3561  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Education:Can You Volunteer in El Salvador or Central African Republic? on: June 01, 2022, 07:14:16 AM
If you have the opportunity, would you volunteer to teach Bitcoin education in El Salvador or Central African Republic?

No.
If you're young, if you have no family that relies on you then it's a great opportunity: you travel, you see new places, you meet new people, you work in a field with great future, you do what you like.
But I'm not young and doing this would mean to either stay away from my family for (too) long, either get them with me, meaning also the children have to start school in another language.

I guess that OP is young, but he should realize that this is quite a niche opportunity, it's great for some, but a clear no-go for most.
3562  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Project Idea Involving 300 KVA Transformer on: June 01, 2022, 07:05:50 AM
The previous post got it pretty good:
* it depends on the prices in your area
* it depends on what other offers you get or you can get (COVID is over, businesses may slowly start expanding, but it may be slow)
* it depends on the legal status of bitcoin mining in your place
* it depends on the electricity contracts/status in relation with mining in your area (I'm not so much technical, but I'd guess that electricity still has to be bought)
* I don't know whether the noise is or not a problem

There are plenty of things you know / you have to think about. Ah, and it also depends on how badly and fast you need the money too.
Really, it's not so much of advice we could give - whether the offer is good or bad - since it depends greatly on local things.

And although the answer is imho completely irrelevant (I don't live in America), I'll still give it:
I would probably accept the offer, since it would mean I'd almost double my monthly income.
3563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Usual phishing warning on: June 01, 2022, 06:39:06 AM
Never rely on Google links, specially ads. Trust only official links, even then be cautious because official communication channels can and do get hacked.

Exactly.
One rule about crypto links I've found out long ago is to look for the ANN page on bitcointalk, where that's possible (it exists), or at least the link itself on bitcointalk (since people could have been telling about it already).
If it's not here, it usually doesn't worth the hassle (scam or worthless)
3564  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Split: How do I retrieve Bitcoin bought in 2010 on: May 31, 2022, 03:52:09 PM
but was there a custodial BTC wallet in 2010 besides Bitcoin-Qt/Core?

You meant non-custodial, right?
If so, it's a very good (and tough) question, since even blockchain.info seems to be alive only since 2011...
3565  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Four (4) Tips On How I Handle Criticism on Bitcointalk Forum on: May 31, 2022, 10:00:27 AM
How do you deal with criticism on Bitcointalk forum?

By learning more. As simple as that. And maybe by having a more mature view on the forum.

I was criticized in many occasions by people more technical than me, just because I tried to help, but, because I was not knowledgeable enough, I failed or made mistakes.
Meanwhile I've learned a lot more, I've learned from some, I've put others on ignore (it helps sometimes Wink) and .. "grew up".

Now I know that everybody has the right for having an opinion, no matter how wrong that is. Now I know that different people have different standards.
3566  Other / Meta / Re: Top Answer Feature on Beginners and Help Board on: May 31, 2022, 09:53:49 AM
or question/answer format.

This would open the door for a feature like what OP has been asking indeed (nice idea!).

For the rest, as I said, I fear that it has better chance to look unprofessional than actually be helpful. And to avoid this, I think that the most useful approach can be user scripts. (But I fear that if one can make use of the user scripts, he can also find better ways to search too).
3567  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is effort in the context of pools when finding a new block? on: May 31, 2022, 07:41:12 AM
In a pool when you mine a block you usually see the stats about it like for example its height, the difficulty you used to mine it, and so on.

I can understand all these things, but some pools also include a metric called effort, which is a percentage. This number can be anything, even higher than 100%, for example 1726%, or 6%.

What does this metric mean?

