SBC has been removed from Cryptsy trading again.
I wish they would have the courtesy to send me an email when they remove my ability to trade something I own.
I just noticed it too. They should at least post a public acknowledgement of what they are doing. Afterall it is our money that just disappears. And there is no reason that they have to disable the ability to transfer SBC in or out, except that their Funds page combines the links to all the functions.

You have all been extremely patient and generous with those of us (newbies) trying to learn about Nxt and cryptos in general, so please be patient with another newbie question below. And I will add that the quality and volume of communication on this site is extraordinarily good. Doing development in the open like this is like inviting people into the kitchen of your restaurant. Average customers may not want to see that kitchen, but legitimate investors absolutely must see the good, the bad, and the ugly of the whole operation. This forum captures the historical development of problems encountered and solved, and will be strong testament to the resilience of this project and the people involved.
Here's the question: What is your best guess about the specific sources of the DDOS attacks? Organizing them takes time, resources, and cooperation, so how is such an attack justified by those making the effort? What is the ultimate gain for them? (Sorry if this question has already been answered. I read the posts here as much as I can, but haven't hit all 480+ pages.)

Coin based on Java... I can't believe my eyes, coin developed with most insecure and inefficient bloated language full with frameworks for lazy/incapable devs. This thing does not sound right and will have serious problems.
It's not really an issue, as there's a native client being written.I guess the authors chose Java for the NRS (Next Reference Source) because they wanted portability, to reach as many users a possible. Will this native client be part of the January release?

Oh Shite, we broke Cryptsy Broke CoinedUp, too. Dogecoin: the Honey Badger of cryptocurrencies. Doge don't care.

Rookie question: I am not a miner, and I am curious how miners determine the minimum price for a coin they mine. I realize that lots of different solo setups and pools make for great variability, but I'm just trying to get a sense for how the coin price correlates (or doesn't) with mining expenses.
I'm sure this question has been addressed many times on other forums, so if you don't want to waste your breath, point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Nobody mentioning SBC being listed on coinedup.com now, yet?
Check back one page. I think Zavtra was the one who made this happen, yes?

Is anyone having any issues with deposits of Quark to Vircurex? My first two confirmations happened quickly, as expected, but the Accounts page in Vircurex has been showing 2 confirmations for the last 10 minutes. I assume this is on Vircurex side.
I have the same experience there. Sometimes it's immediate, other times it takes a while. But nothing like Cryptsy was. Thanks for confirming. I agree - this is nothing compared to the Craptsy hassles.

In the middle of placing an order, Bter decides to upgrade their servers. I think this is a nightly maintenance issue, because I've encountered their message before. We are upgrading our web servers. Please come back and try again later.
服务器升级维护中... that's gotta make you wanna bang your head against the wall don't it... Kinda makes me feel special that they would go to all that trouble for me.

Where can I find a comprehensive list of alt coins I heart that there is about 160 different coins.
Thx J.
This list is fairly comprehensive and updates quite frequently. https://cryptocointalk.com/Scroll down to the "Cryptocoins / Cryptocurrencies" block.

Where do you store your bitcoins and altcoins - in client wallets on a hard drive, or on a removeable drive, paper wallets, or at exchanges? I'm not sure where I should store mine. Keeping them in an account at an exchange is obviously convenient, but perhaps it's not safe. What do y'all do?
I have stored it at different places. saving inside an encrypted container (truecrypt for example) at a cloud service also seems like a safe solution to me while still being able to access it from different places. thank you truecrypt suggestion I was looking for cloud solution this one is perfect You don't have to include it in a truecrypt container. Just encrypt your wallet with the option that each wallet gives you. Encrypt in it again adds nothing. Thank you for the truecrypt suggestion, phil__65. Can someone please provide a link? I don't want to trust whatever I happen to find via google.

I'm amazed at the stupidity of all the panic sellers on cryptsy for quark. Buyers are all over bidding fighting for the top of the buy order and people are making huge sell orders way below market price..... Here is my understanding of what these big sell orders well below market price are. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Some (perhaps many?) of these are "stop loss orders." Someone with a big position will place an order below market price and near where they bought so that in case the price plummets quickly, they won't lose everything. So the trader isn't necessarily assuming that the price will drop. He or she is just placing an insurance order to limit losses if this volatile market turns south.

You might want to try Bter ( https://bter.com) exchange instead of Craptsy. Bter is much quicker, and I haven't had to open a ticket for anything. I don't do a lot of trading there, but I have no complaints about how well it's working.
