3621  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PS3 Mining - Does it work? on: July 14, 2014, 06:31:36 PM
Why not sell that PS3 for some BTC?  You'll make more that way than you would by setting it up to mine.  Of course, it would be a pretty interesting experiment to see if you actually could hack it just to see it work Smiley

FAQ

1. Will S3 support p2pool?

The simple answer is we will. Bitmain has a very sincere interesting with p2pool, and we have invest human resource into this area. Sadly our firmware may not be able to give you a firm yes that we support p2pool right now, but we promise we will contribute much more to the p2pool mining idea than most of those who support p2pool mining well already.

For the short term, our core developer has already been looking into the p2pool problem. We think we might be able to solve it in another week or two.

Hello Bitmain,

It's been 2 weeks since you made this comment - is there any news on a p2pool compatibility fix yet? Many of us are waiting in the hope that we can use your hardware with p2pool, if we can - then I'm sure p2pool users will buy more hardware from you.

Thanks & regards  Smiley

i've been busy on other things and have not checked in here lately (tl;dr) but i'd second this comment by IYFTech

waiting some good news from you sir...
it'd be nice after S3 come out, we can taste the p2pool immediately Cheesy

Indeed - it would be nice to have some kind of update regarding this.

Give us some good news please Bitmain  Smiley
I'll add my voice to those interested in getting some news about p2pool compatibility as well.  Any news for us Bitmain?

Wizkid

I submitted a ticket to change my payout threshold to a much larger value.

I am not able to set a signature for my address due to the fact i use coinbase for my wallet.

I have not received any feed back if it has been completed or not.

Please get back to me I would really like to increase the min pay out amount from the default.

Thanks

I have no ability to override signed options or set options without signatures, for security purposes.

Coinbase does allow message signing,  although using any online wallet is generally just not recommended
To sign a message with your coinbase wallet, go to "Settings" and click on "Bitcoin Addresses".  You will see a list of your addresses.  Find the one you use for Eligius in the list and click on "Details".  You can see the details of that address, including a QR code.  Towards the bottom, you'll see, "You can also sign a message with this address."  Click that link and a text box will appear.  Put in the details you need and click "Sign Message".  The signature will appear right below the text box.  Copy and paste it into your Eligius settings.

You can also follow the instructions here: http://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1526413-how-do-i-sign-a-message-with-a-bitcoin-address-

Hope this helps.

Am is blind or i can see that S3 is slower than S2 ? S2 is in another topic stated to mine at 1THS?

Huh?? Grin

S3 its 478GH/s @366W
S2 its 1 TH/s @less than 1100W from the wall.

I think its way better S3 because of power .S2 its entirely diffent also  different machine

Oh ok i didn't know that i guess the manufacturer is different than?

No... same manufacturer.  The difference is in the ASIC used in each machine.

By the way, you forgot to mention that the S3 is cheaper, too.

S2 - 1TH/s @ 1100W is $1625
2 S3s - 956GH/s @ 732W is ~$900

yeah, didnt think it was necessary to talk about price hehe. its a nonsense to buy S2 having S3 Grin
Absolutely true.  More power efficient, better chips, and cheaper.  S3 wins in pretty much every category... unless you absolutely need a rack-mountable 4U form factor... and I think there's a guy making such a case for the S3 blades Smiley

You've never heard of the Mine'llium Falcon?  She's the rig that made the BTC block in less than 12 hashes.

May 2013 - Sept 2013 I used 10990 kWh.

5 months of the year, I use more then most people use all year long. You should see the stock position I've got with them.

Nothing wrong with a good ole internet pissin' match between boys. Keeps the blood flowing.

@jonnybravo0311 Thanks, first off.

Seeing those numbers makes it much clearer, and a very good starting point for a new guy. I'm sure it's around the net somewhere, think I've stumbled across it before at 3 am or such.(calculators)

Where do you get the 2**32 from in that equation?
Glad to help.  The 2**32 represents the smallest possible hash (i.e. the highest possible difficulty).  To really understand it, you need to think of the formula as: v = r/D

v is value
r is reward
D is actual difficulty

D is calculated by multiplying the current difficulty by the value of the smallest possible hash: D = d * 2**32

d = current difficulty
2**32 = smallest possible hash (i.e. highest possible difficulty)

Remember, your hash rate is expressed in hashes per second, so that's why I have the 86400 in there - to convert the time into days (because who really wants to see how many seconds you should expect it to take to solve a block, or more importantly how much you'll be earning per second?)

So, going back to the formula of v = r/D, the value is per hash.  I just tweaked that equation to provide a more useful number, i.e. value of a given hash rate over a day.

