361  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A dangerous gambling behavior of a gambler on: August 19, 2024, 11:33:22 AM
Questions for discussion:
Why would a gambler adventure in  such a risk knowing the embarrassment he would have received or even getting arrested for it.
Some people are just criminal-minded. They usually want to maximize any slight chance to cheat or steal from people. Others might engage in such an act due to gambling addiction. They chase losses and end up gambling more than they can afford.

Quote
If you happen to be the manager of that gambling shop what will be your action towards the foolishness of such an employee. Will it just be an angry shout or beyond that?
I guess your local currency is the naira, thus #32k is less than $22. I might cover the loss if it was her first blunder. Deducting the amount gradually from her earnings will be another option if she has been careless.

Quote
Do you think there is any measure through which the strange guy could be identified since there was no CCTV cameras stationed in and outside the shop environs?
The only person that can identify this criminal is the cashier or any other witness. If nobody present can, there is no way to identify him. However, such criminals usually target other gambling shops rather than returning to their previous victims.

The owner of the betting shop should consider training his staff and also installing CCTV cameras.
362  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Crypto influencers on notice after FTC bans fake likes and followers on: August 19, 2024, 11:00:32 AM
This law is a welcomed development because these fake reviews, followers, and likes on social media accounts are deceptive. People usually trust platforms with positive reviews and robust followers and this has led to an increase in scams. Social media accounts should be allowed to grow organically to reflect the state of the owners. Reviews should be a true reflection of people's views about a crypto product.

I have seen some adverts about boasting social media accounts to gain a high number of followers in this forum and I see this as a very dishonest act. I wish this law would be copied by our lawmakers because some of these influencers with probably fake details are conniving with scammers to defraud the people. These criminals deserve to pay high fines or serve a jail term.
I'm thinking a little differently.
Even Twitter or YouTube don't know how many fake users they have. So I don't understand the procedure by which this law will work.
For example, you have a YouTube channel and I'm your hater. I give you fake reviews and you pay a fine Grin
The rule will be very difficult to implement. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) would have to establish that both parties sold or bought fake indicators. Therefore, there has to be a financial transaction to prove it. The law also includes using artificial intelligence to fake reviews, this can be easily identified. However, I am concerned that this law can be used by competitors to attack platforms. Time will tell how they intend to enforce this law.
363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: He wants to Invest in Bitcoin for His Retirement. on: August 19, 2024, 10:39:59 AM
If he is looking for an investment where he can feed from then he should open a retail trade and employe someone that can be doing the sales, while he will stand as the manager, even if he must invest some his retirement fund into Bitcoin, I suggest you advice him to start a retail trade that can be earning him profit consecutively. That's only when he can be able to hold his Bitcoin for a long time. Like you already said, if he only rely on the Bitcoin, you might end up to sell the Bitcoin during price dip.
It will be risky for a retiree to invest all his retirement benefits in Bitcoin. He can take this step if he has another reliable source of income after retirement. But if he doesn't, I suggest he divide these funds into long-term and short-term investments. He should consider taking a part-time job or establishing a business that will generate daily or monthly income to enable him to take care of his daily needs. Investing in Bitcoin should be a long-term plan where he would be willing to hodl for a minimum of four years. He should also make provisions for emergency funds, to cushion the effect of emergencies.
364  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2024/2025 on: August 18, 2024, 07:13:25 PM
It's good for Arsenal to start the season with a win. The harmony between Saka and Havertz is very good. Raya made a very important save when the score was 1-0. Arsenal finished the match with a clean sheet. There are positives against Wolves, we will see what will happen against stronger opponents. There is a more difficult match next week, against Aston Villa. Liverpool and Manchester City also started with win. The competition will be exciting again.
The race for the title has started, and the big teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City got the maximum three points. While Chelsea and West Ham both had disappointing results. Chelsea's owner, Todd Boehly, had to leave the stadium after that classic goal by Mateo Kovacic, which shows his disappointment with the team's performance. The Blues have not been able to solve their attacking problems after creating some chances. Their next Premier League game will be against Wolves after the Europa Conference League playoff match with the Swiss Super League Servette FC. We will see how these two losers (Chelsea and Wolves) will react in their next game.
365  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How does new sports seasons affect your general schedule? on: August 18, 2024, 05:58:09 PM
It’s the opposite in my country, people don’t care about the new season begins because we are a country that busy on work and businesses. We usually just turn to sports mode on when the finals or play-offs is already enter since we tend to do bandwagon on popular teams that currently dominating the league.
I'm curious to know what country you speak of. That's a country I would very much love to visit and live in. It must be a very productive country. If I may ask, what is your national sports? Is it football or some other sport? My country is crazy about football. There's always a frenzy when the it's game night.
In some countries, you need to work very hard to have a good life. Less attention is given to entertainment because people work during weekends. My country is also crazy about football especially the English Premier League and any other competition the national team is competing in. Saturdays and Sundays are usually work-free days in the civil service, and most businesses are closed on Sundays. So it is common to see sports lovers at home and in public places watching football.

