3621  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you gamble because you don't have sufficient money? on: July 22, 2023, 08:11:06 PM
I was in argument with someone. His view is that people who gamble are those that what they have is not sufficient for them and so they try to make more money from gambling. He said if you have sufficient money to take care of your needs that you won't think of gambling. He made reference to some rich people, who don't gamble because they have sufficient money to even gift to charity but that those rich who still gamble are only addicted to it not just because of the money. Therefore, that the percentage of the rich gambling is very small compared to those in middle class and lower class.

So my question is, is the percentage of the rich gambling lower than the middle and lower class?

I think this question should be addressed to sociologists (what do people's opinions matter without concrete facts?), but even their research will be relevant only in relation to those countries and conditions in which they were carried out. Different countries have different cultures and laws, so the percentage of gamblers can vary greatly from this - for example, gambling can be severely prohibited in a country, but as we know, the elite always have access to forbidden pleasures, so there will be a completely different ratio than in those countries where gambling is available to everyone.

It turns out that when Guardiola said a few months ago that he would let Silva go to Barcelona without any problems (since they respect the player’s desire, etc.), was a lie and a bluff? Looks like the bluff failed and now they have to double his salary LOL. I hope other City players will be equally ambitious and City's salary fund will simply burst  Grin

First of all, I think selling Bernardo Silva is probably not the best idea for Manchester City. I believe when a player has good chemistry with the squad, he should not be replaced with anyone else. He is also only 28 years of age. This is basically the prime years of his career. So I don’t think it is actually going to make sense for Manchester City to sell him right now.

I also think that £87 million is probably a little less for a player like him. This is a time when any player who even has a little bit of potential goals for more than a hundred million. So I don’t think reaching around a hundred is actually a bad idea. But putting 100 million tag on a player also means that it is going to be very hard for other clubs to get him. And so I guess Manchester City are actually willing to sell him if they get the price that they want. What do you guys think?

What is there to think about if they are willing to DOUBLE his salary just to keep him in the City and extend the contract.
But I wrote about something else - I remember exactly that when this option of Silva's transfer to Barcelona initially arose, Guardiola spun a lot of beautiful words about the fact that City do not hold anyone by force and respect the wishes of the players, etc. And it turns out that it was not true in the sense that they really need Silva, and beautiful words were just an attempt to "solve" the issue not by increasing wages, but by introducing into Silva's head the idea that City doesn't need him that much.
3623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: July 22, 2023, 07:52:19 PM
Considering that in Saudi Arabia the transfer window closes very late relative to Europe (only Portugal has a later transfer window closing date - September 22) - September 20, it can be assumed that many players who could not get offers that suit them will go there. Therefore, this list can really be seriously replenished towards the end of the transfer window.

Yes and also, it seems that it is not something new nor is it something strange anymore about the many players who will play in the Saudi Professional League next season. Big pay without a hard target to win the title, so it looks like it will be a comfortable task to undertake to play in the Saudi Professional League. But yes, even though it is rumored that there will be many players who will join, the reality is that there are still some players who reject it and still choose to play for clubs that play in Europe.

Everyone has different preferences (for example, Kane has been in Tottenham for years, hahaha), but in order for the Saudi League to be a huge competition to Europe, it is not necessary that all or even a significant part of the players go there. It is enough that some players go there, plus every (good) player understands that such an option is available to him.

3625  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: July 22, 2023, 12:28:53 PM
Now that we entered the world of multi-country hosting, the qualifying phase for the rest of the teams in the hosting federation might have a tougher time.

But on the other hand, for example in the 2026 World Cup, the 3 strongest teams of CONCACAF are already qualified (USA, Canada, and Mexico), so that means that this might be a good opportunity for the Central American and Caribbean teams to qualify. Usually CONCACAF has three direct slots plus two play-off slots, but now because of the extra slots they have 6 direct slots so we will probably see more of the Central American and Caribbeans teams!

Interestingly, they also removed the hosting slots:

However, in a change of format from previous World Cups, there would be no dedicated host country slot, with the slots of automatically qualifying host countries now taken from the quota of its confederation.

It turns out that theoretically we can see 8 teams from the CONCACAF zone at the World Cup 2026. Cool! Although I strongly doubt that such teams as El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras or Curosau (in the CONCACAF rankings they are just in the region of 6-8 places) are able to win the intercontinental playoffs. I think the qualification of any of these teams to the final part of the World Cup will be a sensation.

Debt forgiveness encourages irresponsibility. I don't understand how you can like this idea, given that it comes at the expense of someone. Such "good" intentions usually lead to dire consequences. I can imagine how angry people will be who earned their education with their sweat and blood when they find out that someone got it at their expense.

A lot of business owners are complaining that nowadays it is extremely hard to get American citizens for blue collar jobs, because the government incentivizes welfare rats over hard working people. Dems are to be blamed, but GOP are not saints either. Trump printed money like crazy and distributed among the citizens when COVID lockdowns were in place. And I believe that along with higher prices of gasoline, this was one of the reasons why the retail inflation in the United States went up by quite a bit in the recent past.

