361  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER miner overclock monitor fanspeed RPC in C linux/windows/osx 2.1.2 on: January 19, 2012, 05:38:02 PM
simplify your config file for testing.

Use
Code:
"gpu-engine" : 840

and see what it runs at.  If that won't work try 820, 800, 780, etc.

If no matter what you set it runs @ 775 then it might be bios locked.

cgminer doesn't "set" the card it is more like a "request"  (hey GPU could you please run at 840?).  The card is free to ignore/reject requests that it considers invalid (defined by the card bios).

Bummer... looking like my cards are giving me a big rasberry when I request anything above 775  (750,770 they take just fine) .. same scenario with my low memory setting...

Plan B:  unoficial overclock mode in afterburner Smiley

Thanks for the help.

hoping someone can help me out...  looked thru the thread and can't seem to find an answer...

can the gpu-engine overclock in CGMiner go beyond the normal factory default max overclock?  specifically I've got a bank of 5850's that won't go past 775 mhz.  Also, even though I'm setting gpu-memclock, it doesn't seem to be sticking either.   The fan settings in my *.conf file seem to be working, so I'm pretty sure its reading the correct file.   Pertinant parts of the *.conf file below:

"intensity" : "d,9,9,9",

"gpu-fan" : "10-85,10-85,10-85,10-85",
"temp-cutoff" : "95,95,95,95",
"temp-overheat" : "85,85,85,85",
"temp-target" : "75,75,75,75",
"auto-fan" : true,

"gpu-memclock" : "250,250,250,250",
"gpu-engine" : "0-840,0-840,0-840,0-840",
"auto-gpu" : true,

and direction/advice would be appreciated.

thanks,

Is it possible to turn on the --submit-stale option in the *.conf file?

What is the exact format the entry needs to be in the file?

I think a good portion of this is probably abcpool.co   they have ~500 Ghash, but are not listed.

I was so upset when I finally saw this thread and they were already sold out.

At least I was able to get 8 of the 5850's Smiley

http://www.butterflylabs.com/product-details/

Raw performance:

832 Mega Hash / second  (+/- 10% running variance)
Power consumption:

80w at load

--------------------------------

I don't remember that +/- being mentioned before..  I take the above to mean "as long as we can push 750 M/h at 80 watts, we're good"

On the original test box, wasn't it 82 watts?  Looks to me like they didn't get as much of a power boost from the new power module that they hoped for....

On the flipside.. If they are in fact updating product descriptions based on testing of actual shipping units, I'd call this a good thing...

Remaining cautiously optomistic,

hey.. looked at the website and it no longer lists the singles as "pre-order" ..  has anyone recieved their units yet?

Are we looking at 4-6 weeks to print shipping labels now?

In all seriousness, the day I see a post by a reputable forum member that says they've actually recieved a working unit, I'll be putting in an order for several of them..  I just can't see putting up 2+ grand without at least that small comfort level.

At the very least, i'd like to see them take credit cards directly, so that I could have the CC company do a chargeback if it turns scammy.  (yeah, I know you can do a CC through paypal, but I've had paypal issues in the past trying to get a legit chargeback to stick)

Thinking about it some.. I really don't believe you'd have much of a forking problem, at least at a solar system scale.   Realistically the majority of hashing power will be located here on Earth for the forseeable future.  With that caveat, it'd almost be guaranteed the longest chain would always be the Terra chain.  You are looking at the same 51% attack scenario... in order for a serious fork to happen, you'd have to have close to 50% of total network hash capacity located a significant distance away from Earth.  Actually, for just about any real non terra based mining, you'd have to have a huge investment to start up or you'd be guaranteed to always lose on the longest chain contest.  I can't see this happening.

Sucks for those Martian miners.  But their only chance to make any dough would be a mars-coin branch.

a question on the history..

Looking at the hashrate history chart, it appears Jan 2 is a little wonky (at least for me) ..   my MH/s is consistant accross Jan 1,2,3 but the BTC takes a noticable dip on the 2nd..  Any idea whats up with that?

Bitcoins can be set up to be sold automatically and immediately in MtGox.

Not to hijack this thread.. but i looked all over MTGOX and can't find where to set this up..  Where do you go to turn this on?  Or do you have to use the API?

questions on the new fee / donation environment...

the donation field is still on the accounts tab.  In the new environment, if we choose to donate, will this be on top of the 4% fee?

In the past, the history was avaliable with a 1.5% donation.  Will this still be avaliable under the flat 4% fee? or will we need to make an additinal 1.5% donation bringing the total up to 5.5%?

thanks,

Off of the "is it a scam" topic...

I was looking around the website and the Drivers page appears to point all links back to itself.  Would it be possible to post some screenshots of the software so we can know/make suggestions on what features are supported?

I.e. ..

Does the front end software support fail-over pools?
What OS's are supported? just Windows 7?  what about XP?
Is there a realtime Mh/s readout?

