3581  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: mining is crap, the blockchain should compensate for electricity costs otherwis- on: December 12, 2015, 07:12:59 PM

Sell the S1 to someone with free or cheap electricity.  There is no way with regular electricity it makes sense to run a S1.

Better yet get yourself an extension cord then plug it in a public establishment, or bring it in your office and mine there.

At least thats what Im doing with my old miners.  Grin

In a lot of cases this would cause loss of job.  Bringing in unauthorized equipment in a lot of places is a no-no.

I'm not sure what type of place you work in but normally these outside devices scare companies.  And they will want to keep them off of the network.
3582  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining still viable? Help me get started on: December 12, 2015, 07:11:06 PM
I have 200$ to invest, how much would I earn from it?

Honestly man I'd just avoid the mining game altogether. Even with free electricity it's noisey, hot , loud and generally shit.
You also have to take bandwidth into consideration and $200 worth of mining gear isn't going to get you very far.
However.. If you are hell bent on mining I would suggest maybe cloudmining on eobot.
Its a cloud mining website that allows you to mine any listed crypto with your GH/s

You can see my profile here: https://www.eobot.com/user/300972

It makes Free doges for me every day which I use to buy more GH/S Increasing profits!
I would suggest to stay away from cloud mining providers. Most of them have proven to be ponzi schemes.

Currently buying bitcoins and holding onto it is more profitable than mining.

eobot is not one I would invest with.  Look and see if companies have hardware.  If you cant find a vouch, or them being tied to a hardware maker something is off chances are.

Sadly a lot of cloud mining is scam.  So you must put in a good amount of research.
3583  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Gigantic difficulty jump of the last few days (speculation) on: December 12, 2015, 07:09:09 PM
Maybe it could be possible that BITMAIN has increased the shipping rate of the Antminer S7's.

We can guess all day long.  But wer really don't know what it is.  That is part of having a industry where most companies are private.

There is open as far as blockchain.  But what companies have or are doing in most cases is not a open book, they want to be ahead of competition.
3584  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Making backup's suggestion on: December 12, 2015, 04:32:03 PM
Well, I use save my private keys in a password manager like KeePass and save it with a password. Then I export the storage file and save it on a stick or even at an end-to-end encrypted cloud provider.

Are you saying you keep your backup on the "cloud'?  Even encrypted... I would NEVER store online.  Just a bad spot if that is what you mean.

Look into offline options.  It's much better offline then cloud will ever be.
3585  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The best cloud mining site !!! on: December 12, 2015, 04:29:07 PM
In the past mining were actually better. Cloud mining especially, I was eager to invest in it because of how hyped I was but Cloud mining is extremely risky.
You have to be sure that it is legit cloud mining and not virtual ponzi scheme. You may want to see pictures of hardware, know mining address, datacenter locations etc. before investing.

There was a time 3 month was guaranteed but now cloud or hardware it's not guaranteed.   Reserch the cloud mining before doing it, but there are a few good ones out there.

If someone promises ROI.  Or things that sound to good to be true, avoid that cloud mining site.  A lot of them get people with promising terms to good to be true.
3586  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks open. on: December 12, 2015, 04:20:43 PM
Bitwisdom is a scary number to see.... I did not expect to see that.  Is this cray numbers the new norm?

I like the btc price of 426, but wish difficulty would slow down.  I want to mine some more coins before it does these jumps.
3587  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining still viable? Help me get started on: December 12, 2015, 04:18:52 PM

What is your electricity price?  This will be a big factor.  You need "free" or cheap to make 200 dollar area work.