Exactly what the OP has narrated. But I think it is a toxic kind of relationship. If people choose football over every other thing unless football watching football is what pays the bills. Where it is not it is unnecessary to invest so much productive hours into it at the detriment of ones livelihood or regular life.
It is not a conscious behavior. Following sporting activities can be addictive, and you wouldn't know when it has started affecting your relationship with loved ones. However, it is pertinent to balance our dedication to sports with jobs and family. The family comes first, our source of income should be next before any other activities.

367  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 18, 2024, 12:18:54 PM
It seems Manchester United is not interested anymore in hiring Frenkie de Jong.  Frenkie de Jong was a young and talented player which made some teams to be interested in hiring this player and they were interested in having this player and keeping him for a long time. Manchester United was about to hire this player and Frenkie de Jong even left some training sessions in Barcelona and people were expecting to see Frenkie de Jong in Manchester United.
But since De Jong was injured for a long time, and he was mostly out of good form, Manchester United is not considering other options instead of De Jong.

Some news outlets reported that Manchester United is considering a swap deal between Jadon Sancho and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. Barca is willing to let the Frenkie leave at the right price since they have signed a more reliable player Dani Olmo. Meanwhile, Manchester United is keen to land a central midfielder since the deal to get Manuel Ugarte is not going smoothly due to a gap in the valuation of the player. Luis Enrique made it clear that the Uruaguan is not in his plans, but the price PSG is asking is far above the value United has for the player.

Football can be very unpredictable; this is the same Frankie that United was willing to pay as much as €85 million for two years ago. Now, injuries and age will make him move to Old Trafford at a cheaper rate.  United boss Erik ten Hag has worked with Frenkie and sees him as an asset. Sancho might be a good addition to the Barca attacking force and Hansi Flick might be able to bring out the best in him.
368  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Inflation hits lowest level since spring 2021, most likely teeing up rate cuts on: August 18, 2024, 11:44:02 AM
With Biden's proven track record of keeping our overall economy stable and growing, this is great news for Bitcoin.
With inflation reducing, there is hope that the Feds will reduce interest rates maybe by next month. The economy needs to loosen up a bit because it is affecting many households and businesses. The unemployment rate increased slightly in June, and businesses need to have access to loans to expand their operations and create more job opportunities. Households need to have access to credit facilities to sort out their needs. For Bitcoiners, it will be good news since, just like other economic activities, there is a strong relationship between the price of Bitcoin and interest rates. A further decrease in inflation this month will surely propel the Feds to reduce interest rates.
369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goods and services that can be purchased with bitcoin on: August 18, 2024, 07:23:12 AM
We need an aternate economy, one that is not controlled by government, not controlled by the Rothchilds banking cartel.
The government is currently more interested in Bitcoin than ever before. We saw the approval of Bitcoin Spot ETF and the active integration of Bitcoin in the campaigns of some major politicians. Some politicians are even pushing laws for their country to buy and keep more Bitcoin. The government already had plans to be a key player in the Bitcoin industry.

