3601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Man who lost 7500 bitcoin in a landfill asks gov't he wants to dig it up on: February 03, 2022, 03:25:54 PM
If someone greedy enough for money, hed found it already and never told James about it. Taking it all. 7500 BTC is just heck of riches, a person who knows the landfill by the back of his hand could find it easy as its been logged all the time. Dead bodies are even exhumed precisely where if they just knew the timeline.

If James only kept the private key he wouldn't be digging garbages.
Excellent point!
Would of gave it atleast a couple of merits if there were any available. Hopefully somebody else does.

I seriously doubt that the data will still be there to be retrieved, because under ideal conditions, hard drives are predicted to be able to retain their data for 9 to 20 years. So I should say... a landfill are less than ideal conditions and his hard drive has been there for almost 8 years now.

We have not even consider that corrosive fluids will hasten the deterioration of the physical disc and also rust and the pressure that was placed on this hard drive with material that was placed on top of it.   Roll Eyes

I cannot agree with you here.
First, the hdd is not operational so the life is much longer than only 9-20 years.
Second, the important thing here is the data stored on the platters, the condition of the platters is crucial not the drive itself.
Third, the HDD cast body is from Aluminum Alloy A380, used in the aviation, hard and corrosive resistant, the same valid for the top cover, rust free and reinforced plate and the rubber gasket on the plate has more than 10 years of life.

There is a small ventilation hole on the top cover with filters, so the HDD can "breath" when the air pressure changes like on higher altitudes but even if there's corrosive fluid leaking into the drive which is highly unlikely, the platters are made of aluminum or ceramics covered with magnetic "dust" which is coated with extra layer of carbon.

There are probably mechanical damages from the transportation to the final point, but since the drive was not in operation the heads probably hit only at one specific spot on the platters, creating physical damage.

I assume the guy threw his whole computer with the mounted HDD inside, if that is the case then the chances to recover the hdd are much higher.

If I was him I would Dig!
Also was thinking since it was 10 years ago, ssd drives were in existence then so it might be one of those that have their data collected on the drive differently and I think last longer and in harsher conditions than one with moving parts.
If he had said what kind of drive it was (brand, type, year made) then it would of been more helpful in determining if it could be still salvageable.
Maybe in the countless other sources of this very same story he did but I only referenced the two I found the most recent even if a year old.
The hard drives in those army-grade laptops (tough books) which are used by the military and police officers should have drives that are more resistant to the elements or even a bullet & electrofrequencies.

^^
Yes it opens up fine, if you are signed in.
It should direct you to the 4-3-free page immediately where you have to click nfl superbowl promotion to choose your selections to enter.
There are 15 multiple choice questions to answer so to be eligible for entry.
I know people on the Sportbet.io Ann thread were mentioning about seeing the bet required sign in red on the 4-3-free splash image before clicking.
But if you have had wagered atleast $10 before the requirement was put on you should be fine.
I am certain it means for the life-time on each account. So if you had done a bet when you account was created you should be able to enter without any issues.
Only ones who should encounter any problems would be the ones who had just created their accounts without wagering a thing in the life-time of their accounts.

I liked "Football Team" better. "Commanders" being losers will be cringy.
As soon as I seen that name I automatically yelled..
"Cobbbrrrraaaaalalalallalaaa!" Grin
Who came up with this name for a team?
As we all know... There can only be one... commander in a squadron.

3605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: AFCON - Semi Finals. on: February 03, 2022, 12:36:05 PM
Senegal have defeated Burkina Faso by a decent score and started waiting for their opponent in the final stage. And the remaining game of the semi finals is between Cameroon and Egypt tonight. Bookmakers are favouring Cameroon to win and advance to the final stage. But even Cameroon have an odd which is more than 2. I feel like that we will watch a really tough game here and Egypt won't give up until the last moment. They haven't come to this level by surprise. They really earned it by eliminating serious opponents in the previous rounds. So I think that they deserve the final as much as Cameroon.

