There are number of telegram scam cases like adding you to some fake groups and now this auto download. So for those who don't know how to turn it on here is the procedure for you all
Yep, the one where they add you to fake groups without your permission is probably the most popular way to get scammed on Telegram, and yet again it happens because that option is enabled by default, same like it is for automatically downloading files. And as we know, new users rarely bother to check apps thoroughly.

These two options being enabled by default never made much sense to me, especially since Telegram is privacy oriented chatting platform (or at least they claim to be) and its the cause of like 90% of the Telegram scams.

Big problem when it comes to investing in altcoins is that even if everything checks out (good idea, team is experienced, whitepaper decently written etc) there is a huge chance that project will fail and their token will be eventually worthless. That's just the nature of any startup, let alone crypto oriented one that has even bigger chances to fail.
3523  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: April 20, 2022, 01:28:43 PM
Sup @GazetaBitcoin (and other fellas) Cheesy

I've been reluctant so far to tag OPs of the threads that are using bumping services as I wasn't 100% sure that they were part of it. The only time (iirc) when I tagged them if they were doing the same thing as the other bumping  accounts, like it happened recently with that bumping group that consisted of Copper Members.

What I sometime do though is that I try to communicate in their thread and explain them how bad and pointless what they are doing actually is, like I did in Ownr Ann group recently and from what I can see they stopped with that so I guess it worked.
3524  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: April 20, 2022, 07:58:29 AM
Can we have names of VPN available for USA residents and for IOS phone?
I would suggest you to check Mullvad. Price is reasonable ($5 per month), it has good amount of available servers and speed is also very good. The best thing about it is that is very privacy oriented (probably the best one in that regard I tried so far) so if that is high on your priority list you should definitely check it out. And yeah it has iOS app, I tried it on iPad.
3525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is truly missing in the Bitcoin ecosystem to get this to the masses on: April 20, 2022, 07:39:27 AM
as a mater of fact, in Croatia we can even do that as the biggest supermarket chain accepts bitcoin through payment processor for online purchases

Lucky you!
Hah yeah, we are lucky that people behind our main payment processors Paycek are very active and so far managed to get hundreds of businesses on board: from bars and restaurants to car dealerships, hotels, supermarkets and even couple of cities so there you can even pay utility bills using bitcoin.

There may be more people spending bitcoin than you'd think. Or maybe my logic is flawed.
Maybe, but I was just surprised to see some  people here advocating for not spending bitcoin, at least not yet and I always thought of bitcointalk as a place that gathers people who want to spend bitcoin and use for what was it initially intended for. Well, at least more than in some other places.

I expect a majority of those in here do spend, especially if the price is right (yes, I know that this is the weak point and it can depends from person to person).
I used to operate that way, waiting for bitcoin to reach certain price and then spend, but now honestly I don't care and I stopped checking the price. I would of course time it if I am buying something expensive like a house or car, but for stuff like PC hardware or something in that price range I don't care anymore. Just month ago I bought new monitor and keyboard using bitcoin and didn't care that price is like 40% down from ATH.

One can hope, OK? Grin Never say never Grin
True that. After all, crazier things have happened when it comes to crypto Cheesy
3526  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Currently dealing with the worst day of my life in crypto on: April 20, 2022, 07:02:59 AM
And I certainly believe that the one who reached me out on Telegram was a fake dev (in which I am so blind in checking his real and actual Telegram account) because we were "suppose" to be "collaborating" for a video review that needs me to "sign" the document. But in the end, yes it's a ZIP file that needs to be opened but with docs, images and that "fake-looking" PDF file in which I lately found that it is a "SCREEN SAVER" file).
Damn, that's a sneaky way to scam someone and the one that is very easy to fall for if you are doing business on Telegram as there is a lot of stuff going on there all the time. I know its not the mistake that you specifically did, but I would advise everyone to disable the option to automatically download any files as this thing is enabled by default on Telegram and I heard many stories about people getting rekt that way.