Iirc from the days I've been mining it's a wildly rough estimation based on the time needed by that pool to find the previous block or blocks.
A simplistic math would say that if that pool got previous block in 2h and now they're mining for 1h, then it's 50% of their estimated effort. If 3h have passed and still no block found, then it's 150%.
3568  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it worth buying a crypto with a value of 0.23? on: May 31, 2022, 07:38:14 AM
It is a currency with a very high appreciation ratio, starting at 0.23. In your opinion, is it worth starting with this type of currency?

The price is not enough information for deciding this. Even more, high appreciation sounds like FOMO.
It may be a trap. Even more, since Bitcoin price goes up, some altcoins (most) will also go up.

This topic may be more appropriate for Altcoins section.

2. list of words
This must be a seed phrase

I would be surprised to see that somebody has been using seed phrase in 2010. BIP39 seems to exist only since September 2013.

The 64 characters are not in hexadecimal format.

This could have been the private key. If it's not a hexadecimal string it's even more difficult to guess what could it be.
I've seen this YouTube movie about buying Bitcoin for PayPal from CoinPal and the long string was the transaction ID which doesn't help much in recovering your funds (you can only find from there your address and the content of it).
Maybe you have more information in your e-mail?

Since you said "custody", there may be that you've used some custodian web wallet. I've found on Reddit some names, maybe they'll help you remember something, but those are long gone, together with your money (since in a custodian system you have an account, they have your money)

Most, if not all, vanished along the way. There was MyBitcoin, Instawallet, Bitcoinica, MtGox, BitFloor, Cryptoxchange and at least a few others. Some were just wallets and some were exchanges as well that people often mistakenly used as wallets.
3570  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Learning from the dip on: May 31, 2022, 07:13:40 AM
2. Never borrow money to invest in cryptocurrency: This is a big risk and may cause serious issue if bearish continues and more dip is seen.

It's more than that. It's also about "money you don't afford to lose", as we keep saying. It means that if you think that you'll need that money badly in the next months you better stay away. If you don't do that, especially together with point 1 on that list, then you're the perfect target: FOMO-bought high, then got scared for your money (since you don't afford to lose) and sold. Then the price can go up: rinse and repeat.
3571  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Ruble Surpasses Brazil’s Real as Year’s Best-Performing Currency on: May 31, 2022, 07:09:00 AM
At the moment, the russian ruble is up 11% versus the US dollar and rated the #1 performing currency of the year.

Since what we have there is far from what we could call free market, since the ruble going up is a blatant scam/market manipulation, I don't know why we should compare that "performance" with anything else.
It's (yet another) highly cunning move from the Russians. Since some weaklings have accepted to pay in rubles for the already overpriced gas and oil, they'll pay even more, since the ruble is "strong". It would be funny if it wouldn't be so painfully sad. More money for Putin's war effort...
3572  Other / Meta / Re: Top Answer Feature on Forum on: May 31, 2022, 06:26:27 AM
The top answer is not necessarily the one with the most merits. One example can easily be that somebody goes somewhat off-topic and that "branch" gets more merit.
Also in many cases the best answer goes unmerited, like the whole topic.

And, most important: this is a discussion forum, not a "fix my problem" forum, hence in many cases/topics there cannot be a best answer because the topic itself was not a question (and automatically picking an automated answer would look unprofessional at best).
3573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: May 31, 2022, 05:57:40 AM
I think the racer of the day was Sainz.

Well, he could have taken risks at the end and try to win the race, but he didn't.
Imho there were more drivers deserving to be driver-of-the-day:
* Sainz for being smart at changing tyres
* Checo for beating Max in qualifying and for winning the race
* Alonso for keeping Lewis behind him for so long, although the Mercedes is a pretty good car now

Also I'd add a worthy special mention: Leclerc race strategist (or whatever the name is) beautifully deserves the golden raspberry for his "performance".

The Americans, owner of the F1, they already said:
Or Monaco will change or it will be removed from the circus.

They don't care about the history they care about the money and they will make more with tracks in the USA.