I think the hardware requirements were already addressed as "if it can run a browser, thats good enough"

thanks,

373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Credit Card Design on: December 09, 2011, 08:11:18 PM
Frickin' nice! Very nice! Personally, I'm having trouble getting my head wrapped around the term 'Credit Card' . Perhaps a different word or term for what you have here is in order. Hopefully the community can help me (us) out with this issue I'm having.

I think the more appropriate term would be debit card..  Just instead of the funds coming out of your bank account, they'd come out of your wallet.

The only issue is.. since there is nothing on the card to allow you to "push" the funds by initiating a payment, a protocol would have to be developed for a "pull" transaction ...  This does, of course, involve a level of trust in where you "swipe" your card since you would really have no control over the amount of the "pull" and no recourse if more-than-expected funds were taken from your wallet.

In light of the previously mentioned wrong-address payouts:   Might I suggest removing the 1% contribution requirement for viewing the payout history?  At least for a week or so.  That way everyone can go in and verify their payout history to make sure they weren't affected.

375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ABCPool.co: support thread for the 0% Pay-per-Share pool that pays for stales! on: August 27, 2011, 06:33:15 PM

A much more logical reason is that old work causes the pool to miss out on transaction fees. How is that? New transaction (and their fees) keep coming in over time, and make the next block more valuable with every second that passes since the previous block. If someone hands in work that is 120 seconds old, that solution will not contain the transactions from the last 120 seconds. Remember that there are on average only 600 seconds between blocks. This means that work that is 120 seconds old misses out on (on average) 20% of possible transaction fees. Those 20% are passed on to the finder of block n+2 however, so the effect cancels out. Unless there is some pool that decreases or increases its age-limit, because that will shift the fees in favor of one of the parties.

OK.. thats a much more logical explination than I've been able to find... thanks.

On a different note:  Are you guys tweaking the back end right now?  looking at my miners, they're reporting that I'm getting over 50% rejects today.  Switching over to my backup, they went down to <1% , so I don't think its on my side...

Thanks,
Sigg
376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ABCPool.co: support thread for the 0% Pay-per-Share pool that pays for stales! on: August 27, 2011, 01:18:07 PM
Thanks for the suggestion Sigg. Our stale rate has been rising along with pool hashrate, and that's a concern. Time rolling is indeed one of the ways we are considering for lowering our stales. As a miner that doesn't have to keep you awake at night, because we pay for stales anyway Smiley

Glad to know yer monitoring this thread.  Any chance you could give us your thoughts on my 120-second post above?

I agree that the stales are your problem, not ours  (though I'd really like to see them come down also, so far I like you guys) ..  The 120 second rule is, however, adversely impacting the invalid share count.  While a 1% invalid rate isn't exactly keeping me up at night, I'd still like to see it closer to zero Smiley

Sigg

377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Quiet Mining Rig? on: August 26, 2011, 09:41:15 PM
1) massively underclock the memory on your GPU cards to between 250-300 ..  (you should be doing this anyway to save power)  Unless taken to absolute extremes, this will not impact mining performance.  It will, however, impact gaming performance if this is a dual-use rig.

2) If noise is a bigger concern than performance, underclock the cores on your GPU cards.  This will also save power, and allow you to lower the voltage on the card, saving more power.

By trimming your power consumption, you generate less heat.  The less heat you generate the slower the fan needs to run.  You'll notice there is a cutoff point where the fan will go from "wife has you sleeping in the doghouse" loud to nearly silent.

Sigg

Hi all,

been lurking for quite awhile.. finally made an account.

currently mining with about 2.4 Ghash .. more hardware on the way  Smiley  ... This could become an expensive hobby...  Wife has already banished my rigs to the garage..   Just wait till this winter when she's freezing cuz I've re-routed the furnace feed to the garage ...  MUHAHAHAHA !!! she'll be doing some re-thinking then  *evil grin*

Anyways, just dropped in to say Hi.

I soooo hate replying to myself .. but since I saw in the main thread that you guys are wanting to concentrate on stale and invalid shares...

have you seen this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=38629.0

more details here:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Getwork#rollntime

Looks like they have a mod to phoenix that gets them down to near zero (with some server side support).   I'm currently running over 3% between stales and invalids.. I'd love to knock that down.

OK,  so I have a question about this 120 second invalid share thing.

I understand this is the default value in the software, but WHY?  Why is an otherwise valid share that takes 121 seconds to generate tossed in the trash?  A 119 second solution that solves a block is fine, but a 121 second block solving solution is not?

From reading the forums, my best guess is that this was originally put in place way back in the dark ages to discurage the use of _very_ slow (read: CPU) miners.  Well, thats great if the dificulty is only 100K, but now that the dificulty has increased nearly 20-fold, shouldn't this warrent a second look?

A miner putting out 80 Mhash may not exactly be top of the line, but it is still very viable if you get rid of the 120 second limitiation.

Also, it seems to me that if you have a miner that supports long-polling, the 120 second limit becomes completely pointless.

Are there some system resource issues on the back end that I'm not aware of? Or something like that?

Since I'm stuck in newbie-land, if someone could re-post this to the main thread, it would be appreciated.

thanks,
Sigg
