How come when the markets went down brexit got the blame from remain voters, yet now it's on a year high we don't hear nothing from them?

I doubt you would like to hear the reasons for it:

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

3623  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Which country will be next to alight from the sinking EU ship? on: June 30, 2016, 04:16:29 AM

For the refugee crisis turkey is getting money and maybe visa freedom although the last is right now not possible (atlesst that is what german news are writing), because there were several political difficulties in turkey that prevents it.

And this played a big part in the NO vote - for example some Ford Transit factories were closed in the UK and relocated to Turkey to take advantage of Merkel's EU subsidy for businesses that relocated there.

People thought wow, Britain is a net contributor, so some of that subsidy money is ours, and it is being used to move jobs to Turkey to sort out Merkel's migrant mess. It tipped the vote in those areas like Southampton.

Turkey first tried to join the EU more than 40 years ago, and the free trade agreement is also very old. Frau Merkel wasn't yet in politics. I remember De Gaulle, a former french president. He vetoed twice the entry of the UK into the EU, and he also blocked Turkey. But that was a long time ago, at a time when there were leaders with some insight. Those days are gone.

im talking about the member negotiations for the EU that started around the year 2000.
Turkey tried to join the EEC since 1959 which didnt happened.

Btw. i just found out that Norway actually pays per capita as much as the UK does to the EU.
3624  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Which country will be next to alight from the sinking EU ship? on: June 29, 2016, 06:26:53 PM
^

The talks for turkey to join the EU started before Merkel was germam chancellor.

The funny part: Merkel actually prevented turkey joining the EU and ensured they would get only a privileged partnership when she got voted in as the german chancellor.

For the refugee crisis turkey is getting money and maybe visa freedom although the last is right now not possible (atlesst that is what german news are writing), because there were several political difficulties in turkey that prevents it.

( visa freedom is coupled to several things)

Interesting that merkel was always an enemy of an EU with turkey right?

3626  Economy / Economics / Re: Long term OIL on: June 28, 2016, 04:36:36 PM
With the recent developments of electric drives and batteries I don't know if oil investments are going to be as profitable as they were ... We are getting to a turning point, where solar energy is cheaper than fossil energies and where electricity storage is becoming really cheap (when compared with the previous decade).

Solar is still highly dependent on government subsidies to be competitive. The high up-front costs are prohibitive to many folks, as it will take many years for the system to pay itself off, and without tax credits, many folks wouldn't bother as it just increases the pay-off period. We know oil eventually has to go away, but that doesn't make it a bad investment for the next 20-30 years or longer. Oil just simply will not be disrupted quickly. Berkshire has investments in all sorts of energy sectors, including refining and electric utilities. I'm sure the stake in Phillips is the result of a very long examination and sound thesis, as is the investment in everything that company does.

Imho im not sure if this is true anymore atleast if you dont look at enviromental expenses.
I.e. in germany exist punitive tariffs for solar panels from china and i read if they wouldnt exist prices could be at half of what they are now: -50% is ridic.
(~5000-8000€ for a house full of solar panels and everything)

Edit

Punitive tariff is actually EU wide.
3627  Other / Politics & Society / Re: White Russia aka Belorussian beacon of civilisation? on: June 28, 2016, 04:10:03 PM
Belarus is developing to a 3rd world country right now.
I have some students from belarus and what picture they draw from there is just sad.

They have a dictatorship similiar to north korea just with better economy.
But through falling oil prices it seems a economic melt down started which is increased by bad economic infrastructure.

Well russia is much better overall in comparison but they too have rather large economic problems mainly because of the low oil price and the ukranian conflict + syria crisis which cost a lot of money.

3629  Other / Politics & Society / Re: War against Iran is (not) necessary because... on: June 28, 2016, 04:00:48 PM
Gotta say Iran is one of the very few Muslim countries I don't dislike. It is opposed to Saudi Arabia and other Wahhabist states and that's already a plus. The government is very oppressive but it seems the population is civilized and the cities / landscape marvelous to behold and experience. Might even visit Iran within a couple of years ... !

I'd agree with you. Unlike the GCC nations such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, Iran does not spend its petro-dollars to encourage radical Islamism in the third world nations (such as Pakistan and Bangladesh). They enforce the strict Islamic law inside Iran, but they don't bother about the other nations.

Its already been discussed that Iran does fund terrorism I'm not sure if they openly encourage radical Islam though but they do and have funded terrorism in the past.
And now with the new nuke deal I assume they will start funding more and more terrorists.

Apart from isolated incidents, there have been no proof to link the Iranian authorities to terrorism. On the other hand, the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world is the NATO and its allies (especially Turkey and the GCC). For example, the NATO is currently supporting the "moderate terrorists" against the secular regime of Bashar al Assad in Syria.

