In this IPL, KKR, Delhi Capitals, SRH, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, these five teams' dreams of IPL 2023 qualifiers are over.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) lost their playoff chances completely after a 15-run defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) yesterday. If Punjab kings could have won in tomorrow's match, they would have had 14 points in 13 matches, so they could have achieved the fifth position in the points table. But with the defeat yesterday, this possibility of Punjab Kings also ended. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have won, but their playoff spot is already in doubt. So a win or loss in yesterday's match could not bring any benefit for the playoffs.

At this point, Gujarat Titans are assured of a spot in the playoffs. In case of Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, there is more than a 90% chance. The fight for the 4th spot is going to be between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Three more teams can qualify for the playoffs in very unlikely scenarios, but the chances are less than 10%. What surprises me is the situation with Rajasthan Royals. They started the season with a bang, winning most of the matches in the first half. But then they lost steam mid-way and now it is very unlikely that they will not qualify for the playoffs.

Maybe, to me it doesn't look like the overconfidence. It looked like lack of experience, if not surely they could've won atleast the third match after coming this closer. They had a plan, on execution they failed. Playing few more series against top teams will make them progress well and learn how to handle similar match situations. Already the Gujarat Titans team manager Vikram Solanki have confirmed about Joshua Little back to the team after the Bangladesh series.

Good to hear that Josh Little is back to the Indian Premier League. Ireland management need to understand that IPL stints can be life-changing for their players. They asked Little to join their squad while the IPL was still on, and it cost him around $150,000 (a wild guess, given his contract value is around $536,000). And even with Little present in their squad, they failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup through the direct route. In the end, Little's presence didn't had much of an impact, although the player himself suffered financially.

^^^ Among this list, it is Trent Boult who stands out. New Zealand has at least half a dozen quality pacers, including Southee, Jamieson, Milne, Henry and Wagner. Despite all that, Boult constantly tops their bowling charts. In case of Sandeep Lamichhane and Rashid Khan, it is mostly due to lack of competition from their own team. The same can be said about Mustafizur as well. Other Bangladeshi pacers are not as the same level as him. And among the five bowlers in this list, Rashid and Sandeep are the only youngsters (i.e less than 25 years old).

In the last over where 11 runs were needed to win, Cameron Green managed to score only two runs from four balls. I would say that mainly because of Cameron Green's failure, Mumbai Indians lost this match.

Why blame Cameron Green? What about the other batsmen? Green faced just 6 balls and scored 4 runs. On the other hand, Nehal Wadhera faced a total of 20 deliveries to get to his 16, and Suryakumar Yadav got to 7 from 9 balls. And don't forget the contribution from Vishnu Vinod as well (2 runs from 4 balls). When the middle order failed to keep up with the required run rate, it will be unfair to blame Green for the loss. If he was sent ahead of Nehal and Vishnu, then yes. But he batted at no.7 and got just two overs at the end.

News from England is that Jonny Bairstow has been included for the test against Ireland. He will be replacing Ben Foakes as the wicket-keeper. But there are quite a few setbacks for the Poms. James Anderson has been included in the squad, but he has been suffering a minor groin strain and was forced to retire from the recent county championship match for Lancashire last week. Jofra Archer has been ruled out of this season, as his stress fracture has recurred. In case Anderson and Archer are not fit, then the England pace attack will be led by Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Ollie Robinson along with the evergreen Stuart Broad.

I do not agree with you about the factors and comparing Qatar with America, we know getting a visa to enter the USA is more complicated, especially for people from some countries with a bad reputation and bad relations with the USA but I think America will make an exception and some special rules for the people who come to visit this country for watching the worth cup games. That's why I don't think if there will be a problem with getting a visa.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, USA is one of those countries which favor illegal immigrants over legal immigrants. If you apply for a legal visa, you need to wait for 3-4 years to get a hearing. An easier route is to travel to Mexico and then jump the fence over Mexico-US border. Every year millions of illegal immigrants take this step. Now I don't know whether the Americans will ease visa rules for the FIFA World Cup of 2026. If they don't do so, then I don't expect a large attendance from third world nations such as India and Indonesia.
3567  Economy / Economics / Re: 199,983 companies went bankrupt in Europe because of the energy crisis in 2022 on: May 17, 2023, 06:18:56 AM
Since the beginning of the energy crisis, I knew that we were going to see some businesses going down to their closure in Europe. But I first assumed that those companies were going to have something to do with the importation and refining of natural gas.

Nonetheless, after giving a look to the massive increase of the electricity in Europe, specially during the coldest days of last Winter. I would not be surprised if those companies had nothing to do with energy and yet could not pay their operative costs, and electricity bill.   Sad

It is sad when people who have no say on political matters, gets affected this way.