200 is not very big for new gear, so used is only choice.  So you need electricity price where used gear can be used.
3588  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: mining is crap, the blockchain should compensate for electricity costs otherwis- on: December 12, 2015, 04:17:35 PM
-e whats the point there should be compensation to cover the costs of mining the fee structure should be raised so what if the fee is 1 cent thats still better than paying 30% on bank fees

i can't even mine at home anymore well i can but i would be at a net loss whats the incentive???

well years ago it was worth it but as mining becomes industrial even the industrials will lose the incentive at least let the [Suspicious link removed]pensate for 50% electricity costs something needs to be done i want to mine again with my dusty s1

satoshi really fucked up on the fee structure he should of calculated it to scale with electricity costs bitcoin will be doomed otherwise... no miners... no security... no transaction process

You would need to get new gear.  You cannot expect generations old gear to work today in normal situation.  You cant unplug a miner for a long period then want to mine it again.

Sell the S1 to someone with free or cheap electricity.  There is no way with regular electricity it makes sense to run a S1.
3589  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 12, 2015, 04:13:54 PM
That is the great thing I'm learning about hardware wallets.  It seems they take out the hassle of holding safely.  I have always been a strong paper wallet person.  And they are still great if done right, and that is the key thing if done right.

The only way to lose your btc it seems is if you store the recovery words insecure.   It gives you recovery words so if lost/stolen you can get a new one and easily restore.   It comes with a card in a very nice woven holder (again on luxury the holder is not a cheap feeling thing) but you store it in that.  I would suggest that goes to safety deposit box or something close to that.

So with that being only weakness that is pretty amazing as far as spending.  I'm really turning into a pro-hardware wallet person.

Yeah, my plan was to take the seed to a safe deposit box, Smiley.

The videos they have are pretty good actually.  They have 4 total for it.  Normally I would not link to videos of the company but I liked them so I used them.  They even suggested the safe deposit box.  It seems like they understand their product pretty well.

I suggest for everyone to look into hardware wallets after a few day's of trying it.
3590  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Columbia Basin Mining - Land offer for Bitcoin Mining on: December 12, 2015, 04:00:42 PM
...

Why could you not structure the land purchase so that CBM gets their 8 acres and the balance of the land go to another party that the Seller also knows?  Based on the above, it sounds like that the Seller of the land could find a Buyer who would continue to farm the land.

I agree with notlist3d (or perhaps I am extending his idea) that the mining and farmland should be separate entities.

I suspect there are many here who would like to take a look at your mining opportunity.  If you make it a "clean" business offer, that would likely interest more investors.

* Transparency matters. *

They answered half of the questions so I will ask it again below.  I suspect renter is either friend of old landowner or someone in the project.  I want to know who came up with terms.  With spending a ton on land sharecropping is way to go.  This flat rate long term is a sweetheart deal for someone.  They get all benefits of landownership without buying it.

I think we are in agreement there is a reason they want to buy all the land not just some.  Even paying a premium for a small part is MUCH cheaper then buying whole thing.  And you can mix different buisnesses but I feel they are going down wrong path.  I think there is a reason they want all the land.  Who ever the renter is get's one very sweet deal, which makes me think this provision was made by friend either old owner or this CBM added it for a friend.

It is not a surprise he is not leaving equipment it's hard to say but it could be as much as the land.  With it the deal is much more attractive.

There are a few red flags on it first is long term lease.  With owning the land when sharecropping you are normally responsible for land upkeep, maybe they pay 1/3 at most but at least 2/3 if not all is on landowner.   With long term lease there is no computation your chances are giving it to the previous owners buddy.  You need to at least do it as a bid and have more then 1 farmer bidding on what they will pay.  But since it's your land upkeep or improvement make sense landowner benefits from.

Also normally it is not a flat fee if just flat fee if your just getting flat fee your getting screwed with owning the land. Normally you get a percentage of the crops.   2/3 land owner and 1/3 sharecropper is very common.

I think you a little over your head on the farming and land ownership.  I HIGHLY suggest getting someone who knows industry to consult before going with deal.   I think it's a pretty sweet deal for sharecropper getting it at flat rate.    But as land owner getting just a flat rate is not normal at all.  You want a share of what is produced.

