3561  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S3+ support on: December 13, 2015, 04:53:15 AM
How long did you give the unit to see your average hashrate? On my S3's it takes about 30mins / 1HR for it to stabilize. Your HW errors seem perfectly reasonable, even at stock its not uncommon to get some HW errors here and there. Id say bump it to 237.5mhz, let it run for an hour, take a screenshot of your miner status page and post back.

I would agree on running for 30 to hour before getting stats.  That 700+ is not true on one S3+ even.

As far as first post the batch one problems were on regular S3's.  So they do not have the S3+ label.  If you have that label you are not having the issues that batch went throught.  It was just batch one of S3's.   A lot just ran under spec.  Some ran perfect at spec.  Just did not know till your ran it.
3562  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do you get free power? on: December 13, 2015, 04:48:16 AM
Some of the users on this forum made posts where they claim to get free power, where do they get this power from?

Suppose, if you have an antminer s7, it can produce 1btc a month.
1btc is around £200.
Hotel accomodation, per night, including electricity and internet: £40
200x6=1200
1200/30=40

So for 6 antminer s7s, you get around £1200 a month.
Convert this into money and you have £40 a night!
Purchase about 10 s7s and you have got yourself £800 a month or more than £20 a night!

Not so bad but needs a high capital!

what a moron brain could ever think that?

And the staff will never wonder why you never let them clean the room or the loud noises other rooms complain about....

It's a idea that will never work.  Hotels are not meant for ton's of electrical usage. You would really surprise me if you could do 6 S7's in 1 hotel room.

They probably wouldn't make too much noise, and If they did, you would be able to try and drown ehm out or even place them in the cupboard. There would be enough plug sockets, I think. Why would staff get suspicious about not being able toclean a room, also, if you book somewhere like a premier inn or travel lodge, they don't tend to not clean the rooms on daily basises anyway!

Which miners have you ran personally?  I don't think you get how loud some can be.  And putting in a cupboard..... would trap exhust with miner so it would be like a box of death getting hotter and hotter.

This will not work in hotel in 90 percent of cases.  And if it does... chances are you paying more for hotel then you make with miners.  They are not geared for a lot of electricity.  And actually chances are you would try it in a motel not hotel.... and it could be one nasty place.  But still not going to get you cheap electricity after paying for room.

Just give them the oven example. When the oven door is closed, the heat go way up and it cook your food. That is identical to what would happen to your miners, they would cook. I'm meeting a lot of people, even IRL that want to get into mining and thats what they usually say;

"Just put it in the storage room." (That has no window or air flow)

Last one yesterday, chained with "I'll just put an AC there" which would just generate more heat since he did not have a way to dump the heat outside. He was going to leave the exhaust in the storage room as well.

Exactly I think what we saw was someone trying to give advice with a signature... .and they did not have proper info to give advice.  They did not understand some miners do make lots of noise... it's in some of their nature.  Granted you can cut it down but a box with no exhaust or intake is one of the worst idea's ever.

The miner will actually be dead silent most likely..... as it will die from hot exhaust getting hotter.... and hotter running in cupboard.
3563  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining still viable? Help me get started on: December 13, 2015, 04:45:10 AM
I have 200$ to invest, how much would I earn from it?

No its not...AntMiner is good opinion for mining...

I recommend to buy bitcoins and invest it somewhere?

https://bitmaintech.com/product.htm

He mentioned 200 dollars so nothing new on miners link there wont do him much good.  He needs to do ROI before jumping into mining.

But 200 is in the used area he could still get a antminer S3 or something.  But not a S7 for that price.
3564  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks open. on: December 13, 2015, 04:44:00 AM
End of day still crazy difficulty.... I hope we go down but don't expect it.

I still wonder on price where we will end up at end of period.  430 right now is not bad.  I'm happy I kept coins through the 230 day's to say the least.
3565  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Budget: €200 - Which miner should I buy as a beginner? on: December 13, 2015, 04:42:38 AM
I'd recommend something smaller for solo mining, since there is not a big difference in odds of mining with a small stick (10GH/s) that consume 2 watts versus 900GH/s that consume 750~ watts, but the later's cost will add up fairly quickly.

