I think that if it helps people know more it is good journalism.

this story was the greatest embarrassment in 81 years of newsweek. when there is a quest for a hidden person and a journalist comes up with such a thin story dragging out the wrong guy to the world public it is the opposite of "good journalism"

they could have at least asked "is this the real satoshi ?" instead they pretended they had something, but they had nothing.

I love conspiracy theories. Mine is that this whole thing was cooked up by someone in the IC to draw Satoshi out of hiding, which seems to have worked since he logged into his P2P account.

He didn't.
He didn't sign his msg.

It was probably a BTC supporter with some skills.

We have a winner. Going to be really hard to beat this setup.

I agree, will be very HARD to beat that setup!

Damn that 180 gh/s hashing beast. Move, your in the shot girl xD

It is her spot now  Wink
3563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin Remains Impractical, Treasury Will Let It Be on: March 18, 2014, 09:31:25 PM
It's already very useful.
It depends on what you mean by 'truly useful'.

They mean by Bitcoin having good value (as it does) but they control it.
That's when they throw millions or even billions of ass-wipes called dollars to try and take it down.

Will they succeed?
I doubt it.
It is too late for them to step in now....

3564  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: QUICK REPLY NEEDED - Anyone recommend me a safe/Reliable BTC wallet ?? on: March 18, 2014, 09:08:00 PM
There is TrueCrypt (free) and there is Folder Lock (Paid).

Just encrypt a portion of you hard drive and transfer you Bitcoin folder there.
You will need a batch file (shortcut didn't work for me) to point bitcoin-qt.exe to the new directory you have created.

PM me if you need more info.

3565  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ANTMINER S1 powers off when starting to mine on: March 18, 2014, 08:57:51 PM
you can use a PCIe extension cable in reverse polarity for the P4 connector
So I stripped the 4+4 plugs and did it the old fashioned way for one of the blades.
dont strip wires on the PSU, or you can only throw it away when finished with mining
They don't have any other use Wink
you could sell them afterwards Wink

Not where I live.
In fact I cannot even sell miners here.
And I want to sell 4 Ants.

3566  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Nearly burned down my home due to mining equipment failure :( on: March 18, 2014, 08:55:05 PM
How did you put it out? Water?
The fire was in a state which would have caused your house to burn down if you weren't there to intervene, did I get that right? Really sorry to hear that, that's something I'm afraid of all the time. And one of the reasons I won't go big with mining..

Yeah thats right!! I was so happy that i had put up smoke detectors in that room!! or i wouldn't have noticed. used powder fire extinguisher  to get it out!!

i was mining ltc on 2 7950s and 2 7970s and one night i charged my phone in the plug next to my bed instead of the pc and it was very warm..... went out the the rig and it was on the same circuit and that plug was very warm as well. sold 2 of the cards so far.... not worth it and i do not know much about the wiring other than it prolly hasnt been updated in a long long time. i watch over the little gear i have like a new born baby because i cant afford new anything if my place went up in smoke and jusrt for piece of mind.

another time something didnt seem right on that set up and it seemed i was maxing out the psu because the cards werent acting right... 5 min later i had a faint electrical smell, not burning just the real hot smell. ran out to the living room and touched the psus and one was soooo damn hot if i didnt check it it prolly would have started a fire that night.

For the PSU thing you might have had a cheap one or it was overloaded!! have never heard before that the plugs in the wall get hot :/ that must be dangerous !!!

Dont buy cheap china crap!!! That's my rule of thumb..

Oh wow... check your miners.
Where do they come from?

3567  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: March 18, 2014, 08:03:29 PM
I got myself this beast. Added in pull mode, and connected to the second blade. Great static preassure and high CFM. A little noisy but not too bad. Thinking of it as white noise

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001JKNMBE/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At ambient temperature of 80-82F, this reduced the reported ant temperatures from 48/49C to 44/44C while mining at 200GH / 393.75 clock.

When the ant can no longer mine at higher difficulty, this fan will replace the stock fan on my H80i (radiator for the liquid cooler) for keep an OC-ed cpu cool

Can you clarify "added in pull mode" and "connected to second blade"?

I see a single jack for the fan. Did you just replace the factory fan with the one you are linking? With less noise I can order a couple more ants...

Stock fan pushes air into the heat sinks while the second "high cfm/static pressure" fan that I added pulls it out from the sinks. So pull -> venting outward from the ant.

Not sure if you have a single or dual S1, but the ones I got have a fan 4-pin on each blade. Only one shows in web interface but they are both running and judging by the sound, the board is controlling them as needed.

I use extra fans on the other side powered by the molex connections. Working at 100% of course.
Adds up to the electricity bill but also adds to safety Wink

3568  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: March 18, 2014, 08:01:04 PM
Bitmain, is it possible to change the location of your wallet or create a new one? My wallet is not on blockchain.info and I can still receive funds

Bro they are using blockchain API because they can automatically create a new address for each order and therefor track down payments and verify them.
You can check that when you place an order with them.
All they require is 1 confirmation for your payment.

Manually creating a new address is not an option for them when they have so many units to deliver.

I see, thanks for the info
anyone try to checkout at Bitmain now that blockchain.info is partially back up?

None that I have heard of.
But be patient.  Wink

I don't think Newsweek did any irresponsible journalism.
Journalism needs to instigate curiosity, research, quest, inquiry...
Journalism is to help people know more about the world.
If it helps in that it is probably good journalism, even when people that don't like it for some particular reason say it is irresponsible.
Did you study journalism, Andreas? I think you should read some books and study it a bit more in order to make these kind of frivolous accusations. A bit of 'journalism deontology' won't hurt. Have you read any book about journalism, at all?

Did you read any books about human rights?

Yes. I have read Bertrand Russell and Peter Singer, to name a few authors.
Still, I don't see any irresponsible journalism here. I'm sorry you don't seem to like journalism. I do like it very much.

So you find the fact the they have posted personal details about Dorian and his family proper journalism?
Because I can tell you from now that the press and POLICE is protecting real criminals personal information from getting out.

Once again: Is this proper journalism?
Regarding the fact the the journalist had nothing but speculations?

3574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: March 18, 2014, 06:32:02 PM
Change your settings to:
Ip Address: 192.168.1.254
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Then open your favorite browser and point it to 192.168.1.99

If that doesn't work do a hard reset.
And try again.
Have fun Wink

That is correct! If your computer is on 192.168.2.254 and the Ant is on 192.168.1.99
they won't see each other.
You've already done one or more hard resets, work on connecting to the ant now

Sorry I didn't know he/she did a hard reset already.
My bad  Smiley
3575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: March 18, 2014, 06:27:08 PM
I bought a 650w psu for only 1 antminer, updated java, hard restarted the miner...still nothing.
My ipv4 settings are
Ip-address: 192.168.2.254 (different from miner)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.2.1
Also my 'obtain DNS server address automatically' button is greyed out, even though the guide says it needs to be checked.
Any ideas?

Assuming the sticker on the miner says 192.168.1.99
Are you able to ping that address with the miner connected with an ethernet cable to your computer?
What happens now when you try to browse to 192.168.1.99?

Change your settings to:

Ip Address: 192.168.1.254
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Then open your favorite browser and point it to 192.168.1.99

If that doesn't work do a hard reset.
And try again.
Have fun Wink

OK, maybe I didn't get it right but why reverse the stock fan when you can reverse an additional fan on the other side? (push - pull)

Only Bitcoin-QT is secure.
Connect every month to network and it's all.

Not unless you keep it in an encrypted drive.
