Whilst i agree, https links are better then http ones, this is just a site which provides content, its not like a banking site for users to log into their bank accounts.
Even w access http traffic for a malicious user to sniff the traffic of the victim they would have to be on the same network as the victim int he first place, unless they have direct access to the server.
The best way as you say would to rectifiy this would be on the server side to set up a redirect from port 80 to 443 (which hopefully makes use of a cert) but this is up to the webmaster at the end of the day.