One thing to note - this equation, which is the basis of every earnings calculator out there - is completely based on probability.  It is expected earnings in a perfect world under ideal conditions where you will find a block exactly in the given amount of time.  Obviously the real world doesn't always live up to ideals Smiley

For example, I mine on p2pool.  With the current hash rate of the pool, we should find a block every 1.2 days or so, yet we've found 2 blocks in the past 24 hours.  Hence, I've made more BTC today than I should have.  Now, however, we're getting into a discussion on variance and that's an entirely different can of worms - one which I have no desire to open.
3629  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: ==== Eligius, please pay my 200+ BTC ==== on: July 10, 2014, 08:59:45 PM
It's my mistake.
If an attacker withholds blocks but transmits shares he gets payouts for the shares. Just in p2pool.

In every pool.  Not just p2pool.  That's the whole concept behind a block withholding attack: the attacker submits shares that are counted towards payouts, but if a share would satisfy the BTC block, that share is not submitted, and therefore, the block is not solved and no 25BTC reward.
3630  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: only 300$ per month on: July 10, 2014, 07:01:34 PM
@xtr8guy

Maaaybe you should let go on the fact that your outdated miners aren't giving the cash they once did and upgrade them

But I must warn you that you will never see a ROI, the electricity is expensive, the miners are pretty expensive. So you should think about not quitting your 9 to 5 job.

Just trying to help, Have a Nice Day!  Smiley
I tried to explain in an earlier post, xstr8guy did as well, but it appears you and he got off on the wrong foot and turned the thread into a pissing contest.

To answer your question, if you maintain a constant hash rate, you can expect to mine fewer and fewer coins as the overall network difficulty increases.  So, yes, you need to keep adding hardware to maintain the same amount of mined BTC.  I'm completely leaving "income in fiat" out of the equation, I'm strictly speaking of BTC.

Let's assume you have enough hashing power to earn 1BTC a day right now.  If the difficulty goes up 25%, you can expect to add 25% more hash power to maintain that 1BTC a day.  Here's the math that is used to calculate expected earnings per day:

Code:
Difficulty * 2**32 / hashrate / 86400 = number of days to find a block
25 / number of days = expected earnings per day

As you can see, increasing the difficulty will directly affect the number of days to find that block, and hence directly impact your daily earnings.

A real example of how a 1.1TH/s miner has decreased earnings potential based on the previous 2 difficulty levels:

Code:
Last difficulty was: 13462580114
13462580114 * 2**32 / 1100000000000 / 86400 = 608.3895 days
25 / 608.3895 = 0.04109209[btc] per day

Current difficulty is: 16818461371
16818461371 * 2**32 / 1100000000000 / 86400 = 760.0457 days
25 / 760.0457 = 0.03289276[btc] per day

If you wanted to maintain your 0.04109209BTC per day, you'd just solve for hash rate:
Code:
16818461371 * 2**32 / x / 86400 = 608.3895
x = 1.3742Th/s
Hope this helps.
3631  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help finding what to buy. on: July 10, 2014, 04:33:30 PM
I just spent my first bit of money on a small antminer u2 and I wasn't sure if I needed to buy something extra or if I just plugged it into my laptop and TAA-DAA.

Aside from a few small downloads and writing a cmd file so my miner was recognized, it was basically plug n play. So now that I've got it down I would like to spend a bit more on something more powerful,  but I am aprehensive something bigger than my usb miner requires things like power supplies & fans or things I can't pronounce.. So as of right now I have about 130$ to spend but I have to use that for everything I'm gonna need for this. I don't have a ton of time to browse through ebay, although what I have seen is promising. I have found an antminer s1 for 135. So if someone could make me a little shopping list and keep it around my price range, I would be eternally grateful.
I may also need tips getting everything set up, because I'm still new and have the knowledge of a five year old.
Thanks in advance.
Well, that S1 you saw on eBay will require a separate power supply to run (unless it was included in the auction).

With your budget, I'd look at the Rockminer R-Box (about $70-$80).  Some vendors provide the USB cable and the power supply (GAW Miners do).  That will get you 32-37 GH/s.

is 32-37 gh/s something that will show me more than a few cents a day?
No.  Nothing within your price range will give you more than cents per day.  That 35GH/s has an expected daily earning of about 0.001BTC a day at current difficulty.

so how many gh/s or th/s will be needed to make something like 15$ a day?
That's a loaded question because the answer depends on exchange rates, power costs and difficulty.  If you were hashing RIGHT NOW and had free power, you would need about 850GH/s.

3634  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [600 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: July 10, 2014, 03:12:36 AM
With walletaddress/10000000 one share is worth ~0.009 or 500ghs/day in grahps, bigger hook can give you bigger fish. And no its not high  Cheesy

OK I am not sure I understand... Is it more beneficial to use this?? 10000000 or not?
Thanks for any info on this.... and will it be any help to the S2's in use?

I'm not sure what help, if any, it would be for the S2.

Setting the difficulty manually like this tells the p2pool node that you are hashing on not to dynamically assign you a share difficulty, but to use the value you provide instead.  So, if the current share difficulty for getting a share onto the chain is 2000000, and you set your difficulty to 10000000, any shares you happen to find greater than 2000000 but less than 10000000 are not added to the chain.  It isn't until your miner finds a share at your difficulty that it would be added to the chain.  Because your share difficulty is set higher than the pool's default, when you find that 10000000 share, it is weighted heavier (meaning worth more BTC).

