People often make well thought out posts in Meta because they're usually making posts on how to benefit or improve the forum so they probably tend to get more merit as opposed to threads in Bitcoin Discussion which are 99% spambait these days and there's very little constructive opinion you can offer in those type of spam topics (and even if you did there's probably nobody but spammers browsing those sorts of threads so gaining merit will be less likely). I haven't looked into or counted how my merits are distributed but I'm guessing most of them will be in Meta because it's the sub board I'm most active in and I tend to reward posts that are looking at the bigger picture of improving the forum.
3582  Other / Meta / Re: DT1 users abusing their power to increase their own trust on: March 21, 2018, 04:18:29 PM
The whole concept of farming feedback seems flawed to me, because green numbers shouldn't mean anything by themselves. Its the quality and contents of the feedback itself.

But people do put a lot of weight on it. Feedback = trustability to a lot of people (though it obviously shouldn't). I've seen people offering their services here and calling themselves a 'trusted user' just because they did a few deals with the right people. It's like a badge of honour to a lot of people and I suppose it gives them the edge over someone who has zero feedback so that's why it's worth something. Some campaigns have even started offering higher payments if you've got it which is ludicrous and just encourages more abuse.

Because this is an issue in the first place, I'd love to see an option to leave people feedback without it being included in feedback score calculation. I'd far prefer an Ebay type feedback system, where before you buy something from someone, you quickly check their negatives to see if they ship things that "don't arrive", or arrive broken, etc. The issue of retaliatory feedback could also be addressed by having a comment section where a person could respond to their own feedback.

You can leave them neutral. An ebay-like system is far from perfect as well and wouldn't really work on here for numerous reasons.
3583  Other / Meta / Re: DT1 users abusing their power to increase their own trust on: March 21, 2018, 03:05:20 PM
Theymos should probably consider tweaking the algorithm slightly. 'Micro-transactions' or deals of small amounts probably shouldn't count for much if anything at all and certainly shouldn't be giving people a +1 or 'green' feedack because it just leads to users seeking out doing certain deals as cheaply as possible purely for the feedback. As for escrow deals, maybe neutral feedback would be more appropriate.

OP, you might be on to something but this needs work.

Making philipma1957 look like an example of some sort of abuse is quite ridiculous I think.

I haven't looked into who he's added and for what, but people shouldn't really be added to DT just for doing one or two trades with them. People who have done this in the past have been removed from DT and rightly so. I think the feedbacks that person has left for others should carry just as much weight as the deals they have done with that person. If a person has only really left a few feedbacks then they're largely useless in the grand scheme of the network.

Plenty of people who deal in physical goods use either a PO box or a drop shipping address, both of which are used in the regular course of business by many and it is generally trivial to obtain either of these without disclosing you identity.

Some people in the collectibles section also often have coins shipped to a third party, sometimes with the intent of the third party forewarding the coin to them, other times it appears they are making a proxy and/or straw purchase. Often times it is unclear that both physical transfer ownership transfer occurs in sales. I have also occasionally seen coins won in an auction only to have the buyer pay for the coin, have the seller not ship the coin and immediately list the coin for sale as being shipped from the original seller.

PO boxes are usually very expensive (or at least they are here) and you need several forms of ID to prevent people using them for shenanigans. It wouldn't really be worth it just for the casual user, but if I had to buy something from here though I certainly wouldn't get it shipped straight to me.
3584  Other / Meta / Re: DT1 users abusing their power to increase their own trust on: March 21, 2018, 11:26:01 AM
How does one become DT1? I always assumed they were hand-picked by theymos, which would put him at 100% by definition (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just stating the obvious here).

Theymos is in charge of adding people to DT1.

I've noticed before that many of the dark green trusted people are very active trading physical items, and earned most of their trust in those sections. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is something that can quite easily be farmed: buy some items from the right people now, and a year later you're at +80 or more!

People obviously do just do trades with the right people to get trusted feedback. The easiest to abuse though are people selling digital goods for fairly cheap and that is what was happening with TheButterZone's emails he was selling. The vast majority - if not all - the people who purchased them had likely just worked out they could buy a cheap 'green feedback' from him. Buying physical goods is much more expensive and you have to give out personal information that exposes you which is something I wouldn't want to do here for obvious reasons.
3585  Other / Meta / Re: My hero account (Matveevka) is hacked!!! on: March 21, 2018, 11:18:51 AM

What else do you want? After you advise me to return my matveevka account and trust my negatife and now you are interpreting something else by suspecting me again. Really, I hope you can re-neutralize my account because you made me return someone else's account. thanks.

