361  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS: Crucial M4 SSD 256GB or Trade on: April 27, 2013, 01:17:07 PM
Hey guys, trying to sell a brand new crucial m4 ssd. I paid about 230$ for it 6 months ago. I'll take 175 trade value or 150$ btc or ltc.

For trades the only thing I'm looking for is video cards. You know the drill

58xx series cards. Anything else will require special consideration.
362  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 running 6 cards or 4 cards? on: April 26, 2013, 03:27:07 PM
I've got one and can only get 4 cards to work.  I get ~1.8 MH/s mining litecoin, your mileage may vary.
All cards are 6950s (different brands), 3 are flashed, all are overclocked in cgminer which also underclocks if they get too hot. Stock voltage.

I tried a 5th card, it booted but I couldn't get it to mine.

wow thanks for the info man! Are you running risers or right into the board? Know anything about the risers people mention?
363  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 26, 2013, 03:20:59 PM
Wow! So much negativity here.... BFL should have their backorders fulfilled by August 2013. Reputable people have received and are mining with their Jalapenos: https://twitter.com/BFL_News Why be so negative when in reality you don't know anything? You must be one of the jealous ones that missed the price of the unit before it nearly doubled...

Why all the negativity?

Because those who are mining with older tech are hoping and praying that BFL is a scam so they can keep mining at the current difficulty.  Cause otherwise their mining days are numbered unless they buy some ASICs also.  Even if BFL were a scam (and it's not) those days will soon be over anyway.  The total hashrate (and therefore the difficulty) will be exponentially higher within 6 months.  No doubt about it.  If it's in the 70TH's today it will be no less than 700 or 1000TH's in 6-9 months.

The REAL problem is that BFL is NOT a scam.  That's a bigger problem.  In 9-12 months, paying $2500 for 50GH will be a losing proposition unless the value of BTC hits $500 US.  It's going to be hard to break even when 50GHs is a tiny % of the processing power.  The difficulty is about to skyrocket.  The value of BTC has to rise with the difficulty or mining won't make sense.  <- remember this

Most of the people who paid and then got pissed off for not receiving anything have already demanded a refund.  Might still be pissed and feel screwed, but those aren't the one's here complaining.

And to all those who keep questioning if BFL is just mining with the gear.. gawd!  I'm a noob and I know that's not happening.  It would be easy to tell.  Do some investigating on blockchain.info or something.

And finally, who got an email saying that they're not shipping until october?  Really?  Cause I didn't get mine yet.  Did they only send it to some people who ordered?

Couldn't have said it better. They wont mine with their own hardware when they make more money off selling the hardware to us. The faster they ship product the more they make. That is their goal. To assume anything else is just silly.
364  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A newbie board.. really? Butterfly labs 50Gh/s on: April 25, 2013, 09:03:09 PM
You honestly think BFL will deliver? Hahaha.

No, see, he's great at data mining, so that's why he sunk thousands of dollars into a venture he obviously didn't investigate and.... I have no idea, where I'm going with this, it is just too comical.

And your good at talking..(from what iv gathered on all of your other posts on this forum) and not actually backing up what you say.

I'v personally spoken to the team at BFL.

There own blog stated yesterday that they shipped units. Regardless i'm not concerned with your opinion.

Go read something.
365  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 running 6 cards or 4 cards? on: April 25, 2013, 08:57:48 PM
Hey guys a I have a nice Gigabyte gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 with an AMD Fx-8350 and 16Gb of dual channel XMP memory. I am trying to get a hold of a few nice radeon cards, currently im picking up a HD6870.

Question one, iv seen what theoretical hash rates are but what are some real numbers you guys have mined with?

Second has anyone ran 4 cards in this board? How about 6? Obviously the more cards i can stick in one machine the less machine i will need to run.

Any input appreciated guys!

p.s. I ordered a 50gh/s from butterfly labs a short while ago. Assuming I ever get it... I will ultimately move to litecoin or namecoin with this rig once asic destroys bitcoin any forseeable issues with that? I know next to nothing about litecoin or namecoin except one thing i read that asic cannot process them which makes them a last hope for gpu i guess.
366  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Can get LTC mining working on 6870, but not BTC/TRC/etc. on: April 25, 2013, 08:44:37 PM
I snagged a used 6870 fairly cheap about a week ago and have had it mining Litecoin, but thought I'd give Terracoin a spin as it's paying more.  However, I keep getting nothing but hardware errors.  I've downgraded the driver from 13.1 to 12.10, I've switched from Terracoin mining on P2Pool to Bitcoin mining on Eclipse, I've wiped out the settings and gone back to defaults.  Right now, my config looks like this, and it's still producing nothing but hardware errors.  The only change is to reduce gpu-threads to 1:

Code:

Temperature isn't skyrocketing out of control...in fact, it's lower than the ~80°C I was getting with Litecoin mining. What am I missing here?

(Underlying system is 64-bit Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS...not my usual Linux flavor, but this box has the biggest power supply I have.  cgminer was built from source pulled from GitHub.)

