361  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis on: October 20, 2011, 02:55:42 AM
I just mean that S is talking about possible bull runs again.  Not "strong buy"s though.  Sorry, was being a bit unfair.
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Animation: Bitcoins moving over the blockchain on: October 20, 2011, 02:52:53 AM
Having trouble following this.  Could you explain exactly what the blue and green lines represent, please?
The green line is...
Thanks, Meni.  I get it now.
363  Economy / Speculation / Re: $/BTC Time Series (Probability) Analysis on: October 20, 2011, 02:49:34 AM
Thanks, Chodpaba.   Modeling the retracement regions in a Bayesian framework would be interesting.
364  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis on: October 20, 2011, 02:46:42 AM
Hahahaha.  The clock has stopped again.
365  Economy / Speculation / Re: At what price will you buy some speculative bitcoins on: October 19, 2011, 09:07:29 PM
I don't have a price in mind.  Stability and a strong story for how it's going to be useful are the main things I'm looking for.
366  Economy / Speculation / Re: $/BTC Time Series (Probability) Analysis on: October 19, 2011, 09:02:32 PM
Thanks for the graph and the explanations.  "Retracement" is a new concept for me, and I think it will take a little time for me to wrap my head around it.
367  Economy / Speculation / Re: $/BTC Time Series (Probability) Analysis on: October 19, 2011, 01:38:07 AM
Expanding the independent axis to show where the real resistance starts would be interesting.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Media : Bitcoin is Done on: October 18, 2011, 11:14:13 PM
There are myriad groups building various projects, some private and some public. The best ones are generally private, as the profit motive is involved.
I'm mildly skeptical, mildly hopeful.  Wish all those clever folks the best from me.
369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Media : Bitcoin is Done on: October 18, 2011, 06:06:39 PM
Actually, it is. Those of us involved in the projects are aware of this.
Where can I find out about this?  Haven't seen anything really earth-shattering in the bitcoin development mailing list...
370  Economy / Lending / Re: USD loan in BTC $500-$3000 6% annual rate on: October 18, 2011, 10:58:38 AM
id be happy to do it regularly when a bit mroe flush but the issue again is what kinda security do people have =/ can we gte your addres and security on your mining quipment or something? xD
Yeah, there is no way I would do this without a fairly invasive financial audit and collateral which I could confidently sell for a substantial fraction of the loan amount.  I don't have BoA's collection capabilities and we are headed into hard times which will make default very tempting for a lot of people.  (Not saying I have any specific reason to suspect the OP is a substantial default risk, just that I am inexperienced and see this as a dangerous time to be a creditor.)
371  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will one day rise again like the phoenix on: October 18, 2011, 10:46:17 AM
Sorry, Matthew, I care about the price because I don't want to waste my money.  Having money is important to me.  I know I'm eccentric in this regard. Smiley

A legend on the animation page itself might go a long way towards clarifying this.
373  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I'm trading BTC and Forex on: October 18, 2011, 10:41:30 AM
These are the exact circumstances in which I would start to get worried about having money in bitcoinica.  Essentially, you have entered into a naked short with them, which only works if they remain solvent.  Glad your predictions are panning out, though!  For several weeks, I was planning to buy a fairly substantial amount of bitcoin off someone in a face-to-face transaction some time while traveling last week.  Fortunately, the crash happened before I got around to it...
374  Economy / Speculation / Re: Exchanges shutting down on: October 18, 2011, 10:30:57 AM

Your or Bin Laden. Smiley
375  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will one day rise again like the phoenix on: October 18, 2011, 10:17:06 AM
I have not made any financial commitments to it, yet, but I believe the bottom will be well below $1/BTC.  The huge crash we've seen over the past couple of days, though, I doubt that's going to be typical of the ride down.  There will be more bouncing along and dropping, just as there has been for the past few weeks.
376  Economy / Speculation / Re: Old Highs, New lows, what to make of all this action. on: October 18, 2011, 09:59:46 AM
Today bitcoin took a big blow 2 major sell offs happened, driving the price from 3.75 to 2.25.

why did this happen?
it would seem 2 big players cashed out
Someone highly motivated to advance widespread bitcoin adoption flounced off the social scene recently.  Of course, that could be a coincidence.  But the extremely inefficient unloading of tens of thousands of bitcoins does look like a comparable emotional reaction...

What escrow service?
378  Economy / Speculation / Re: If you're not out, get out. on: October 17, 2011, 07:17:38 PM
...the sum of everyone's daily "buy their product" is A.
Thanks; that was the part I was missing.
379  Economy / Speculation / Re: If you're not out, get out. on: October 17, 2011, 12:19:35 PM
I've been talking fundamentals for a while, and here's my formula:

A = USD-value of goods and services purchased per day in BTC
B = Number of days buyers and sellers hold the coins before and after a transaction
C = Number of coins in circulation
D = Number of coins hoarded by (speculators/early adopters/whatever)

Fundamental price = A * B / (C - D)
Totally agree with your reasoning on a conceptual level, but could you explain the product A*B in a little more detail?
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: At what pricepoint is bitcoin dead? on: October 17, 2011, 12:15:43 PM
[HST traders] do a service to stabilize the currency which is good for merchants.
I keep hearing this claim, but don't know of any empirical evidence for it.  Can you point me to some?
