3601  Other / Meta / Re: Any indicators to show that someone is banned? on: March 14, 2018, 03:16:08 PM
I think their rank should turn to Banned or something if not shown to everyone then at least Staff. There's a banned notice available to staff on people's profiles but it being under their username as well would be helpful. Sometimes I go through certain threads that have been abused by copy and paste bots en mass like the Vietnamese one looking for accounts that have been missed and it's tedious just to click on their profiles just to see they've already been banned. Has theymos given a reason why he doesn't want this info public?
3602  Other / Meta / Re: [List] Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0 on: March 14, 2018, 03:10:20 PM
Please check merit summary of these two users:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=552858

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=661293

They have given merits to same members. Like check merits given on this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2932126.msg30324092#msg30324092

Lots of accounts may be involved.

You seem to be giving merit to the same group of users as well:

3603  Economy / Reputation / Re: How to remove negative trust? (from Hilariousandco) on: March 14, 2018, 02:47:24 PM
Avatar was online for few hours. I have copied from legendary member Jeremycoin. He was using it until yesterday. No red trust is given to him even after I have pointed this out.

So you are guilty of what Hilariousandco tagged you for.  Who did Jeremycoin copy the avatar from?  I didn't get to see it.

It's not the end of the world.  You can still make a good reputation here for yourself and eventually someone will trust you into a signature campaign.

Why not send Hilariousandco a PM in a year or so?  He might reconsider.

Hi Vod,

Thanks for another comment in my thread.

I am not guilty and I don't know why Hilariousandco interpreted my avatar as an advert to trade merits.

Avatar says I will give "merits 4 smerits".

I'm not sure how that could be misinterpreted. It was literally an advert to try trade merits. Stop trying to squirm out of taking responsibility for what you were attempting to do which was to exchange merits. And then there's the copy and pasting which you admitted to and you adding attribution once caught doesn't magically make it ok.
3604  Other / Meta / Re: Personal Identity - Message to Theymos on: March 14, 2018, 02:22:28 PM

1. Forcing people to do something is not the only way you can commit crime.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything.

The purpouse for this thread is to make Theymos aware about this type of behaviour and if he agrees with it taking place on the platform.

Theymos probably doesn't agree with it in the same way he doesn't agree with scamming but people are in charge of their own money and affairs here.

Because, if this becomes the norm and personal identity starts flying all over the place...there will be personal identity theft at some point, and people will start looking for someone to blame.

The people to blame will be those who sent their details to some random person over the internet.
3605  Other / Meta / Re: Merits for Constructive Opinion on: March 14, 2018, 01:43:54 PM
Hi folks! I am certain that my opinions through my posts are indeed constructive and viable to some members. I am stuck at Junior Member rank. I'm still posting enough to add it to my activity but it seems I'm never gonna rank up. Could anyone help me rank up? I'm certainly not begging but I want to share more important notes and points regarding cryptocurrency usage but it seems I will have to reduce the value of my posts because of these. Can anyone share their merits? For the future of sharing to newbies also? Thank you guys.

This isn't the way to go about getting merit. You've been here barely two months so what makes you think you will never get merit? You will have 1.4 years before you would reach Hero so you don't think you can achieve sufficient merit in that time? Keep participating constructively and you should start to receive sufficient merit. If you don't after a few months then maybe come back to this thread but asking for merit is just going to be counter productive.
3606  Other / Meta / Re: Multiple Account Holders with Merit on: March 14, 2018, 01:39:45 PM

For someone who runs multiple accounts its easy enough for them to just log into another account and pass over the merit to a low activity user to rank them up?

So it will only affect new single account users if that makes sense?

Yes, users with multiple accounts can benefit by trading merit between themselves but they'll soon run out. Trading merit is also a way people can spot alts easily and if found their accounts will likely receive negative feedback thus ruining them all. For most it's probably not worth the risk but for those that try there are people who will punish this behaviour.

What accounts do you believe you spotted?
3607  Other / Meta / Re: Personal Identity - Message to Theymos on: March 14, 2018, 01:36:25 PM
Btw, when i asked him if he thinked about the legal aspects of this, he replied ''I didn't forced anybody to join'' or something along this unintelligent line of thought

Well he's right. Campaigns can state whatever terms they want but it's up to the individual whether they want to accept them and participate. If you're not comfortable with the terms then don't join. It's not just companies that need to abide by KYC laws either. There are usually laws dictating certain rules around private trades etc especially if they're above a certain amount which will often require ID etc. It's only a matter of time before ICOs start to be regulated and need to start abiding by certain laws like KYC as well.