I don't share the op's view of the world turning "communist". I think there is significant authoritarian backlash over the last several years, and that democracy is globally challenged, but that we still live in some of the freest times in human history.
In any case, Bitcoin welcomes people of various political standpoints, and it does offer an alternative to the traditional economy. How much you can directly use Bitcoin to buy goods and services depends on your region, but you can Google a map of places accepting Bitcoin (or use some of the links others have provided). Then just visit the places close to you and find out if it's accurate.
.
People in advanced nations with a high rate of literacy and advanced technology will be more open to accepting Bitcoin than those from third-world nations. Many businesses accept Bitcoin as payment, and you can easily find them online. I don't think up to three or four businesses are accepting Bitcoin in my city with a population of about 5.5 million people. Thus the rate of Bitcoin adoption is different in diverse region.
370  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: August 18, 2024, 05:35:43 AM

Leverkusen have won the German Super Cup and it was hell of a work honestly.  Smiley  Because they got a red card in the first half but this still didn't stop them. Even though Stuttgart got ahead, they came back and won by penalties. Xabi Alonso is continuing on his magical run. Starting the season with trophy must be feeling superb for the whole team and the fans.

It is good to see that the same spirit exists among the players. Maybe another unbeaten run is about to start...  Tongue
Just when many of us were worried about Bayer Leverkusen and if they'll be able to continue their impressive performance of last season, they delivered an incredible display tonight against Stuttgart to win the German Super Cup. Bayer Leverkusen with their strong and resilient style of football have once again proven that they can do even more than they last season with that awesome show tonight. Xabi Alonso have instilled in his players the strong spirit to believe in themselves even when they're trailing and that's the kind of mentality you need to succeed as a top club. Can Leverkusen retain the league this season or would Bayern Munich work hard to stop that from happening?
It was not an easy game, especially after Martin Terrier's straight red card. Stuttgart took control of the game and would have won but was denied three times by the woodwork. Bayer Leverkusen, a club that has a history of scoring equalizing goals from the 85th minute and above, leveled up the game in the 87th minute through Patrik Schick's composed finish. Stuttgart deserved to win, but penalty shootout is a game of luck, so they lost after losing two shots by Frans Kraetzig and Silas Mvumpa.

Xabi Alonso showed some level of tactical prowess when he immediately removed Victor Boniface and brought in Germany defender Jonathan Tah immediately after the red card. But Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness took advantage of the red card and introduced Undav and Kraetzig, and this duo kept mounting pressure on the Leverkusen defense. Great work for Xabi and his strong fighting side for winning the German Super Cup for the first time. They have started the unbeaten run this season and we would have to wait to know how far they will go.

Wait, didn't Ben Chilwell play quite well last season? What do you think made Enzo Maresca tell him to leave? I can't believe what happened to Chelsea. In fact, this team will always make big spending when the transfer season arrives and if this continues without end then they will not be able to create an ideal squad to win the competition.

I also don't know for sure why Enzo Maresca doesn't like him and indeed every coach has his own choice of players who will be included in the planning. If Ben Chilwell leaves it is actually quite good for his career rather than continuing to be in a silly team like Chelsea. I look forward to a club that wants to recruit him and if there isn't one by the end of this summer he will likely spend more time on the bench.

Chelsea's management engaged in a careless spending spree that left the club with about 43 first-team players. Now it seems the club wants to reduce the number of players, and the head coach, Enzo Maresca, is facing a hard task in selecting his team. With the spectacular performance of Marc Cucurella in the Euros you would expect the coach to give him the first team shirt. With young substitutes like Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill, and Renato Veiga, Ben Chiwell will have to leave. You wouldn't blame the coach because some players would be sacrificed.

The English player is exceptional and well-experienced, but his biggest challenge is his injury-prone nature and his high wage. He is always in and out of games due to several injuries. He still has about three years left in his contract, so Chelsea would want to cash out on his sales or send him on loan to any interested club that can pay his bills. Ben should move to another club where he would play consistently rather than waste his time on the bench of the Blues.
372  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you care if you win or lose at gambling before an important occasion? on: August 17, 2024, 04:06:12 PM
*Would you rather gamble before or after an important occasion to be careful not to spoil your mood?
It will depend on the occasion. Celebrations like birthdays and other religious festivals are periods of entertainment, so gambling might be fun before, during, or after it. What matters is that I am gambling with what I can afford to lose. Some religious organizations even organize events that are similar to gambling for fun and profits. Other occasions, like the burial of a relative or friend, should be solemn, so I would avoid gambling before or after it because I wouldn't be in a good mood to enjoy my game.

