GO SLUSH 200% LUCK!!! GO GO GO !!! (Cheerleaders needed, please apply here)

Whats the best bang for 1500 dollars ASIC wise at the moment?

Just a thought, ASIC Cubes don't look to be good value.

Taa

Cubes? I have three jalepenos, basically mining dust at the moment. It's amazing to see what the damn things sell for on E-bay, if I was smart I'd put them on there. I'm not sure if mining is profitable unless you can afford a few tera-hashes. Don't quote me though, I'm certainly not an expert.

If you can't make a profit at 15 Gh/s, then you can't make a profit at 15,000 Gh/s either

Yeah... you can.. it depends on the cost of the hash

Really? you're going to argue this one? This is like the old joke, " i lose money on every sale, but i'll make it up in volume." What ever happens at 15 Gh/s will happen times 1000. If you lose money at the low rate, you lose at the high rate too, times 1000.
362  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to create BTC miners that orbit the sun for power? on: December 07, 2013, 07:50:32 PM
Something i notice when people look for ways to increase the value of what they mine. They forget that the number of coins mined during any given time period is fixed. Say you had your solar powered miner in orbit. how much would it cost to build it and launch it? How many bitcoins would it have to mine to break even, or make a profit? What would your hash rate have to be to mine that many coins in say 3 - 5 years? In the mean time, everyone on earth would be buying newer faster miners, decreasing your income. People forget that the supply of coins is finite and we are all fighting over the same coins. Everytime i increase my bitcoin income, i'm lowering everyone elses, and vice versa.

OP, your "economic standpoint" is flawed. In any fundemental Economics class they will teach you that anything is only worth what someone else is will to pay for it.

On the workers page there is a setting to set min difficulty. I have a rig that hashes approx 560Gh/sec, which number is best to set this at?

Also, can anyone recommend a site (I'm in the US) that I can send my NMC to and trade for BTC?
Thanks

I use BTC-e.com to turn NMC coin into BTC then transfer the result to my wallet. you can make the exchange address for your account the one BTCguild sends to.
366  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: USB Erupters price gone crazy on: December 06, 2013, 07:37:04 PM
because those rigs aren't tied to btc prices.  they accept BTC for payment, but the btc is immediately exchanged for fiat.  ASICminer transacts in btc only, which is why their hardware went up in price.

Fair point, very interesting. Though I think the Block Erupters on eBay aren't tied to BTC either/take BTC as payment, but they have gone up hugely in price...

The crazy thing is that people are actually paying these prices. let see what things look like in a couple weeks if the exchange rate keeps dropping.
367  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: USB port mining is dead on: December 06, 2013, 07:34:50 PM
OP Sell that thing so that someone who appreciates it can have it. I've been accumlateing Block erupters over time. I've got about 130 of those little suckers and since May this year I've mined 22 Bitcoin. at today's exchange rate, i've actually made a profit. The whole time people have been saying don't do it, you'll never break even. And I've countered with that for me it is just a hobby, because it is. showing a profit is just a fringe benefit. Cheesy
The question is did you return the amount of Bitcoins you have spent for buying those?
Otherwise it would have been better to keep the Bitcoins or buy them instead of the USB miners.

Buying Bitcoins in the US is much more difficult than buying hardware. Buying Bitcoins doesn't appeal to me as being fun. Running my own little mining operation is fun for me. As i said, this is a hobby. I'm not in it for the money.

I saw this was already answered, but I'll add another $.02 worth...

Difficulty is worker based, not user based.  Also, while additional workers don't consume much bandwidth, they do consume something.  If you have bandwidth limitations, you may notice a difference by figuring out how to get them all on the same worker.  That's what I noticed with 3 rigs, each with one or more worker.  I noticed a difference in internet response time by pointing my rigs to one local proxy and having that proxy feed all the data to the pool under one worker.

Of course if you don't have bandwidth limitations, ignore this. Smiley

M

You should be able to point more than one machine at the same worker without having to go through a proxy, unless you are using blades, then you need a proxy regardless.

Hmm.  I thought I heard that a bad idea.  Maybe it was pre-stratum?

M
If the objective is to minimize bandwidth usage, running a local proxy will help achieving that goal, whereas having all of your miners polling separately will not, even if they're all on the same worker account.
I'm not sure that this is true, because the difficulty will be set for the sum of the machines. So the traffic will be less.

But, the thing the sellers need to remember is that bitcoin goes up in jumps, not steadily. The difficulty on the other hand rises between expoential and linear. You can't justify raising the price because bitcoin value goes up. Difficulty already corrects for that by continually decreasing the amount of bitcoins any given miner can make.

I've finally joined the TH club!  I just received two 60GH BFL Singles today to add to my hodge-podge of ASIC miners.  But now I have somewhat of a newbie question that I'm embarrassed to ask.

When you have multiple devices on one worker... dozens of USB sticks or several Singles... should difficulty be set to the sum of that workers GH or what each device in that worker group contributes?  Example, I have three 60GH Singles as one worker, should difficulty for that worker be set at 32GH+ or 128GH+?

Why doesnt big brands use their super computers to mine all crypto currencies instantly.

Because Supercomputers aren't set up to do bitcoin type processing. basically the ASIC miners we have are the supercomputers for bitcoins. Bitcoin mining in general is too risky for mainstream businesses to involve themselves in.

The difficulty should be set to the value for 180GH. But if you set it low, the pool will just up it anyway.
373  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will BFL Jalapeno give me any profit? on: December 05, 2013, 07:52:55 PM
Profit is a relative term. Anyone who expects to break even in terms of months is deceiving themselves. Don't bother. On the other hand over the course of your lifetime, or even a year or two, you will most likely make a profit.

Hi everybody - I have not forsaken you!  I have indeed been very busy growing the mine and hiring/training additional team members.

I have *finally* got a new merchant account for CC processing!

Very soon I will open sales for the following:
-old style V1 H-boards
-new style V2.2 H-boards
-dodgy trouble cards, EOL's, noisy, etc.
-Limited Edition megabigpower.com Red Furies (not really for serious miners, more of a learning thing)

Soon means hopefully this week, but I'm travelling.  Turn around on V1 H-boards might be just a few days longer - we have to order those special.

Best,
Dave

And all the World (well, USA) rejoiced!

One question:

Under "Payout History", my Total is 0.14; however, if you add all Amounts paid, it's 0.13. So, my question is, has anyone noticed it? Do your Total match Amounts paid?

I suspect that it is just a rounding error induced by only using 2 decimal places.

eleuthria

you would actually prefer that we don't let our balances build up?

or you just don't want to process the transaction volume of people using their pool account to make purchases?

still wondering about this

I believe he's stated before that it's in everyone's best interest to keep the BTC in their wallets and out of the pool.  Less of a target for would be hackers, and if a hacker would get in, less losses for all involved.

M

Of course, how much is "a lot" is a relative term. I'd think that if everyone took the lowest amount out as often as possible the traffic would be overwelming. But, I'm not in a position to know.
380  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1400 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: November 30, 2013, 10:05:25 PM
Does having a faster internet connection result in higher shares submitted? I just upgraded my internet from 6MBps down/1MBps up to 15MBps down/10MBps up. My shares have gone up significantly.

Before I was submitting around 240,000 and now I'm submitting 300,000 and no less than 290,000 per shift!

So does it make a difference or was something wrong with my old internet?

It would depend on your difficulty. If your difficulty was 1 or 2 you would use more bandwidth than if it was say 10. But even at diff 1 with the Stratum protocol the bandwidth shouldn't be significant.
