Any "transfer" service such as via zelle, paypal, or other similar services can have very high fraud rates and can be very risky.

I would personally not participate in a $5,000 trade with this payment method, even if I knew the person well and knew them to be honorable. Anyone considering trading with the OP make their own decisions for themselves.

3524  Other / Archival / Re: To address the emergency, Mexico will solve the incursion or face tarriffs on: June 02, 2019, 07:02:12 PM
Can anyone see the downside of this against the general populace of the American people?
This is not risk free to America. Prices of some goods will go up. Instead of addressing the migration issue, the Mexico government may issue retaliatory tariffs on US goods.

The Mexican government is very corrupt, and does not care about its people the same way an American President should. The Mexican government has also dumped many of its problems into the US over many decades.

Mexico is not in any position to make demands from the USA. Its primary income is from remittances from workers in the USA. All the USA would have to do is put its foot on that hose of money and they would choke.
In 2017, remittances to Mexico were $28 billion, compared to a GDP of $1,150 Billion ($1.15 trillion), or about 2.4% of the Mexican economy. According to a recent New York Times article, Mexico exported ~$346 Billion in goods to the US last year, or 30% of their economy.

A tax on Remittances would slow the inflow of migrants into the US because migrants would be unable to send many times the local wage back home to support their families.

May I suggest explicitly stating your trust feedback policy because... you know... trust farmers.
I am not sure if your post was directed about my request. If you bothered to read my post you would see the stated purpose very clearly says is to test my LN client. Nowhere did I imply that I expect trust in return for repaying >$1
3527  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LocalBitcoins Cash-in-person trades removed? on: June 02, 2019, 06:29:03 PM
I was on LocalBitcoins this afternoon and noticed Cash-in-Person trades appear to be removed. I am not able to find anything about this on their FAQ nor their Twitter, or their blog.

Does anyone know when this was effective, or their rational behind this?

I cannot image any legal rationale behind removing these ads, at least in the US, as they are only posting content by their own users.

Just a few weeks ago they also removed gift card transactions, so it's probably a series of moves due to regulatory pressure to try and stay in business while offering semi-anonymous accounts to users.
I understand why they would not want gift cards traded. Gift card transaction have a very high fraud rate, and would be very hard to mediate any dispute between two traders. A dispute in which LocalBitcoins sides with the person who was scamming could result in the person who got scammed to not use LocalBitcoins even for trades they can easily mediate.

I wonder what Localbitcoins themselves make of all this. I'm sure they're not adding it for fun. At some point there'll be properly viable decentralised P2P options and then their business fades away. I presume they've made vast amounts of money so it won't really matter.

The way they're going they're going to wind up being the worst of both worlds.
It is very difficult to gauge how much you can trust someone in a truly decentralized platform. A decentralized platform would make it too easy to create many fake trades and fake vouches. I also don't think it would be possible to mediate any trade disputes.

I know there have been crackdowns by the US government regarding money laundering, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they are afraid of eventual consequences on them and are just getting out in front of it. My current analysis of the legality is that it is highly illegal to sell bitcoins as a business in the US, and anyone attempting to do so should be very cautious.
In some cases, selling bitcoins for cash may be illegal in the US, but this wouldn’t make hosting ads for this illegal due to safe harbor laws. There are some ways selling bitcoins for cash would not break the law but I don’t want to be giving anyone anything that could be construed as blanket legal advice. You can also obtain various licenses and maintain specific records and be selling bitcoins for cash in large volumes completely legally.

I agree, with the proper paperwork it would be legal, but it would get very expensive very quickly for a single man operation. Back when  I sold, and over the course of 3 years sold more than 6 million dollars worth, it would have just been worth it to go down that route. Unfortunately, my supple of coins dried up at that point and I could not continue, but the point is that a very small group of people this would work for. I would imagine LBC is just getting out ahead and not wanting to get into legal trouble.
I am fairly certain that local bitcoins has safe harbor in the US so long as they are not considered a publisher under US law. They could give resources to traders to help them follow and comply with the law.

I don’t think the “online” traders will see things much differently in terms of the law.

I like trading face to face because my privacy is increased as there isn’t a paper trail. I am doing everything by the book so to speak including paying all my taxes, but I don’t like a lot of prying eyes knowing my business.

Do you have evidence that vaccines are, in fact unsafe or lead to any kind of mental illness? Beyond the CDC not filing reports with congress....

sample size of 1300 bets is not enough
Post a screenshot after 10000, (~ can be completed less then a week), if you are confident about this script
There is no sample size large enough. It is mathematically impossible to "beat" a casino with -EV for the player over the long run.
Yeah in the long run. But its for quick profits and also uses ways to get a little higher chance
Any positive returns achieved in the short run is the result of good "luck" and cannot be guaranteed.
3535  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is in mind of those, who against vaccination? on: June 01, 2019, 06:13:27 PM
The anti-vaxxers are primarily influenced by mis/dis-information that has as of recently been spread by social media. Social media such as Facebook has allowed people to spread inaccurate information without any real damage to their reputations, or any other ramifications.
^^^ You or anyone are certainly welcome to provide some safety reports. We would love to see some long-term safety reports, scientifically done, that show how safe vaccines are. Please show us something that contradicts the CDC's own reports about all the bad stuff in their own vaccines.
I found this on the CDC website, that cites many studies over many years that say there is no link between the thimerosal found in vaccines and Autism.

I would also encourage anyone with concerns about their children receiving vaccines to review the CDC Vaccine Safety Publications by Year website.

Not every child is healthy enough to receive vaccines, and when this is the case, the child's pediatrician will advise the child's partent this. When many children do not receive vaccines for reasons other than not being healthy enough, there is a risk the child will get sick with an illness the vaccine is supposed to prevent, and the illness spreads to many other unvaccinated children, including those who legitimately cannot receive the vaccine.

3538  Other / Archival / Re: To address the emergency, Mexico will solve the incursion or face tarriffs on: June 01, 2019, 07:11:50 AM
The only point I could see people bring up is the fact that the people who pay tariffs are citizens of the US and firms in the US who are consuming the products that are imported. It's not like this tax is being levied against the Mexican government for each product that is shipped into the US. All this does is make Mexican products more expensive, and make American (or other countries products) seem cheaper.

I'm not saying by this rationale that this is a good/bad decision. I do think that this is going to help force the Mexican government into working towards a solution though. Just wanted to show who pays for this.

That's not so. Consumers in the USA will not "pay for more expensive Mexican goods that include the US Tariff."

They will see the Mexican goods as one option in a competitive market, and likely pick some other, equally good product, which does not include a tariff. The net effect of this is Mexico losing substantial income and trade, the US getting minimal tariff income, and US consumers paying minimal amounts of tariffs.

But you have to understand that the only reason that other goods are going to be bought by Americans due to the fact that Mexican goods are going to be more expensive due to the tarrifs. That's the only reason that the other goods now have to compete with other, more expensive goods.

They may still pay for Mexican products if they are still cheaper than other, comparable products, even with the tariff.
Tariffs on Mexican goods will cause less Mexican goods to be consumed, and will hurt Mexico. These tariffs will not push consumption of Mexican goods to zero, and US consumers will pay more for Mexican goods. As Spendulus stated, US consumers will substitute other goods if price/quality of the substituted goods makes sense, and US consumers will also buy less Mexican goods even when there is no comparable substitute when the goods are not needed to cover basic needs (less luxury goods will be purchased from Mexico).

Additional empirical evidence that tariffs hurt the country they are levied against is that the various countries Trump has levied tariffs against have issued retaliatory tariffs, and have tried to negotiate with the US to get the tariffs removed.