I require proof from the original owner. I have no reason to trust you just saying "I've given it back now". And why should the negative be removed? Not only we're you kicking up a fuss in giving the account back but you were cheating be sending merit to it as well.
3586  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: March 21, 2018, 11:17:17 AM
Nope. Don't know anything about it. The only sport I really follow (and gamble on) is football. I occasionally watch the big MMA and boxing fights as well.
3587  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: March 20, 2018, 05:43:19 PM
P.S. Guys, I'm thinking of doing a World Cup mini pool with a knock-out/survivor format... would any of you be interested? A quick one-month competition with only the last one(s) standing winning the pot.

I would be interested to join that competition but would prefer different format. Knock-out/survivor format is hard for the ones going out immediately. I would prefer something which generates interest for all participants all the way till the final game. Hilariousandco also mentioned organizing such pool.

I'll be doing one the same as this providing there's a website like the BBC one. It would be far too much work to do it manually otherwise and with games everyday it would be hectic. I know there was one for the last Euros so people should keep their eye out. People are free to start their own tournaments though if they wish.
3588  Other / Meta / Re: Why should open Local Board for Vietnamese? on: March 20, 2018, 04:50:40 PM
i also agree that we should open a new local board for Vietnamese.

also assign a trusted local admin that can manage the local board.

The problem is that there currently isn't anyone trusted enough to moderate it. All local boards that don't have adequate moderation (Chinese etc) are ripe for abuse and the Vietnamese board was already probably the worst abused board I've ever seen and add to the fact that not a single Vietnamese user reported any of the abuse makes it even worse.
3589  Other / Meta / Re: Created a BitcoinTalk sMerit Comic for you all. on: March 20, 2018, 01:44:44 PM
Lol. Yeah, I was gonna say change the bubbles to "merit ruined my life", "how you guys think about MERIT", "Does merit really helping the forum", and every possible permutation of asking "why was my account banned".
3590  Other / Meta / Re: My hero account (Matveevka) is hacked!!! on: March 20, 2018, 12:17:09 PM
What proof did you send them? Where is the signed message?

Confirmation was sent 5 months ago to moderators (Cyrus and theymos) of this forum. In the end, a complete disregard for my posts of them!!!

Post it here or PM me it along with any other evidence and I'll PM them about it.

Please check PM.

Because of the limitation on the number of messages in the PM write here.

This address is the address from the exchange account. On Monday-Tuesday I will send a signed message.

If it's an exchange address then how did you manage to sign a message from it before? The ones you just sent me don't check out either. If you can't provide a proper signed message in the correct format then there's nothing I can do.

Tomorrow will be sent in the format as they did in October. Or need a special format?

Did you manage to get a signed message or can you confirm this:

Congratulations, your account has been my return. although I have loss due to buy your account but I still proud because I have the right thing. keep this account so not compromised again. Please check PM.

Thanks.

Seems a bit fishy.
3591  Other / Meta / Re: My hero account (Matveevka) is hacked!!! on: March 19, 2018, 06:06:13 PM

You are wrong, you have made me guilty on the allegation of buying a stolen account. I've explained before, I bought without knowing this account is stolen. If you liken the police who confiscated the goods I bought then I will not negotiate with the police. But the same as the original owner. One more thing, if you do not want to help me, please do not blame me. because it is very unhelpful.

I'm not wrong. You're guilty of buying a stolen account. That's still a crime whether you knew it was stolen or not. Sure, it's not as bad as straight up stealing it yourself but you're still handling stolen goods which is a crime and usually carries punishment. You're not trying to help the owner either as you're trying to extort him. You have something that doesn't belong to you so you should give it back and take the losses. That's the right thing to do. This account is useless as long as you have it so it's worthless to you. Stop trying to make him pay for something where you're at fault.
3592  Other / Meta / Re: My account FULL member account is banned after hacking on: March 19, 2018, 06:01:12 PM
If there's no address there at all in the original post then it's useless. It's more likely that you're involved in some shenanigans because why would you post that address two days before you claimed it was hacked and then you lock it? The account looks to have been hacked a while back looking at the gap in the posts and change in language. If you can't offer any proof that the account belongs to you then you may as well just forget it because you're just wasting everybody's time.
3593  Other / Meta / Re: My account FULL member account is banned after hacking on: March 19, 2018, 05:47:42 PM

It checks out. I'll PM the admins.