Hey i was actually about to pick up one of these cards. What type of hash rates were you getting with it while it was working properly?
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal president interested in bitcoin on: April 25, 2013, 12:31:06 AM
Not sure if this is bad or good news...

how could it possibly be bad news?

If they buy up a lot of volume @ mtgox, price drops. (Refer to two weeks back for a similar scenario). The budget that PayPal works with is in the ballpark of what can be used to manipulate the market at this point of time. Also, I doubt they give two shits about the whole BTC world. It's better for them to cause the price drop because they can buy everyone out.

Nebulus what would suggest that what happened two weeks ago would cause a market value decrease? Simple supply and demand would suggest if the supply of bitCoin drops, especially on a market exchange, the value would go up dramatically. Then then the market would see massive amounts off sell of because of the high driven value, followed by a peak low because such a high volume sold coin and thus increased supply again.

If the logic behind that is incorrect please correct it. I'm here to learn after all.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Butterfly labs youtube video on: April 25, 2013, 12:18:19 AM
Has anyone else seen this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uez9AVfDQIg

A lot of people are doubting the authenticity of BFL and I being one of the batch 3 pre-orders for a 50GH/s sure hope not.

Obviously the video shows their 5Gh/s product working assuming its a legit video.

Is there any speculation that this video is fake in some way? I can see some doubt as to there not being any of the 25Gh/s, 50Gh/s, certainly not a 1,500Gh/s model being showcased as working.
369  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 24, 2013, 10:27:49 PM
its' all about your perception, imagine that you bought not an actual device but made generous donation for arthouse video production. Main plot is about some geeks who test some blackbox devices. It's very bording and fake, but hey, it's art. Grin

Best post about BFL in this forum. Shipping and sending out demos to propaganda outlets are somewhat different.

It's a matter of perception for me but since my experience with BTC has never been trouble free (like it ought to have been really),it will continue to give me a poor impression as things like BFL not replying to my queries for an ridiculously long time only to find that an order placed will take months to arrive, even with the express delivery. Are these BFL guys actively trying to put people off participating with BTC altogether with their actions?Because that's the impression I'm getting so far.

An ASIC in my hands will be exciting for me but since I'll never get it within 3 weeks from ordering (like I did with the Mugen Power battery for my old N900 phone) I may as well not bother at all.Have these guys actually expanded on production so that deadlines will be a matter of 2 weeks or something similar?

It would be my understanding that if they were using their own product in a competitive market.. That it would be a grave conflict of interest and thus illegal? You cant compete with your own customers by any business plans standards.
370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A newbie board.. really? Butterfly labs 50Gh/s on: April 24, 2013, 08:56:40 PM
I was reading something about 50BTC having close to 50% or more of mining power? I'm going to make a special note NOT to choose them.

BTCGuild is much closer, check out http://blockchain.info/pools

Ahh there you go. I had the name wrong. Correct me if i'm wrong but we wouldn't want to join a mining pool with too low a hash-rate correct? Then coin discovery becomes less likely? Or more of mere luck over time?
371  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 24, 2013, 08:52:05 PM
This just in BFL is officially shipping units to customers.

Not to contradict your bold and bare statement there.. but where did you hear this?

I spoke with a "Dave" from BFL yesterday when i ordered mine and he was confirming shipment for two weeks or so.
372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mtgox Signup Error 503 How to solve it? on: April 24, 2013, 08:46:42 PM

Go to a better exchange instead. For example bitstamp.net or bitcoin.de - they are cheaper, faster, and better than MtGox.
Thanks maybe y have else ideas?

During the spike in volume of trades when the value jumped to 260 and likewise when it dropped to 60, people were buying/selling like crazy and it overwhelmed the servers. There was also a rumor that the servers were hacked (rumors likely). Either way they suspended new user registration to update hardware/security in the meantime. Now i also got this error last night when trying to register... but then this morning i got an email from Mtgox confirming my registration lol? I can log in and am going through verification process. In other words.. check your email Tongue
373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A newbie board.. really? Butterfly labs 50Gh/s on: April 24, 2013, 08:30:07 PM
My conclusion is that making predictions about mining is very hard. I hope, like many others that i'll be able to mine enough BTC with my 50Gh/s before the difficulty skyrockets. But i think that in the long run the investment in a miner is smart. Even if all the coins are mined, there are still the fees.

Also even if the difficulty rises, so does the price. So i'm hoping for a "steady" pay-out.

My greatest choice to make is which mining pool to join Smiley

I hear you. I was reading something about 50BTC having close to 50% or more of mining power? I'm going to make a special note NOT to choose them.
374  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: did i make a mistake with BFL's on: April 24, 2013, 08:24:48 PM
Would it be absolutely pointless to order an ASIC from BFL now?

I mean, by the time I recieve my ASIC will it even be worthwhile?

I'm new to the mining-scene, however, I've been in the 'bitcoin' scene for over a year now.. Just never had a chance to really invest until now.

