361  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: DiabloMiner GPU Miner (LP, BFI_INT, async nw, multipool, 79xx GCN) on: January 13, 2012, 05:05:24 PM
Pardon my newbie question (I did search).

How do I enable my second Radeon HD6950? I am running DiabloMiner fine with Cayman (#1) running at 312 MHash, but I can clearly tell the second card is not running at all as it is cold.

Linux x64.

362  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [90 GH/s PPLNS] BitMinter.com *** Merged Mining! *** on: January 13, 2012, 03:38:01 PM
My first try at pool mining with DiabloMiner

I get: ERROR: cannot connect to mint.bitminter.com Bitcoin disconnected during response: 500 Internal Server Error

What am I doing wrong? Do I need a bitcoin client running on my miner?

Bitcoin mentioned in this month's Reason Magazine (October 2011) page 10:

"Busting Bitcoin. Senators target virtual currency" by Peter Suderman.

He reports on the lame attempt by some senators to try to ban the currency, and explains how a developer of bitcoin contacted by Reason's Katherine Mangu-Ward noted that "Attempting major illicit transactions with Bitcoin, given existen statistical analysis techniques deployed in the field by law enforcement, is pretty damned dumb"

Was surprised to see an a full two page article in this months Linux Format Magazine (UK) titled "What on Earth is bitcoin?" This is a printed magazine.

A fanciful article that seemed balanced but ended in a sour note about the EFF not accepting bitcoins for donations.
366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bit Coin Vending Machine on: July 31, 2011, 05:19:19 AM
More viable would be a simple vending machine that dispensed junk food and other snacks for bitcoins. A lot cheaper to maintain and service than cash based ones. Could probably offer the same goodies at a much lower price too and still be competetive.
367  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: Bitcoin y deflación on: July 31, 2011, 02:13:14 AM
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tradehill SEPA account frozen! on: July 30, 2011, 05:09:01 AM
for example if Bit-Pay pays the merchant in USD it will have to exchange the received BTC. Any business accepting BTC has to exchange to fiat currency in order to pay suppiers, rent, taxes, etc.
369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tradehill SEPA account frozen! on: July 30, 2011, 04:34:52 AM
However many of these positive developments require trading bitcoin for fiat currencies. I am sure Meze Grill and Bit-Pay use MtGox or Tradehill for example.

i'm not sure that you've been following the bitcoin news lately but there have been SO MANY positive developments just in the past few weeks that its astounding:

1.  Textcoin.uk.co- enables SMS text buying of btc w/o ANY BANKS!  and they plan to go international very soon.
2.  Bit-Pay-will enable btc holders to buy using btc from any merchant who decides to use their service.  and merchants can decide to be paid EITHER in USD or btc.
3.  several Android apps that provide POS pmts to merchants that accept btc.  there are now 3 restaurants, not one, in NY city that accept btc.
4.  Meze Grill will now act as a USD/BTC exchanger w/o ANY BANKS!
5.  the proliferation of btc accepting merchants has gone parabolic if you look at the btc wiki page.
6.  in case you hadn't noticed, financial stocks have been in a downtrend for 5 months now.  B of A is now under $10 a share.  if Wall St decides game over for tradtional stocks and bonds you could see an explosion in the BTC price.  i actually predict this will happen at some point in the blink of an eye and everyone will be left behind.
370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla Fraud - How it happened on: July 30, 2011, 01:33:30 AM
No guessing is required. The legitimate bank account owner can simply log in on a different IP with a changed MAC address (say on an insecured wifi spot), pretend to check his statement, and then afterwards claim that his account was comprimised to reverse the ACH transaction he himself had initiated.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Dwolla is being scammed and reversing transactions on: July 29, 2011, 01:50:44 AM
It does seem impressive, but it doesn't add up IMO.

TradeHill claims that there is a *huge* percentage loss of invalid transactions occurring which the likes of MtGox hasn't even bothered to check. Considering that MtGox has recently suffered a major setback I find that claim dubious, considering the tender freshness of bitcoin trading.. Tradehill claims losses are in the thousands of dollars range... why would *any* financial keep on business as usual while such quantities of money are being thrown around as potential losses?

I also find it suspect that in the other thread, TradeHill starts promoting Paxum.
372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Dwolla is being scammed and reversing transactions on: July 27, 2011, 01:03:17 AM
Well if all this is true, its only a matter of time before Mt Gox is screwed too and they will no longer accept Dwollas also.

I wonder how financial institutions who have to deal with these types of transactions do it. How do you trade in the stock exchange for example?
373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: World's First brick and mortar retailer who now SELLS AND BUYS BITCOIN FOR CASH on: July 26, 2011, 10:21:56 PM
Actually I don't think he has to charge sales tax for bitcoins sold if he has been paid with bitcoins for regular business, since he has already collected the sales tax when he sold his food for bitcoins, bitcoins serving as a type of IOU.

I am also doing bitcoins<->mexican pesos in my comic book stores in Mexico, although so far I have only done one transaction for $BTC 1.65
374  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: Bitcoin en México on: July 24, 2011, 12:49:53 AM

375  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: Hablar de mercado y economia on: July 24, 2011, 12:39:56 AM

378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pokerstars missing on a great opportunity on: July 23, 2011, 12:58:14 AM
If I had the means I would release a Poker client with pure BTC stakes but there are two major problems with poker online: bots and collusion. I just wouldn't have the ability to deal with them. But Pokerstars has plenty of experience. They have invested heavily in detecting pokerbots and collusion.
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pokerstars missing on a great opportunity on: July 23, 2011, 12:54:22 AM
The reason PS got in trouble with the US was because they were accepting cash from US players via doubtful means. With BTC there would be NO WAY the US government could prosecute them.

They could make a totally different client and website (pokerstarbtc.com?) and start from there.
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pokerstars missing on a great opportunity on: July 23, 2011, 12:12:45 AM
Pokerstars is missing on a great opportunity to use bitcoins as a stakes medium.

1. Since it isn't technically cash or any "valid" currency per US standards US players could play with BTC without any legal consequences whatsoever.

2. They can incorporate a micro mining component to their pokerstars client which can give players some microbitcoins and a chance to start playing with minimal stakes sort of like giving away play money. Alternately they could produce the bitcoins themselves and give them away in micro quantities to their new players much like they already do with their own play money (which has actual cash value too about 1 million PS playmoney per $5 USD).

3. they can offer introductory games and tournaments with extremely low stakes given bitcoins divisibility nature. They can easily hold the customers bitcoins in their super secure servers and super easily accept and payout bitcoins.

I am just wondering wtf are they waiting for? Are they planning on making their own virtual currency just for pokerstars? That would be dumb IMO.