Hi

yes, If you check you find out that hacker changes my email for 2 times, after first changing I announced and Hided my BTC address in one of my posts because I afraid about hacking.  I am very afraid about trust and try to don't trade in this site. please help me, I need my account I promises you to be careful more. please help me.

This doesn't make any sense. You removed your bitcoin address because you were worried about a hacker yet replaced it with another? Sounds like bullshit to me. Admin's can see edited or deleted posts anyway. All you've done is complicate things and are less likely to get it back now. If you edited that address to remove another then you're pretty much screwed unless you can sign a message from the original. Either way contact an admin but if you've tried to be deceptive I wouldn't bother them because you won't get your account back.

yes, there are some other important proof that it is mine. one of them is my email address, and also BTC address. only people try to recover their own email that try to work on their accounts. I want to recover my account because i worked on it for many times. as admins can see, hacker posts in other languages. this is show that what is happened.

The email address is largley usless and is probably not something the admins will accept as proof right now.

i did not replace my my BTC address, admins can check this issue. my account has not any corresponding BTC address. so, when i announced about hacking, for security reason i take it on forum. i do not replaced bro. please read complete the written texts before answering a question.

So you're saying the original post contained the same bitcoin address? If so then there's a chance you might get it back but if you're lying you're just wasting everybody's time.
3594  Other / Meta / Re: My hero account (Matveevka) is hacked!!! on: March 19, 2018, 05:43:21 PM
for what you do like this, I will return your account completely because I am not a hacker. I am the person who has been cheated by purchasing your account. I just want you to exchange it with another account. At least Full member account up. I need an account to work with. Please understand,
That's all I want. If you want it back, Please PM me as soon as possible.

You should just return it to him. This account and your other one is useless with the negative trust right now. If anyone is at fault it's you for buying a dodgy account and the only thing you can do to make this right is return it to the rightful owner and take your losses.

Yes I have been wrong, but the original owner and I are both victims of the hacker. Is not what I want this is a justice for me. I am losing this incident, and if I return it for free to the original owner then he is a very lucky person. Because my account is already redtrust, I want another account as his successor. if the original owner would give it to me, then it is the only account for me.

You're essentially handling stolen goods and you're at fault not the op. If the police confiscate something you have purchased that was stolen they'd laugh at you if you demanded a replacement. This account is useless to you now so do the right thing and give it back to the owner and accept that you got ripped off in a bad deal but the op doesn't deserve to suffer because of this.

Just follow the information here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

Please check it to make sure it verifies first. You can use this tool if you don't know how to do so: https://blockexplorer.com/messages/verify
3598  Other / Meta / Re: Help unlock my account (to: theymos, Cyrus) on: March 19, 2018, 03:23:11 PM
Did you send them a signed message? Maybe post it here so somebody else can verify it. If it doesn't check out then it likely won't get restored.

my account is not hacked, and I remember the password - Block received after changing the password. The input is blocked. In my personal letter I give proof of account ownership

Do you just need it unlocking?
3599  Other / Meta / Re: A new rule is needed for bounty managers. Please share your opinions. on: March 19, 2018, 11:23:43 AM
It's necessary if they need some sort of contact information from you to, you know, get in contact with you and update you on their ICO etc. There will be no rule implemented that they can't ask for this but you are free to either not give them it, not join their campaign, or give them a throwaway account. There are numerous ways you can protect yourself here.
3600  Other / Meta / Re: Lauda still on DT2, engaged in tax fraud RE mod income, extorted member RE same on: March 19, 2018, 11:20:07 AM
Am I the only one who thinks it is ironic that lauda was extorting someone over claimed “tax fraud”, while lauda was claiming to do this in the name of a sting operation, when lauda refused to give theymos sufficient information to generate a 1099 for his moderator income and was going around bragging about not paying taxes on this income (aka committing tax fraud himself)?

Where did you get this info from or are you just making stuff up? And where is your evidence that he refused to give anything? Besides, if you don't give theymos those details he pay the US taxes on your behalf so the only way he'd be able to commit tax fraud 100% would be to give theymos the details and then not pay the appropriate taxes to his own IRS. The whole point of filling in those forms is to show you're not earning US-based income.
My source is not important. I am not wrong though, you can ask the relevant parties if you don't believe me.

I would note that Lauda was also bragging about not paying taxes on his moderator income, and he was not specifying about US taxes.

I've asked the relevant parties. And since when is proof not important? Of course it is. You could either just be straight up lying or your "source" could be if there's even one at all. As far as anyone can tell you just keep making baseless accusations up without providing any sort of evidence whatsoever.
