As someone involved in the precious metals market I am watching these developments. However, they are many years away so I'm not too worried for the near future.
But if and when they do strike a major load, it will take time for it to be mined, processed, and integrated into the economy.

Now what I think he would like, judging from this video, is a currercy that is controlled in the same way as bitcoin (decentralized) but with a different algorithm. First he discredits a money supply where the inflation is predetermined. He prefers an algorithm that tracks GDP. Unfortunately he doesn't give any insights as how this should work technically. Here are my ideas:
I sounds to me like he wants the currency to remain stable in price, so if you have X units that can buy Y units of a basket of goods then in 20 years that same X units will buy that same Y units of the basket. That would make planning much simpler, for businesses and retirement. But it can't work. There's no way any central authority can possibly know enough to manage the money supply, no matter how much computer power it has. The only way to manage a money supply is to not manage it at all - that is, to let the free market manage it via the interactions and choices of everyone. |

I ship gold all the time in the U.S., and all over the world.
There are some restrictions, like UPS doesn't want to touch it and FedEx won't insure it.
And my gold cards are some of the smallest units out there (that is, you can get some gold for not a lot of BTC).

I really don't know. I built mine myself and learned as I went. To be honest, you've probably got the skills to do it yourself as well. It will take some time to learn how to do it yourself, but I think it's well worth the effort. Forget about coming up with new schemes. Bitlotto is great as is. Now you just need to work on making it more appealing to people who visit your site for the first time. Right now, I'll bet there are a lot of people who don't spend more than two seconds on your site simply because it doesn't look professional enough.
But I really think you could fix that with Drupal or even Wordpress. Drupal is great even for non-blogs, whereas Wordpress is better suited for blogs. But I will say this: your site might not look like a blog, but it kind of is. Every month you get new content in the form of

Drupal would probably be most optimal, but I think it's more difficult to learn than Wordpress. But I could be wrong. I just felt it was more difficult because I learned Wordpress. But seriously, you need a Content Management System like Drupal or Wordpress. No need to make it difficult on yourself by building a whole website from scratch. Those days are over.
I dunno Seth, if you look at my portfolio of Drupal sites you can pretty easily tell which ones had someone else do the design.  Shire Silver isn't too bad, and I did that one myself, but I do wish it was better. And I did get graphics help from DoomsDayDevice (AKA Puke). But yes, you can probably get someone to make you a design and convert it to a Drupal Theme without too much trouble. Do it with the Omega theme and you can make it work nicely on mobile and tablet devices too. |

Suddenly, everyone already had the idea  My thought originally was that we should get rid of files altogether. A hierarchical file system is pretty stupid IMHO. You essentially have to figure out how to categorize something when you create it, and it can only have that one category. Do you classify a song as "Rock", "Good for working out", "Fun driving music", "Guitar", or something else; because you have to choose only one! Screw that, put it in a database and let it have as many keywords as you want. That, of course, led to why the heck not put code in a database, then break it down into the smallest reusable chunks. But I'm so over being a coder. I'm working on being an entrepreneur these days. |

That really got my attention when in the video he mentioned that the smallest unit of code is the function, and not the file. I've been thinking that for a long time.

I learned the hard way to always use tracking on shipping, which adds to the shipping cost. I know I've had a handful of orders I shipped where I actually took a small loss because the shipping ended up being more than I charge on really small orders.

I vote for making it look a bit more 'slick'. Looks a dogs dinner right now. Go get a graphic designer on the case  I'm no designer, but the look of the site does affect people's opinion of the stability and professionalism of the business. One thing that bugs me is the use of the red and green in the table. Maybe play around with different shade, like you can here: http://colorschemedesigner.com/#0041ZnTu-w0w0Also, the black background on the non-trading assets is a bit jarring. Maybe change that to a dark blue-grey? More pictures (relevant ones, not just for fluff) might help. Some icons, and maybe a little more padding on some places. |

Shire Silver already makes these. No idea if he accepts Bitcoin though. Sorry to wake a sleeping thread, but there's news somewhat relevant to the thread. As of last week Shire Silver does now accept bitcoin using our shopping cart! (We did accept it on an ad-hoc basis before that, but it was too clunky.) And we are a fan of letting currencies float against each other. |