I'd recommend a Sidehack stick for little ongoing costs. An undervolted S1 for low initial costs @ 90-140GH/s @ 80-160Watts and THEN a single S3.
Yeah for sure, I was planning on running different rigs for different purposes in the future. I'm thinking a couple of small asics for solo mining and the S3 for mining in a regular pool.
Hoping to get everything running in the nesxt couple of weeks/months Smiley

Great, then.

A sidehack stick could be pretty chill to figuring out solo mining, but the way it is recommended to do it, is just point at a solo pool, so in term of technicality its even simpler than(setting up normal mining) managing regular payouts, since the payouts will not happen. (lol)

Then mining with a S3 on a regular pool to get the hang of managing a mining "operation" is a good idea.

How much do you sell your electricity for?
I forgot to add that excess energy during the day, is 'deducted' from the power used during the night.
Anything that's left after that gets sold at around 0.12 euro per Kwh (per 1000 Kwh)

Thats very expensive for electricity. Buying more solar panel or hydro turbines and selling the excess electricity might be better than mining Bitcoins, because anything over 0.09 per kWh is considered outright "bad" for mining. It would be cheaper to use cloud or coop hosting and those are angled at making money off the hosting (off you).

So you can tell how bad of a situation mining with such a high electric rare would be.
I'm not interested in expanding my solar set-up though, I have limited roof space for one Wink
Plus I'm sure I've left out some information by mistake, since having solar panels has been a bureaucratic mess (subsidies cut every year & taxes added recently).

The price you pay per Kwh is even crazier, just looked it up and it's around 0.23 euro

That is pretty bad on electricity honestly don't go to big if you want to go big look at hosting centers they would do 1/2 easily possibly 1/3 of some compared to your current electricity.

Also these places have no Vats on some of them.  So lot better as far as ROI.  But it would suck to not be able to tinker with them.
3566  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: December 13, 2015, 04:40:11 AM
I could have bought a full batch of BM1384 earlier this year, but I didn't have an extra quarter million dollars. Right now I could sink a quarter thousand dollars on a sample order and not feel bad about it, and I'm hoping I can convince Bitmain that's a good idea. 20 chips would buy me a month of prototyping, at least.

Silence does not mean chips have been sourced. A very loud and excited announcement that chips have been sourced means chips have been sourced. Trust me, that's not something I'd be able to keep secret.

Regarding pods, this week I have to bust out the final Compacs and finish up my hosting expansion. After that, pod prototyping will be priority. However, it's December so I probably won't be working weekends like usual because family and stuff. So, you know, progress will be made but not immediately.

I think that is the problem if you wanted a full batch... it get's attention.   I really like your products and enjoy playing with them so wish I could get them.  But even with crowdsourcing or something a quarter million dollars is still a lot of money.

I hope you could get some prototype chips.  But honestly I'm not sure how receptive they would be knowing you are not looking to buy a batch.   But I keep hoping one day a hear a big yes from someone selling to you.
3567  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 13, 2015, 04:35:41 AM
Stability test it easily made it through the 7 day's I think I will push it and see if it can get further.  But nice to see it up and not shutting down or problems.

The speed some have mentioned cold it's been very cold here during winter.  Also I still need to check one EVGA 1300 it tends to be 11.9 and not 12.  So those to I think likely contributed to it.

Believe it or not that cold is actually with one of my mining area's big fan's broken.  So looks like I need to start shutting some of them down on fan's or use temperature to automatically do on/off operations.
3568  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 13, 2015, 04:32:10 AM
Is it a bad idea to use different PSU with different voltage?  ie I have a HP PSU right now but it's only rated at 1000W and the EVGA.  The 2x DELL PSU breakout board with cables wont arrive for another week.  So run it's running steady at about 12V and 3.370TH.  Not bad but still wanting a min of 3.5 and wouldn't mind 3.7-4TH.  =)

I'm sure there are some who will say they have done it.  But I always have not I like keeping it the same just makes me feel like not a jumble of power.

But the same PSU is definitely preferred. But probley not required as long as you keep them on different blades.
3569  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Columbia Basin Mining - Land offer for Bitcoin Mining on: December 13, 2015, 04:24:08 AM
Columbia Basin Mining is not a farming company, but has a great opportunity to purchase a parcel of land that benefits the company.   Bitcoin mining requires low cost power which we have in the area, and even better is the amount of power available.