I'm sure the Iranians do all they can to cover up their funding of terrorists. But its still widely known that Hamas and Hezbollah have been openly funded by Iran as well as been supplied with weapons and ammo. If that's not funding terrorism then I don't know what is.

Iran only gives ideological support to Hamas and Hezbollah. If the Americans can support hardcore Islamist groups such as Al Nusra (Syrian version of Al Qaeda), Jaysh al Islam, and Ahrar al Sham, and provide them with advanced weaponry such as the TOW anti-tank missiles, what is wrong with Iran providing ideological support to Hezbollah?

Im pretty sure this guys ( iran and above posters, especially bryant.coleman) support terrorism:

3630  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The destruction of the UK has started on: June 28, 2016, 03:47:10 PM
I disagree with your views. Every country has a dark chapter. Why single out UK?

The reason all these people are doing this is because the British public hasn't voted the way others have wanted so now they're all throwing tantrums and are either acting like it's the end of the world or that anybody who voted leave is 'Xenophobic' and 'Racist'.

Can you stop painting the picture that the whole world is calling your poor brexiters racist and xenophobes?

If i run a software to search for the words racist and xenophobe on bct i will bet 5 btc that lethn is the one who uses the two words the most.

It is like you try to get support by whining about how everyone is a lier by acussing  you as a racist even though 99% of the time it doesnt happen .

I voted leave precisely to avoid overreaching and autocratic trading blocs, just trade with people normally, you don't need giant organisations for this.

Please give an example or is it just wishful thinking?
3634  Other / Politics & Society / Re: All the EU exiters should start a trading community on: June 27, 2016, 04:39:57 PM
Yes just start our own EU...

He was jesting, because the European Economic Area already exists (and Norway and Iceland are members). The problem with the EEA is that at the moment it gets bullied by the EU - of course if big members joined the EEA, the balance of power would then shift.

That is wrong.
EEA is one of the most important part of the EU  - free movement of worker, money, commodities and services.

All 28 EU memberstates and additionaly lichtenstein, island and norway are part of it. (Everyone except switzerland)
3635  Other / Politics & Society / Re: VOTE BREXIT on 23 June, UK on: June 27, 2016, 04:31:31 PM
the fact that they even prefer Sharia law should really fucking concern you, you really are brainwashed if you think that sort of thing is okay and frankly, if it was someone White or Christian who expressed these sort of views you would be calling for their lynching.

Uh oh, here come the thought police, here to tell us what we can and can't think or believe.  If they don't act on it, I honestly couldn't give a toss.  If they do act on it, there aren't enough willing people to achieve such a change in legislation, so I still don't give a toss.  It's a complete non-issue.  Mountains made from the tiniest of molehills by hysterical loons who are looking for any excuse to spread fear to support their cause.

Oh and for fucks sake learn to use quoting properly instead of just lazily spamming to cover up that you don't have anything useful to say.

He said after making less valid points than I just did.   Roll Eyes

It is pretty sad. That guy is such an hypocrite. Always saying big things about free speak but only for people agreeing with him. everyone else is just a an sjw calling patriots like him a racist and xenophobe.

Meanwhile we just put forth statistical facts aka numbers.

I already gave up on many people here - they are just brainwashed and delusional loonys who see the sun 5 minutes a day.
3636  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who will trigger article 50 to offically start brexit? on: June 26, 2016, 10:01:10 PM
i think it depends on the emotional state of the brits right now.
they are waking up from a hangover and realise what they just did with their decision.

If majority is still for the brexit it will be hard to deny it to them especially when the rest of the EU memberstates are pounding for a article 50.
3637  Other / Politics & Society / Re: VOTE BREXIT on 23 June, UK on: June 26, 2016, 09:21:08 PM
I thought we had opted out of Schengen together with Ireland.

You are right and im wrong. Sorry my bad there.
I always though that because Ireland and UK are part of the EU and EFTA/EEA and of the discussion about the refugee-crisis. (no boarder controls etc)
3638  Other / Politics & Society / Re: VOTE BREXIT on 23 June, UK on: June 26, 2016, 08:55:42 PM
It isnt just free travel. Please take a look at the the schengen treaty.

Also Visa free travel is really hard to negotiate and most (all?) Nations who have such a treaty with UK are in the Commonwealth, a former colony of the UK.

There was an opinion poll out yesterday which showed Leave voters were happy with their decision. All adult voters in Britain know what the EU is because we've been literally arguing about it for forty years, constantly. It has been in every newspaper, every day, for forty years.

This one?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/brexit-opinion-poll-reveals-majority-8283139

Quote
In a poll of 1,069 British adults aged 18 and over taken yesterday, just 39% said they felt a second referendum should be held.

The support level for a second referendum is even lower than the remain (48%) vote.