*Do you care if you win or lose at gambling before an important occasion?
But I wouldn't care if I lose or win before an occasion since I am gambling within my budget. I don't attach much emotion to gambling, it could be disappointing.
373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is not human, someone have to use it right. on: August 17, 2024, 03:15:32 PM
Bitcoin is not the solution to countries with high poverty rate if the leaders are all corrupt.
Even without corruption, Bitcoin is not still the solution to poverty. Without the right economic policies nations will still be underdeveloped. If the government fails to handle inflation, illiteracy, and insecurity, Bitcoin will do little or nothing.  Apart from corruption, poverty can be reduced by industrialization, economic diversification, and technological advancement.

Bitcoin could help a country to get additional revenue if the government, businesses, or citizens are involved in it. It could also attract crypto investors to the country if the government makes friendly laws, and it could help reduce the cost of international payment transactions.

https://dailypost.ng/2024/08/17/transfer-psg-set-to-return-for-osimhen-as-goncalo-ramos-fractures-ankle/

PSG might have to rekindle their interest in Victor Osimhen because of the ankle injury suffered by Goncalo Ramos in the 1-4 win over Le Havre. It is reported that the Portugal international will require surgery that might sideline him for close to three months. Chelsea will now have a strong competitor for the services of the Nigerian international. PSG was reluctant to secure Victor because they were relying on Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani. But with this long-term injury, signing a new striker has become unavoidable.
375  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing on Cryptocurrency is safer than saving or investing with local banks on: August 17, 2024, 02:11:16 PM
Many people in my country still don't believe in Cryptocurrency and would rather save or invest with local banks but the recent sad event would serve as an eye opener to them. One of the top leading banks in my country (GTB) got there server invaded by hackers, some period before it happened they where advising customers to buy their shares and many customers did, I feel so sorry for those who bought shares with them cause their money is probably gone.
There is some level of risk in all investments. People have also lost their investment in Bitcoin due to hacks and other security breaches.

Whereas investors could only lose totally on Cryptocurrency when they fail to invest on Bitcoin or other good Cryptocurrencies and instead invest on shit coins, or they save their assets on a custodial wallet instead of a non-custodial one, else Cryptocurrency especially Bitcoin is one of the best and safest investment any investor could think of.
Some people have also lost money investing in Bitcoin. Due to FUD, impatience, or ignorance, some investors have sold below the amount they bought. There is no guarantee that you will make a profit from Bitcoin.

I wonder why anyone would even think of buying shares with a local bank or saving huge part of their money with them, when they could save for a long-term with Bitcoin and make huge returns later, Bitcoin blockchain makes it very secured and the only ways an investor is at risk is saving their asset with a wallet that could easily be penetrated by hackers or fail to safeguard their private keys.
Investing in Bitcoin is a good option but smart investors diversify. Having a long time and short-term investment is advisable. There is nothing wrong with buying shares of a high-performing bank. You could use the yearly dividends to sort out some expenses while you wait for the maturity of long-term investments such as Bitcoin.
376  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The advantage of online gambling | Microgambling on: August 17, 2024, 01:33:22 PM
Something often overlooked about online gambling is that you can go on online platforms to gamble with very tiny minuscule amounts

Your observations are correct about online casinos. Recently, the minimum deposit in physical casinos in my country has increased due to inflation. Now one needs to deposit a high amount to play a particular game. But online gambling gives better lower options. You could enjoy a long time playing your favorite games with little funds. This makes online casinos the best training ground for new gamblers since they can learn without losing so much money. But some online minimum withdrawal limit is high, which is in contrast with brick-and-mortar casinos that can remit lower sums to gamblers.
377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Arrogance evolves tyranny... A continuation! on: August 17, 2024, 12:42:17 PM
There's a saying that "if a handshake advances above the elbow, it becomes a fight "  Do you know of anything else that could make people act that weird? Drop your suggestions...
Some gamblers have the mentality that they have been cheated by the system each they lose. This will make them to overreact. I have been in a physical bet where a gambler complained that he was always unlucky each time he placed a bet on a particular casino. Thus, insinuating that their games are unfair.