I live in a 3rd world country and inflation here is much worse than in the US. But inflation is a global problem, as are the consequences of covid. To some extent, these are inevitable problems like natural disasters that we have little control over (although this sounds strange regarding finance/inflation). But when politicians oppress real workers and redistribute wealth in favor of parasites, this is already the point where the patience of most people can burst.

Manchester City are working on a contract extension for Bernardo Silva recently. They are offering 300k pounds per week which is double the amount he is earning weekly now. If Bernardo Silva's target is not to have a new adventure after the end of his contract then I wouldn't expect him to reject this huge increase. He is definitely an important member of the squad now. Guardiola wouldn't like to lose a very skilled player like him. His contract is ending in 2 years for now.

Some rumour is reported like Manchester City have received an offer for Silva like 35 million pounds + one player from a top team in Europe. However Manchester City are said to have put a price tag of 87 million pounds for him.

It turns out that when Guardiola said a few months ago that he would let Silva go to Barcelona without any problems (since they respect the player’s desire, etc.), was a lie and a bluff? Cryptocurrencies and the Internet really make it possible to avoid crazy laws, but unfortunately every year we see that regulation is increasing here and there. Such monstrous taxes are a good reminder to all crypto enthusiasts of what we are fighting against and what will happen to us if we lose.
Cryptocurrency and crypto-based online gambling is one strong evidence of the rapid development of the internet and technology.
But some countries take advantage of this situation to be able to make money by imposing large taxes.
Although not all countries, but I'm sure that someday there will be tax regulations that don't make sense in each country with policies that might underlie gambling permits and the use of cryptocurrency.

If gambling is completely decentralized - for example, the entire lottery will be in a smart contract that will be executed in a decentralized environment, then regulators will have a big problem getting to the lucky winners to tax them. And I think that the generation that participates in lotteries where the state takes 80-90% of the money for itself will end very quickly.
3630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: $1,080 Billion powerball lotto winner in the USA on: July 21, 2023, 11:06:32 PM
50% of the winnings are taken by the state  Grin I laugh at this scam every year. If I'm not mistaken, the organizers of the lottery pay significant taxes initially + the winner pays more than half of the taxes, so in total, the state takes 80-90% of the entire prize pool (I don't remember the exact amount). If this is not a scam, then what is it?
There are some people who are lucky by winning the jackpot on the lottery bet and not all of them are taxed excessively by the state which reaches 50%.
Maybe some countries implement a tax system for every gambler who wins big, but only 10% to 20%, not 50% because if touch half the winnings it's not a tax but more appropriate to call it extortion.
In my country there is no such tax system but the prohibition for gambling is set by law regulated, it's just that we as gamblers can still gamble online and secretly without worrying about being found out by the government when gambling on gambling sites crypto.

Cryptocurrencies and the Internet really make it possible to avoid crazy laws, but unfortunately every year we see that regulation is increasing here and there. Such monstrous taxes are a good reminder to all crypto enthusiasts of what we are fighting against and what will happen to us if we lose.

Current rumor, Sadio Mané negotiation with Al Nassr and looks almost reach agreement deal for moving to Saudi Pro League teams and will play with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sadio Mane is only 31 years old. I think he should go to SPL after playing a few more seasons in Europe. Of course, if Al Nassr makes him an offer he can't refuse, he'll go to SPL too. However, Ronaldo transferred to this league at the age of 37 and Benzema at the age of 35. So, for Sadio Mane, SPL may be a bit of an early choice. I'm sure there are many teams in Europe where he could get a contract. I'm also sure he can complete his contract at Bayern Munich if he agrees to remain a substitute. He will make a difficult choice in terms of his career. If he goes next to Ronaldo, he will make good money and play the starting 11 every game, but he will complete his football career to a large extent.

I don't think you can compare Mane with Ronaldo and Benzema. These are brands of completely different levels. Now Mane's career has not gone in the best way and it is quite possible that the chance that is now (to go to Saudi Arabia) will not be possible later. With the trend we are seeing now, in a year it will be very easy for players to leave for Saudi Arabia - this will increase competition there and lower wages.

Hi all! I'm new to kicktipp (actually haven't even signed up yet) so I'll figure out the platform first and then I'll enter the pool.

Quote
2 points for the correct tendency (example: predicted 3-0 - result 1-0)
3 points for the correct goal difference (example: predicted 2-0 or 1-1 - result 3-1 or 3-3)
4 points for the correct result (example: predicted 3-0 - result 3-0)
bonus picks: 4 points per correct bonus pick*
*the bouns picks have to be done before the start of the season

What is a bonus pick? I didn't participate last year and don't know what it is. I'm guessing it's about who will take the title, but the terms say "picks", not a pick, so I'm guessing it's something more extensive.