The main reason why bookmakers consider the Cameroon team as a favorite is that Cameroon is very good as a team. They try to play well as a team. This is why their performance is good. The Egyptian team, on the other hand, is dependent on only one player. They are heavily dependent on  Mohammed Salah. So if Salah can't play well then Egypt's chances of winning are reduced. My guess is that Cameroon will win today's match. Cameroon will meet Senegal in the final.
Also bookmakers usually put a slight favor for the home side since they have home field advantage. If they are allowing supporters into the stadium at full capacity I can see this advantage being on the side of the home team Cameroon.
The Senegal match yesterday was good for Mane as he scored though it was late in the match at the 60' or later mark but he did indeed score and it was over 2.75x prematch for him to do it.
I currently see Salah in this match coming up later on today to be at 3.30x which is quite high. Someone was saying they see similar odds for both teams to score. So the bookies aren't expecting many goals in this one.
But it was the same for the match yesterday as well.
3606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Man who lost 7500 bitcoin in a landfill asks gov't he wants to dig it up on: February 03, 2022, 12:27:41 PM
Everyone who is into bitcoin has heard this story before.
A guy cloned his hard drive and threw away the wrong drive in the trash and knows it was in a landfill site. Think they made a episode on the US sitcom series Big Bang Theory out of it.
But the story didn't end there as the person wants to have permission to excavate the site looking for this hard drive with over $275 million worth at today's price of bitcoin.

"A man from the Welsh city of Newport has offered his city council a 25% cut of his 7,500 bitcoins if it allows him to excavate the landfill where he threw away a hard drive containing the fortune in 2013."
source: https://www.businessinsider.com/man-offers-council-70-million-dig-up-bitcoin-hard-drive-2021-1

He is willing to give the city of Newport in the UK a cut of the bitcoin at a sum of $70 million so to be able to do this with approval of their local government.
This story has been run all around the globe at this point and has alot of people scratching their heads as to why he would need permission to rummage around a landfill site in garbage. Alot of countries allow those who want to go around their local trash site looking for pop cans for recycling or whatever they want to bring out of it. Since it is just garbage there.
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/15/uk-man-makes-last-ditch-effort-to-recover-lost-bitcoin-hard-drive.html

Call it the green initiate if you want but there are many who scavenge around in trash looking for those gems.
As they say: "One man's trash is another man's treasure!"

Went with MiBR this round against Complexity from what I remember of them early on in the tournament over the weekend they won and being the massive underdogs so will go with them here.
Have the favorites winning the remainder of the day in the Blast premier series.

3609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Celebrities Embracing bitcoin because of Divorce? on: February 02, 2022, 11:40:24 PM
Such a weird topic but I can't deny that some people may have done it or in the process of doing so. The problem with these celebrities is that most of them started late. I mean it's probably harder to hide your fiat to crypto transactions now since KYC is already a norm among exchanges.
The only ones which I can think of at the moment who are very well-known and started early were Akon and Paris Hilton.
Akon did with establishing he will be building a bitcoin city and Hilton I think she bought a bunch of Lealana coins and apparently knows ethereum founder Vitalik and the other founder.
This article came up after doing a quick search.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/26/paris-hilton-has-invested-in-crypto-since-2016-heres-why-shes-betting-big-on-nfts-and-the-metaverse.html
Think she recently got married but I doubt even if she did get divorced her current husband would  be after her other riches than her bitcoin and crypto holdings.

Superbowl ticket prices are very insane as one article I was reading said just one seat could get you a box seat at dodgers stadium for all 81 games.
That is how much these are selling for and well... It is in Los Angles so they can price them at these celebrity prices and people will still buy them just for the half-time show.

Here is a screenshot of another article describing how much they are pricing them at:

Certainly there is some significant functional science based explanation for it such as those projects which put bitcoin nodes into space.

With yesterday being the lunar new year for those who believe in astrological symbolism it makes for a nice story to tell your grand children this time of the year.
Also it is a nice way of putting -
Bitcoin to the Moon!