I'v been in the bitCoin scene for a month haha. I placed a BFL order yesterday for 2,500$. It's a risk. It has its potential reward and its obvious risk. I think its worth the risk personally. Tongue No one can tell you what will happen because they simply don't know. Anyone who does is full of it. It's been an intensely unpredictable market so far and I don't see that changing.

Based on my assumptions (which hold no value or weight), worst case scenario i WILL see payback in 6 months time. Best case scenario? I make a shit ton of bitCoin before the market is entirely flooded with asic. People think its crazy now... wait until BFL ships.. and is a proven technology caught up with the backlogs.

I bought 3 60 GH units,

Interesting.

Do me a favor. Click here. -> https://products.butterflylabs.com/

If it's worth anything, I'm sorry for your loss.

Do you follow their hardware greyhawk?

Do me a favor and go here...

https://products.butterflylabs.com/hdmijaijwo3625sqpkc0953nxoq540md.html

All the hardware has been changed to the 'new' specs of 5/25/50/1500. He will still receive a 50Gh/s as the initial numbers were projections not actual results as well as the power consumption issue they are currently dealing with.

Didn't he by 60GH/s? Thats 10 GH/s less then advertised..... Or 10 GH/s more depending on witch standpoint ;P ....

Yes but that doesn't change the fact that it exists lol? Right on the website it says they are subject to performance deviation of 10%. Off the 60GH/s model they are allowed to be as low as 54GH/s. Hes losing out on 4GH or 6.6 coins in a month (at current difficulty). More likely less than one coin in a month once the difficulty spikes by the time he gets his hardware. But i see your point.
376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A newbie board.. really? Butterfly labs 50Gh/s on: April 24, 2013, 08:01:57 PM
Thank YOU tysat!!!!

It may make more sense to buy coins and sit on them.  If Paypal does start taking Bitcoin, it's going to cause the market to jump up significantly to say the least.  People who are hoarding coins for that kind of an announcement are smarter than spending that money on ASIC hardware that is far away from shipping.

This was my next thought! As long as people are sitting on some bitCoin, sayyy 100+, it may make sense to cash in hardware for more coin and start playing the exchange market. Banks make millions of currency exchange in todays markets. I knew a vice president of USbank who specialized in foreign exchange investment banking. I don't know 2 things about it but what i do know is with the USD value of bitCoin jumping around the way it does... it is a hell of a lot more profitable to play the market than mine coins at a certain point. What point i cant say i know. But if you look at todays little blip.

When i woke up, checked the market (nice little ticker on my phone Wink), and it was 140~. Up from the number i saw last night around 125-130.

Later today it spiked up to slightly over 160! Then trickled back down to around 150 where it is now.

My point is if you played that simple jump in value even having bought 100 coins yesterday at 125, and sold today at the 160 mark.. that's 3,500$ in profit in one day... now take your 16K$ and buy more bitCoin when it hit a low of 138 today and now you have 116 bitCoin Smiley  A 16% increase in possible levy value.. i mean its a stock brokers DREAM to see rapid and large fluctuations like this.

Lol iv been watching it all day. Went up to 140 early this morning and climbed slowly to almost 160. It trickled back down to 145 and is now right back up to 155  Wink
379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A newbie board.. really? Butterfly labs 50Gh/s on: April 24, 2013, 05:45:50 PM
Well thank you sir. Like I mentioned as soon as I discovered bitcoin i'v been frantically crunching data and putting together risk-vs-reward plans. I stare at the market all day, and i plan to continue to do this over time as i await my 50Gh/s model to arrive. I agree with your statement. I also dont think that will happen until all bitcoins have been mined. As long as there are bitcoins to be mined, and the value continues to increase, people will constantly be looking for ways to maximize bitcoin mining potential. The prices of asic will indefinitely drop dramatically once the demand for them does due to the increased difficulty and the return. One thing is for certain, the future is uncertain.. any attempts at assuming what will happen (based on posts on this forum a year ago) have been terribly wrong thus far. ASIC is currently on the market and the difficulty is not 100-300M like people said it would be Q1 this year.
380  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 24, 2013, 04:16:03 PM
Butterfly labs doesn't care.. they produced FPGA products to consumers that worked. They were and continue to be a legit business. Why throw that away for some odd million $? They wouldn't. They can and will make more money producing a product. BTW the pay methods are not just wire transfer and bitCoin. I paid through paypal with an E-check. Easy as hell to trace and dispute if sh*t DOES hit the fan. For now.. the risk is worth the reward. You have nothing to lose. If by the time you get the hardware ASIC has already dominated the network and the difficulty is at a point where you are yielding slow minimal profits.. then guess what, the demand for ASIC hardware will be at an all time high?! You can still sell your hardware. No one will be simply "OUT" money as several people here have suggested. Hell and i'm one who actually believe's in conspiracies commonly.

If anyone follows the Arms manufacturers in the last 6 months you already understand perfectly what is happening with this company. They are overwhelmed with orders from people in a literal panic to get hands on hardware. It is no surprise and relatively typical for a growing company. Sit back and enjoy the ride people Wink