It's very hard for me to move on right now. I only have a little savings left after everything I've worked and sacrificed all these years since the pandemic and now going back to square one, but for now I'll just have to deal with this and keep moving forward despite the difficulties and emotional pain that I am in right now
I can completely relate to your feelings right now as back in 2017 I went through something similar: my bitcoin wallet got hacked and I lost 0.1 BTC which was basically all I had at the moment. Even though the amount lost is smaller than yours I also thought about giving up and leaving crypto as it was very disheartening to loose everything. But after few days of mourning I owned my own mistakes and continue the journey, this time being way more careful than before. In the end it proved to be the best decision ever so I suggest you to do the same, no matter how hard it looks now.
3527  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: April 20, 2022, 06:36:03 AM
Kao sto sam i obecao prosli put, evo i mjesecnog pregleda naseg boarda u nesto razumnijem vremenskom roku. Podaci uz pomoc kojih sam napravio chartove su preuzeti od @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboarda and @TryNinja Ninjastic.spacea kojima ovom prilikom jos jednom zahvaljujem.

Broj postova  u periodu 01.01.-31.03.

Lista aktivnih clanova naseg boarda u periodu 1.03-31.03

3528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is truly missing in the Bitcoin ecosystem to get this to the masses on: April 19, 2022, 12:19:03 PM
While I agree that most see Bitcoin as something good only for investing into, I do spend, just unfortunately in most cases I have to get fiat first.
I would gladly pay with Bitcoin if:
* I would not have to overpay hugely for having the benefit of spending Bitcoin
* the grocery stores would accept Bitcoin. I cannot eat TVs, laptops and mobile phones, they hurt my digestion.
Yeah of course, we still didn't reach that point where we can easily  buy everyday stuff like food and groceries using bitcoin (as a mater of fact, in Croatia we can even do that as the biggest supermarket chain accepts bitcoin through payment processor for online purchases) but I was more aiming at those that are avoiding to spend bitcoin even when they can for simple things.

And imho one big problem with the rather slow "expansion" of Bitcoin is the lack of acceptance in stores around the world.
That's true, but first step imho is them accepting bitcoin via payment processors and when they see that they have plenty of traffic, we can maybe see direct payments.

Just ask yourself: why would average Joe get into Bitcoin if they don't see it used anywhere and also government officials tell it's not OK? Imho that's why some risk to buy for holding... and that's basically all... (and yes, then we can get more technical).
From my experience talking with people that are not interested/reluctant to buy bitcoin, their main concerns when it comes to using bitcoin for payments are volatility and the fact that they are responsible for safety of their bitcoin and not the bank. As I said, majority of people are ready to trade freedom for the sense of lack security and I don't expect that to change ever. If anything, its only getting worse.

Of course that they'll advertise mostly their business. But I think/hope that sooner or later they'll advertise Bitcoin too, simply because going mainstream will help their business making more money.
Imho Sportsbet.io did/does it right with the sponsorship of a football team: both their name/logo and Bitcoin are visible on the equipment.
Difference between sportsbet and exchanges is that sportsbet doesn't have (afaik) their own cryptocurrency/blockchain like many of the exchanges do. I would like for exchanges to focus more on bitcoin, but honestly I don't see it happening.

What's concerning me is if most merchants will have understood self-custody or will they just embed a BitPay or Coinbase API which will ask for KYC and other such nonsense.
Majority of them will simply opt for some payment processor first and I can understand that choice looking from their point of view as even if they get crypto directly, they still have to pay their suppliers, taxes etc and all that is done in fiat. So then they have to sell bitcoin to pay all of that, and we know that fees are not negligible. But who knows, after enough people buy their stuff that way, maybe they decide to accept bitcoin directly.
3529  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitwings promises smartphone that can mine 2 ETH/month. Ponzi scheme? on: April 19, 2022, 09:40:36 AM
I still save the BWN Token on their website and until now there is no latest update, the last update is 2021, the Telegram group has not had any discussion for years, it's very suspicious, even when I questioned my rights they immediately issued me to the Telegram group.
Buddy, Bitwings was suspicious three years ago when they started bounty campaign (it really surprised me how no one bothered to ask them about mobile phone that can mine 2 ETH per month) and its been obvious for almost two years now (since I created this thread) that Bitwings is nothing but a scam.

