SWIFT: Blockchain Won't Remove All Third Parties in Securities Trade

It may come as little surprise to find that blockchain technology could require a major re-imagining of the securities market.

365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not use USB sticks for long term storage! Its not safe! on: May 09, 2016, 05:44:23 PM

Just a reminder

Its not safe to use USB sticks or SSDs for long term storage they lose data over time if they are not powered!

You can't just stick your private keys on a few USB sticks or SSD and box them up for 4 - 8 years you will lose all your coins.

For long term storage have at least 3 backups paper wallets or HDDs. You can even use something like DropBox But be sure to encrypt your wallet and change the name.

You can even hide your wallet inside a image file.
This is one of the reasons I prefer optical media (CD, DVD, Blu-ray). They are cheap and durable.

366  Economy / Speculation / Re: What you do if bitcoin reach 5000 $? on: May 09, 2016, 05:42:21 PM
wait until $50.000

Why not wait until $100.000? we will get there anyway. The higher we get, the higher the ceiling of possibilities. People will start considering higher and higher prices the higher we go in an endless loop until Bitcoin sucks all the fiat out of stupid stucks, assets, and commodities all over the world. We'll reach the trillion dollar marketcap long term goal, I have no doubts on my mind about this.

I like your style, but if trillion dollar marketcap happens I guess you wont be able to sell to dollars anymore as fiat vanishes from people usage. But thats the point of Bitcoin, financial revolution to get rid of shaddy and not transparent fiat system finally.

I bought an expensive USB key a while ago to back up my wallet.dat
I can't see that losing data, maybe with a shitty $5 one though it could happen.

to be 99,99% sure : make another backup  Smiley

"100 BTC is not a huge holding in the grand scheme of thinhgs"

Apparantly, $45,800 is not a huge holding. That's what someone earns in a year.
Depends on which country u r from. For some countries, u may have a decent lifestyle for 30 years with $45,800. Take note that bitcoin is a global currency.

correct. the question is, if 100 BTC is alot for an exchange and not if it is alot money for one person. Kraken is trading 10.000 BTC per day! and that is not the biggest exchange.

So Kraken is SERIOUSLY exchanging 10,000 BTC per day? How much of a fee do they take? 5%?

Most likely he is still in the jail. I think he better stays there as many are still after an explanation from him, the moment he is out of the prison.
He's out.  Got out a long time ago.

Don't listen to him, he's talking out of his ass.  But someone must know if he's still locked up.  Did no one from this wonderful worldwide community send him commissary money?

Thx  Wink

i guess we would know already if Mark would be free.

Contact somewhere like Grayscale and see if they can find a buyer for you. I dunno if they still broker sales but they advertised it for amounts of 25 coins and above when they were secondmarket. OTC sales are always gonna way more painless if they're done through the right people.

you dont need Grayscale or any other OTC market for several hundred coins. that is not a big amount for an exchange.

i share your view. when we hit 5000 USD - why shouldnt it hit 10.000 ? 20.000 ? so selling all my coins at 5k would be pretty stupid.

maybe a trillion dollar marketcap is 20 years away but possible.

5000 USD is not a big deal.
378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not use USB sticks for long term storage! Its not safe! on: May 09, 2016, 02:52:08 PM
USB sticks, Flash ROM, does not wear out because of "lack of power" - it is solid state circuitry - they wear out due to the maximum number of read/write cycles.

If you keep one in safe dry place and don't use it, it should retain its data for 60 to 80 years until the physical circuitry degrades.

WRONG!

Google "How long can a SSD store data without power?"

Did that. first search result:

Debunked: Your SSD won't lose data if left unplugged after all

I'm looking forward to Bitcoin rise after the halving.
I'm planning to buy 4-5 BTC,is now a good time?
What do you all think?

I don't think it's a good idea to buy bitcoins afer the halving, because people will sell their bitcoin when halving is coming and when all people sell their bitcoin, the price will be back to normal again.,

after the halving is like before the next halving  Wink