I just saw a news on youtube that someone won the $1,080 Billion jackpot prize on the Powerball lotto in the US. In the video I watched, someone claims that she was the winner, but as of now, there is still no official announcement from the lottery organization. also, the store where the winning ticket was bought will receive a $1 Million bonus from the organization.

anyway, it still really surprises me that if the winner decides to take the prize in one lump sum, they will only get half of the total price because of the taxes that will be taken out.

here's the video I saw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LINxj6C-00c

A very strange rumor. Mbappe already earns over 100 million a year, which means that in order to interest him, you need to offer an amount significantly higher than this earnings and which would be able to compensate for the loss of a career/titles in Europe. I would believe it if it was a proposal for a couple of years, but even in this case, Mbappe would hardly have agreed.

Right and I think the interesting part of this article is not the rumor itself, but the fact that we here agree immediately that we have arrived in spheres where a player would immediately reject an offer because it is "only" one billion. Cheesy I remember the times when I was shocked that a player earned 200,000 a week. Then it was 300,000 a week and the numbers were going up gradually, with some new superstar breaking the record from last year so to say. But now the soccer world is upside down in terms of salaries. Think about those superstars who played in the 90s and who would now agree with us that Mbappe would be stupid to accept a billion when they still played at a time when the Euro was not even existing. Cheesy

Enjoy the read! It is a NYTimes article from 2001, stating that Zidane earned $5.08 million per year playing for Real Madrid. He would have been one of those guys making 200 million in Saudi Arabia per year.

Old news is always funny to read because the world is changing very fast and inflation is destroying the value of money. Although in football wage growth is not due to inflation (only partially due to it), but due to the fact that with the development of telecommunications, the audience of football games has grown significantly. Has it peaked or is there still room for growth? I think that there is still potential plus in conditions of high inflation, any long-term contract is nonsense and Mbappe should refuse.

Well, someone could argue that if the government can bail out banks and companies which were irresponsible with the money of their account of their clients, then bailing out people who just want to live a better life is not worse.
If bailing out people of their debts encourages irresponsibility, then saving companies from depression also creates irresponsible companies and CEOs, since they are not afraid of bankruptcy since they would be counting on the money of those who pay taxes.

Yes, it's true and the funny thing is that it really is. But the fact that injustice exists in one place does not mean that it should be transferred to all other places. If we do this, then in the end it will be beneficial (for everyone) to be parasites and not work honestly. All utopian ideas in practice turn into something terrible.
3638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: July 21, 2023, 01:36:57 PM
Maybe after they increase the number of teams in the next world cup in 2026 we can see more countries from Asia and Africa and these countries will have more chance to win the title for the first time, also I think Asian teams are trying hard to invest more of football and if this continues we can see these counties winning the title soon.

How would adding a Burkina Faso to the World Cup final stage affect the chances of the top teams? I don't think they will be a threat to anyone. Perhaps paradoxically, this will rather increase the chances of the top teams - they used to have chances to destroy each other in the early stages of the tournament (even in the group), but now they are more likely to get into the playoffs.
3639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will You Stop Gambling Even If You're Doing Great If This Happens To You on: July 21, 2023, 01:29:45 PM
I will sit down with my father and discuss this strategy....

I will tell him that I will do a fixed deposit or even an investment into some kind of investment option.. where I cannot touch the money that I inherited for 10+ years.... I will only take 90% of the profit or proceeds on this investment and 10% will be left to cover inflation.

He will then know that the inheritance will not end up in a casino and the money will be safe for the next 10 years. I do not have a gambling problem, so my parents will not have these requirements for my inheritance... if I inherit anything in the future.  Tongue

It sounds reasonable, but if I were your father, I would have thought that this scheme was invented just to evade the end of gambling - so there is still an addiction. I think the main desire of the father is for the heir to stop playing gambling and not that "the money is not lost", so I doubt that he will agree to this option.
3640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: July 21, 2023, 01:23:38 PM
It will be super funny if the current European champion, after missing the World Cup, also misses the European Championship itself  Grin
But for some reason it seems to me that even if they do not take one of the first two places in the group, they will get a ticket from the additional tournament in which they will 100% get - they have the bronze of the League of Nations, so they will have the highest rating among the rest of the losers.

Well, good that you bring this up with those alternative ways to qualify for the Euro 24, but I can tell you that I am not a fan of al these formats the FIFA and UEFA have created. Just to find out what the chances are for a team to qualify for the Euro or not, how many websites do you even have to visit these days and how many tournaments to follow? The League of Nations is stupid. Nobody values it unless a team is dependent on it to qualify for the Euro. But it has no meaning in terms of the results there. Just look at France, 5 points out of 6 games and 7 and 8 points behind Denmark and Croatia, respectively. England 3 points out of 6 games, not a single win in all those games and 7 points behind Hungary. What is the point of this stupid tournament? It is not because those teams are bad, it is because they give a shit about the League of Nations. I can't remember whether I ever watched a game of that tournament.

Yes, this is a garbage tournament and even its format is completely garbage - no one will look at a tournament stretched out over a couple of years. The bad news is that this tournament is not "isolated" but affects other important events like the Euro. And the ticket distribution format for the losers also causes great annoyance - to understand it, I studied Wikipedia for about 15 minutes and also read comments on other sites. I do not understand how it was possible to come up with this stupid format with three paths.