Another reason could be the influence of drugs or alcohol. Gamblers might overreact to a loss in an abnormal manner if they take excessive alcohol or use illicit drugs. I have seen drunk gamblers insult and even assault some casino employees because they lost.
378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dubai approves bitcoin for salary payment on: August 17, 2024, 11:45:05 AM
I saw this news yesterday, but I saw no public acceptance of crypto currency in there. It was only made clear that the said EcoWatt is now recognised and could be used as salary payment in the company as agreed, as long as it's acceptable by both the employer and the employee.
This news is born out of the court judgment that ruled that an employer should pay its ex-employee the EcoWatt tokens that were included in the contract as part of his salary. The employer didn't want to pay the employee because they claimed that payment in crypto is not legally enforceable in the country. This landmark ruling has paved the way for the paying and acceptance of cryptocurrencies' wages or salaries. OP might be assuming that this judgment might lead to public acceptance of cryptos.

I read about it this morning. Dubai is becoming a hub for Bitcoin adoption, which is great since it's a popular tourist destination. However, I have one concern. Due to Bitcoin's volatility, many people might hesitate to receive their salaries in Bitcoin, as they want to preserve the value of their money in the long term. This is especially true for those who are new to cryptocurrency. If receiving salaries in Bitcoin is optional, not mandatory, it will be a step in the right direction.
Accepting Bitcoin or other crypto as salaries will be based on agreement between the employer and employee. Even the case that led to this law was about paying salaries both fiat and a token called EcoWatt. Based on the contract, the worker was meant to receive a salary in fiat alongside 5,250 EcoWatt tokens. So, I think accepting crypto as salaries will be optional.
379  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: August 17, 2024, 10:53:12 AM
This is a long-running drama regarding Osimhen.

The latest news reported by reporter Farbizio a few hours ago, Chelsea claimed that the matter regarding Osimhen and Lukaku, was not a swap deal, Chelsea was focused on selling Lukaku. In fact, Chelsea clearly stated that there is "No Negotiation over Swap". Napoli is doing negotiation and getting personal agreement.

Source: Chelsea see Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen as separate deals.
When will this drama come to an end? This deal shouldn't be this complicated since both teams have an interest in players. Napoli should be willing to cut down the release clause on Osimhen if they want him to move to Chelsea. And Chelsea should also consider shifting some grounds in Lukaku's release clause. Chelsea doesn't want a loan for Lukaku, they want to sell him outrightly. The transfer market window will close in less than two weeks, and both teams need to come up with something. Both players will be going through some pressure since their transfer issues have not been settled.

Antonio Conte dropped Osimhen from the pre-season, and he was not in the squad that faced Moden in the Coppa Italia. Lukaku's condition is even more complicated because he has no place in Chelsea this season. These players will keep going through this uncertain experience until their deals are settled.

What is even much worse is when the so-called allies and Human rights observing states continue to side with Israel and even pump them more funds to continue the terrorism. Tell me a much bigger financing of Terrorism operation than what is happening right now  Cry

Just double standards at play and a bunch of hypocrites. I will never view the Western Politicians again like the way I used to.
Some nations claim that they are the champions of human rights and the uphold the doctrine of equality. But we clearly see partiality in Gaza. Are Palistanins less human than others? Each time there is a bombing of civilian habitation, the same nations who are supplying the weapons and financing the operation will be the first to condemn the actions of these invaders. They know what to do to stop these massacres, but they have chosen to play to the gallery and watch the horror. I pity workers who would have to hide their sympathy for Gazian because they want to keep their jobs; it is a tormenting condition.