Europe brought this crisis on to themselves with their stupid policies. Nuclear energy is the cheapest and most environmentally friendly form of energy and for the last 1-2 decades the European governments have been trying to close down nuclear powerplants and replace them with energy from more polluting sources such as lignite and coal fired powerplants. And the joke is that Green Party is spearheading this campaign. The propaganda against nuclear energy has resulted in increased prices of electricity, closure of industries and more importantly, massive pollution to the environment.

The way Mumbai started their innings, I don't think they will lose this match. LSG collected only 35 runs in 6 overs of the powerplay, while Mumbai collected 58 runs without losing a wicket. After 10 overs, LSG collected only 68 runs. Mumbai's collection was 92 runs. But even then there was a slump in Mumbai's batting. Mumbai collected only 1 run in the 13th over. This is one of the reasons for Mumbai's defeat. Despite having plenty of experienced batsmen in the squad, Mumbai lost the match by just 5 runs. Nehal Wadhera got out after collecting only 16 runs off 20 balls. Batting like that stupidly makes it difficult to win the match.

Nehal Wadhera, Vishnu Vinod and Suryakumar Yadav struggled against the spinners (Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya). In a match where the required run rate was over 9 runs per over, 8 overs from these two bowlers only saw 53 runs being scored. And Bishnoi took the important wickets of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Captaincy from Krunal Pandya was exceptional. He made the bowling changes at the right time, with the right bowler. Apart from the 19th over (which was bowled by Naveen-ul-Haq), Krunal's tactics worked perfectly well.

Rohit is not doing that badly as an opener. He made an okay contribution with the bat in BGT against Australia and all of those runs came in tough pitches, not flat decks. Also don't forget that series (except the last match) was low scoring series for everyone.

Again i don't think we have a backup of Pujara yet unless management moves Gill to down the order. Changes in the squad will follow soon, just give it time, it's bound to happen in a year or so.

Pujara is doing well in county cricket, and I guess he will be OK in the WTC final. Don't think that Gill will be able to perform down the order. He is suited to the role of opening batsmen, and doesn't have the consistency while batting down the order. Whatever experimentation the selectors want to do, they need to do that during the West Indies tour. South Africa tour is going to be tough. If all the Protean players are available (i.e injury free), then for the first time in many years the Indian batsmen would have to deal with raw pace in seam-friendly conditions.
3570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 17, 2023, 05:25:13 AM
The 178-run target looked like a target of 200-plus runs for MI. The last two overs by LSG and the failure of SKY, according to me, were the reasons why MI lost to LSG. The last over by Mohsin Khan was outstanding. Tim David and Cameron Green were a big disappointment whereas Marcus Stoinis and Pandya were the reasons why LSG was able to get 178 runs on a tough pitch for batting.

MI is the same team who used to make totals of 200 plus against quality opponents. And they were on the right track yesterday. When Ishan Kishan got out, they were at 103/2 after 11.1 overs. At this point, they needed just 75 runs from 8.5 overs, with 8 wickets to spare. But then their downfall started. First Suryakumar Yadav, and then Nehal Wadhera wasted a lot of deliveries. And then it reached a point where the required run rate shot up to 12 runs per over. Some big hits from Tim David brought down the RRR, but then the last over disaster sunk them.
3571  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Being Russia and Russian now on: May 17, 2023, 04:30:27 AM
Well, can you refute this article, because it is also based on facts? It seems not, and you are not even going to do it, it is easier for you to reject the article in its entirety and say that it is custom-made. This is a reliable sign that you are politically engaged and are in a bubble of pro-Western propaganda.

You can list "facts" as much as you like that there are some difficulties in Russia. Of course they are. Such a huge and complex economy cannot simply be turned from west to south and east at the snap of a finger without some difficulties and overlaps. But the main thing has already happened - instead of falling apart and begging the West for mercy, the Russian economy has withstood the sanctions strike and is even showing growth. Try to disprove this fact. Grin

Both the sides seems to have overestimated their own capabilities. Russia, at least initially thought that they will be able to conquer all of Ukraine with just 120,000 to 160,000 soldiers (when Ukraine have close to 2 million soldiers including reserves). Western nations also thought that the Russian economy will collapse in a few months and all the world nations would join them in embargoing Russia. Both cases didn't happened. Even within Europe, Turkey refused to join the sanctions against Russia and has emerged as one of the top importers of Russian hydrocarbons.
3572  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: May 17, 2023, 04:11:57 AM
Last over need 11 runs to win but Cameron Green and Tim David batting history.
19.1 faced by C. Green , no run , Why didn't he collect a single run and give a strike to Tim David?
19.2 faced by Green, 1 run.
19.3 faced by Tim David, Mumbai Indians could have won today's match if he had not taken this single run and stayed on strike.
19.4 faced by Green, No run, no words can consoled Funs of MI.
19.5 faced by Green , single, worthless single..
19.6 faced by Tim David, 2 runs and already defeated by 5 runs ...

