never made an effort to create the fall back plan.

My suspicion is the best he did was create some kind of paper wallet.
3490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dread Pirate Roberts (silk road) arrest warrant on: October 03, 2013, 12:14:45 AM
I wonder if this means the mass arrests are coming? I would assume the FBI now has a list of customers and sellers. If you are a customer you may be safe, now that the DOJ has stated that they are no longer going after users.

Likely.  If DPR was so concerned about a black mail that would expose a subset of his clients, that he would pay for a hit on the black mailer.  Then one can expect A LOT of arrests.   That's a lot of BTC that's going to be permanently put on freeze.
3491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Acquire ZenithCoin (ZTC) Coins receive BTC mining shares! on: October 02, 2013, 11:44:15 PM
1. Xcoind dumpprivkey <address>
    -> [privkey]
2. Ycoind importprivkey [privkey]

If you want to import from Bitcoin to Zenithcoin, X=bit, Y=zenith; vice versa.

Thanks for the instructions.

You guys are crazy. He might be as innocent as a 2 year old, but as soon as you start giving the notion that Bitcoin users support an alleged murderer and drug kingpin (since the public opinion is all that matters), you are doing MUCH more harm to bitcoin than protecting some random guy in california because prominent bitcoin people should be able to get away with anything based solely on the fact that they are bitcoin users

Agree.... time to come clean.

If folks want to trade in the shady aspects of crypto-currencies... there are plenty of other alt-coins out there to use!
3493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 08:15:11 PM
FBI seized Silk Road's bitcoins and liquified them instantly. Panic sell by the Feds. Lovely.  Cool

Get rid of the evidence even before the trial starts?  I think not.
3494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 07:59:59 PM
According to DPR:

'All that being said, my primary motivation is not personal wealth, but making a difference. As corny as it sounds, I just want to look back on my life and know that I did something worthwhile that helped people. It’s fulfilling to me. If you don’t know this joy, you may hear my words as insincere and as a way to manipulate, but I know they are true and resonate with some of you. There is nothing wrong with living your life to maximize your own pleasure, so long as you aren’t hurting anyone in the process, but you will miss out on higher levels of happiness if your focus is always on yourself. It’s paradoxical, but the less you focus on your own happiness and focus on others’, the happier you’ll be. Try it out, you can always go back to being selfish."

Hmmmmm?!

He wasn't in it for the money, but to make a difference?

I like the quote on page 13 of the criminal complaint (http://www1.icsi.berkeley.edu/~nweaver/UlbrichtCriminalComplaint.pdf).
"Bitcoins are not illegal in and of themselves and have known legitimate uses."

lol

I guess they intend to sell the seized BTC at auction.  Roll Eyes

Likely to be used in more honey pots.
3496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 07:01:07 PM
Someone needs to start working on the Hollywood movie of this story. That kind of publicity can only be good for Bitcoin.

I read the affidavit,  definitely looks like something Hollywood can make into a movie.

"to send their responses to rosselbricht @ gamil.com", how could he be so sloppy ?

Read the full indictment, he registered his "altoid" account in here with that email, and they already had that.

But everybody wait and think: he just wrote ONE post about SR, and the October 11th post in which he said he was looking for an IT pro was very generic. And they caught him BECAUSE OF THAT, meaning that they have been thoroughly monitoring everybody that wrote ANYTHING about SR. And this applies to everything.

Creepy...

obviously the guy was a idiot.   He ran an anonymous peer to peer merchandise business that acted as a medium for drug trafficking from Texas, USA....Feb 2011...he admits he is a noob using linux.
Then he pays 150k in bitcoins to pull a hit.   With millions of USD in btc the guy should have hired a good lawyer or two.   Looking back he had 22-24k of bitcoin in 2011.   I bet he still has thousands of BTC elsewhere.

I doubt the FBI has seized everything.

It is just crazy that this guy thought he could get away with it!   I think all that BTC that he was raking in was clouding his judgement.

Well, to be honest, this did not require monitoring everyone.   It only required determining which account was the first to mention SR.  Once you got the account, you can check all the correspondence in the account.   From there you could determine the actual person behind it.   I mean, even if he didn't use a google account, he could have used a server name and could still get traced back by that.

Investigations on the virtual world may in fact be much easier than the physical world!

Point is that 1984 is far beyond here I think. Children posting all over FB have no idea how their future lives will be controlled, constrained, and prosecuted for pastcrimes.

What gave him away wasn't anything in Facebook or LinkedIn... it was a post on StackOverFlow!!!

Smart kid ( Bachelors in Physics, Masters in Materials Engineering).  Unfortunately, wrong side of the law.

The warrant says that the exchange was moving like 1.2 billion USD a month!   His bitcoin account was at 3.4 million.

I think he got caught up in all the money and there was no way he could ever cover his tracks once he made the first fatal mistake early on.