Regarding your BWN tokens, you might as well forget about them and all those promises about having stabile price and being able to buy smartphones and laptops with them.
3530  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Buy virtual Mastercard Debit Cards with crypto without KYC. on: April 18, 2022, 08:43:49 PM
This is one of the reasons, off-topic replies.
Well, if you hadn't opened a new thread I wouldn't have to ask the question. And those posts in previous thread weren't off-topic at all as people talked about your service, asked questions and share opinions so I would say on-topic stuff and pretty normal for a new service that doesn't have much info on the website. By the way, if you think that some posts are off-topic, you can always report them to the mods and let them sort that out.

Once again I am suggesting you to handle the things in a more professional manner if you want to have any sort of success here and not lock threads and open new ones after couple of tough questions.
3531  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ANN] KYNNO - plagiarism on: April 18, 2022, 04:56:00 PM
I don't know where did they get the idea of posting here without knowing how the forum works
Just the fact that they came to bitcointalk to advertise altcoin project that has plagiarized whitepaper shows that no one on their team knows absolutely nothing about bitcointalk, but I guess someone told them that bitcointalk is the place to be so here they are.

how they launched a Cryptocurrency based project when they lack ideas of decentralization, they thought that this is a centralized forum and they can go directly to the management and ask them for us to shut up,
For majority of altcoin projects "decentralization" is just a buzzword in order to attract investors while in reality they don't care about it at all.

this is the first time a visitor who drops here open a thread and threaten people with a legal suit because we are not praising their project instead we give them negative feedback because they deserve them.
It is rare, but it's not the first time I saw project creators come to scam accusation threads and threatening people with legal suits, demanding for threads to be removed, asking mods to remove the thread and other similarly laughable stuff.
3532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is truly missing in the Bitcoin ecosystem to get this to the masses on: April 18, 2022, 04:25:09 PM
Imho Bitcoin is getthing this slow to the masses is political.
Is Bitcoin getting into mainstream slower than we would like? Sure, but I don't think that bitcoin is slow at all. Keep in mind that bitcoin is around for a little bit more than a decade which is nothing really for something so innovative and first of its kind.

The governments and central banks do protect their fiat. Most commercial banks see bitcoin as a competitor. All of them are bashing Bitcoin as much as possible, spreading false news in order to keep average Joe wary about Bitcoin.
While banks and governments are certainly not big fans of bitcoin and are a big reason why people are reluctant to start using bitcoin, I don't think that its solely their fault. First of all, we have to ask ourselves do we use bitcoin enough for what is originally intended for. I hear even on this forum people saying that they are saving bitcoin and spending fiat only and if bitcoiners are saying that, how can we expect that others that are way less informed about bitcoin will start using it?

Question is whether average Joe would be interested in bitcoin even without the banks/government FUD? The thing is, majority of people don't like personal responsibility, "be your own bank" thing and will regularly sacrifice freedom for a sense of false security, so for them bitcoin will always be a scary thing to some degree. That also explains why so many people keep their crypto on the exchanges and other centralizes services instead of their own non custodial wallets.

For now I see easier advertising to FTX, Binance and many others, but not that much for Bitcoin. But sooner or later they'll realize they have to do a bit more.
Those business have their own tokens to push so I don't expect from them any help when it comes to making bitcoin more appealing to the masses.
3533  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where does this merit comes from ? on: April 18, 2022, 03:55:22 PM
Wow you really helped me ser. Thanks so much for clarification. But exactly what is mean by outside of bounty section ? Like in alcointalks, marketplace etc. please solve this one more last question of mine. Sorry for taking your time. Thank you
Yep, any that is not a bounty section, which is nothing but a spam dumpster so no wonder that you didn't get any merit in all your time here. Stick to the boards and topics that you have some interest, engage in conversations, be ready to learn and merit will find your way. This forum is so much more than bounty section where you spent majority of your time.

One important thing to add is to take your time and read Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ thoroughly so you don't repeat some classic newbie mistakes like getting banned due plagiarism.

3534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where does this merit comes from ? on: April 18, 2022, 03:36:57 PM
So in previous times merit is comes from airdrop wow thats awesome.
Merit airdrop was only one time thing, at the moment merit system was implemented.

