Despite the loss of two early wickets, Mumbai seems to be cruising towards a 200 plus total. It is going to be tough for the Lucknow Super Giants. The pitch at MA Chidambaram Stadium is slower when compared to those in other venues and anything above 180 can be a winning total. Mumbai lost both the openers (Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma) early, and now Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav are at the crease. Fortunately for Mumbai, they have a lot of depth in batting. Tilak Varma is supposed to come at no.5, and Tim David will be batting at no.6.

Honestly, I understand if you do not have good enough players to play in the national team and that's why you have to get players from another country to play in the national team. But it can be only 3 or 5 players maximum. If it is anything more than that, it isn't a national team in my opinion. But we have a lot of teams that have 11 players from whole other continents playing in the national team. That's the funny and sad part. If that is the case then why don't let franchise cricket teams participate in the world cup?

The intent from ICC is to show that cricket is growing. So they have these 70-80 fake teams entirely consisted of Indian and Pakistani expats. Then they claim that cricket is being played around in 100 plus nations (which is false, obviously). A few weeks ago, I had posted one of my suggestions. My suggestion was to allot additional slots for teams like India and Pakistan. Rather than Indian players faking as UAE or German players, why can't the ICC allow Indian A, Indian U-23 or India U-19 squads in the ICC tournaments? But then their fake story of 100 countries playing cricket will be exposed.

Deshpande, Theekshana and Matheesha might be inexperienced in comparison to Gujrat's attack but all of them bowled nicely throughout the tournament. Deshpande in particular is quite expensive but at the same time, he's also taking a load of wickets.

So far Saha scored almost 300 runs this season and 3rd highest for Gujrat so i think he did justice to his selection.

I can agree that Matheesha Pathirana had been exceptional in this season for the Chennai Super Kings. And maybe we can say that Maheesh Theekshana did a decent job. But Tushar Deshpande? This guy has an economy rate of 9.61, despite bowling most of his overs in the initial powerplay. He has picked up a good number of wickets, but most of these wickets have been those of tailenders. Compared to Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana has an economy rate of 7.72 (and this is despite bowling almost all of his overs at the depth). Maheesh Theekshana and Ravindra Jadeja also have economy rate of less than 8.

I saw a lot of difference between Pakistan and Zimbabwean team players. Pakistan team players could not bat and bowl very well. But Zimbabwean did very well from bowling to batting. I thought Zimbabwean will not play very well in the match. But Zimbabwean is very good.  played. Pakistan team players are in such a bad situation because of their poor performance.

It's not like that. Pakistan fielded a very young and inexperienced side and at times they struggled against experienced Zimbabwean batsmen such as Craig Ervine and Sean Williams. That said, bowlers like Mir Hamza, Shahnawaz Dahani and Aamer Jamal did what they could under unsupportive conditions. Again, let's not forget the purpose of this series. The PCB is using this series to give opportunities to some of the emerging players ahead of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. Those who perform well in this series will be considered for those tournaments.

The schedule for ODI World Cup Qualifier is out. West Indies is placed in Group A, along with Nepal, Netherlands, United States and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka is in Group B, and they are placed alongside United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Oman and Ireland. The latest news from the tournament is that several of the key players will be absent from the Dutch squad, as they are playing county cricket in England. Paul van Meekeren, Colin Ackermann, Timm van der Gugten, Fred Klaassen and Roelof van der Merwe are some of the players who are missing out.

Mumbai Indians vs LSG In the last match, Mumbai Indians came very close to losing to LSG. In other words, only 11 runs were needed in the last over to win where Tim David and Cameron Green were on the wicket but these two experienced batsmen failed to score 11 runs in the last over despite being on the wicket.

Today's match is a do or die match for both teams. if today's match is won, there will be a chance to go to the final and if today's match is lost, then the dream of the final of this IPL season will be over, so both teams must make a specific plan before entering the field and then enter the field.
I will favor Mumbai Indians in today's match.