The third ball was very crucial. Instead of taking one run, Tim David should have kept the strike. If he did so, then the equation would have been 10 runs from 3 balls (not impossible, given the fact that David scored 19 runs from the previous over, which was bowled by Naveen-ul-Haq). Instead of doing that, he put Cam Green back on strike, and he really struggled against the accurate bowling of Mohsin Khan. The first mistake they made was in 17th over, when Vishnu Vinod was sent instead of Green. If Green was sent instead, he would have got some time to settle in and score runs.
3573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: May 17, 2023, 04:01:27 AM
I agree that Croatia aren't one of the teams to be underestimated at all. First of all it is true that they haven't been much successful in Euro tournaments recently. They couldn't even get past 1/8-finals twice in the most recent tournaments. However their performance in the recent two World Cups has been very impressive. First the finale and this time semi finals.

With the player pool they have it isn't impossible for them to have a good success in a Euro tournament also finally. There are really skilled Croatian players now and my expectation level from them has increased by their nice work in the latest World Cup.

They just need to break a leg finally by Euro 2024. They have the potential to play for the finale.

Well.. if they are skilled enough to reach the final of FIFA World Cup in 2018, and semi-final of the 2022 edition, then repeating the same in Euro 2024 is not going to be something that is impossible. In general, most of the UEFA teams are undergoing a decline. Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Danmark are a few examples. Croatia is one of the few teams (along with France and England) who are moving in the other direction. But I would like to see how they sustain this growth in the long term, given the location of the country within Europe and the extremely small population size.

It's good news for the game of cricket as now we have too many countries are interested in franchise cricket specially which are economically strong because this will help them and also few other boards which will be able to send their players here in these leagues for experience and money as well but sadly here we have one issue we have no luxury like soccer as too many leagues can go through once and all have equal fanbase even this is possible but surely going to take good time.

MCA is surely doing good, and they can do much better than many countries but here I want they try to have support from few other regional countries as well which will create good interest in this region like they have Southeast Asian games franchise like this surely can help them better financially with fanbase could be also huge.

Don't know whether it makes economic sense to have franchise T20 leagues in these small countries. Even full member nations such as South Africa and Sri Lanka struggled to launch their T20 leagues. The main issue is that a lion's share of the revenue comes from India, and I don't think that countries such as Malaysia have a good potential to earn cricket revenues from the domestic market. And when they are dependent on India for the revenues, it is important to have players from India. And that is tricky, given the BCCI's rejection of overseas T20 leagues.

FACTS again:
1. India is the largest buyer of the oil of the terrorist country, Urals brand.

2. Yes, China has recently increased its purchases a little, but India, as it has been, has remained the most important buyer of oil from the country of the terrorist.

3. India trades with Russia (as part of the world show "de-dollarization"  Grin Grin Grin ) in Indian rupees, which is not the first time the "fraternal people of Russia" squeals Smiley You can deny the reality, but done between Russia and India go in Indian rupees, between Russia and China - in Chinese yuan. Without Russia's right to exchange them for the dollars she critically needs!

4. Yes, the Indian government buys oil for a penny and sells it to its people at the market price, "I was talking about this Smiley

1. No. If you combine sea-borne and pipeline crude oil exports, China is the no.1 exporter and they are far ahead of India in terms of volumes. For Urals grade, India may be no.1, as China mostly purchases ESPO, Sokol and Arctic grades.

2. This is applicable only for Urals grade, which is also being purchased by China, Turkey and Bulgaria.

3. As per government data, the last time India traded with Russia using INR was back in March 2023. Russians refused to trade in INR after that and we have been using AED ever since.

4. You were saying that we re-export the Russian crude. That is not the case. Russian crude is refined and used for domestic consumption within India.

Agreed, the team that were able to reach 100 runs in the 11th over unable to score another 77 runs in 56 balls is really poor batting performance. Simple, the team is much depending on few players. I haven't gone into the statistics, but in most of the Matches in which Suryakumar Yadav played well is a win for Mumbai Indians. Today even with the best batsmen on the crease and unable to win scoring 11 runs in the last over is a big disappointment for the Mumbai Indians team supporters.