I just want to know your opinion on this matter, in case someone decides to join his campaigns and in case this ends up in an identity theft.

Don't give out this info unless you trust the user or organisation.
3608  Economy / Reputation / Re: Quickseller receives $200,000, decides not to do the work, keeps the money on: March 13, 2018, 10:41:23 AM
I remember a while back that BadBear told me he used to be positive QS was TradeFortress, but then over time didn't believe it anymore. I wonder if there was any IP evidence tying them together somehow? I  think it's probably more likely QS bought that account than them being truly the same person but I guess you never know. If I recall correctly QS had thread trying to buy Donator/ VIP accounts at one point.

This is also possible:

also, it's conceivable (perhaps unlikely) that QS claimed to have received funds but never actually did. we don't have evidence that he posted the address in question. he could have done this as a scare tactic. however, this doesn't explain the involvement of the TF account.

Maybe TF just sent money to himself and gave QS an address to post publicly.
3609  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Raise merit requirements at the lower and highest ranks (@theymos) on: March 13, 2018, 10:23:11 AM
Starting with 17 merits awarded to some of my old Jr. Member posts by people who remember them, I reached the Hero threshold of 500 merits within 27 days, 8 hours, 16 minutes, 22 seconds of active posting.

But you will be the glaring exception here. In fact, you're probably one in ten thousand or something. I can't really think of another user here who made such an impact in such a short time and for users like you the merit system will work as intended. Great posters will have no issue issue in rising through the ranks so I don't think it should be made more difficult, though the numbers could be adjusted slightly I guess but we'll have to see how things go. Poor posters will get nowhere unless they abuse the merit system but I do have some sympathy with average or even 'good' posters as they could take quite some time to get the merit points they need or deserve. It takes 4.5 months to become a Full Member and nearly one and a half years to become a Hero so lets see how people get on over time because it's certainly too early to say right now.

3610  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie, Jr Members, Members suffering from merit-phobia: Explanations and Advice on: March 13, 2018, 09:44:43 AM

6. Constantly uses unnecessary salutations "Dear Manager, Respected Manager, or my favorite Lauda Sir ".
7. Profusely apologises after every sentence. "Sorry if I am wrong", "Sorry again if i hurt someone". All of this with accompanied by the constant disebowelment of English is enough to irritate the hell out of most normal people.

This has always really annoyed me because it just comes across as insincere and it usually comes with some sort of begging or pleading when they've done something wrong. Please sir hilarious unban me ten accounts sir. I won't do it again sir. Please sir.

This constant trend to use salutations  (Sir, Dear, Respected) is also a cultural difference. To you, it maybe normal to show respect to someone in a position of power over you, but as far as netiquette and western work culture is concerned, this is considered sycophancy/ ass-kissing. This is considered the hallmark of an incapable, scheming individual and not of respect. So avoid this like a plague. Instead, address people with a normal Mr./ Miss

Well put. You don't need to call people Mr or Miss either. Just call people by their username.

3. But if the disdain takes the form of blatant name-calling and racial overtones (not undertones), I believe it is an explicit form of RACISM; eg. 3rd world monkeys, pajeet, etc.

This is when it goes too far and people start to show their true colours. Shitposting is annoying but it's unnecessary to start getting derogatory in racial terms.
3611  Other / Meta / Re: Here is the quality of posts after merit system on: March 10, 2018, 09:47:41 PM
What I am trying to implement into campaigns I manage is users must have merits to join. I currently am allowing users without merits to join(partially), but have started paying higher rates to users with merits. Eventually I will make it a requirement to have merits in order to join campaigns I manage. I would also like to go as far as you must earn merits each week to stay in a campaign.

If all managers do something like I mentioned above, then eventually these shit accounts are phased out and not making any money anymore rendering their accounts useless. With the merit system being fairly new, I can't go full fledged merit crazy on everyone yet. Gotta give ppl a little time to earn some.

Sadly this just often leads to more abuse as we have already seen with a group of people on one of your campaigns just trading merit between themselves to both get on to your campaign and get the bonuses. Whatever systems we put in place people will just try find ways round it if they can and those with multiple accounts can often do so quite easily (and the ones that don't are often just engaging in merit for merit trades). I still think the only way we're going to combat abuse is to just remove signatures altogether and make people pay a hefty sum to get one. Really can't see many people shelling out $500+ on more than their one or two accounts.

until now it is a disaster for me, I have only made 20 points today.
Unfortunately, I will lose my first position

It was a tough week, though most didn't do much better. I've just moved into first but not by much. I was stiffed out of a correct score by Palace getting a goal in injury time. Getting even closer at the top with second and third places tied :

1   hilarious   50   2580
2   Cicciobtc   20   2550
2   StephenCurry333   70   2550
3   LFC_Bitcoin   70   2460
3   Supremo1   20   2460

Yeah, a few. Got some Tubular shadows in gold and a couple different colours of Alpabounce, plus a pair of Busenitz. I'll get around to updating this thread soon as half in the op have been sold. I've got a load of Nike Dunks I want to get rid of as well.