One of the concerns for Mumbai would be that their batsmen have frequently failed on slower surfaces such as the one at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. Suryakumar Yadav has scored tons of runs when the matches are hosted at the Wankhede stadium, but in other venues he has a very poor record. And the less talked about their bowling that better. Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah are out injured. Their replacements (Chris Jordan and Arjun Tendulkar) have leaked plenty of runs so far in this season.

Now FIFA has their own rules. They care more about money and not about the rules. There is a documenty about FIFA that there is so much money involved in all that
If FIFA is more concerned with money, why didn't FIFA choose Saudi Arabia as the host of the World Cup because Saudi Arabia itself has sufficient accommodation and finances to be able to make the World Cup the best after Qatar.
You are giving unreasonable assumptions buddy.
I know FIFA has its own rules and nobody can change them but this is all to increase the love and prominence of the sport of football in every country so it can't be said just for money.

Back then several factors came up for consideration. One of the arguments that favored Qatar was that the middle-east has never hosted the FIFA World Cup before. FIFA is quite interested in expansion of the sport outside Europe and Latin America, and after the 2002 edition (which was hosted by Japan and South Korea), they used the 2022 edition as a stepping stone to one of the unexplored regions. I would still like the FIFA to give an opportunity to either China or India to host one of the editions of the World Cup. These two nations comprise one-third of the global population, and they are yet to host this tournament.

Pandya, Miller and Tewatia were the biggest flop yesterday. Each of them contributed a single digit to the scoreboard. 172 was not that easy under those humid condition to chase. Pandya after winning the toss got overconfident and choose to bowl first. In my opinion they should have batted first and defended the target. They still have a another chance but if MI win today then I won't be surprised if GT loses the match against them.
Not sure if overconfident was the main reason as no one takes CSK that lightly. It was just a complete batting failure at a crucial time.

We all know Gujrat is a batting powerhouse and balanced team so call it an off day with the bat and it came against the Champion team.

It was surprising to see the top ranking team imploding against a sub-standard bowling attack being led by inexperienced youngsters such as Pathirana, Deshpande and Deepak Chahar. And I don't understand the point in sustaining with the 38-year old Wriddhiman Saha. He has scored a grand total of 26 runs in his last 4 innings. Ideally they should replace him with Srikar Bharat. And in case they can find another overseas slot, then Matthew Wade is going to be an excellent option. Bharat didn't got a single match in this season of the IPL so far.

And if this kind of situation continues, maybe after a decade, international matches will have any importance except for a few countries. Gradually, there is a clear perception among everyone that ICC is working to increase the number of countries and not the quality of cricket. The money in cricket is going up but the quality is going down and looks set to get worse in the future. The most surprising thing is that no one has taken any steps to exempt this situation. No one is saying anything. But sometimes many big cricketers and cricket experts or persons raise a storm of protest about any normal issue.

Agreed. Out of the 100 or so associate nations, around 80 are solely comprised of Indian and Pakistani expats. Matches involving these teams doesn't make any sense because it feels like some clubs in Mumbai or Delhi is playing against each other, despite what their jerseys indicate. I still remember once incident where two European teams were playing each other. During the post-match ceremony, some question was asked in the official language of one of the participating countries and none of the players were able to understand that.

Hopefully these tree saplings will be looked after as well, until they are self sufficient. Otherwise, actual survival rate of planted trees will be much less. Anyhow, a great initiative by bcci.

Yeah.. BCCI is swimming in wads of cash, from the IPL media rights sale and the increased allocation from the ICC. So they can indulge in these face saving activities. But at the same time, I really hope that they give some importance to the existing infrastructure. Despite being so rich, the BCCI still doesn't have a single stadium with retractable roof. And it will be very helpful to have one, given the number of rain interruptions in the last few years. Also, it will be good to have cricket stadiums in some of the scenic hill stations in addition to Dharamshala, such as Shillong, Gangtok, Imphal and Aizawl.