Mumbai failed to do the most basic thing in the last match. They should have made sure that Tim David gets the strike for a maximum number of deliveries. But the opposite happened. In the last over, he got to face just 1 out of the 6 balls. David was in fine form, and in the 19th over (which was bowled by Naveen-ul-Haq) he managed to score 19 runs. If he faced Mohsin Khan during the last over instead of Cameroon Green, then Mumbai would have won the match easily. But a lot of things went wrong for Mumbai in the last 4 overs, beginning with the decision to send Vishnu Vinod ahead of Green and Jordan.
3577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: May 17, 2023, 03:03:48 AM
It's the other way around. Trump is afraid of DeSantis.

Trump is on the offense against DeSantis because he knows that DeSantis is the type of conservative Trump aspired to be and failed at. Biden is a senile vegetable and should not have even come close to winning against an incumbent like Trump. As with most matters, Trump shot himself in the foot and Biden won (the MSM propaganda didn't help, but I digress).

If we are to take polling into account (and betting markets if that's your thing), DeSantis is the person that would beat Biden.

Trump is someone who lost the POTUS elections once, and that too against someone who is suffering from medical issues. I don't really think that he should be nominated by the GOP for a third time. He is not young either. By the end of the next term, he will be 82 years old. The same arguments that are being put against Biden, are applicable for Trump as well. Some of the GOP supporters don't like Trump, but would still agree to give him another chance just for making sure that conservative vote doesn't get split. I don't agree with this strategy. It is more like blackmail.
3578  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: May 17, 2023, 02:53:07 AM
Totally disappointed by Mumbai indians batsmen(Cameron) in last over as this was must win for MI to qualify for Playoff. The start was so good and i was thinking that MI will easily win this match. Ishan and Rohit contributed well to give a stunning start to their team and david also. unfortunately Surya did not scored. If he faced more than 20 balls then he has ability to score fast runs and my favorite batsmen for t20 format. MI should now win next match or they will be out from playoff because RCB are looking in great foam and Runrate is better than MI. If they win their next match then both team points will be level.

Rohit Sharma made many tactical mistakes during the end overs, and it cost his team dearly. When Nehal Wadhera got out, 47 runs were needed from 4 overs. Instead of sending in Cameroon Green, he sent the inexperienced Vishnu Vinod. He wasted several deliveries and failed to provide strike to Tim David. And when Cameron Green came to crease only 2 overs were remaining. In the final over, they needed 11 runs to win, and it was being bowled by the inexperienced Mohsin Khan. But then, the in form batsman (Tim David) got to face only one out of the six balls.
3579  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 17, 2023, 02:43:05 AM
They should if they want to extend their test career for a couple of more years, it's more important for Rohit. Virat is fit so he can still go on.

If money and their commitment to their franchise are a concern then they can play IPL and there is no problem at all but almost everyone rightly believes that young blood should chip in the national white ball setup. Having said that i hope BCCI takes these 2 guys into confidence and talk, unlike the Gangully-Kohli drama.

No one will complain as long as these senior guys score runs regularly. At this point, only Virat is scoring runs and others are being inconsistent, including Rohit, Pujara and Rahane. And it makes zero sense to retain non-performers in the test squad, when so many talented youngsters are waiting for their chances. The very fact that Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sarfaraz Khan haven't made the test debut yet, points to the uselessness of performing in the Ranji Trophy competition. These players have been performing consistently in domestic cricket over the years. It doesn't make sense to retain senior players year after year, despite not scoring runs.
3580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: May 17, 2023, 02:33:09 AM
I don't understand this love for Trump at all, makes no sense to me. As we all know Trump could go out all by himself, no questions, no debate, just him, and he would still lose votes when he does that, that is exactly what happened when he was the president.

When he got elected, that was a lot of people not wanting to vote for Hillary, that was the main reason, people who would normally vote for the democrat candidate, didn't went out to vote for Hillary. After Trump got elected, people saw their mistake and a record breaking number of people voted for Biden, you think that was because Biden was good? Of course Biden is not good, of course he can't put two sentences back to back that makes sense, he sucks, but people hate Trump more than they like Biden, that's the key. How could someone not see that?

Ever since 2016, a majority of voters in the POTUS elections have voted for a candidate not because they like him or his policies, but because they oppose and hate the opposing candidate. Happened with Trump in 2016. He won because there was a massive wave against Hillary. And in 2020, Trump was at the receiving end. There was a massive wave against him, and this enabled Biden to win. And in 2024, once again it is going to be the same. Biden has record disapproval ratings as of now, and if Trump participates in the election, then a lot of voters will chose him just because they hate Biden.