For now, i'm leaning on the Bengals, I still think the Rams are the better team but at the same time I feel like they got lucky against the 49ers and maybe include a prop bet on the interceptions as all QBs got an interception yesterday.
I am liking the Bengals chances more and more now. Burrows is hard to bet against as I seen some stat right after their Kansas City match that he was 7-0 in post season including his NCAA record which is fairly amazing to deny.
And why not go with them this year even if it is in LA. After all..
It is the year of the Tiger! Wink

The Pinnacle winter series had some matches over the weekend and those were interesting to see. After these we will have the Grand Semi-Finals starting.
I like K23 to win as well and will put them in with another matchup later in the day.

I wonder if Astralis can dominate this Blast series overall.   BO1 favors the underdog more then a normal 3 map match up but they seem strong enough in any case, not really the underdog especially.  They are about to beat Navi unless they mess up things especially or Navi pulls a rabbit out of the hat.  mibr should be the loser in whichever match follows.
I put Liquid and Faze down as a multibet for 3x odds on the basis they both have a good chance of winning outright.
Yeah the underdogs seem to winning their matches. The first day I put in a parlay for G2 and Big to win.
G2 won their map but NIP who were team with odds over 3.10x beat Big. B01 series seem to be in favor of those teams who get off on the right foot early on.
MiBR were heavy underdogs going against NaVI as I seem their odds at 4.00x but they beat them anyways.
OG look to be the team to beat this tournament winning every match so far.
3616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: January 29, 2022, 11:11:19 PM
Well since I bet almost every day here I guess the promo is available to me,,, and I can enter and see my predictions so I guess it works for me? $10 right now is only something like 0.25 mbtc so it is not a big problem, but they should maybe just make the promo disappear until you meet requirements so as to not cause confusion?
Like completely disapear if your account is new? Nah I think its better to be up there and its kinda appealing especially to new accounts. Bet atleast $10 and receive up to $50 in free bets, that a great promotions for sure but if you remove it from accounts that isnt eligible for the promotions than some new guy wont even know that about this promotion
Completely agree with arallmuus here. Why make a completely free offer gone if active on your account. Then it shouldn't be a problem.
I think they put this meet these requirements rule in the terms because there might have been a large increase in new accounts created which were just entering into this promo and not wagering anything. So I can see why they would impose this.
That is alot of upkeep just to cull these accounts once seen as inactive and then dumped.
3617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: January 29, 2022, 12:31:34 PM
Another AFCON promotion under specials for today with Cameroon to win and both to score @5.20x looks too good to pass up.
https://sportsbet.io/sports/sportsbet-specials/daily-specials/africa-cup-of-nations/matches
The Senegal one hit that I was saying I took. So for this one you still have time as there are not really anything else to bet on with the EPL, La Liga and Serie A having nothing happening this weekend.

3619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kazakhstan cripping the bitcoin network on: January 28, 2022, 05:15:12 PM
New country harboring alot of the hashpower, from the majority of Chinese exporting their mining equipment there, same tactics.

Is it? When the internet was down, all that lot of hash power... was not missing...
Dependent on the pools they were mining too.
You can check the CN pools that their customers were having them mine too.
They are hosting the Chinese equipment after all so the pool's hashpower could be directed to those top of the chart mining pools.
Or just maybe the Chinese mining companies got smart and distributed their hashpower to another pool.
Who the **** knows except for them.
Rule No.1: Never underestimate of what they can do to what you know. As with anything in life. Wink
3620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kazakhstan cripping the bitcoin network on: January 28, 2022, 03:00:24 PM
This is not a good sign to have the total hashpower centralized like this.
I was expecting you know better than this.
The Kazakhstan "internet is down" business was shown plenty of times - with actual data - that it's based on fake news. There was no significant hash rate drop, hence there's not much of concentration of hash power in that country.

Even if that FUD went overly successful, I think (hope?) that traders are not so dumb to be fooled by same FUD twice.
So the Kazakhstan FUD is no different than the China FUD which had been going on for years. China banning bitcoin then the price drops until it didn't.

New country harboring alot of the hashpower, from the majority of Chinese exporting their mining equipment there, same tactics.