We can not expect such a performance from Pakistan team. But since it is an unofficial match, the series is not played as seriously as it should be played. Many feel that they are trying to hold on to the series alive and end up with a tie or even loss. A big difference in the game was evident when Pakistan team scored only 295 runs in 50 overs in the 4th ODI for the loss of 9 wickets while Zimbabwe team surpassed that target by just 3 wickets. I personally think this is the indifference of Pakistan team players. But there is nothing to say here because the series is unofficial.

Pakistan should not bother much about losing the series. They were playing against the Zimbabwe Senior squad, and yet they gave a good fight. This series was organized to prepare both teams for the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled for later this year. Pakistan selectors did their job, by including a number of emerging players in their squad. For some unknown reasons, the Zimbabwean selectors instead went for the regular players. So even after winning the series, I am not sure how much Zimbabwe has gained from it.

The rot started with the openers. They were too slow to begin with. None of the top-5 batsmen had a strike rate of more than 115, which was way below the required rate. In the end Rashid Khan tried to boost the scoring rate, but then it was too late. It surprises me that a team such as Gujarat, which tops the points table during the group phase struggled to score runs against ordinary bowlers like Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande and Maheesh Theekshana. Ravindra Jadeja had figures of 4-0-18-2, with an economy rate of 4.50.
3493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: May 24, 2023, 04:25:46 AM
I feel the bowlers contributed more to Chennai Super Kings reaching the final. Although the importance of the batsman is not less. However, in recent times, big scores have higher chasing wins. As a result, teams like Gujarat lost all their wickets while scoring 172 runs. So I want to promote the achievement of the bowler. Deepak Chahar picked up two crucial wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill. Since then the decline of Gujarat started. Captain Hardik Pandya's wicket was picked up by Maheesh Theekshana who had two wickets to his name. Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana also picked up two wickets each.

Wriddhiman Saha seems to be out of form, which puts a lot of burden on Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia are also not scoring too many runs lately. Yesterday nothing went right for Gujarat Titans, starting from team selection. Selecting Darshan Nalkande ahead of Josh Little for such a crucial match was a big blunder. With the additional overseas slot, they went for Dasun Shanaka and he didn't contributed anything. Anyway, GT still has one more chance to get into the IPL final. Hopefully better sense will prevail then.

The ICC is not actually very thoughtful about the associate nations. They are actually interested in decreasing the funding of them so that they can actually fund the bigger teams more and more. Basically, they want to fund those teams which are generating more revenue for them. This is absolutely bad practice for the cricket game itself. I am sure that ICC does not give too much importance to the associate nations because they are not very interested in bringing in new teams. Otherwise, cricket would have been very different around the world.

Cricket is once again moving to the Srinivasan/Pawar era, where they had this pig-3 setup. Associate nations used to receive somewhere around 30% and 35% of the ICC revenues during the 2007-15 cycle. Srinivasan reduced it to 11% for the 2015-23 cycle (actually he wanted to reduce it to zero, but then a compromise deal was reached). For the next cycle (2024-27) also the same percentage has been allotted to the associate nations. The problem here is that the number of associate nations have gone up thanks to the weird player eligibility criteria setup by the ICC. So now there are more number of teams, and less amount of funds to be shared among them.

I was wondering about the reason as i was watching the match, good initiative but should provide these ideas to the government as well because the amount of trees cut which were centuries old in the name of road development was really huge.

LOL... this is the problem with India. Whenever a road widening happens, all the environmentalists go ballistic, saying that cutting down a few dozen trees will be harmful for the ecology and the project should be dropped. And this is the reason why despite it's huge population, India has one of the narrowest roads in the world. But at the same time, these tree huggers don't have a problem with the massive amount of deforestation that is going on in some of the north-east states and Kerala that is supported by the church. The initiative from BCCI is good, hopefully now Indians will focus more on the real issue rather than sabotaging the development activities.

What a batting display by Zimbabwean as they chase 295 without any problem in just 48 overs Craig Ervine 161 was the hero for the home side as they are now leading this series by 3 - 1 against Pakistan after securing their third win with two matches are remaining in this series.