But now it is hard to get because we have to help others to solve their questions and answers and if they liked it they will give merit to us. Is that correct ser ?
It may look hard when you got 0 merit so far, but once you start posting regularly outside of bounty section you will see that it ain't that hard at all. And no, you don't get merit by only helping others, often even asking a right question and showing genuine interest in bitcoin can get you merit.
3535  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where does this merit comes from ? on: April 18, 2022, 03:28:57 PM
All you have to know about merit is in the link below
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

Pro tip:if you want to get some merit, start posting outside of bounty section.
3536  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ANN] KYNNO - plagiarism on: April 18, 2022, 03:02:33 PM
I evoked legal pursuit because I was advised to do so by our legal team and uniquely on the Fake Team allegations which led to the creation of this thread in the first time.
Hah, good luck with that. Who exactly will you sue over this?

For the whitepaper, we made the necessary changes as explained which clears all the allegations and made our mea culpa.
Things doesn't work like that, that negative feedback has to disappear and everything is good once you fix the whitepaper. You will find that standards here are much higher when it comes to judging altcoin projects so unless you are 100% clean(which your project obviously wasn't), you won't have good time here.

It is your own opinion and you are entitled to call it the way you want.
Exactly. So if someone here on bitcointalk calls you a scam and leaves negative feedback, its their prerogative and there is nothing that you can do about it.

Why don't you contact the TG username that is listed on the NFT Chat group and check whether offer is legit? That's probably the best way to clear this out.

I am surprised to see that scammy exchange at the top of the list as from what I know they are owned by a russian guy Yaroslav Yarovenko, who is behind another scam exchange, Coinsbit. I guess they used this as an opportunity to scam more people out of their money.

When did Binance say so? It's important, because lately they've turned into an exchange obeying regulation and they have already frozen this year the funds of Nigerians (most probably) because of official requests (just I didn't follow the story closely, hence I don't know if those funds got unfrozen meanwhile).
He is probably referring to this

Binance said Monday it will block the accounts of Russian individuals who have been sanctioned, but will not “unilaterally” freeze the accounts of all Russian users.
The comments come after Ukraine’s vice prime minister called on major cryptocurrency exchange to block all Russian user accounts.
“We are not going to unilaterally freeze millions of innocent users’ accounts,” a spokesperson for Binance, the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, told CNBC

And even more: one should not really trust in what these businesses said. The policies can change over time.
This. People shouldn't generally keep in any coins on exchange, but if your are Russian its even more dangerous as all this can change overnight and Binance can easily freeze your assets.

All research shows that more than 80% of Russians support war, and it is impossible to separate the good from the bad, so everyone must bear the consequences.
All research? I don't believe it. That percentage is just Putin's propaganda and nothing else, there's no way in hell that 80% of Russians support the war. After all, can you really trust any polls that are coming from Russia, given the circumstances? Their elections are heavily rigged for decades, let alone something like polls in the middle of war.
3539  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk makes offer to buy Twitter on: April 17, 2022, 12:47:19 PM
So let's speculate a bit about him, did he really manage to pull it off?
Musk wants to acquire twitter because he can use it for his own selfish desire maybe in promoting dogecoin rather than bitcoin.
He is certainly not offering that kind of money if he doesn't think that he will profit from it, but do you really think that he would spend 40 billion dollars as a way to promote Dogecoin, when he can do it for free on Twitter anyway? This would be extremely stupid move and he didn't make all those billions by being stupid. He for sure has some bigger plans for it and not to shill some some shitcoin.

Either way, I see no harm in letting him take over. He is a very smart man and can help Twitter grow. However I see why people are concerned.
I don't like Musk and all that stuff about him shilling Dogecoin, changing opinion about Bitcoin etc, but I am not so sure that Twitter would be any worse if he takes it over as they have been very restrictive lately when it comes to stuff that you can say and not getting banned. The only question is whether he is serious about all that freedom of speech thing or he is just bullshiting, which wouldn't be the first time.

Twitter is considering a corporate defense tactic to fend off Musk.
They are considering launching the so-called 'poison pill'
Movie buffs will understand the meme Cheesy
