For those who remember how Matthew's 10k BTC (or more? I don't remember) bet went without escrow I encourage you all to use escrow for the bet.
Do you have a link to that bet or any keywords to look for? There were a few threads: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=102918.0https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=101751.0He later got a scammer tag but it appears that Theymos took it off, after recently returning he's been trying to come into an agreement with people he was owing money to.

The same old suit-and-tie motherfuckers who actually run the economy scare a lot of people too.
The crucial point is that Bitcoin is a revolutionary idea. This guy explained VERY WELL the fundamentals. If you are scared by a guy wearing a "mohawk", regardless of what he is saying, then maybe freedom - and Bitcoin - is not for you.
I'm not -- but I'm talking about the majority of the people here because let's face it - a person in a suit and a tie is considered by most people as someone more credible and respectable than an anarchist with a mohawk (are you even aware of the negative connotation of the word 'anarchist?). If we can't convince the majority to use Bitcoin we will be forever confined to using it within a limited circle of its aficionados. I'd love if people were different but convincing them (except speculators) will be a no easy task.

This interview actually wen't quite well, especially compared to the previous ones I remember, but I must agree that his appearance may scare some people away from perceiving Bitcoin as a positive thing.
So stop complaining.

I'd say this is OK for the GPU (although I feel more comfortable with <80C for 24/7 use) but what are the temperatures of your VRAM and VRMs? Use GPU-Z to check all of the card's sensors.

What is the 'safe' or 'standard' way to do these transactions? (ie avoid being scammed)
Use escrow.

In reality United States is wasteful society. It's not only US. A lot of governments and state-owned companies are like that. Some charities, some NGOs and NATO too. Very often they have a budget and if they don't spend enough money by the end of a year, next year they will be appointed a smaller amount.

Chrome says millimeter is wrong.
So which is it?!
Pardner?!
It's double 'L'. If I were British I would also tell you to spell the 2nd part as 'metre'

When the names are finally released it will be fascinating to see all the (champagne) socialists on there. No doubt the lefties will make up the bulk of the list, but "capitalism" will get the rap. ...
Would not surprise me. Most of the highly intelligent people I know are pretty left-wing, and it is easier to get ahead if one is bright. Most of the right wingers I know are dolts who are in debt up to their eyebrows. OTOH, lots of silver-spoon kids grow up to be right-wingers also and they may account for the bulk of the capital. Now left-wing wealthy folks are probably less inclined to be tax cheats, but there will certainly be many exceptions to the rule. That's funny, the wealthy and intelligent people that I know are either right-wing or libertarian and those with the least money, state-dependent are usually more left-wing. Some of them are middle class, but none of the wealthy people that I know or have met personally are left-wing (those left-wingers who earned the money due to cronyism, nepotism or corruption which is not a rare occurence in my country are not counted here). If Assange is behind this, it could well be his get-out-of-jail-free card. It makes me again wonder what might be in 'insurance.aes256'
To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if there was nothing or not much in there but it was only announced to scare some people.

it's funny to think how people thought that they had missed their chance to mine almost 2 years ago.
I haven't, started on June 1st. But I regret not having started in 2009-2010. Or even in early 2011 when the price was <$1. But I still would probably have sold the Bitcoins too early.

While I like and support this venture my intuition and common sense will not allow me to deposit any money, especially considering the amount of people / companies on these forums that turned out to be scammy, despite having their identities known by the community and being in possession of impeccable reputation. Nonetheless, I wish you good luck.

The increasing value of bitcoins allows for paying back many USD denominated loans and general debts. If even Trendon were to agree to pay the USD value of the coins he stole, he could completely pay everyone back right now and still be rich.
That's only assuming he hadn't sold the coins so far. Wouldn't be surprised if he had been selling the coins when they were worth $10-12.

Other exchanges either get hacked or have legal problems. Operating an exchange and dealing with peoples' money is an expensive beaurocratic problem that kills the business. There is no free market when there is government intervention and regulation (AML laws, KYC laws, anti-terrorist fears and other crap).

2006 was too frustrated with the funding process to follow through with purchasing eventhough I firmly believed BTC was something to behold.
Bitcoin wasn't around in 2006? You knew about bitcoin a full 3 years before it was launched and a full 2 years before it was announced? I think we found The Satoshi.

How BFL promised to begin shipping in late October or early November 2012 is beyond comprehension. All the promises made to date regarding power use and performance have been based on simulations that now have proved to be wildly optimistic. I still can't believe how people fell for it after their previous history of over-promising. 1GH/s and 19.6W and $500, remember?

Wouldn't it be wiser to peg the debt to USD value at the time of the hack? I understand not everyone would like it but that's pretty much the only way the debt can be repaid and it is done this way on another exchange that lost money (bitmarket.eu).