3614  Other / Meta / Re: Here is the quality of posts after merit system on: March 10, 2018, 05:07:11 PM
They haven't got any merit for those posts you quoted. The merit system is there so those sorts of users get nowhere with their hollow ones liners and won't progress through the ranks without putting the effort in. Not sure what point you're trying to make here though unless you think the merit system is magically going to make everyone write a thesis for every posts which obviously isn't going to happen.
3615  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: March 10, 2018, 01:13:00 PM
Not liking this weeks fixtures. Gone for loads of draws as lots of games are too close to call but got a feeling I'll either do really well or complete shit (and more likely the latter). Had the Man U Liverpool game at 1-1 but Manchester are already 2-0 up leading up to half time.

Less than 48 hours before week 30 starts. Judging by the games I am optimistic this week many of the participants will surpass 100 points, the games looks like they are easy to predict but in the end I know we are in the Premier League where surprises happen exactly when you do not expect it. This post is also a reminder to not forget to put your predictions.

God damn, don’t remind people, there’s always a chance one of the top 3 or 4 might forget to submit their predictions & that’d help Grin

The best you could hope for from us is a very bad week with next to zero points  Grin.

3616  Other / Meta / Re: Forum account needs to be KYC on: March 10, 2018, 01:00:00 PM
This isn't going to happen for numerous reasons and if you did a search you would see people have already suggested this. It would be far easier just to remove signatures and problem solved and that's likely what will happen if the merit system doesn't curb this sort of behaviour.
3617  Other / Meta / Re: Why is it so hard to earn merits?? on: March 10, 2018, 12:56:10 PM
It should be hard to earn merits. If it wasn't it would defeat the purpose of it.

EmbarrassedLook I have been on here long enough to know how certain things work.

Two months?

Another question??? Who the heck determines what good content is. I provide a lot of insight and I have written some good post here but I never get a merit.

The people with merit to give. If they spot a post they like for whatever reason they may reward it. Keep posting quality content and the chances of this increase.

My question is why is it so hard to earn merits on bitcointalk.org. Sounds pretty counter-intuitive to me... Please help someone!!    Huh

How is system that is meant to reward quality content over trash counter-intuitive? Something needed to be done about people signing up here with dozens to hundreds of accounts just to spam with and this is the solution to that.
3618  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is negative trust working? on: March 10, 2018, 11:18:34 AM
Which campaigns exactly? This isn't really a forum issue either as there's no rules on what users campaigns can or cannot accept, but if they're a campaign that are just accepting anyone and an unlimited amount of users without checking the quality of their content they should face repercussions.
3619  Other / Meta / Re: Banned for nothing , please Help me i lost all. on: March 08, 2018, 08:58:38 AM
why second account was banned permamently too ?

You were copy and pasting on both of them so they're both banned.

Sad to hear that, just curious how many accounts you have?
Can you list them here so people can see that you are not breaking the rules with the other ones and maybe give those 2 back?

Nice try  Grin.

Aside from the bounty and airdrops, what's the upside of having multiple accounts?

Why copy and paste on one when you can do it on two and double your money.
3620  Other / Meta / Re: technically it became impossible for me to ever become Sr. or even ful member? on: March 07, 2018, 04:48:55 PM
Thanks to merit system...i have lost all hopes now to rank up any way close to Sr.Member or even Full member ever...i think the users like me are in huge disadvantage now...because i dont think many users care about giving merit to anyone...i think if givers are 10 and recievers are thousands or even more in the ratio..even if some day i get lucky and some one give me merit...it will take many decades to reach Sr.Member like that...

It's not technically impossible but has probably become very difficult for you, but you seem to be missing the point of the activity system as it was created to prevent people exactly like you from just making lazy posts over x amount of time just to rank up. It's clear that you are not proficient in English so I would consider sticking to your local language board as you will probably have a much better chance of expressing/articulating yourself and getting merit there.

Also the fact that a user can give only half the merit he recieved and all those concepts i think are huge disadvantage for a user like me...
I know this issue has been raised many times and i shared my feeling which is this is really unfair for all the users like me

This is to stop abuse. If it didn't decay in half people could just pass it on forever and freely trade it between accounts.