I honestly don't know what kind of benefit this would offer you other than creating a higher variance.  I mean, unless you've got enough hashing power such that you're finding shares faster than every 30 seconds, what's the point of slowing down the rate at which you find a share?
3635  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [600 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: July 10, 2014, 01:25:19 AM

Dont mine with minimal settings with 1th hardware - its for usb block erupters, use minimium walletaddress/10 000000 and see what happens in a week or two...

I'm not sure how the minimum difficulty works, but is there a typo here?

Is it: walletaddress/10000000

or: walletaddress/10 000000?

Doesn't that still seem a little high?
There shouldn't be a space: walletaddress/10000000

All that does is say, "I only want you to count my shares if they're 10000000 or more."  This is instead of the typical ~2000000 that is the current minimum to get a share on the chain.

I am mining with http://www.genesis-mining.com/. I think they are providing the best hash rate in current market.
What is it with all of these accounts constantly posting about how awesome they think this genesis mining is?  Seriously, your post has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.  How many accounts are there that are just shills for genesis mining?

On topic, I've got 5 U2s connected to an rPi.  I would love to see each of them hashing at 58TH/s Grin

how many do me earn with KNC Neptune 1500GH/s?

$26 per day less the cost of electricity. That declines every 12 days (on average) with difficulty adjustments.
https://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator
What're your mean "difficulty adjustments"?
Can you explain for me?
Sure, I'll explain it for you.  I'm purposefully leaving out a ton of details and only giving you a high-level overview of things.

The Bitcoin network strives to add 1 block to the block chain every 10 minutes.  To accomplish this, it sets a target difficulty.  Every 2016 blocks that are added to the chain, the difficulty is recalculated.  If the average time to find those blocks is found to be under 10 minutes per block, the difficulty is increased.  If the average time is greater than 10 minutes, the difficulty is reduced.  If the average time is exactly 10 minutes, the difficulty remains the same.

In general, the more power that is added to the network, the faster the blocks are found, and the difficulty increases to compensate.

they have no need to sell an s-4.

3 s-3's do the job.

they would be better off selling s-2 up grade kits then selling s-4's

Now I am making a lot of assumptions.  most of them being they no longer have a lot of cases +backplanes + contollers + psu's left over from the s-2's.

if they do have a lot of them they still may prefer selling upgrade kits.  to s-2 owners.  before they sell an s-4.

my big interest is s-3 undervolt underclock options.

can I get an s-3 to run at 400gh and 240 watts? with fans set at 1500 rpm   = real value for me.
1.6TH/s at 960W?  Yes please.  Running 4 S3s on a single EVGA 1300... now that would be nice.

Hey Spondoolies -

I know this is a bit of a tricky question, but things are getting pretty hot over there these days.  Is there any chance of getting an early shipment going?  What are the chances Hamas is going to blow the fuck out of my $100,000 investment?  I sure hope bombs flying overhead doesn't slow down production much.

Can you please tell us: 1) what is the typical range of a Hamas missile?  2) max range?  3) How far is Spondoolies from the nearest Palestinian rocket launching site?  If you don't have all the parts in hand, do you think some of the shipping will be delayed due to need for diverting shipping resources over to the hot war?  Has Spondoolies ever considered setting up their next generation in a place somewhat further from a war zone - say Canada for example.

I'd sure like to know the answers to these question if you get a minute or two to compose them.

I'm sorry, but Rawdog your questions are insensitive, rude and frankly just show your lack of respect to the Spondoolies-Tech team and the situation they are up against. If I was them (and good thing for you I'm not) I would cancel your order and refund your (precious) money and tell you to get lost.

Shakes my head,

~Blaise
+1

@RawDog - people's lives are in danger and your primary concern is whether or not your mining hardware might be impacted?  Get your priorities straight.

To the Spondoolies-Tech team: I truly hope that all of you, your families and loved ones are safe and have not had to suffer losses.

Exactly $0.  The product does not exist.
your mean is this scam topic?

My opinion is that is it, but you don't need to believe me. Just ask for a real proof before sending money.
tks guy
so, I'm new, I don't know much
I can see your device is SP30-6Th/s, I also found Knc Neptune-3Th/s.
How much can I earn with each?
You're asking the wrong questions.  The SP30 is not shipping yet - the first batch should go out starting this month; however, you don't have a prayer of getting one.  The earliest you can get the SP30 is for the September batch at $5095.  I don't know anything about the Neptunes so I won't comment on them.

If you want to calculate potential earnings, there are a number of calculators out there to help you.  However, to use these calculators you need to understand a bit about mining and what is involved.  For example, you'll need to understand the concept of difficulty and how it will affect earnings.

Take some time to read through the forums and learn a bit before jumping into blindly purchasing any hardware.
