I vote for Bitcoin as the "Mass Market Appeal Coin".
I second the vote. Bitcoin is it. Always has been, always will be. Nothing lasts forever, but currently I must agree.

SHA developed and owned by the US and exporting SHA based stuff to countries like Iran is illegal so the devs and the foundation are trying to keep away from trouble. However as far as I know scrypt is a different animal, so Litecoin could be a good alternative.

Single most important thing would be usefulness in real world economy. If I can buy a bread and two pints of milk with XXX (replace XXX with your favorite coin) then it's useful. If not, then it's not quite so useful... (at this moment) ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

That's assuming you're only interested in crypto-currencies to make profit, which in my opinion, is the worst reason to be interested in crypto-currency.
If you want to look at the long run future of a currency you look at what it is used for, what support it has, what innovations it has. Not how much you can dump it for at the most opportune moment.
Yep, you are right. Originally I was interested because of it's technical features and independence. I've seen it as a new beginning in the economy. Later I've learned that I was naive, recently I've learned that the Foundation and the major players want to comply with US regulations, nowadays I've learned that entire BTC ecosystem is being dominated by some of the previously mentioned major players and a lot of speculators, few days ago I've learned that sharks from the fiat world are gathering to get their share. In the meantime the community happily chatting about mostly pointless things and ignoring all the warnings from the old libertarian "core". I have to realize that the whole thing is getting more and more messed up, so I want to grab what I can and run with the bag into a more balanced system. (E.g. eMU looks promising, but maybe I'm just naive again.)

I know only one preferable coin. The one what momentarily makes the most profit for me... and that one keep changing from transaction to transaction. Everything else is just BS or personal sympathy ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . BTW PXC not really good at this moment. There's almost no difference between the sell and buy orders, so you have to trade it in huge quantities to make some profit.

You can "rent" some hashing power from the evil capitalists, investing into their demonic ASIC miners and getting dividends or trading your shares is also a good way to cheat those devils ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

BTC market is was somewhere around 1-1.3 billion USD. The real world demand (I guess) is maximum the half of this value and there is a constant flow of new supply from the miners. If hoarders and the speculative bubbles can absorb the surplus then everything is fine, prices are flying high. If not, then we have an overproduction crisis ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . OK you are right. It was. But there's still more supply then real world demand.

The problem would be mining. You can't create USD out if thin air.
He can: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.therentables.com%2Fblog%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fhelicopter-ben.gif&t=663&c=M5dHlMgOXwr3sw) Yep! You should try to agree with the FED about merged mining ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) .

Won't this open the door for the megabanks to naked short sell in massive quantities like they do with GLD & SLV?
Sorry, I don't know where the original thread is.
That door have been open since the beginning by design ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . The twins just one single whale in the pond and there are more whales and lot's of sharks. So they can make a big fuss but I don't think they can take control. If I'm wrong then we can still escape by swapping to alts ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) .

BTB is a really long term investment and I was built to have more value then any other alt. With time people will forget the premine and start investing in BTB the developer is still active.
True, and also useful as a relative safe haven during big BTC price fluctuations. That's why I like PoS coins ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . I think the active developer is the key, therefore I agree with you, PXC has a future.

Good post, thanks. The background infrastructure one of the best, but it still too volatile. (At this moment I keep my investments in BTB, NVC, and a little in BTG.)
Yikes, BTB ? really... I would get out of that while you can, and what the hell is BTG ? Is that the gem or emerald shit? No offense, I just like talking like a sailor. Take a look at the weekly charts sailor ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . As you will see BTB doubled the gemshit tripled it's value. In the meantime almost all other coins have been on the roller-coaster between zero and next to zero. So I'll quit when the LTC hype will be over ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) .