Zimbabwe won the toss and choose field first which was not good decision by them as Pakistani batting done good job and hammered them badly with last five overs concede 50 runs which was surely good achievement for Pakistanis but sadly Zimbabwean batting was also done good job and have very organized second wicket partnership of 278 runs which give them success in this match and now having control in this series as well now on 25th May we will have 5th match of this series.

If the Zimbabweans wanted a morale booster, then they got it. But that doesn't take away the fact that they fielded the national team against a bunch of youngsters from Pakistan. Among the Pakistani players, only a very few had any sort of international experience (such as Hussain Talat and Shahnawaz Dahani). Given the fact that Zimbabwe struggled to defeat them, the future outlook for them looks not very bright for me. Zimbabwe is still dependent on some players who are based outside that country like Craig Ervine and Ryan Burl. And this is not going to be beneficial in the long run.

This was a little unexpected. That target was not certainly something that was not achievable by GT. If they started to keep up with the run rate I think they could have actually got the win. They actually have a good setup because if they can continue performing well from the top order they can rely on Rashid Khan to smash some in the end. But they have just put a little too much to do for the late order batsmen. And of course, they did not win. I will say this was actually a careless performance from Gujarat.

I have to agree. Hardik Pandya and the rest of the Gujarat players became a bit complacent after they managed to restrict Chennai Super Kings to 172/7. Perhaps they were expecting to chase a total of 180-200, and were surprised when they managed to pick some quick wickets towards the end. Gujarat Titans started quite slowly, and apart from Shubman Gill no one made any significant contributions. At the end of 10th over, the required run rate had already climbed to more than 10 runs per over. And the selection policy was confusing for GT. I don't understand why Dasun Shanaka was selected ahead of Josh Little.
3498  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: May 24, 2023, 02:13:26 AM
The other solution could be that any country will have to give the player acidity of that respective country. They can use players who come from another country but they will at least have to have citizenship. Without citizenship, a person cannot represent that country. That is actually going to fix most of the problems, to be honest.

Because we all know that the countries are not going to give away citizenship for free. And if the country does actually give citizenship to that player the country is going to be liable for the actions he takes and also the country will have to look after that person as a citizen.

Cricket is the only sport that allows foreign players in the "national" teams. And in case of teams such as Czech Republic and Cyprus, they never ever had a single citizen in their team. No one will be complaining about teams fielding naturalized citizens (for example UAE including someone who was born in Pakistan, but received the UAE citizenship recently). But in case of cricket, it is possible to have a national team of Norway or Sweden without any citizens from these countries. From what I understand, the ICC want to inflate the number of countries that play cricket. And that is the reason why they came up with this strange idea.
3499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: May 23, 2023, 10:52:13 AM
✂✂✂✂✂
But at the same time, some other associate nations are very happy with what they are getting. So they do not want to make any kind of scene. If all the associate nations actually come forward together I think the ICC will have to take necessary steps about it. But again some associate teams are promised one or two series against the big four. And the associate teams basically do not say anything because they are very happy with only one or two series that they are getting.

That is understandable. There are certain associate teams that are happy, with whatever they are getting from the ICC. I am referring about teams such as Czech Republic and Romania, which are entirely consisted of Indian and Pakistani medical students who are temporarily residing in these countries. As per ICC's revenue distribution formula, these teams get the same share of funds as genuine teams such as Argentina or Israel. So they are happy, because they get all the money for themselves and don't need to spend any money for development or any other activity since no one else plays cricket in these countries.

Pakistan Shaheens may make a total of close to 300. After 47 overs, they are 263/6, with the 24-year old Omair Yousuf batting unbeaten at 138. Pakistan selectors are utilizing this opportunity well, to give chances to some of the younger players. Apart from Omair, Kamran Ghulam also scored a half-century. On the other hand, there seems to be no difference between the Zimbabwe Select squad and the Zimbabwe senior team. Almost all the players are regulars from the senior side. And they have really struggled against the young Pakistani players.