Farmland in this area is highly sought after, and the farming community interacts closely with each other.  The personal relationship between our co-founder and the landowner gives us the opportunity to purchase this farmland before it goes onto the market.  The leasing of the land will be done with all the standard farm leasing documents, and will be leased to the highest bidder to a farmer known by us.

In regards to sharecropping, it may be a good system in your location, however it is not the business model used in our area.

Renting the ground gives us a positive cash flow, and does not take away from our priority of bitcoin mining.  If we were to farm the land, we take on a higher risk, with huge unwanted expenses that come with farming.  Also the statement “They get all benefits of landownership without buying it.”  is untrue because the lessor takes on all the expenses for farmland management and the health of the soil for the next farming year.

We are creating a company that has added value beyond bitcoin mining.  This farmland gives the company a great asset, as whereas mining equipment has virtual zero asset value in the end.  This also gives the company multiple exit strategies in the future.

We are seeking investors into the bitcoin mining operation, and all this discussion about farming is taking away from our goal.  If you truly value this opportunity, we be more than pleased to provide our business plan upon signing our Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement.

You keep skipping important questions I ask again:

Did old owner come up with rental terms?  Did you come up with rental terms?  Also is farmer a friend of who did?  Is the renter family relation to someone in CBM?

Please anwser the above question and stop skipping it.  Your rent is not anywhere right almost 40 years to get land paid off... your renting to cheap to someone.   Sharecropping works great.  I will ask how many farms have you dealt with before on renters or sharecroppers?  I don't think many.   Sharecropping is heard of everywhere there is farming it is common.  It benefits landowners rights and pays better as long as your person is actually farming.  Only way it does not work is if the farmer is skipping seasons or not using it.  I feel like your being feed info from a renter as far as the deal on land, or someone that has relationship to renter.

You have to see 40 year pay off on land from rent is to little on rent if that is model you want to go.  I mean heck depending on the land I could get good money on hunting rights I'm guessing with land rental you threw those in for free.   You just don't see all positives of owning land.  If you sharecrop and it's done right you will have multiple farmers who want the land.

Honestly your should go just enough land for bitcoin mining.  If you are not willing to do options that make the land most profitable, there is zero reason to buy it over going and getting a warehouse for much cheaper.

3570  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Budget: €200 - Which miner should I buy as a beginner? on: December 12, 2015, 11:07:59 PM
An advantage that I have is 'free' solar power, with that in mind it might still be profitable?
How much free power do you get from solar? The requirements for any decent mining rig is too high for a normal household solar setup.

Hes going to need free solar.  The bad thing about Europe is the vat/import tax.  It can be a big amount.

So prices of miners in Europe normally are higher then say US.  With 200 you might get S3 or something in Europe do some ROI math though.  I don't think you will get to much newer then S3.  But I could be wrong.  I don't think I am with how Europe is higher on miners.
3571  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining still viable? Help me get started on: December 12, 2015, 11:05:26 PM
I think 350-380 is going to happen, within this year even.
The sudden rise to 420 makes, like most other rises, no sense. It's just manipulation happening and no I don't think it is permanent.

We can speculate all day long and we can not be sure.  But even after a drop we stayed above 400.   Some think that some was removed for Christmas... which makes sense some needing extra cash for holidays.  But they should have already done it or soon most likely on that.

I think 400ish + is here to stay with difficulty changes we are getting.  But I could be wrong.
3572  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would happen if blockchain.info becomes inaccessible? on: December 12, 2015, 09:44:09 PM
First of all, Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I very much appreciate it.

So far, it seems that Blockchain.info is quiet safe. As long as  I understand, blockchain.info does not hold any bitcoin and when the website is abruptly shut down, I can retrieve my coins using open source software with a paper wallet backup.

Trezor looks same in this sense. Trezor provides a seed (consisting of words) and does not hold Bitcoins of users. However, in case Trezor's firmware signing key is hacked and users do not notice it before updating the firmware, there is a chance that a private key is stolen.