Did previous owner come up with these terms with sell? Sounds like something someone would do for a friend he want's to farm it that does not have cash for land.  To get a flat fee at a rate low enough to pay for all upkeep out of sharecroppers hand you know you are getting much lower then you could.  Look at it renter is getting all the benefits of landownership without cost with your longterm lease.  Don't sign current deal, trust me on getting a consultant.

Columbia Basin Mining (“CBM”) co-founder is from an well established third generation of farmers, so understanding how agronomics work is nothing new.  The following is his position as an active farmer and businessman of 28 years.

Sharecropping is not heard of in our area (Pacific Northwest).

We have many established farmers that will submit bids on rental rates.  CBM is promoting rental rate as $500/acre conservatively in our pro forma as an amount to count on.  Currently the industry is not on the top or even climbing in profitability margin.  This was a lean year and next year doesn’t show much signs of improving.  Farmers do not win consistently every year.

Sharecroping with a potato grower who has $4000/acre into his crop and then loses $1000/acre due to extreme weather conditions does not create a stable environment for our investors.

A long term lease (4 years) has two benefits, by:

•   Allowing the farmer to run their rotation and be invested in the health of the soil for the next year.
•   Allows CBM to receive its cash rent at the beginning of each year as it is not in the business to “farm” but produce lucrative returns for its investors.

There are pros and cons to every lease scenario.

We are focused on the bigger picture of Bitcoin Mining.

Sharecropping is actually a very good system for landowner.   It is far from unheard of, a flat pay you lose all benefits of land ownership.  Trust me your losing a lot of potential profit.   Your signing a deal where someone gets all benefits of owning land without buying.

I don't believe you are active on farming... or you would have farmed it yourself.  So somethings do not make sense.  You have to see that.  A sweet deal for renter.  And you say you have third generation farmers.... but they don't want to farm this land?  Makes no sense unless that is who is the renter if hes's part of your project.  If so it is structured heavily tword renter from a insider.

Did old owner come up with terms?  Did you come up with terms?  Also is farmer a friend of who did?  Is the renter family relation to someone in CBM?  It just is nothing like normal on the deal.  Someone is trying to give the sharecropper/renter a sweet deal for them.

*Edit your also forgetting about insurance on bad crop's or weather.  If you were truly in the industry and for some reason your crops are being killed by weather or other factors you can get insurance on it.  It is not cheap but if you think it's that bad of farming most would insure it.  And if the weather is that extreme always likely you are buying a crappy spot for farmland.

Quoting as poster is currently under limit to post images.

*Edit you might want to do a second one with different size.   You can use snipping tool in windows (on most recent ones) to take a screen capture, then edit it with paint to get rid of things you don't want shared.  That will keep it where not so stretched.
3592  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 12, 2015, 06:36:14 AM
I'm a little lost about these... is everything stored on the KeepKey? Like if you took that from one PC to another, doing fresh MultibitHD installs on each one, would it be the same as doing it all on one PC? And does this make it safe to also transact from PCs you might not otherwise trust?

The main thing is the private key does not get stored on PC.  With the private key you basically have control of the BTC.  That is the magic is keeping key on hardware wallet.

It is truly it is a luxury wallet.  It has a nicer screen, and case then others.  You can get cheaper ones but they wont come with this.  But everyone's needs are not the same so I realize pick of wallet is kinda a personal decision.

It is my first hardware wallet I have to say I'm starting to really like it.  I was not sure when getting it what I would think.  But it's kinda a nice change.  Still early but there are some very nice features with hardware wallet.

I love the look of it, Smiley. It's really modern and that's awesome.

But the KeepKey also does the signing on the device itself, right? So even if you're on a system that's compromised, it wouldn't hurt it since the system wouldn't be able to access the private key?

Correct even it signs the transaction on the device.  And it stores the key on it aswel.  So even if there is a keylogger or virus this should not be able to be compromised.  Even if they were watching your screen during entering of key they would not know what number you hit since it changes on keepkey screen.