Indeed, money talks. And I think that certain regions are promising this or that just to see F1 going there too. Also certain automakers want publicity in new regions.
But Monaco is part of F1 history and it's still considered the jewel of the crown. It's hugely unsafe (and I'm surprised the rainy Sunday didn't go worse), but I still hope it won't be just left out because all of this.
3574  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A world with no room for vulnerability. on: May 30, 2022, 09:30:35 PM
While it's indeed a world where too many want to sell you something, scam you or find a way to profit, generalizing makes you be wrong.
There are also plenty of people eager to help out, especially if one is vulnerable or in trouble.

But all this is the human nature. Nothing has change in the last 1000s of years; it's just that
* advertising and scammers can reach you faster
* human contact is diminished (usually by choice!) and vulnerable people usually need somebody in person to "be there"
* media will spam you with all the wrongdoing in the world because shocking sells, and they have advertising to sell

But again, nothing new really.
One needs friends. Good friends. As many as possible. Then, if one betrays you in a way or another, there will be the others to help out.

However, this kind of discussion is too general and not Bitcoin related; you may want to move it to Off topic, or Politics, I don't know... (see bottom-left link)
3575  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: trouble with bitshield on: May 30, 2022, 09:21:34 PM
i am having a similar issue as many with bitshield wallet it lets you recieve but not send i downloaded electrum but my bitsheild recover phrase isnt working in electrum to recover the wallet someone please help

No matter you try to recover the wallet on PC or Android, there is an option (button) you have to find and check BIP39 for your seed.
On Android there's a settings wheel on top of the same view where you have to enter the seed phrase.
On PC, under the box you enter the seed there's an Options button for the same reason.

Please let us know if you managed to get to your funds.
Also it may be better to not share same seed between wallets and (especially if you're on PC, since there it's easy) you better generate a new seed and transfer your funds there.
However, make sure your system is not infected, you downloaded Electrum from Electrum.org and you've verified it.
3576  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: SeedSigner: Review on: May 30, 2022, 05:02:42 PM

Nice review!
It looks like a wonderfully nice toy, it's on my wish list too for some while, for when my HW dies or Pi Zero will be again in stock in my country, whichever comes first.
Until then the software should also get more mature + maybe Electrum will also implement the missing feature(s).

I'm assuming the dearest piece of kit here is the camera, which might not be necessary for users that don't want to scan QR codes? Since, most other hardware wallets don't offer this, you could potentially even argue that this is an additional expense that isn't really needed. I guess the convenience is there if you need it though.

Camera + screen are the two directions/devices for transferring information between SeedSigner and the hot wallet. Both are crucially important.
3577  Local / Presa / Re: Hackathon Supernova 10 Mai - 20 Iunie 2022 on: May 30, 2022, 03:21:22 PM

3578  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wise Sayings That Are Applicable To Cryptocurrency on: May 30, 2022, 03:11:19 PM
I will add the one mostly said after the price drops dramatically: "the time to buy is when there's blood in the streets".
It seems that it was said by Nathan Rothschild.
3579  Economy / Services / Re: 💰💰💰💰 SALE OF CRYPTOPHARM BOT AND SCHEMES FOR EARNING BITCOINS💰💰💰💰 on: May 30, 2022, 03:05:17 PM
Just look at the oddly changing tone between his other post ( https://ninjastic.space/topic/5400750 ) and this one.
He's clearly fishing for greedy newbies.

Everybody reading this: if it looks too good to be true, it's most probably a scam, remember?
3580  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin wallet generator and balance checker on: May 30, 2022, 03:00:38 PM
I find this kind of tools very important for newbies, with a couple of notes:

* this kind of tool will show you how small is the chance for getting an address collision; one has bigger chance to win lotto many week-ends in a row than getting a collision; still newbies may want to see for themselves
* if one tries to use this kind of tool he has to be aware that he will consume electricity that costs money
* if (by incredible luck) one finds a collision he should think very good if he indeed wants to spend that money (since that would be stealing)