For this reason, I do not see any advantage of Trezor over Blockchain.info.

By the way, is there a chance that a private key stored in blockchain.info can be stolen by hacking or unexpected events?

You need, need, NEED to have the paper wallet backup, though. If you haven't gotten it from blockchain, you're not protected.

And treat it as a HOT wallet.  Eventhough it is a paper wallet it is not secure like one you create offline properly it is stored on blockchain site.

So remember that as you put BTC in it that you should not treat it as true cold storage.  I'm afraid of it people thinking they have a secure paper wallet when it still is not a true cold wallet.
3573  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to earn Bitcoins? on: December 12, 2015, 09:42:21 PM
faucets and doing small tasks online

Your signature is better than a faucet that is a waste of time.

small online tasks was also better like here https://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4bitcoins

Becoming educated and doing real work is better than any of those. Work -> buy BTC -> make far more than any other method.

This is always been true.  But still if signature is used properly it is very good. I am on here a lot would be with or without signature.

Since it's a bonus of me being there... it's pretty nice.  But if your posting just to post then yes signature is not a good thing for you.
3574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All the ways to get BTC on: December 12, 2015, 09:40:39 PM
Can you add also to the list that people can earn bitcoin also by selling domains? but not always there is a profit.

This is hard as they can do so many different domains.  If you really went to buy out all domains of a certain one it acctually get's quite pricey.  Granted you hit one someone want's like a big company your in for a huge payday.

But it in no way is easy I don't think to pick domains.  I think a decent amount of start up capital to.
3575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: December 12, 2015, 09:34:23 PM
Any new news on the Pods?  Was hoping the silence meant chips have been sourced or in the works. Roll Eyes

Basically still no chips available. Although I had heard that it took ~3 months for Bitmain to release BM1384 to Sidehack after the S5 was released. Its been ~3 months since the S7 was released. So who knows maybe when S7 sales slow down they will make BM1385 chips available. I think it helps that Bitmain seems to have legitimate competition from Avalon, Spondoolies, and a few others.

It's not that there are not chips.  It's that it is very hard to get chips without spending a massive amount.  If you bought a batch of chips... chances are they would sell it.  But that is a massive amount of capital needed and would really have to go twords big miners not pods.

I hope the chip situation changes as I like sidehacks items.   But I'm afraid it will be a bit on new chips.
3576  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 12, 2015, 09:29:59 PM
Yes price war is good!! I want more Avalons...............let's hope for $1K price!!!  Woot.  Getting ready to order some more of these, really like the noise level and ease of control.

With difficulty rising like it is.  It's honestly hard to say what will happen.  Also it's not just difficulty it's the price of BTC.

I hope BTC goes up personally still.  Considering we were at 230 for the longest time at over 400 is still pretty good.   But it is hurting on difficulty that is for sure on these high periods.
3577  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining still viable? Help me get started on: December 12, 2015, 09:28:37 PM
Listen right now it would not be smart to buy some equipment. The difficulty is going insane. You should either buy some bitcons when they are back at 350 or wait and buy the next generation asics. This moment your can only profit for a few months, then your asics won't generate a lot, unless you've got free electricy offcourse.

Going back to 350  might not happen.  Difficulty has risen to a point where I don't think a drop like that is happening soon.

If anything I see it going up if it follows difficulty.  And difficulty is scary this period... so we will see what happens.

His account is locked as far I know, I think it might have something to do with it

I think a lot of accounts got locked after that hack a while back.  Accounts like Mt. Gox was active and had some hacker trolling board. They were getting on a lot of old special accounts and causing trouble.

That is why we no longer can reset by security word.  If you do it the account locks.  So sadly the locking of a lot of accounts was needed after that hack. (And I could be wrong but I think that last hack had a pretty big factor in some accounts being locked).
3580  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Idea to extract hot air for better cooling efficiency on: December 12, 2015, 07:20:58 PM
I  think it would be quite expensive with these pipes but you can try with a cheaper one..

It depends on quality and what ones you get.  I mean there is insulated, non-insulated, different materials, cost varies greatly depending on which duct you pick.

I personally prefer to use CFM to push it all away from miners.  No duct just have the space to push hot air back past miners.  And extract it from there.