I wondered what happened if you enter it wrong on PIN, curious if bruteforcing is possible.  And luckily it is not after a few wrong tries it adds a delay, and this delay keeps getting doubled each time.   So another thing that seems to add to me feeling safe.

This is awesome. I'm really looking into getting one now. My PC was apparently compromised months ago and I had generated addresses/encrypted immediately after/sent coins to them. Found out a couple weeks ago that somehow two of the wallets were compromised and I had lost ~8 BTC. Expensive mistake but it's made be MUCH more wary about security of coins.

That is the great thing I'm learning about hardware wallets.  It seems they take out the hassle of holding safely.  I have always been a strong paper wallet person.  And they are still great if done right, and that is the key thing if done right.

3595  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: December 12, 2015, 04:42:02 AM
Sure did. Faucets are the best IMO. Better than PTC.

No one say's faucets are the best.  Cents per hour is my saying for them.

How much did you earn with faucets and how long of time?  You leaving out a LOT of info.
3596  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All the ways to get BTC on: December 12, 2015, 04:41:16 AM
Very nice post! Thanks!

BTW, we could also list average % of return for each investment type...

I don't think faucets are any worth the time spent on them.

The average return will depend on your specifics. Nobody can even give that because it's different for each person.

One can say faucet will be very low.  They always are, were normally talking cents per hour.

So it is very very small.  Some might be 0 if your not using them so it's hard to say.
3597  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 12, 2015, 04:37:58 AM
Pretty good website / review.  I wish they go more into detail on this statement below and how they achieved the 4.1T.

When the case of mining machine stable operation at a temperature of 75 degrees, voltage 12.1V, the fan speed of about 3000 rpm, G pool and pond, the average count forces around 3.5T. Maximum count force nearly 4.1T, the smallest operator force of about 3.2T, long run without large fluctuations.

P.S Zoomhash is expressing me the missing LED Dongle.  Is this the same thing they use on the Avalon 4.1? If so I think I can borrow that piece from another miner that doesn't live too far away.

It looks exactly the same as 4.1 adpters.  I cannot guarentee it as I have not hear of anyone trying it.

But I put my extra's with my 4.1's as it appeared so close.  So I'm guessing yes but cant guarantee it.

I will swap my 4.1 with my 6 give me 1 minute.

works fine I swapped.  this is the pinky sized dongle.  so both it and the 4.1 cable interchange with the avalon 6

Thanks for testing it out!  Glad to hear it.  I thought there were exactly the same but had not tested that theory.

Nice that they use the same connectors. Makes it easy.
3598  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 12, 2015, 04:36:27 AM
Did anyone try to mod the U3 for quieter operation?
Are you serious?  It's one 80mm fan, my desktop has 10 of them.  White noise is relaxing, you should learn to enjoy it!

I've had an SP20 running in an an adjacent room for the past year and never noticed anything from my U3. Got rid of the SP20 and now the U3 is making its presence known, but it's barely noticeable.

By the way, my customized R1 has been running my U3 without human intervention for around 6 weeks now.

I have been running mine for weeks aswell.  Has been nice not to touch my 3 U3's.  Truly a lotto machine I don't mess with at this point.

Complete change from when I was running them on my windows machine.
3599  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntRouter with 7 Antminer U3 on: December 12, 2015, 04:35:05 AM
CrazyGuy's R1 if you buy from him has a custom firmware that automatically fixes zombie on U3's.  It is very good to say the least.

I have not fixed a zombie in weeks with my 3.  So seems very good and stable for me at least.

And I am banning any more new members from this point on during this adjustment period.

Thank your for doing this.  I think looking into it for all future ones might be a decent idea.  Just seems odd we get 3 when week before we had none, but it is a even higher prize so could be coincidence but I normally dont believe in coincidence.

Price is going down some looks like were around 421 now.. so not the 450 we had earlier.  But still nice.
