361  Economy / Economics / Re: Mt.Gox Accounts and passwords released, impact to BTC econ on: June 19, 2011, 10:52:32 PM
Checked, and mine was on the list  Cry

Went and changed other accounts even though the exact same PW wasn't used it was based on an algorithm.

Lets hope this doesn't totally crash the market when things come back on line.
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mtgox's official story is wrong: proof inside. The BTC of every account was sold on: June 19, 2011, 10:05:28 PM
if someone put in a single order to sell 50,000 BTC at $.01 then however many small buy orders were out there would have all been executed as different transactions, and there would now be thousands of people that bought BTC at prices all the way down to $.01. It is more likely that a single large account created those transactions rather than a lot of individuals accounts.

Fun ballgame.  Sucks getting back to find that MT. Gox was hacked. The games are still fun for all though, so keep on playing.
364  Economy / Economics / Re: What is holding you from investing tons of money in this? on: June 19, 2011, 02:44:09 PM
I have dropped about $3000 into mining gear and a dedicated AC unit for them. I've made back about $2400 so far and value the equipment at $1500 used. I feel that ive already made my investment back and continue to bring in more. Now that I've mostly paid back the initial expenses I'm looking at using BTC for other uses like some of the Double Trouble threads and other game sites. It's fun and in my opinion a good use case for BTC.

Regardless of what you do, don't invest what you can't afford to lose

Heading out to a ball game for father's day. Keep the bitcoins flowing and give me a chance to pay out some more people when I get back. And we're almost to the 2nd Jackpot1, just 2 more entries away!!!
366  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is mining hardware still profitable? on: June 19, 2011, 12:56:35 PM
I agree with Yeti to an extent. Buying a whole rig is probably not worth it at this point unless you were going to be buying a new computer anyway. Adding 1 or 2 GPUs to existing rigs may still be worth it though for a few more weeks. It sounds like we may be just a few months away from ASICs going into production, so I wouldn't try to cacuate any return beyond say 90 days.

Just had our biggest payout so far at 6BTC. Keep it coming guys.
368  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Are all these Ponzi schemes and other cons legal? on: June 19, 2011, 10:40:29 AM
I think they are great, but I'm a bit bias because I'm running one of them. I put it up as a way for people to have fun, and I included a nice disclaimer about losing money. All the rules are posted for each of the games, and with block explorer, there isn't really a way the operator can cheat without it being seen in block explorer. As far as health for bitcoins, I think it positive. It moves some bitcoins around and the miners are glad to get a few extra transaction fees out of that. It's also something you can do with bitcoins in their natural form, so it brings some value that way.
369  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Poll: How long will these jackpot games last? on: June 19, 2011, 10:33:46 AM
I started a doubler with jackpots yesterday and it runs for the rest of the week, so it's still plenty early to get in on it.

I like some of the individuals online automated games, but they seem to me to be an easy target for a hacker with a little spare time.

I think once a real online casino comes along that people can trust and have fun at, then all the threads run by people like me will die off.

Two more double payouts sent to winners.

Good night all. I hope to have a few people to pay in the morning. This current block is taking forever to commit, and it looks like somewhere between 2 and 5 transactions will be coming through. The full client keeps showing a 0/unconfirmed come in then it will disappear a few minutes later, so not sure whats up with that. Block Explorer will have the right answers in the morning though.
372  Economy / Economics / Re: All mining might be illegal/parasitic soon on: June 19, 2011, 01:55:32 AM
I think that the OP has a point, but not in the near term. I'm mostly a miner, and my gear should be payed off before the next difficulty increase. I'll keep mining with all my systems (each family member has a dual GPU setup now) until the cost of electricity is greater than the value of the BTC mined. I'm expecting this to be several months off, but will be quite happy if the value goes up to cover difficulty increases.

One thing the OP hasn't taken into account is the ASIC and FPGA mining that can occur at very low electrical use rates. I think before the "legal" miners get squeezed out by the "illegal" miners, that the FPGA and ASIC miners will take over, so all that is left are them and the "illegal" guys.

Lets not forget about the many kids that are using their parents electricity, or college students in a dorm with "free" electricity. These two do't fall under "illegal" in my book, but they also don't have to directly pay for electricity.

Cant blame him though really. He wants to get paid back what he put in. I just like to play them all and let the chips fall where they may  Grin

The most important part is to just have fun with it.

Out of the house for a bit with the fam. Looks like we have our first Jackpot1 winner and a couple more winners that will get paid out once I get back home.
377  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble with a Double Jackpot!!! on: June 18, 2011, 09:47:34 PM
Fair enough. And again I wish you luck on this game I'm not bashing it or anything like that. I was just a bit concerned seeing so many pop up.

And Vegas is owned by 3 big corps which own all the hotels and casinos. That's why they have that air tram that goes from one hotel to another.

Good to know about Vegas being owned by just 3 corps, and thanks for all the bumps on the thread  Grin

Best of luck to you, and I hope you stop back by often.
378  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble with a Double Jackpot!!! on: June 18, 2011, 09:45:15 PM
Thanks Lugard.

We are now up to 3 payouts, and about to hit the first jackpot!!!
379  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble with a Double Jackpot!!! on: June 18, 2011, 09:37:04 PM
I put in a couple plays on the one hawk started because I liked the high roller minimum bid (hence why mine is also starting at 1BTC), but I don't care for a game that has rule changes while the game is still in play(they are somewhat benign, but it's more the principle, just ask any real gambler).

I also have a few plays on the one Tysat started, and will play more into that game. I still prefer the idea of this type of game having a solid end time, hence the creation of this variation.

If there is truly no room in this market for this game then I will not put up a round 2 after the current round is over. If there is a good showing here, then I will continue.

I've always heard that competition is a good thing. Just look at Las Vegas, way more than just one or two casinos you can gamble your money in there. And each of the current games has a slightly different flavor to it, so hopefully there is something for everyone.

anyway, cheers and have fun playing whichever game you like.
